Editor what do you think of 21 year old 6ft 1" midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson who currently plays for Hoffenheim. Apparently he is a dead ball specialist. {ed's note - that is the lad they got from Reading isn't it? If so he is top class, a real eye for goal, I was shocked no Premier League team moved for him, he stood out a mile for Reading.}

United will try for Kakuka in January if he rejects Chelsea, if he signs for the Chav's they will turn their attentions to Pienaar. Henderson will be brought in, our marquee signing this summer will be Sanchez or Ganso depending on his return from injury. I expect Lindegaard or Neuer to be brought in.

ROONEY READY FOR WIGAN RETURN

Wayne Rooney returned to training with Manchester United yesterday. .and looks set to go straight back into the side.

The striker will be thrown into the game against Wigan at the weekend, despite a month on the sidelines, as his side have struggled in his absence.

Rooney has been recuperating in Dubai and the United States, where he enjoyed a recovery programme out of the public glare.

And United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes he is ready to once more carry the burden of a Red Devils attack that has struggled badly in his absence.

Rooney has not played since controversially refusing the offer of a new contract and suggesting the club lacked ambition.

But after a U-turn when he agreed a massive new contract, Ferguson is hoping the fans will forgive him, and get behind him once more, when he returns to action against Wigan.

According to Affelay's agent, he has agreed a move to Barcaleona (ironic how people were speaking about him earlier today). Source is goal.com, not the most reliable but I doubt they would make this up. Only thoughts are that perhaps his agent is trying to increase competition and up his wages. I personally feel we could get better players than him and would prefer the money invested in quality midfielders to replace Giggs and Scholes.

"Nani to baryen munich for robben plus 8 million"

Don't be so ridiculous, Nani is already on par with Robben, Robben plays around 20 games a season, the boy is a crock. A more believable rumour would have been Robben plus 8m for Nani.

Lennon to man united for a fee of 15 million plus carrick

marc albrighton 10 million plus hargreves

evra to madrid 20 million plus lassana diarria

fabio contrau 14 million

connor wickham 9 million plus drinkwater and bebe on loan

- - - -
Ah, a few problems with that post:

Man Utd would be crazy to waste 15m on Lennon - he's quick but I haven't seen him put in a good cross for nearly a year.

Why would Villa sell their most promising youngster for 10m plus a player who is as delicate as a china doll and has only played half an hour of football in two years.

Why would Real buy a 30 year-old left back for 20m when they have decent cover in that position and could easily buy Coentrao for slightly more (being 8 years younger).

Benfica would never sell a player - who has recently signed a 6 year contract - as talented and youthful as Coentrao. He is easily better than the one-night-wonder Gareth "The Missing Link" Bale.

And finally, Conor Wickham is a die-hard Liverpool fan - hardly going to be itching to put pen to paper for United.

A couple of months ago at the world cup bastian schweinsteiger stated that he would consider a move to further his career and that manchester united is the one at the top of the list and bayern have stated interest in berbatov and anderson so could one of them be in a px for bastian ed what do you think? and also lukas podolski would be a great addition to our squad if berba leaves and jordan henderson don't you think ed? {ed's note - I think Jose has his eye on Bastian mate, though having Berbatov and Anderson to offer could be a good way to get him. I like Podolski when he plays for Germany, but he doesn't seem the same player at club level.}

Ed what do yout think about Modric. .I think Fergie will definitely tempt Spurs in summer with . . a Carrick + 25 million bid. .

Plzz a plea to every Man Utd fan dnt talk about selling Welbeck to get Henderson in any deal. Loan him for 1 more year but not sell him to Sunderland because he will make it at United in a few years time.

Sanchez is a big possibility.
Henderson or Defour will come. only 1 of them.
n a GK. .dnt know wchich one. . n
maybe a CB. because Gary Cahill is virtually on sale n Mertsacker contract talks are held up n United are interested in him just as Arsenal. .

Well I thought the reaction to my comments were a bit unfair yesterday seeing as I asked everyone to judge my predictions in January.

One guy said I would see Rooney at Carrington this morning. I haven't seen any evidence of him returning yet. One guy said he will be on the subs bench against Wigan, lets wait and see for Saturday.

I noticed no one questioned the Glazer situation I disclosed, other that some rival saying we were being run in to the ground, and Ronaldo was the start of asset stripping. If we were saving money hand over fist why is Neville still on the payroll amongst others. Ronaldo went because he wanted to go, nothing more nothing less. Tevez was forced to move, by a company that owned him and wanted the most money they could get for him. United offered a fair market price of 25m for him, it was put in black and white on the official club website, and the offer was declined by the company. Tevez loves United, always has, always will. His frustration was borne out of United not entering a bidding war with City, and trying harder to keep him there. He wants to be at City about as much as the rest of the mercenaries there.

People need to exercise patience on all things Manchester United at the moment. These draws may well win us the championship, remember we were down in two of them, Bolton and Saturday. Furthermore 5 of the clubs we drew against are in the top ten. Like I said 3 players in January, come back and criticise me then, and only then.

The reason i say De Gea is because Fergie and Eric Steele went to watch him, he is also keen on a move to United. The reason i say Sanchez is because Fergie admitted doing personal background checks on him, he is also a die hard United fan like his father and his agent has said United have made contact with him. I cannot help but think the effort Fergie made with the Chilean miners was to help the deal too, get the Chileans loving United before we take their merchandising money?

I would love to see Henderson, Sanchez & De Gea at United by this summer. Surely its a good possibility if the money is there? These signings would mean the end for Hargreaves, Giggs & VDS!

Ed its not unlike United to be this crafty is it?

Sydney!

{Editor's Note: Sanchez could end up in a bidding war with several clubs wanting some of the action. De Gea is still very young and I would expect the club to go after someone with more experience.}

@Ed Jordan Henderson has come out today and albeit insinuated that he would welcome a move to Manchester United, Fergie has also told Brucie to keep him informed about his progress and the last time he done that it was for Valencia and then he bought him.

How likely is it that this summer, Henderson will be a United player? Could United buy him in Jan and loan him back to Sunderland along with Welbeck? Could Carrick be part of the deal in the summer?

@They had 35m to spend on Cesc last season, they spent 16m of it on Mash, so there should be at least 15m kicking around, Ibrahimovic is up for sale, so is Hleb, Milito is up for sale, that's potentially 25m minimum.

So with some wheeling and dealing they may be able to raise 40m?

Are Barcelona not in talks with Affellay over a switch? If this is the case we can forget him. henderson is a good bet, reasonably cheap, good prospect and welbeck can be used as leverage. Bruce has already come out to say he wants to keep welbeck today. Defour and Sanchez are the two most likely with alot of groundwork being odne on both but i can't see them both being signed in summer? unless berbatov goes (which i doubt he will. .). .
Utd need to release a statement clarifying the Hargreaves situation. We are all patient cos he's a great player but there is a limit and nearly three years out taking up wages and a place in the first team is my limit anyway. Time to retire Hargo. i will be sad to see you leave but we need to place faith in pogba, eikrem cleverly etc etc. Ed question. In your opionion will berba go? and befroe the Villa game fergie said he admired Villa for giving youth a chance and they 'rarely let you down'. Is he hinting at a start for any of our star youngster?

Stuey

~No Stu i think he is talking about Obertan, Welbeck, Smalling, Rafael, Fabio etc, he may even be talking about the wealth of youth we have used in the past?

Eikrem will never make it at United, just like Corry Evans. Pogba & Morrison are our best chance of seeing youth. Pogba & Morrison are both ready, i hope to see them in the next couple of games.

@Ed Afellay did say that a couple months ago i agree, but since then, since Barca have been speaking to PSV he has been saying to the media every chance he gets that he wants the Barcelona move.

Barcelona will sign Afellay for free in the summer, or for pittance in January and they will use all of their transfer kitty to attempt to sign Cesc in the summer. That's right Ed we will have to put up with that boring saga again.

I'm not looking forward to that!

I did know that Ed, i just believe the lure of playing with Barcelona will be too much. Have Utd indicated interest? how long is he willing to wait to get a move to England knowing Barca are waiting?
If im honest i don't understand Barca's thinking? I would have thought their wage budget is primed for Cesc?

Stuey {ed's note - I have not heard of any interest, but I have a feeling he will wait until the summer, Barca don't have the money to offer huge wages for him, hence why they are jumping in now.}

We could possibly see a midfield revamp during the summer. Unlikely that more than 3 players will be bought, its not SAF style.

Scholes & Giggs will stay 1 more season, to help the new signings fit into the club and its style of play. Also to help while they are getting used to the English game, they can fill in when things are not going good in a game. They will not be first team regulars though.

Carrick & Anderson are the two I can see being sold. With Obertan showing great form, Cleverly being recalled from loan, Valencia coming back from injury I think 2 midfielders would seal the deal in terms of a proper Manchester United midfield force. More than likely Defour, and as Steve Bruce mentioned yesterday, Jordan Henderson. Although I think SAF might leave Henderson at Sunderland for another season.

As for Berbatov, I think his time is up. SAF has been patient with him but its gone on too long. Affelay would be great on a free.

Defense wise - Bolton have admitted they may have to sell key players in the summer. Gary Cahill is a long target of SAF, great replacement for the out of form Jonny Evans.

@First of all, Cleverley & Valencia are both wingers, as is Obertan (Mainly) So you cannot justify selling two central midfielders in Carrick & Anderson just because two wingers in Cleverley & Valencia are returning.

I have to disagree with you, both Carrick & Anderson will stay, no one will come in in January other than Cleverley!

Afellay has been holding talks with Barcelona, they are very keen on him so forget about Afellay my friend. Berbatov will stay at least until the summer. Also Ferguson will not replace Evans just because he is off form, Evans will be at United for life.

Just a word to those of you who are saying Bastian Schweinsteiger is £25million target, as good a player as he is the lad will NOT go for that amount in the summer. If he reaches that point without signing a contract extension then he will only have 1 yr left on his contract and very few clubs will pay that amount. I expect to see him go more realistically for around £17million. Thats if he does move. Having said that fate has a way of throwing egg at all of our faces so my turn will be when he moves for a world record £150gazillion move to Leicester City. .:-/

{Editor's Note: Essien is 27.}

@Essien turns 28 in two weeks time.

{Editor's Note: So how old is he now?}

@27 years, 11 months & 15 days old.

{Editor's Note: I have of course by now forgotten the original point - something about him being getting close to the end of his career and needing replacing. Right.}

@Ed i was not the original poster and i have to say he has at least two good years left in him depending on his injuries, he does not need replacing for a couple years yet. 28 is not that old usually, but he is a big lad and he is very injury prone, even so i would say he has a minimum of two good seasons left.

Although he may want to move on one day, a player of his quality should play for a big club at least once in his career, its too late for Drogba at nearly 33 but Essien has some years to play for a top top club. Ed can you see Essien remaining at Chelsea until he retires? Would that be a wasted career of someone with his immense quality?

Fergie seems to think he has the same team that won the CL in 2008. It virtually is, only 3 players are missing. .But them 3 players were key.

Owen Hargreaves - Injury, big player, great to stop opposition play. we need him back. If not, we need a replacement, Carrick will never be the player he is.

Ronaldo - Probably our best player of the past decade. He wrecked defenders, gave us constant attacking flare, and could pull a goal out of anywhere. Nani is great this season, don't get me wrong but cannot replicate what Ronaldo done. We need a replacement.

And finally, Carlos Tevez. Great player for us, really pitty he had to leave. He worked like no other player, real team player. If we had never bought Berbatov, Tevez would not have been let go, 30mill for a 'waster' as I would describe and 25mill for a key team player.

This summer we need crucially, an attacking midfielder with flare, speed and pace. Steven Defour looks like the most obvious, but I would also like to see Alexis Sanchez, small, fast and energetic. Our performance against Villa yesterday for 80mins was poor, we lacked any ideas going forward. Two front men had no support, shocking for a Manchester United side.

As for Berbatov, I think (hope) this season will be his last, unless he comes up with the goals he does not stand fit to wear the shirt, or even call himself a striker. Affelay could be brought in to bring United back to their favourite 4 up front.

And finally, we need a midfielder to boss the midfield. A player to allow Sanchez, Defour (whoever we buy) to run riot and clean up whatever comes his way. Ed, any ideas on a suitable strong, bold midfielder?
{Editor's note - Banega, Defour, and it is being reported that Schweinsteiger wants to leave Bayern}"

Agree completely about hargreaves. My player of the season for the CL winning one. I would like to see him back. I think we can replace him with defour though. I have not seen enough of banega to be sure about him. Henderson looks a possibility as well.

As for ronaldo there is no replacement in this world for him. Not even messi in my opinion but that is another debate altogether.

People need to get over carlos tevez thing. Berbatov had absolutely nothing to do with his departure. He just wanted more money, his agent wanted more transfer fee which we did not offer and that is why he went to city. He played many games in that season as well. I never saw sheringham or solskjaer complaining about being benched, why should carlos tevez be any different.

I think our possible transfer targets will be :-

Defour/henderson/banega(not sure about him)(around 10-12mil)
Schweinsteiger(25mil)/Sanchez(20mil)
Degea/neuer(12-15mil)
Alfellay (on a free probably in the summer)

Not all will be bought of course. If schweinsteiger does decide to leave i think it will be for United. I don't see any space for him in any other top team in europe and i doubt we need sanchez. But the others are perfectly gettable at the right price.

We may well sell anderson and a few of the youth like wellbeck, gibson possibly macheda and make 20mil in that. SAF may well lose patience with carrick or berbatov but i think carrick won't be the one going. Possibly berbatov for 10-15mil. Possibly getting back the money for hargreaves from his insurance too.

I think we will make around 25-30mil from sales etc. and around 25-30mil will be made available. We can realistically spend 50-60mil with a net spend of about 30mil. Any thoughts ed? Getting in the players i have mentioned (not all) and spending around 50-60mil does not look unrealistic does it?
