There is an interview w/ De Gea on his thoughts about RVP. I'd just imagine him introducing him to the team and recalling when he saved his penalty kick.

Yep let's spend Moura money on Martinez please.

Supasub

Agree3 Disagree0

I doubt it, they are already losing Martinez to Bayern and Llorente is likely yo leave too. And seeing as they only sign Basque players then they are not gonna want to lose any more players. The only options it could be if there is some truth in it is Oscar De Marcos or Ander Herrera.

Shappy

Martinez has signed for bayern my Spanish friend has told me its either de Marcos or Herrera he's not sure which one we like both!

Online now saying RVP will pocket £250k a week. Do they not know how United roll under the Glazers? At the very most it will be the same as what Rooney gets, a basic salary of £160k a week plus top bonuses based on his scoring, silverware wins etc.

The Glazers are many things, but they are not stupid. Everything nowadays at United is based on a bonus scheme dependent on the club's success.

Sydney!

Believable33 Unbelievable7

I hope this is true - entice them to play better! I must say I thought it unlikely we would pay RVP a huge basic pay like the Ł225k-250k being said in the press. Like you said we are United and have to be sensible with our funds as we're self sufficient. I could be wrong though

Portugese papers going to run story in morning that MUFC sending a delegation to Portugal next week after sending a formal letter expressing interest and suggesting fee of around £23m

Why are Man Utd in National Group 2 for the new Premier Youth League set up? Is that basically the second division?!

Anyone know anything about it? Cheers.

DodgyBanter

Believable5 Unbelievable9

Its not divisions mate just split into groups based on squad players and the size of the reserve team

Agree0 Disagree0

The leagues are not in order of quality.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

No, from what I've heard its different qualifying groups for the later stages of the competition. It's not like the premier league It works sort of like the CL

Agree0 Disagree0

There just random groups

Agree0 Disagree0

From what i heard on TV there are no divisions just 22 teams 1 group of 8 and two groups of 7. in each league they play each other home and away with 2 home games having to be held at the actual club stadiums.

also they are allowed 1 over age keeper in the squad and 3 over age outfield players

The games are played friday, saturday, sunday or monday

we don't need to buy a LB unless they only have a season left in them, as we have Fabio out on loan, and Blackett rising up through youth, why buy a LB and block those two out? one of them will be Evra's successor, and unless we get someone on loan we don't need anybody, we can play Blackett there against the lesser teams, and as a poster posted this morning Giggs can also play there, and Jonny Evans is no stranger to LB. They may not be LB by trade, but look at Valencia, Jones and Smalling, they are our only cover for RB and none of them are RB's. If we do invest in another player it will be a CB or CM as wehave alot of injuries in those areas, and with players ageing they need resting too.

Jake F

Believable23 Unbelievable1

Evra isn't good enough at LB, let alone Evans or Giggs. If we want to improve we must buy a LB. Pointless strengthening the attack whilst leaving the defence sh1te.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Been saying this all summer when people say lets get Baines in.
Why spend money on a player for a one year solution. When Fabio comes back next season, he may be developed. So why have 3 LBs.

melwing28

Agree1 Disagree1

I agree to a point, but if Evra was to get a long term injury a few days after the transfer window closes then we would be stuffed. Giggs Brady and Blackett can cover short term or in games where we'll be under less pressure but against the top teams i think they'd struggle. And for the two young lads that could have a huge effect on their career, it took Gibbs 18 months to get over the pasting we gave him in the Champions league. I don't want anything similar happening to our lads. Personally i think Evans is the best bet as cover for LB, he was awesome against Chelsea last season in that position. But with Smalling injured and Vidic and Ferdinand coming back from injuries then it's clear we need Evans as cover in the centre. So although we could cope without signing a LB it would make sense to get specialist cover for the position rather than having to crowbar someone in there if needed. Plus Evra's recent form hasn't been great, possibly due to lack of serious competition for his place, bringing someone in to challenge him can only push him to play better or give us an alternative option if he doesn't improve.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Evra is still one of the best on his position, he just doesn't have the legs to play every game anymore, he has played near enough every minute for us there over the past 2 seasons, Fergie knowa what he is doing, and in him I trust, whatever he does will be the right decision.

Jake F

Agree0 Disagree0

You talk of not needing cover for evra and then go on to say we need cover at CB where we have the likes of rio, vidic,Evans, smalling and jones.
Although the latter 3 are strugglin at the minute it appears Evans is not far off so I think it would be mad to go out and spend money on a new centre half!
Evra quite frankly(and it pains me to say kuz I love him)is not the player he was,and I think an addition at LB who could provide cover and maybe give evra the kick up the arse he needs would be perfect!who knows, maybe someone with a bit of versatility that could cover at CB for you!but who???

Agree0 Disagree0

Rio cannot play every game, so takes away one option, and then that leaves the other 2, I think Evans is best bet at LB and for me Smalling at RB, that only leaves Jones as cover, i'm not saying we NEED cover at CB, but I think it would be more sensible to get cover there because we already have versatile players that can play in LB and RB.

Can't believe some of the post's on here today!

Poor Manchester United and Ferguson can't win, whatever they do.......They get slagged off and moaned at for not buying players.....yet when we do go out and spend the cash.....they moan again.....United fans have got way too use to winning trophies!! Now their saying and posting things like....can't see carrick or Kagawa getting into team with all the new signings.....wake up everyone.....last season Fergie rotated the squad on a weekly game basis all season. Players got games and were brought on as subs every week. Can't see this changing much either this season. Rooney, RVP, Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa, Scholes, Cleverely, Nani, Young, Valencia, Carrick and Anderson will be rotated constantly.

The only place I don't see rotation happening so much is in defense. The one place we need stability is at the back. Hopefully this will happen and the rotation of the attacking players will keep them fresh and hungry!

Believable31 Unbelievable5

Agreed. I think we have had a fantastic transfer window. We have replaced Pogba with an equal talent. Signed the attacking midfielder that we needed that was named in the balon'd'or candidiates and the best striker in the EPL. We also have the best centre back in the EPL back and one of the most promising British players around fully fit. To top it of we have De Gea who is more experienced and has bulked up and also Scholes for a full season instead of a few months. Lots to be happy about. Just need a left back now and perhaps a CM.

Fergie only said rvp may be available for Monday. Not that he is going to start him. Hasn't he only had 20-30 mins of game time this pre season. Also 2-3 days may not be enough training time for him to get used to our ways and other team mates. I personally think he will be on the bench. Not sure about the team lineup or formation. All depends on who is fit and ready to give there all for the first game. We all want a good start!

REDP

Believable12 Unbelievable2

Totally agree, unsure of line up but do think Kagawa will start with RVP coming on for last 20mins depending on score and tempo of the game. But he'll get a run out within the 90 to show him off to the fans.

Tommy

Agree0 Disagree0

Bang in here . Clueless fans hit the unbelievable as usual . RVP wont be thrown in. We're not Liverpool and throw in semi fit players to try and win games . I'd be surprised to see him play more likely to go with squad and get first 30 mins at ot!

Agree0 Disagree0

20-25 mins off the bench will do him the world of good. No point in starting RVP from the start. Perhaps against a low level team he may have started but Everton will give us a very good game.

Your guy at carrington is lying to you mate sorry to break the news.

GALWAY RED

Agree1 Disagree0

If any of this happens, I would be amazed. Nani going out seems like a possibility if the right offer arrived. But, I have never gotten the impression that Fergie is eagerly trying to sell him on. As for Hernandez, they just signed him and in his first season, he was a massive surprise hit and already went far beyond what we could ever have expected or hoped for. Ferguson has also gone on to mention him amongst a group of 4 strikers who he considers near the level of Yorke, Cole, Sherinham and Solskjaer and I hear that his agent has also said that he loves United and there is no chance of him leaving.
But,m having said all that, this is footbll and stranger things have happened. Did you hear about how much Liverpoool paid for Andy Carroll? No, it's not a joke, they really did pay that much!

Does your mate do a lot of poetry? Have you ever met Hernandez or seen an in depth interview . He is a nice joyfull young man , he appreciates he is learning the game here .He is not the type of guy to throw his toys out the pram he is grateful to be at the club and we love him too! SHANDY

I have no problem with this statement, unless something happens to Evra. Presumably we wouldn't have the option to recall Fabio until January if the worst were to happen.

None of the names mentioned. Martinez but hearing likely to go to Bayern and I am shocked us and several other major clubs dont seem to have shown much interest. Apart from him and the pretty unfathomable likelyhood of Schweisnteiger, I am happy with our summer business and apart from a shocking marquee signing (yes another) or a realtively unknown Henrique/Powell type purchase I dont fancy any of the names getting bandied about. For the first time in years not even worried about our midfield as we have plenty of options for the next season at least. Think this may well be reviewed next summer dependant on many circumstances. Only area concerns me is left back, but like original poster I dotn see anybody worth buying either as anything other than a stop gap, which seems pointless otherwise we should just have kept Fabio.

So with Fergie saying if RVP is available he will start on monday I believe that will see Kagawa used as a central midfielder with Cleverley while Carrick is pushed into defence but then what happens when Carrick is in midfield as he will be first pick in there ? Kagawa benched or Cleverley benched?

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Nick Powell ????

Agree0 Disagree1

They'll all play a lot id say

Dustbin

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon it will be Carrick and Cleverley/Scholes in Midfield, Ferdinand and Vidic in defence and Rooney with either Kagawa or Welbeck... RVP will start on the bench

RedKnight

Agree0 Disagree0

Who's to say that Carrick won't be benched? Remember, Cleverley and Anderson started so well together last season with a vibrant, high-tempo partnership and if they didn't suffer those injuries, who knows how they might have developed as the season went on. Competition for places will be fierce and also bear in mind that various midfield combinations will be used for different games so they will all get game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I didnt think kagawa was available due to international duties with japan?

Robbo

Agree0 Disagree0

We could always do a 3-5-2
De Gea
Evra Ferdinand vidic
Valencia kagawa Cleverley carrick nani
Rooney van persie

Believable3 Unbelievable2

I think we will look at a tough midfielder, a left back and if Nani is sold we should look at a replacement. We do need to shift some players first though.

Cban

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah it seems that he has refused to RULE OUT leaving Porto as opposed to refusing to leave..

Agree0 Disagree0

Joao Moutinho stated only today that he would be interested in a move to Spurs. So I'm fairly sure he would be interested in a move to Utd.

Agree0 Disagree0

TBF I would love for us to get Moutinho - with 2 from Carrick/Moutinho/Cleverly sat behind our current attacking options I think we would look very classy

More likely he will end up at Spurs though

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Anderson, Fletcher, Jones and Scholes and possibly Powell and Tunnicliffe also Gav? And before you say it yes, I know Anderson still needs to prove himself injury free, Scholes only has a season, Fletcher may not get back to full fitness, and Jones long term should be a defender, but personally I think that is plenty of options for one more season at least. Cleverly and Anderson could both be like two new signings this season on there own
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Moutinho will be a Spurs player within next 48 hours. Levy was waiting for confirmation before allowing Modric to get on a plane. Expert a fee of Ł28 Million to be announced.

Ed002 If your around can you please explain how the IPO went or is going?? {Ed002's Note - Not good. The club has been valued at a lot less than hoped for.}

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Not quite true. The share value in this case bears little or no resemblence to the true value of Utd as a whole.
Why? Because unlike regular shares these are pretty worthless. Not much more valuable than those "star ownership" certs that were all the rage a while back.
Thats because they hold a 10th of the rights of a regular share. So even if you bought the full lot your 10% share of Utd would be pretty worthless

Agree0 Disagree0

TBH I cannot see how the share offering impacts Utds worth because the shares offered are worth almost nothing, no rights and no dividends isn't a valid share at all in my mind.
Can't see how it was ever going to work out anygood

Ever since Ronaldo left we have virtually played without one because we gave it to Owen who hardly ever played. The team isn't picked on the squad numbers. Do you really think that if Berbatov isn't gone yet and RVP is given a shirt in the 20's that Berbatov will play over RVP because Berbatov is the number 9..? Utterly rediculous argument.

RedDevil19

Believable24 Unbelievable2

I don't think it was 'because he is number 7' as in his number means he should play. But I think most people believe giving Valencia the number 7 shirt when he had a different shirt number before is a signal of intent that Fergie believes he is going to be playing a lot this season.

In my opinion he deserves it and should not be left out, but looking at having the best front 4, with all players interchangeable it would have to be Nani, Rooney, Kagawa and Van Persie, leaving Valencia to either play centre midfield or right back, neither of which are his preferred positions.

GDS

Every game will be different. Valencia requested the number 7 shirt if I remember as well.

At a press conference announcing bwin as the club's official online gaming and betting partner, Sir Alex Ferguson spoke about the deal to sign Robin van Persie, stressing he hopes the striker will be available for Monday's trip to Everton. "The fee has been agreed, which we're delighted about," he said. "He's on his way up from London and will have a medical later this afternoon. We hope that goes according to plan. His agent is in discussions with David [Gill] at the moment. Hopefully all these things will be tied up by the end of the day. Sometimes the medicals take a little bit longer and it may carry on until tomorrow morning but I'm sure he'll be available for Monday's game. It's great to have a player of the quality of Robin van Persie coming into the squad. I'm very pleased."

Surely now would be the time to steal Sahin's loan deal to Arsenal or Liverpool. We probs don't have much money left so getting a loan makes sense, then if it works out we sign him next season, if it doesn't we just let him go back to madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's likely to go to Liverpool apparently, the Ed's on their page seem confident anyway. I agree though he could have been a good option for a year, to allow players like Cleverly, Powell, Petrucci and Tunnicliffe to develop further in the mean time. I personally think he will just go back to Madrid after a year and that's not really in SAF's style. I would have thought it more likely if there was a serious option to buy at the end of the year

Looks like united will sell Hernandez and berbatov
Now we've signed van persie we will have Rooney + van persie as our main strike force welbeck as back up henriquez looks okay he can make it into the team if we have any injury problems and i think that it shouldn't be too long before Powell rises up the pecking order so berbatov and Hernandez need to leave
I heard Hernandez could go to arsenal as part of the rvp deal and berbatov is being linked with many premier league clubs as well as clubs like galatasaray and zenit

Believable4 Unbelievable20

Berbs will go and no others we wont sell little pea are you mad!!

PBMUFC

Agree1 Disagree1

No, just no.

Henriquez looks ok so we should sell Hernandez, are you mad? Henriquez is 18 years old, by the time he is 22-23 van Persie will be 33-34 and ready to move on.

We are planning for the future as well as having quality now. Selling our youngsters would be a massive mistake imo.

Berbatov is going anyway if an offer comes in, which I hope it does as he will not have any place in the squad otherwise.

GDS

Agree1 Disagree0

U dont know much do u mate!
Firstly, yes Rooney and RVP will be our first choice partnership.
Secondly, yes Berbatov will leave.
Thirdly NO Hernandez will not be leaving, he and Welbeck will b 3rd and 4th choice strikers (Fergie always sees it necessary to have 4 strikers given the amount of games)
Fourthly, NO henrique will be going straight back out on loan to the club we got him from.
Finally NO, Fergie has earmarked Powell as a central midfielder, and this is where he will be playing in the reserves and for the first team probably in the carling cup and easier games.
Read up a bit more mate!
Very excited for Monday!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does Hernandez have to leave? The club have four strikers. Two for the EPL & League and two for the cups.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we sell Hernandez? The lad is fantastic from the bench and has been noted for his ability to read the game from the bench in the same manner than Ole used to do. I really hope you are wrong!

MDJ

Hernandez won't be sold. Obviously.
Berbs is as good as gone as far as Fergie is concerned.
Fergie says that having Hernandez, Rooney, RVP, Welbz and Kagawa gives him options like he had in '99 (Yorke,Cole,Ole and Teddy).
Clearly we're not selling Hernandez. Great player anyway.

A friend of mine in South America who I met last year on holiday in Cancun has told me that apparently United have enquired for Hector Herrera from Pachuca. He's also a Liverpool target and got gold with Mexico at London 2012. I can't say i've paid much attention to him so can't comment on his abilities. He looks a bit like Busquets in physicality though.

RedDevil19

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Pachuca duo Marco Bueno and Hector Herrera have been identified as targets for Liverpool and Manchester United, the club's chairman Jesus Martinez Patino has revealed

this was in May....

RedDevil19

I saw most of mexico's games in the olympics, if im not mistaken Hector Herrera can be deployed in the CM/CDM role.... Herrera returned from the London games with a knee injury (think a torn meniscus, not sure about the exact medical term for it), so i would believe a swoop for him would be doubtful. How would he pass a medical? He has said he will be travelling to guadalajara, mx to check the severity of the injury and to determine if he needs surgery; which in that case will probably be taking place then and there

Tuesday training the players were split up. Keepers, Defenders, Midfielders & Strikers.

Giggs was with the defenders. He's played LB before & Brady & Blackett aren't up for stepping in when Evra needs a rest.

Giggs used to be a winger, then as he got older moved into the centre and had to change his style.
It's not uncommon for a player to move back as they get older. The late Gary Speed for Newcastle & Wales.
Blackmore, Sharpe, Fortune, Richardson, Brady all United midfield players that have tried LB position.

Giggs has proven before he can slot in nicely at LB many of times before. Lets face it we all know he won't get much game time in centre midfield these days. So cover for mid & cover for LB.

Evra will miss the COC games. Giggs can step in for 70mins then hopefully when 2or 3 up go off for Blackett.

FA Cup I'd trust Giggs & also rubber stamp Champions League games. Alongside Rio playing LCB as he does now I think it would be fine. He would probably have to play Young on the LW as he covers back more than Nani.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

If Giggs cannot keep up on the wing anymore, why would we put him at the back where he will be facing the same attacking players? If I was the opposing manager, I would aim my attacks down that side as it's the weak spot.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

Has fryers left yet because he'd be an ideal cover for evra

Agree0 Disagree1

That's okay if you want to rest Evra, but what if he gets injured or continues to loose ability. Giggs can cover but if he has to step up for a couple of weeks in LB, he'll get found out .

Tommy

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't like the idea of Giggs at LB at all.
Like someone said, if can't take the pace on the wing, why would he manage it better at LB? If he gets exposed at LB, then someones in on goals, if he gets exposed at LW, at least he still has a LB behind him.
Giggs is a true legend but shoehorning him into any position doesn't do him any favours.
Lets play a LB at LB, eh. Please.

We can recall Fabio at any time what I assume they would do if Evra got injured

For anyone saying we should sign Lewandowski instead of RVP here is a couple of reasons we shouldn't.

1. Angelo Henriquez. This guy is 18, pacey and can finish, has all the traits to become a great striker and will be learning off two of the best in the world for a few years. RVP has now joined and has about 4-5 years left in him, at that time Henriquez will be 22/23 and ready.

2. RVP has proven his class in this league and when fit is brilliant. I know he has his injury problems but if he plays only 25 games this season but still scores 18 goals then that is fine.

1redarmy

Believable13 Unbelievable4

Aren't you forgetting Will Keane.

Berbatov wants to remain in England and is on his way to Fulham, a 2yr contract will be offered. With Dempsey & Dembele soon to be off the books they can offer him a record breaking contract. Martin Joll knows the player well & hopes he'll be influential to the up & coming young stars.

A new strike force of Berbatov, Petric & Rodallega.
To replace Johnson, Dempsey, Sa, Pogrebnyak.

My old college buddies from Fulham say we're very interested with Dembele, offering 10m. Fulham wanted nearer 20m. This was January when Clev & Ando plus Fletch were all out.

With the purchase of van Persie recently Fulham have made a move for Berbatov AGAIN!! now they would be happy for us to have Dembele for 10m PLUS Berbatov if he would sign a 2yr contract with them.

Not relevant to United, but Fulham are also trying to sort out a deal for Petrov from Bolton on loan.

Petrov & Berbatov are best buddies.

So in a short summary: we tried to buy Dembele when our midfield were short in numbers. They said no. We re-signed Scholes.
Do we need Dembele now? we do need to get Berbatov out.
He's too good not even to make the bench.

Dembele is 25, can play CM (new position) LW/RW and CF.
I think it could be a Valencia signing. Good player made better with better players around him.

Would he improve us?
Or is it better to wait next season for a chance of Goetz, Eriksen, Sahin or whoever.

Just think of it as 34 million for kagawa and rvp now that's a bargain

Jay-c

Believable39 Unbelievable5

I cannot believe how MUFC fans can complain, when we have moaned for years about not getting in the best players; who will always cost more when they come to OT.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not the cost of RVP as such that bothers me...it's that signing RVP practically negates the purchase of Kagawa.

His ONLY effective position is behind the striker. He is nowhere near as effective out left or in a 442 midfield. Very perculiar signing imo.

Great to have a top player like RVP come in, but Fergie's signings this summer make no sense to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

36m for Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud - now that's a bargin. 24m for a 29 year old that has ever only lasted one season for arsenal is good business for arsenal- that being said, I will concede he did carry us last year, however I don't think he will ever have another season like this.
