Dortmund apparently made an 8.8m bid for Marvin Martin. Hopefully they are looking at Marvin to fill the hole left when either Kagawa or Goetze leave for United. Add M'Vila to either of the above and we are seriously in business.

OxfordRED {Ed007's Note - He is a fine player is Martin, but if Utd sign him I keep picturing wee Marvin the Martian running about zapping people! I need sleep I think lol Was it an earth shattering KABOOM that will leave the aforementioned hole?}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

If this is true and Dortmund have put in a bid for Martin, this changes everything. When Sahin was off to Real Madrid they already had Gundagon lined up as his replacement. If they are bidding for Martin then Kagawa or Gotze is leaving. My money is on Kagawa as his contract talks has stalled.

Ed002, have you heard anything on this?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I have spent the summer explaining this Syd. Nothing changes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin and Tiote for around £25m - £30m is a terrific bargain. Folk go on about Sneijder and Modric For more than this. However, Martin and Tiote together would make a far larger impact on our midfield. So called Marquee players are not always as good as you think. Schmeicel,Irwin,Cantona,Vidic,Evra and many of our legends were not Marquee players when they arrived at OT
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 - But circumstances change all of the time Ed, surely if the Martin bid is true, they are looking at replacing Kagawa or Gotze? That's fair isn't it?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I don't see Goetze moving to Manchester this summer. I guess there may be a slim chance that Kagawa could move to Arsenal, but it is hard to see why he should. Clubs can buy players without others leaving as well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you are all missing Oxford Reds point saying Martin would be a good signing, it is Dortmond that have bid for him to replace Kagawa or Goetze who we are supposedly interested in....we have no interest in Martin the Martian or Marvin the Martian......

this rumour about the potential sale of a % of the club must raise the question are the glazers struggling with the debt.
we have just spent a small fortune to refinance the debt only to hear that they are now willing to sell part of the club .
the question is why are they selling , when they "bought " the club i dont think this would of been plan A.
jred

Believable9 Unbelievable0

'jred'

It's simple, the Glazers want to take regular dividends from our club, but cannot do it whilst we are paying interest. Floating part of the club is the best thing for everyone.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I read the discussion earlier on the banter site about the re-financing. I still don't understand whether the Glazers have to pay off all the debt or just enough to keep up repayments.
What is to stop them selling 25% of the club for £400million and pocketing the entire ammount?

J Bones.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd i dont think it is that simple if that was the case why spend on refinancing the debt only to then sell a part of the club, it makes no sense i'm sure it would not of been a part off the business plan.
add to that the extra hassle of joint ownership.
Its better paying dividends than interest as thats only part of the profit going out so if profits drop divdends drop.
but on the flip side of this the more money the club makes the more in dividends going out the club.
business wise the glazers are sitting on a gold mine if they let the club pay for its self and then sell they could make a £1.5 bill profit .
this is at least a change in plan and i just wonder why.
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

'J Bones'

They would have to pay off the bonds or they couldn't pay the investors their dividends. The Glazers will pay off the bonds and gobble up 75% of the clubs dividends for the rest of their lives. That's a minimum of £36m a year.

Lets not forget they have not taken a penny out in dividends since they bought the club. £36m in their back pockets every year is a fortune.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

'jred'

Because they will pocket say £36m every year and still be sat on a £1.2bn asset. They can sell the club anytime.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

But syd if they sell up to 45% of the club which is what is being reported you half the amount you have stated above.
i saw your other post about only selling 25% but i think that is what was reported when they were looking to sell on the hong kong exchange, i think they might be looking to sell more this time and 40-45% is a lot give away.
i'm not saying there is any big story but i think there has been a change in plan/attitude and i wonder why
it could be to give us more money in the transfer market, it could be tied in to the uefa fair play rules, it could be that they need a cash injection.
but why give up a part of the club for what is really a few mill over the next 5 year say when they could just about pay the debt and take a dividend now
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

'jred'

thats bcuz the qatar family is taking over. who to tell they won't sell the 75% of the club for the 1.2bn and that so called 25% being reported going unto the stock exchange not going to be owned by 'them'?

Agree0 Disagree0

Floating part of the club is certainly not 'best' for everyone Whsilt in principle it seems like a good idea, do you really think the money they will make from the floatation will be used to pay the clubs debts?? Of course it wont. The Glazers businesses in the US are really struggling and they need the money to help with their stupid shopping mall business. They will leave Utd still severely in debt and take the money and use it elsewhere

Bazza

Agree0 Disagree0

Bazza
the worse case is exactly that, but i dont think/hope thats the plan although i wouldnt put it past them.
Giving away 40% to gain 20 mill dividend a year doesn't make sense either they would be worse of in the long run.
i dont think they would take money out united to prop up there other business, better to have at least one good business (united) than 2 bad ones.
i think the plan was to get united to pay for its self then sell up an make a bill profit but due to the markets they are going to struggle to pay the debt in timescale they are happy with , so they have deciced to sell up , i think we might go back to a full plc

can anyone tell me if Sneijders twitter sneijder101010 is genuine account? if so he's been in Ibiza for the last week or so and has now returned to Inter. Which asks more questions, why has he been on holiday half way through pre-season training, has he been told to go on holiday before his move away?
Mitch

Believable12 Unbelievable1

It's genuine, he has photos loaded if you google it. It's the real deal mate.

Ussoldier77

Agree0 Disagree0

This account is genuine and yes Sneijder was unusually allowed a 5 day holiday starting from the Thursday to Monday when he reported he was in double training. Inter official site confirm he was seperated from the group doing strength training.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's real but dont read anything into the " time off" story. All Inter players had time off and all reported back on the 15th to complete pre-season

Syd, you got any updates about how Angelo Henriquez is progressing?

=v1=

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Last year we signed an agrement with his club that we have an option to purchase him for 3 mil in the next 4 seasons

Agree0 Disagree0

He is learning English and is doing what SAF asked of him I would imagine. I expect he will come to United in around a years time. Dependent on work permit of course. He is an exceptional talent so he will get a work permit.

United don't agree to pay £3.5m for a 16 year old if he isn't something very special.

Sydney!

Yes mr no name i know about the agreement

Cheers Syd... hope to see him very soon in united red

I wake up every morning straight to sky to see what the papers are saying about united and nothing there... Isn't this how SAF likes to do business that nobody knows maybe we will sign a player on the quiet like we have done before or maybe we genuinely aren't going to sign... Our team is not weak by any means but I think a good few here would agree a new established signing wouldn't hurt

Was on a taxi from trafford to sale. We got talking with the cabbie. He reckons United are booked at Bridgewater hospital for next week. Jus like everyone else he says its everyone's guess who is coming for a medical. He said even the insiders they always rely on are not saying nothing. The rumour is that 2 players are coming. One is a done deal and the other must be completed by weekend. Then the medicals next week presumably Wed or Thurs. Thank you. THETRAFFORDBOY

Believable10 Unbelievable19

They say Kaka was spotted at Heathrow airport today. If the sneijder deal is already done as many as put it, and the cabbie you spoke of is correct, do you think kaka is the player who's deal is to be done by weekend?

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance Like the optimism but aint going to happen. Not confident WS is on the way either(mores the pity)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why people even think about Kaka is crazy. I doubt he'd pass the medical. Great players 3 years ago, but he's had it.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

We don't buy expensive players.??? Berba. £30 million plus rooney 28 million plus add ons Ferdinand almost 30 million veron 28 million 18 million carrirk alomost the same on Anderson and young, jones and de gea al cost 16 million and more.

very intresting sky sports as well as sky news are now reporting that the glazers are looking to raise $billion on the stock market by selling a stake in united.
they had "a city expert" on and asked him what does this tell us he replied "it tells use they are struggling to pay the crippling debts they have taken on"

if this is true it would answer a few questions
jred

Believable14 Unbelievable2

What i read a while ago, was that the glazers want to put betwen 15% and 25% on the stockmarket so they can pay off the remaning debt.

Looks like good news

Richie R

Agree0 Disagree0

This can only be good news. Whether they are struggling to pay the debt or not it will shift the debt out and it will be the start of a takeover which has been mouted for sometime, i asked about this rumour a couple of weeks back. If we see Qatari's or Kuwaiti's buying into the club this pretty much tells me a takeover is not far away.

Lew

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe or maybe not. It will be interesting to read what the andersred blog has to say about this development. I would much prefer to see a full buy out of the Glazers. If they only sell a small shareholding then they're here for the long run and the club is only a money making machine for them

Agree0 Disagree0

Well in all fairness I dont think there is anything to worry about, I know they have seriously crippled the club but we have spent big money this year on future players, I'm not a Glazer fan but we could be in worse state of affairs If the sell shares and pay off debt it can only be good, as long as the pay it off the debt

still think we need a rb with more expereince, ? over
the twins physical defending and having been watchin utd last season all the talk b4 games after
games was a world class cm player, david gill said
this years tranfers market would be busy with big suprise's im still hopeful but it all gone quiet is this a
sign from ot things are about to happen?
is there still gong to be a take over?
sneijder ,nasri or modric all targets gone no where yet ?

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Don't panic too much, don't forget smalling, jones, and fletcher can play RB. Usually going for smalling as RB against the more physically strong teams.. Evans can cover at LB if evra or fabio can't... We have talent and cover in the full back positions, but we DO lack creativity in the oppositions half in the centre, face it we need some sort of experienced midfielder that can get our attack less predictable and more creative..

Agree0 Disagree0

Depending on injuries, saf will play fabio or smalling at rb,i think fabio is the more natural rb,id say hel play smalling against the more threatning sides away from hme

I heard something interesting about Modric today. Some may already know this.

Apparently, he did not choose Chelsea and staying in London over us. United made initial contact with his agents in January and had concrete meetings or so i was told anyway. We agreed to double his wages and he was open to a move to United. At this point, Chelsea had very little interest in the player. After these meetings with his agents United made contact with Spurs and they were firm on the "not for sale" banner while United were ready to pay a price upward of 30mil. But Levy was insistent on Modric will not be sold. So United pulled out switching attentions to Sneijder and later Nasri when he became available due to SAF wanting an experienced midfielder this season, but asked Tottenham to be kept informed about the Modric situation and will go back in if Tottenham are ready to sell. Chelsea's concrete interest in him came at about the same time as United switched attentions knowing that he won't be sold. Chelsea are making bids more in hope than confidence and Levy has not budged a bit.

It would be interesting to see what happens if Spurs change their stance and they would be open to letting him go. Surely they would want a bidding war rather than a single club being the running and with Sneijder and NAsri possibly dead in the water United should be making a bid at least.

REDFAITH

Believable16 Unbelievable5

I think around 6pm on transfer deadline day may be interesting. Perhaps sooner as two weeks ago we gave Sneijder two weeks to make up his mind. Are we going to turn our attentions to Modric again? He is the better fit, he is cheaper (wages) and he is younger. Fingers crossed.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

We gave sneijder 2 weeks to think about it 2 weeks ago?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't really know how true this is actually Sydney! but was worth a post anyway. I would hope we get Modric too, it would elevate us to a whole new level of midfield control imo. He can form a partnership with basically any of our midfielders and play in 2-3 different formations of ours.

REDFAITH

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont rate modric at all,i think hes the most overated footballer in the country,he aint a world beater,he very in consistant and doesnt score goals, goes missing in the big games, cant c him making much difference to utdhes reminds me of yossi benyoune,i hope he goes to chelski.....another dud..

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh really, does he?I dont think so,Modric is one of the best Maestros around

Agree0 Disagree0

Maestro?not at allgood enough for spurs and liverpool and the likesHe wouldn't get his game at barca or real madrid ,i dont think hed get a good run out a the chelski,so no good for Utd super red

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally think Modric would be a better signing than Sneijder, not just because he's younger and possibly cheaper, but because he's a great footballer who i think would fit better into our team and style. I think Sneijder is a great player too but he and Rooney would be looking to both play in the same part of the pitch where as Modric would play a little more deeper in the central midfield, excactly where we need strenghthening. Anyone who says Moric is not a great player is obviously not watching him closely, i understand what people say about a lack of goals but look how many goals originate from his play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Scholes has already left

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm alright thanks. Look at the last 2 players we signed from Spurs. Bale had 5 good matches 14 months ago and 1 great game last year plus Modric isn't even anything special. Look at their stats. Not even 10 goals and 10 assists between them last year.

all this talk about sneijder we have a great prospect in cleverly i know he has not got the experience yet but that is what makes fergie the best in the business he will nurture him and make him into a top player reds forever

Believable8 Unbelievable13

Prospect. That's all he is at the moment, a prospect. Not yet good enough to win the big important matches.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you 2nd poster. He's just a prospect. He needs someone to teach him to perfect is role. Theory is great but hands on is brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like was said, hands on is brilliant, well what's better hands on than learning whilst playing, everyone is saying that Cleverley hasn't got experience, well let him play and gain experience, making him sit on the bench, watching someone else play his position and giving him a few cameo appearances will not get him experience Someone to learn from... I'm sorry but are people really forgetting one of the greatest midfielders of his generation... Paul Scholes. He is part of the coaching staff at OT so he can quite easily tutor Cleverley.

any wise man utd supporter can clearly see what SAF is doing.he will encourage pogba and fletcher to do fighting job in the center while ando, carrik and Cleverly will run forward. we always have our winger with striker to fire. so he has all covers to win the league. so nomore signing. winning Champions trophy is about luck..1 bad day and our S***ty half can also beat barcelona. so no issue

the sneijder deal might still be on as inter are skint.
reports show that inter have lost E509 mill over the last 5 years and they are trying to cut the wage bill as they paid out 104 per cent of revenue in salaries in 2009.
so when the new uefa rules come in they are screwed.
If its true that sneijder wants the move to united, are we stalling to get inter to drop there price as we no they have to sell and get one off there highest earners of the wage bill.

"Nothing says for sure that I’ll depart from or stay at Inter, to whom I’m still contracted. But what I can assure you is that nothing has been concluded and as I leave this conference hall, I’ll be going back to the negotiation table with the club."

When asked about his widely publicised transfer to Anzhi, Eto’o smirked, and said: “Don’t be surprised, I could join an English club very soon.”

is he just winding up the media or is the any chance of hime coming to england any idea ed?
jred {Ed007's Note - The last I heard was that City had been told that Eto'o was not for sale at any price. The following words are an extract of a recent SAF interview.

"You can forget anyone you like, I'm happy with the young players I've got."

"I've been saying that for weeks but you [the media] have all been writing differently - that I'm going to buy this one or that one. But we've said nothing, we just carry on with our business."

So now we all know that the buying has stopped for this window.
So no more excitement looking at newspapers etc. for the next 2 weeks.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Sir Alex & David Gill also said 'expect a busy summer'. You see 3 signings as busy? I certainly don't, I see Fergie manipulating the media to safeguard his targets, as I'm sure you all know, once United are in for someone this normally starts a bidding war...

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah and you need to remember that David Gill mentioned we may get one more world class signing. I hope we do cause 3 isn't really a lot, considering 2 are under 21. Wouldn't surprise me if we made a last minute bid for Nasri e.t.c

Agree0 Disagree0

Sneijder has said he doesnt want to come to manchester

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, he's not coming. End of story. I wish we would see the impact a world class midfielder. City have spent money on Aguero, and he looks like he may be a bit special. We need a similar spark in Midfield, but i am guessing that this won't be happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

The idea of buying someone is that the buyer gets as good a deal as the seller so if we buy WS we will probably be at a masively over priced move and well we have players who r as creative as him (Cleverley,Welbeck and Morrison)
