A newspaper has once again linked us with Barca flop Alexis Sanchez. Some how I think that this is another example of lazy journalism to sell papers.

Fresh!

Believable18 Unbelievable11

Myabe maybe not, would be off the radar and maybe not as costly as certain other targets that are frequently named, we were interested, maybe he knows he made the wrong choice.

Agree1 Disagree0

F*** Alexis. When at Udinese he had only United and Barca to choose between choosing the latter. United don't take sloppy seconds even if this story had some sort of truth in it which it doesn't.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Quoted price is £26 million - I imagine we could get Rodriguez for less than that.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets not be silly. Alexis Sanchez is the sort of player that would fit straight into our team. It is hardly as if he disrespected us and if we turn our nose up at every player who decided to go elsewhere then there would only be a handful of quality players left. Besides, he chose Barcelona not Man City so let's give the guy a break. I don't think we'll sign him though.

TK-Red

Agree2 Disagree0

You can't say that Ozwald. He was young, maybe he feels as though he made a mistake. Its like you saying, 'I wouldn't want Ronaldo back because he left for Madrid' - its stupid.

Fresh!

Agree2 Disagree0

Slightly OTT there Ozwald. He chose probably the best team in Europe as the time and the Spanish league probably seemed a better fit for him too. Hardly disrespectful. TBF if I weren't a United fan I'd probably choose Barca!

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

The article says the asking price "could be up to 26 million", which probably means (a) the Express have got no idea & (b) we could get him fr a fair bit less.

The other things this highlights is just how great a player Pedro is. When Sanchez signed Pedro's position became threatened and he has really stepped it up this season, such a brilliant little player, one of my favourite wide players in Europe. He will go down as a Barce great IMO.

PJ

Agree1 Disagree0

I think is signing is unlikely, but he would be a fantsstic signing if he can cut out his diving antics.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh why do you always bring up Ronaldo? lol it's completely different mate Ronaldo had already been at United for 6 years and helped win us loads of honors, he deserved his dream move. The thing for me is that he obviously thought Barca is the club to be at not United so why do you want him? If he thinks he's made a mistake then that's his own fault. Besides he's not going to leave he's higher in the pecking order than Pedro.

Just because players get left out of the starting XI doesn't mean they're going to leave people need to stop eating all this sh!t being fed to them by dodgy journalists.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

He isn't higher than Pedro at Barca. Ronaldo is an easy comparison to make. In my opinion your arguments are rediculous in this instance - just because he elected to go for the Barca, the best team in the world at that time over us doesn't mean that we should close our doors to his signing.

Fresh!

Agree1 Disagree0

He is no 'flop'. highly doubt he will be leaving. david villa is the one man who looks definate to leave. if both went they'd be short for wingers with only pedro and a couple of youngens, unless they have neymar or someone in the pipe line

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I said, if we turned our nose up at players who thought their career would be better playing elsewhere then there would be nobody left. Would you tell Oezil to piss off if he wanted to sign for us? Or how about Gareth Bale? Even Edwin Van Der Sar turned us down in 1999 and went to Juventus. What does that say about him? If Lucas Moura plays for PSG for 2 years and then SAF shows an interest, would you be displeased?

TK-Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Okay well he might not be higher but for Guaranga's sake just because he's on the bench doesn't mean Barca are going to sell him does it? Other squads need strength in depth too, and he isn't exactly a flop there. He may not have scored much but he's a talented player who gets involved and provides assists.

You must be r******* to think Ronaldo is an easy comparison to make? How in anyway shape or form is it similar? Ronaldo didn't snub us for another club that could have been doing better than us. He already said it was his dream to play in Madrid and won almost everything he could with us, where is the similarity?

Do you not think or agree that you'd rather have a player join us who's dream it is to join Manchester United? Players with a true passion such as Rafael who just love the club and give 110%. It is my opinion that Alexis Sanchez hasn't got the right attitude for our club. There are players out there that would relish the chance to play for United would you not rather have them?

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

TK-Red has taken the words our of my mouth, I need not reply to your latest post Ozwald.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

If Barca had not come in for Sanchez I'm sure he would have jumped at the chance to play for us, but when the European champions and one of the greatest current club sides comes in for you and offers you the chance to play alongside the like of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta it is hard to turn down.

Plus as said earlier, there would be no language barrier and the climate would have suited.

If Barca had not have come in for him Sanchez would be sowing the love and loyalty that Rafael shows now. If he is available, he would improve us and regardless of previous career choices we should jump at the opportunity if it presents itself. {Ed002's Note - Sanchez will certainly be sold in teh summer - your view on what happened before a move to Barcelona are well wide of the mark.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do you think he would entertain a move to us?

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - There is no interest from Manchester United right now and I have no idea what the player thinks. I think it most unlikely.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I would agree ed. Rodriguez will be a likely and very good but. But you never know what SAF has up his sleeve!

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - I would love the club to push on for a move for Gotze and Rodriguez. A front 4 of Rodriguez, kagawa/Rooney, Gotze and RVP would be sensational}

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be exceptional, but for now I think that a front 4 of Kagawa, Rodriguez, Rooney & RVP will be pretty good with Valencia, Zaha, Young, Welbeck and Chicharito to bring in. And I'm hoping Fisher.

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - I don't think it would be impossible to bring in Shaw, who is surely better than Evra defensively and very good going forward, wanyama/bender either for defensive duties probably Wanyama for his eye for goal and Cabaye/Modric along with Rodriguez and Gotze signed. Selling Nani will raise a good amount and I reckon Valencia could be sold as well. It would be one hell of a team and put pressure on all players}

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say, I love these chats with you ed004. I think Shaw has Chelsea written all over him to be honest. My plan would be to this year bring in: Digne, Strootman, Rodriguez, Fisher, Zaha. Nani will give us the funds to buy probably Strootman and Digne whilst out transfer kitty will pay for the rest. We may also sign Begovic to replace Linders and if Ferdinand leaves then Zouma maybe.

I'd then love to see us splash out on Wilshere the year after. But Modric would be great. What would your thoughts for that be ed?

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - I have not see Digne play and haven't really heard of him being mentioned that often on this site. I assume he plays left back. I would be happy with Strootman and Rodriguez signed and Fisher is a great talent from Ajax but him and Zaha are similar.}

Agree0 Disagree0

And I don't think we will see Gotze leave Dortmund to be honest. Ed do you know or think any different?

Fresh! {Ed004's Note - I can't see him leaving Dortmund unfortunately.}

ed that lot would come to over a hundred million we won't get a great amount for nani and valencia, I think we could scrape eighty million together but I don't see fergie whacking that amount out come summer. {Ed004's Note - I reckon by selling Nani and Valencia along with some other squad players we would easily afford to pay for one of Rodriguez or Gotz. Therefore Wanyama, Cabaye and Shaw could be got for around 40 million or so then both the wingers would cost 30 million so around a 60-70 million net as one is covered by the sales of both wingers, though I do not think there is any chance of this happening}

Agree0 Disagree1

I agree with what you're saying. But as you said, this will not happen. I'd like to think my suggestions are plausible though, 4 - 5 players at reasonable prices with realistic departures.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Out of curiosity ed, Verratti was earlier mentioned on this site. And his agent has said that Fergie likes him, as do Barca. Is this the agent trying to get something going or have we been scouting and taking a large interest in him? From what I have seen he is someone who could come in straight away and perform - as well as having age on his side to develop.

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - Marco Verratti's move to PSG in the summer was unexpected as all indications were for a move to Juventus. If he were available in the summer there would be plenty of clubs interested, not least his most likely destination Juventus.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah ok, thanks ed. I did think that Verratti may move to Italy given that he is Italian.

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - He is Argentinian - but he has an Italian passport.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I was actually watching 1st leg semi final champions league last year in stamford bridge, but Sanchez seemed to have weak mentality and didn't seem him playing well in Premier league especially when physically he can't stand defenders. Also even with Barca, he wasn't able to perform well either, so with United, really?

Right then, time to prove how good we are against Reading.

Squad to be rotated in (surely Smalling will get a start. and hopefully Hernandez Cleverly Ando Young Nani?)

If this squad is truly one of SAF's best we need to come through on Monday night against a decent Reading team.

Madrid will have taken a lot if focus over the last week, SAF will be earning his corn now, focussing the players back onto the FA cup we so want to win again.

DodgyBanter

Believable20 Unbelievable1

Really looking forward to this game now as half the players will feel like they've done their part then the other players that are likely to start against Reading such as Smalling, Young, Chicha, Nani, Cleverley, Buttner and Ando will feel it's their turn to produce a great result I really think we have the perfect mix and perfect amount of players to rotate this season. Fingers crossed anyway.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

My guess

Lingaard

? Smalling Vidic Buttner

Nani Anderson Cleverly Young
Giggs
Hernandez

cant think who may understudy at right back to allow Madrid team rest

Agree0 Disagree0

To the last poster who left no name.

velencia. in at rb. he needs to try and find something in his game because at the minute as a rw he is average.

Apart from that I would agree on the rest of the team. maybe tunns for giggs holding behind clevs & ando.

nani and young either side of chico.

would be great to see Adnan Januzaj on the bench too.

a couple of the u21's in and a couple of big hitters on the bench just in case. if we turn it on and build a comfortable lead then what an experience for Januzaj, if not then one of rooney/rvp to come on and win the tie as it may be a different game depending on how the 11 play. if the front 5 play like the start of last season we could be in for a treat. let's hope so.
