Ed/anyone? Any truth in the story that we are signing Germany u17 CB captain Jonathon Tah?

Supasub

Believable6 Unbelievable9

I have seen him play quite a few times coming up from around 14 I think (if my memory serves me correct) He is a huge guy at 6ft 3" and a force at the back and if we can get him I will be happy as larry.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still the only English club team to be world champions and we have done it twice. Lets not take that for granted. Just because the FA would not let us wear the patch. To South Americans it is the biggest thing in club football. I AM KLOOT

Believable48 Unbelievable4

So glad Benitez didn't walk straight into winning that, would have been so underved.

Gav

Agree2 Disagree0

So glad Cheslea f****d up there last chance of silverware for at least a year and a half.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

What's the FA's reason for not letting us wear the patch Kloot?

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

What KLOOT means is that nearly all clubs would have the world club cup patch on their shirts for the rest of the season or until the next final normally above the club badge or centre of the chest. The FA would not allow us to use it that season after winning the competition.
A disgrace really. We could wear it in CL etc though.
Seperately, When we won the old version against Palmeiras (intercontinental world cup) we actually completed a quadruple for 1999.

Forgot to add my name.... That's a first.

Anderson possibly on bench for next game !

Big V

Believable23 Unbelievable4

Is there a bench in the physio room now??? I thought our injuries were clearing. Take a number & sit on the bench. The doctor will see you soon.

In all honesty we could do with his pace, power & skill ASAP. Was looking epic before limping off.

TJ

Agree0 Disagree0

It will take him three months to get back to the level he was at before he got injured. Great for the first 30 minutes and then non existent and completely knackered as usual.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, and I can hear it creaking from Bury !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Get in, he's been in form lately and is a likeable player

What does everyone think of manager's comments that he will not be bringing anyone in in January.

I do realize we are leading the league by 6 points but do we have enough in the current squad to win the league and compete in CL late stages?

It does also sound like we might not be selling anyone in January either as The Roma interest for Nani is a loan interest and I personally don't believe he would agree to that.

Finally question for the Eds, is there any truth to the stories in the press that we have had a bid turned down for Zaha?

Shahram {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any rejected bids. Crystal Palace will look to hold on to Zaha until the summer and if they get promoted perhaps after that too. He was to be allowed to move this past summer at the right price with Sunderland, West Ham and Reading look possible destinations. Liverpool have certainly looked at Zaha in the past but there is strong interest from Arsenal and Manchester United. Game time will no doubt be a factor in the short-term.}

Believable3 Unbelievable7

Truth is we are a very lucky side.If it was not for Rooney and the best forward in the league RVP we would be border line Champions League spot.Midfield is where our problems start and end.Defense would be fine if it was not for the ease that teams get through our midfield and at the back four.

Agree1 Disagree4

Hopefully with no more injuries to key players, we can win the premier league and even challenge for the champions league ( even though Barcelona, Bayern, Madrid and Dortmund can beat us ).

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Just watched the Club World Cup where Paulinho bossed the midfield. Energy, strength, positioning and good passing. If only, SAF could see the light!

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't think he was all that, reminds me of Klebereson. thought they were well organised and that's about it. We should not be taking a punt on some ropey brazilians hoping they'll suddenly transfer good form to Manchester unless they've shown good form in Europe or Britain.
We should be looking more east to Europe/eastern block/Scandinavian countries....Solskjaer, Stam, RVP, van Nistelrooy, vidic....etc.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see us beat city to ciriagliano of river plate.......future midfield star.......also why does fergie persist in giving run outs to giggs and scholes.....surely it would be much better to blood the young players giving them 20/30 minutes when we can....also rather than closing games down these boys would bust a gut to drive the team on, to prove a point

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree on the Cirigliano point I think he will be top quality. Bit I really see no need in Zaha. If we had a year of patience then we could see Januzaj and Daehli come through, they could be world class but it seems we have no patience to let academy players come through!

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember lads, just because Fergie says we're not going to sign anyone, doesn't necessarily mean we're not going to sign anyone. You see it with him often saying players are injuredonly for them to line out the next week. I'm not saying we will definitely sign someone but he has been known to tell a few white lies in the past

Jomu83

Agree1 Disagree0

Fergies persistance to stick with giggs and scholes will result in us losing out on better midfield players and will make our younger players want to go play football elsewhere. Surely he can see that they are both a year to old as both have lost 2 yards of pace at least and just are not good players any more.

Agree0 Disagree1

Yeh I think if he could get rid of nani in January he would but it seems nani wants to wait until the summer to get a full pre season behind him. A shame because his value will drop in the summer.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

SAF's statement must be true ... it's been reported on that most reliable of sites (!?!) Caught Offsh1te! LOL!
Mike B.

Agree0 Disagree0

It baffled me what he said about not signing anyone in Jan.
So again he is going to loose out on potential signings like Strootman, Wanyama that we could get cheaper in Jan and end up paying double in the summer because they have good ends to there season so there price will inflate.
He has an obsession with buying forwards (Lewondowski) and wingers (Rodriguez) when the biggest problem is staring him in the face, the central midfield.
When will he realise this??

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Our midfield will get found out against the big sides in europe as per usual !!

so fergie confirmed we are not buying any player in jan.Last thing i wanted to hear.....................
sid

Believable26 Unbelievable2

Yeah posted the same thing. disappointed because Cleverly, Carrick Anderson,Jones and Fletcher are our only real viable centre midfielders and to me that is too light. Not questioning the quality of Carrick, Cleverly but after those 2, I am worried, because the other guys are not consistent and as reliable.

Anderson is very injury prone and has fitness issues and takes forever to come back to fitness levels required, Jones is good but not sure how he would perform as a centre midfielder and fletcher is not what he used to be and ok against second tier opponents.

In any of big games the first choice pairings are Carrick, Cleverly, Jones and Anderson. Unfortunately as we get to the serious end of the season, most of games in the league and CL will be of more significance.

Any injuries to key midfielders will leave us exposed and unlike him, I don't not believe Giggs and Scholes can do a job when it matters. I believe if carrick gets a long term injury we are screwed.

I hope it does not come back and bite us on the a...s.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's just hope another club forces our hand by moving for one of our targets like Newcastle did with Rooney. I'm sure if Milan follow up their interest in Strootman then we'd act, I'd like to think so anyway. Parks

Agree0 Disagree0

We all want Evra, Nani and Giggs replacing but Fergie loves Evra (know idea why) Nani will have to be sild to be replaced and that is with we can sell him quick enough to get someone in and a central midfielder.. I can see Strootman coming but in the summer and that is it.

Agree0 Disagree1

The last thing i wanted to hear was the coment about our midfield and how fergie is obviously blinded by loyalty.

Tacticallyinept

Agree1 Disagree1

Is fergie stupid or what? The reason we were fantastic for a hour then holding on at the end mr ferguson is because we had scholes and giggs on the field after a hour! What do you expect when giggs is giving the ball away and scholes cant keep posession under pressure any more. And then to rub salt into our wounds you turn round and say that we are not weak in midfield and wont be buying any players in jan!! Lets just hope he is giving giggs and scholes enough game time to win a medal then keeps them in the reserves or on the bench.

G.N.G

Agree0 Disagree1

Take it with a pinch of salt lads.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

No salt nd pepper syd!!
Saf has proved his words in last 3 winter windows and in 2 summer windows..
So if any one feels its his mind games then will buy some 1..is just dreaming positive.
Rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

No more signings after RVP. Along came Buttner. Then Fergie said no one else will come in. Then came Henriquez. Fergies a sly old fox with transfers.

TJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I just think that there are a lot of availability issues with the january window i truly believe if one our long term targets (strootman, benatia, zaha) were available at the right price it would not matter what transfer window we are in we would go for them. I also would not be surprised to see something happen with sneijder !

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that Wanyama or Strootman will come in the summer. SAF has never spent a lot in the winter transfer window. It would be a bonus if Cleverley kept playing like he did in the first half yesterday. Up to now I've always thought Tom to be very average, except in the first couple of games last season. If nothing else a Wanyama style player would increase our chances of winning the league by 10% - 20%. However, because he is cup-tied in in the ECL I can't see SAF buying him in January. Then I never expected any big signings this winter anyway.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly it would be nice to have a deep lying play maker or left winger but our squad is better than we make out. Kagawa will be back soon and will make a big difference around the middle of the park and in retaining the ball and he can play wide left like he did for Dortmund. Vidic is also on his way back which should sure up our defense. We are 6 points clear and things are only looking better in terms of our squad so i'm really not that bothered that we might not buy in January. Lets look to our academy for a change eh....

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Dan agree but he will not play anyone from the academy or reserves. As history has proven he will play the younger guys less and less as the season goes on. I dread the thought of scholes and giggs in games that are important. we suck with them on the pitch.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Great point Dan. I think people seem to forget Kagawa...he'll be back for the new year and will make a huge difference in our ball retention. I also have a lot of faith in Jones...big strong, confident lad.

Roach

Agree0 Disagree0

Forget the champs league our midfield will get found out like it has in the last couple of seasons. still waiting for keano's replacement sign strootman in january he is not cup tied.

sparkyred

Agree1 Disagree0

We signed keano's replacement in hargreaves but we all know how tradgic that turned out! Without a midfielder we are going to be found out when we have to rotate as apart from ando, clev and carrick the rest are past there best and we cant relay on these 3 for the rest of the season

G.N.G

Agree1 Disagree0

Need a World class keeper

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, need a defensive midfielder

Good morning everyone,
We know that Shinji will be back soon, prolly next week or so and I find it hard to imagine where he would slot in. We have to agree that the 4-4-2 is the best we play and it would be harsh on young to replace him on current form and kagawa would be wasted on the right. (assuming there is no chance he will replace rooney at the hole). So what do you reckon ....bench time?
DJ

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Well for now we're lucky to have weeks between matches, but come december 26th our calendar really picks up, plus in the new year we have the FA Cup and CL to deal with, so I'm sure his time will come with proper squad rotation.
I wouldn't mind seeing young start on the right, rooney through middle and kagawa on the left, and rvp up top to complete a very fluid and dynamic front 4

Agree1 Disagree0

Kagawa would not be wasted on the right at all... He is both footed and has a lot of ability... I just can not see Fergie playing Young over Valencia.

Agree0 Disagree0

Put young on the right ang kagawa on the left because I dnt no what's wrong with valencia he is just not the same player RegTheRed

Agree0 Disagree0

In pre-season he was excellent alongside Cleverley in a 2 man midfield.... Next to a Carrick or a Fletcher he could do the role similar to Cleverley and Anderson

RedKnight

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa is better than young and Valencia he will be playing either on the left or right its only a matter of time. I would actually rather see Kags on the left and Young on the right instead of Valencia because I feel it balances the team better. Valencia offers what a traditional winger does but it does disrupt any free flowing football we could play with Young and Kagawa on the flanks.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

RVP up top and a fluid attacking 3 of Rooney, Kagawa and Young. Though they may start as Wayne in the centre, Young on the right and Kagawa on the left, they are all top player, with great flexibility. Trouble with Tony V is that he is very much a right winger, though on his day very good, he is a little predictable and very one footed. I'm more concerned with the 2 more defensive minded midfielders. Anderson is always injured and has stamina issues,Cleverley,so good in the first half yesterday, is usually pretty average. Giggs and Scholes were legends, but there time has past.Fletch still doesn't look 100% to me, he seems woefully lacking in the pace department. That leaves Carrack, Jones and Rooney,(who can do more damage further up the pitch).Evens could do a job in midfield. He's an excellent passer, tackles well and is tenacious. He could shield our back four effectively.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with everything you said mik except I'd like to see Jones in beside Carrick in midfield I think Cleverly is pretty average and a good 45mins against a poor side isn't going to change my opinion! I hope he proves me wrong and this goal gives him the confidence to push on and live up to the hype that a lot of people have laid at his feet, still honestly believe he isn't good enough tho

Flash

Agree0 Disagree0

We do not play 4-4-2. Our system is a 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 at times. And yes there is a big difference between that formations.

Kagawa can easily play as a left-winger or back-up for Rooney when he needs a rest.
