Europe's biggest clubs - including Manchester United - are monitoring Gerard Pique's blow-up at Barcelona this week.

Pique was dropped by Barca coach Pep Guardiola for victory at Champions League opponents Bayer Leverkusen, with both the Catalan and Madrid press agreeing it was for "technical reasons".

The former United defender was blamed for defeat at Osasuna and it emerged yesterday that his advisers have been urged by Barca to speak with Pique about his behaviour.

Europe's biggest clubs only includes teams in the Champions League.

"I had to pick an 18-man squad," Guradiola told the post-match press conference. "Mascherano is suspended for the game against Valencia on Sunday, so I couldn't afford to lose Gerard. I also wanted to bring in Bartra, who we'll need in the near future.

"Pique knows I love him. He's not angry about it. He knows he's untouchable and is very important for us."

There's no story here.

I dont see him leaving Barca but if he did, I cant see him back at United. Im not sure SAF would have him back. Perhaps a move to City is most likely? I could see Chelsea showing an interest too.

Lol pique is barca thru and thru...the fact that the media tried to create a story sums it up...

pep even went to discard their rumour sayin he loves pique...i dont think it gets any more clearer....love? ffs pep get a room

Valencia out for a month according to official website, very bad news.

He's been a class act recently, playing direct, providing for the forwards, which I though Nani and Young failed to do tonight.

Jonny Evans was by far man of the match, he was a rock and took the ball out of defence brilliantly. Nani and young weren't at their best, but they improved in the second half. Cleverley wasn't great, but he hasn't played since October so it's understandable.

I think Eriksen played very well, given the dominance we had on the game. He was their only attacking threat and played some nice pass and move football, but you could see his frustration as his team mates couldn't read the game like him. I would like to see him come in, he could be molded in to a brilliant player.

Percy

Believable14 Unbelievable2

Young played well, he too has recently come back from injury

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

I know, but neither him and Nani have been out for as long, and I fully expect them to be firing on all cylinders in their next few games.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to disagree about the Ajax comment, i though Sulejmani was very tidy today, a long with Eriksen and also De Jong showed some good touches.

Valencia is a loss admittedly, but Nani and Young are more than capable of chipping in

=v1=

Agree0 Disagree0

What exactly did Eriksen do well?

Agree0 Disagree0

Moved the ball well, dribbled well, he was their most dangerous player by a country mile.

According to United website Valencia out for a month, just when we start getting back players from injuries we lose our best player at the moment. It's been that kind of year.

Is it just me or does Young even look better then Evra wen it comes to tracking back and DEFENDING?!

Nik Legend

Believable7 Unbelievable10

Young.... sorry but where you watch a different game. He's not man utd class, loses the ball to much.

Also nani very little end product

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani no end product? You compare the stats to his and Ronaldo's first 100 games at the club you will see Nani has a better end product that CR7 himself!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Feb 2012 20:11:03
Keep Anderson, he won't be going anywhere. Nani I'm not so sure, but even when he has consistency he's one of our better players and still fairly young. Eriksen was alright I suppose on that showing but he couldn't handle the maestro when he came on. Kagawa has impressed me alot more recently. Just my opinion.

Supasub

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Eriksen is the creative midfielder, today against Manchester his team could not keep up and then he was foeced too far back and that is not really where he has most influence.
i still think he was THE player for Ajax today

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Feb 2012 19:54:03
It was hard to judge Ajax's players tonight as we dominated most of the 2nd half

I thought Eriksen looked bright and sharp when he got the ball - but need to see much more of him play before my mind is made up

I also thought Vertongen (spelling) looked strong, was immense coming forwards especially. I think he'll do well if he comes to a club in the Prem

Gav

Believable8 Unbelievable2

I thought Eriksen was very average to be honest. He didnt look any better than what we have. Maybe a bit a harsh as the Ajax team wasnt great, but he didnt impress me at all. However the central defender Vertongen looked good. Strong, good on the ball, good passer, likes to get forward. I think both of these need to be seen more but at the moment I think Eriksen has got a lot more to prove he is worth the hype as tonight he did not do it for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Offer Ajax £30m for the pair, they can only say no.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Was going to post earlier saying that I fully expected this board to be full of people saying 'Eriksen isn't good enough' after the game tonight but never got chance.

I thought he played well in the circumstances, he is by far the best attacking player in that team, they were playing against united and it was always going to be difficult. You cannot judge a player on one game and we definitely need to see a lot more of him. If you watched nani tonight you would say 'he's rubbish, not united standard' because he had a poor game. Eriksen was better than nani and young tonight IMO.

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

I was presonally very impressed with Erikssen, wanted the ball all the time and was very clever in possession, spotted passes and with quality around him like we have, COULD be a brilliant signing. £15 million bid should do the trick.
SC

Agree0 Disagree0

I think with Eriksson it's down to price. Ajax won't sell for less than 25 million euros. That's about 22.5million , which I think is a good deal. Up to 25 million pounds I think is OK. I would prefer Gotze but Dortmund wouldn't except anything under 40 million euros (35 million pounds) and with so many teams being interested in him, I could see him going for 40 -45 million quid. I wouldn't want Gaitan for 35million, to me he's a 20 million tops. However we need someone creative and a midfield destroyer. Anderson, Cleverley etc are fair players, but as of yet are not United class. I'd love to see Martinez and Ganso/Hamsik at OT, but can not see the Glaziers coming up with the 70 million they would cost. i pray we don't go after Sneijder,to injury prone and to old for the money. I can't see SAF having more than 30 million plus any money from sales. I hope Tunnicliffe measures up, he's always been the youth midfielder I rate the most. Morrison was too stupid, Pogba's good, but clearly has no loyalty. So I hope SAF has some bargains worked out.

i think you can tell its nani's first game in a while.
In fact that could be the problem with united, 3 of the midfield 4 are just coming back from injury thats maybe why it not's quite as crisp and quick as we would like

I don't care who we sign as long as we get rid of nani. What a waste of space. Most over rated player I've ever seen. Valencia Is twice the player nani is. Am I the only person who sees this?

Joe.a

Believable17 Unbelievable16

Its his first game back what did u expect young is playing worse than him

Agree0 Disagree0

Really....... quick to judge pal, he is good and you know it

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes good but not world class or irreplaceable
too inconsistent, if a good offer came in i think it would be considered , but i also wouldnt expect cleverley nani or young to find top form for a few games

Agree0 Disagree0

Right. Wait till he is fully fit. Watch a full game and count how many times he wastes a chance. I hope you can count after using your fingers and toes. If not get a family member and or friend to help you. Maybe even use their fingers an toes after you have used up your own.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

Think its just you pal

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your being a bit harsh. It's his first game since his injury, also Ashley young wasn't impressive was he? Think both players need game time with cleverly. Was disappointed not to see pogba again!

Agree0 Disagree0

It may be his first game back but Nani's decision making is consistently poor wether he is fit or not. There is no point putting on the rose tinted glasses - he has flashes of brillance and scores some great goals and assists but he is also incredibly wasteful. Granted last night he was not match fit but does that really excuse some of the decisions he made.

Agree0 Disagree0

You clearley knwo NOTHING about football, probly cant even kick a ball! Downing nani. he is one of the best in the world! you want to judge him on a game coming back from injury... but when he produces magic you you probly jump out fo your chair!

Agree0 Disagree0

Both players are coming back from injuries. How long did it take valencia to find form this season?.......it took 4 months. Nani and young have not even been back for a month. It doesn't matter, we can all see you are talking from your backside.

Millz

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani is too erratic great when it comes off but majority of games very frustrating for fans as well as teamates,i dont care if he,s been out for a couple of weeks he should hit the ground running.his crossing and final ball are poor and some of his play last night was very sloppy.if he wants to stay and grow at utd he needs to improve.ashley young other than his goal didnt do much either other than the start of the season he has been very poor and is very predictable.
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree no end product with crosses.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani's like marmite but I really like marmite. He is one of our best players though despite having bad periods. There are a lot of players I would get rid of he is not one.

Manchester United made enquiries about £33m-rated Dortmund starlet Mario Gotze, claims agent Dirk Hebel.

And, according to Hebel, the talented midfielder is being courted by some of Europe's top clubs.

"I think in Europe all the top clubs are interested in Mario," Hebel told calciomercato.com

"I can confirm that I have had contact with Juventus and Manchester United, but not only them."

One potential stumbling block behind any such move is the player's hefty price tag, which Hebel indicates Dortmund won't budge on.

"I don't know if he'll go away after this season, you should ask Borussia. But I think that they will not let him leave for less than £33 million.

"He still is very happy at Dortmund, though now he is injured."

fergy answer when asked if scholes could play for england again
"Do you really honestly believe that? I don't think there's any chance," said Ferguson.

"His reason for refusing last time was that it was late in the day and he felt it was fair for the players who had got them there to be involved.

"To play for England after eight years would be a big step. I think Paul will be concentrating [on United] if he decides to go on of course.

"That is not settled yet. But with the form he is showing at the moment, there is no reason for me to think he couldn't do another season."

We loaned diouf to blackburn then sold him to hannover didnt we? The OP is just predicting that it doesnt work out for macheda at united- and i agree with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you propose something though in two years time. It ridiculous and redundant statement, some unknown star might be the next big thing at that time. Kiko Macheda may be banging them in, Anderson may have finally lived up to his potential. If I propsed chelseas dealings in 2013 you'd say how do you know anything etc, it's exactly the same but I don't support them, and since when has being a fan mean you know anything about your clubs transfer dealings.

For arguments sake, do you think we could get a good deal for Gareth Bale if we used Ferdinand in the deal? I'd love to see him here and i don't think Ferdinand will play much part after this season in comparison to what he has done in the past.

RedDevil19

Believable6 Unbelievable4

So why the hell would Spurs want him if he (Ferd) is unlikely to feature much for us?
Albert

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you think Spurs are stupid? Bale is quoted at £50 million so why would they value Ferdinand at £25 million ? I am sure they would take Ferdinand on a free but they would never pay for him due to injuries and poor form.

The agent of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has confirmed the interest of Manchester United.

His agent, Dirk Hebel, claims several of Europe's top clubs are chasing the attacking midfielder, who has not featured for Dortmund since December 11th due to a groin injury.

Hebel named United and Juve as two suitors who have been in touch over Gotze but insists the Bundesliga club will not let him leave for less than 40 million euros (£33m).

"The agent told calciomercato.com: "I think in Europe all the top clubs are interested in Mario. "

"I can confirm that I have had contact with Juventus and Manchester United, but not only them.

"I don't know if he'll go away after this season, you should ask the Borussia. But I think that they will not let him leave for less than 40 million euros.

"He still is very happy at Dortmund, though now he is injured."

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Sounds good. £33 million i better than I thought it would be considering the amount Barcelona are likely to pay for Neymar. We seem to be top of the list, hopefully we get him.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

It might be just the agent trying to get Dortmund to give his client a big contract, I'm hoping it's true united are finally after some young players with real world class potential since we bought ronaldo and Rooney. If united are interested I mario gotze, maybe put In a double offer for mats hummells aswell. This summer is crucial to what united do in the summer. A few more older players should be cleared. My ideal signings would be: gotze, hummells and alba.

What do people think about this Alan Pulido that we are being linked to? Is this the young striker that many of us have been expecting with the clear out of Kiko, Diouf, King, Cofie & Morrison?

I wouldn't be surprised, we will get a striker, but won't spend big on them so its possible...

So far any one of Pozuelo, Pulido, Gabbiadini, E. Torres could come in. I have no real preference.

RedDevil19

Cofie is on loan at Antwerp, when I said clear out, I meant no longer at the club either by loan or permanently. If Cofie can rediscover his form that he had before his big injury he would be a great player, we will have to wait and see mate. At Antwerp he will play every game and that is what he needs.

I think people should forget about the Kovacic snub rumour too, you remember the rubbish about Gill not giving SAF £10m to buy him? Well, his contract is up in the summer and will be available on a free.

Sydney!

I know a little bit about this although it is old news.
Someone visited zagreb to meet the owners and the two players Kovacic and the other (whatever his name is) At the time the owners wanted About £7-£8 million ish/ About 9/10million euro's ish for Kovacic (less for the other player but I cant remember how much) which is considered alot generally for someone who i think only just turned 17. The other issue was that i think they wanted all the money up-front. The owners i think pretty much own at least that 1 player outright abit like some italian club owners have ownership rights on some of their players. This can lead to valuations & fee's being changed quite a bit which makes deals tricky sometimes.
The people who went out there have close ties to Modric but I'm not sure if they are involved with Kovacic right now. At that time they were told of definate named interest from united but there was definately an issue with the type of deal which would make any purchase tricky. He told me then that he thought tottenham was his most likely destination but that might have changed since then. We still have an interest in Modric who united reps have met with at least 5 or 6 times up to end of 2011. But i think hes 26 now so if he doesnt come this summer, (if our transfer policy is the same) I can't see him joining after. Imo his contract is a bit shorter this summer though which will mean that he is a bit cheaper this summer than last. Any deal is tougher still though if tottenham qaulify for CL which now looks likely.
Back to Kovacic though (and I'm sure someone can clarify) a couple of months ago quotes saying he favours a move to us over anyone else when the time is right. Because of this I think there is definately something still going on there. Like Syd's post I think it's more like Saf is a bit unsure on the deal. For people to suggest Gill won't back Saf for 10Mill is imo nonsense.
This person I know has told me a couple of times that at united only 3 or 4 people at most know whats going on regarding targets and decision making, (even i can guess that 2 are SAF & Gill) and are one of the most secretive clubs.
We can speculate though and I've always tried to follow what's going on but I never recall seeing much when we signed Vidic, Evra, nani or anderson for instance until about one or two days before signing.
