@ Sydney

We have our four this season, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez & Owen.

Owen will be sold in the summer and Welbeck will be back in to fill his place so we will be back to four again.

Whats all this talk about another striker?
Sorry I missed out on the rumours today so I surely missed something? But all so far, the above was going tol be the United front four for this season and next?

Sydney! {ed's note - do you know what mate, I really can't think of anyone other than Benzema or Suarez. Benzema must be out due to Higuain's injury. . }

@Fergie did say that he likes to have FOUR top strikers, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez &? ?

Welbeck will join up with the squad next year, I think Diouf, Owen & Macheda may be sold in the meantime. With Rooney struggling and Berbatov missing far more than he scores its not that surprising he could be looking for a new striker is it? United had five strikers for the first half of the season, maybe Fergie could play next season with Five strikers.

Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Welbeck & Suarez? Its better than Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Macheda & Owen I suppose. With Suarez only valued at ‚Ǩ20m (£16m) could he be brought in? Can he play in the CL?

Its a strange one Ed!

Sydney! {ed's note - Macheda definitely looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford, unsurprisingly with his attitude, Richardson was sold for less. I think Welbeck will get his chance next season, but I really can't see Owen staying, he barely gets a game. Oh I did think of one other person that was linked in the summer - Rossi. You do have a buy back clause.}

I am becoming more and more frustrated that there is an apparant lack of transfer activity in January, which leads me to the following question:

Why did we spend 7m on Bebe last summer?

As far as I am aware, and please corrected me on this, he played for a Portuguese 2nd division club, then transferred to Guimaraes for around 250k, then suddenly became hot property.

United justified the transfer by publicly claiming we had to move fast due to Real Madrid's supposed interest (which they have categorically denied). We therefore secured him for a staggering 7m!, but he is on relatively small wages. Does this strike anyone as bizarre?

Interestingly, SAF distanced himself immediately by claiming that, on the advice of a scout, he and Gill sanctioned the deal.

Why then, if we can be so gung-ho to spend 7m on a player that SAF hadn't seen, and that he has subsequently admitted needs significant day-to-day technical coaching (code for not good enough at this level), why arn't we in the market for say, a Steven Pienaar at 3m?

This transfer is either gross incompetence for a club which is yet to justify numerous claims by David Gill that substantial transfer funds are available, or something more red devilish has taken place.

Would anyone be surprised that next summer, Bebe will join a Portuguese team on loan, and ultimately transfer back to a team from his homeland for an undisclosed fee?

And hyperthetically, would anyone also be surprised if some of the transfer fee has found its way across the Atlantic?
(Its always emotive when the club announces its financials which declare loans and management fees totalling millions going to the Glazers).

Giggs and Scholes will not last forever, and they will continue to be used sparingly because United are more and more desperate to keep them going. I'm no expert, but I can't see anyone nearly adequately to fill their boots.

I fear without significant quality coming in, we are in real danger of loosing our current top quality players who can see the writing on the wall (ie Rooney contract spat this year) and we are heading one way whilst City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and others pass us by.

@I have just heard from a mate of mine, he is not a United supporter and he does not know anyone in OT, however he does know bits and pieces about other clubs, well he has just told me that United are in for one player this month and its a striker. I hope to god he is wrong but he says its common knowledge amongst his peers that United are eying up another striker.

I don't know who and I don't know when, but if my mate is right then United are looking for ANOTHER striker. I have been racking my brain trying to think of who we could buy, I cannot think of anyone.

Any ideas Ed?

"Breaking on sports channels on the net - Barca intend to hijack Inters 18mill bid for Sanchez.

Their offer said to be 20mill."

@Its a strange one that Barcelona want him, not that he's not a great player but the fact that where would they play him? How will he fit in the team, how would he fit in the squad come to think of it. They already have two holding midfielders in Mash & Busquets. Why buy all of these players which they will not need?

They have Pedro, Messi, Villa, Bojan, Jeffren & Afellay. How is Sanchez going to fit into the squad? Besides I thought they were skint? What's happening Ed?

@Come on lads, we are join top of the league with two games in hand on City, we are two points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand & we are SEVEN points ahead of Chelsea with one game in hand. We are undefeated in 26 league matches, 21 this season and we will have Valencia back next month, we have Scholes back for next match and we have no new injury worries.

In my opinion we have just played the hardest game of the season, I would rather play Chelsea, Arsenal or City away then play Spurs away again. I seriously believe we have played our hardest game this season and come away with a draw. Things are good. Would you moan Ed?

Sydney!

{Editor's Note: Would I moan? A little personal, eh.}

@Ha ha someone's in a good mood, are you the Chelsea Ed or United Ed? If you are the United Ed then you are probably relieved more than anything, if you are the Chelsea Ed then don't get too happy, we are still potentially TEN points ahead of you!

A bit of info, David Moyes has confirmed that a 3m Chelsea bid for Pienaar has been accepted.

Sydney!

The rumours/opinions do make sense about Man Utd being in 'due diligence'.

However it wasn't long ago that some Chinese billionaires were after purchasing Man Utd.

Still think we should go for Pienaar can't understand why Spurs wouldn't pay £3 million for him. Bargain.

Looking at Man Utd they do lack a creative midfielder and a top forward. Rooney has been sacrificed for Berbatov. Would love Man Utd to go back to 4-5-1 we look more clinical and pose more of a threat.

If we didn't have any debt then the Glazers would be really good owners as they have brought in alot more sponsorship. I know people will think yeh obviously they would be good owners if we didn't have any debt. At least they let Fergie get on and manage Man Utd. Would the Qataris interfere like Man Citys owners do + Abromavich does at Chelsea.
If so Fergie would go.

Ed what do you think?

Sydney what do you think?

Also any1 else what do you think. {ed's note - sorry but they were the ones who loaded the debt onto the club. So, in effect, you are saying they would be good owners if they weren't such terrible owners. Anybody who uses a leveraged buy out is a bad thing.}

@Sydney and the rest of the Sanchez posters - we are no longer interested in Sanchez. We have stopped talking to his agent and are not bidding for him.

Fact I'm afraid.

We are however after another of Fergies favourites and I don't think you are all going to be very happy. But you know SAF when he states someone is good and he wants them he sticks at it.

Benzema. - Part of deal involving Evra I'm afraid. SAF unhappy to be losing Evra but happy if he gets Benzema in deal.

Mourhino doesn't like Benzema - but wants Evra - SAF only man on the planet who wants Benzema- hence talks late on Thursday with Real and reason we are not moving for Sanchez.

These are facts I'm afraid.

Source known to be right and ngiak with his rumour re 15mill or there abouts may also be about to be proved right with another sneaky bid for another SAF favourite on the cards costing 12-15mill. I know no other details but I'm sure ngiak/gan has by now.

Interesting week ahead guys.

I would prefer keeping Evra and having neither sanchez or benzema but as we know SAF rates Benzema above all others. Good ness knows why. Lets all hope this one does fall through.

Lee.

@Lee

I can tell you right now that is is complete an utter rubbish. How many times do you get a part exchange in this day and age? it just doesn't happen.
Evra might leave, We might get Benzema but i no way, shape or form will it all be included in the same deal.

I've heard nothing about transfers recently, but i was fairly sure we wouldn't sign Sanchez and it looks like we won't be signing him now. Although I wouldn't mind having Pienaar for a few Million. Chelsea have denied bidding for him and Spurs aren't willing to meet the £3 Million valuation, Could be a good bit of Healthy competition for Nani, Park and Giggs.

although, saying that if Giggs is going to continue like he says he wants too then that may be the reason we've pulled out of the Sanchez Deal, or then again maybe we just enquired and never did bother with anything concrete.

@ Sydney - seems to me Utd talk to lots of agents but nothing comes of it does it, anyway Sanchezs agent just a few hours ago in an interview in Spain confirmed they are flying in tonight to speak further to Chelsea so don't think its all done and dusted with Utd far from it, Chelsea are a full length clear of us at the mo. Thats direct from his agent so I think he knows better than us or you on this one. No offence Sydney but he's the agent doing the actual deal so I reckon he knows more.

Marcus.

@@

Are they not flying to London to have talks? If that's the case Where are Utd playing this afternoon?

Could well be listening to both interested parties. I would like to think if that was the case then Fergie would stick around and give a personal appearance himself, might be the sign Sanchez's team needs to clinch the deal!

2 questions:
I sis true if due dilligence is taking place a club cannot spend?
Do we expect Sanchez to be a WHL this afternoon? We know he is in London and it would make sense if SAF's interest is serious for him to be invited to spectate or even his agent?

Stu {ed's note - it is difficult to do much when a club is in the middle of a takeover, but due diligence precedes that and would not affect anything.}

*Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is reportedly ready to step up his pursuit of Manchester United striker Michael Owen, with the Wearsiders boss preparing to raid his former club again.
Owen has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by this season and has played just nine games in five-and-a-half months, but Bruce is ready to offer him more regular football at the Stadium of Light.

The Sunday Mirror have quoted a source close to Owen as saying: "This is not about money - Michael will get a fair contract but he is more interested in playing and scoring."

Exactly where Owen would fit in at Sunderland is a bit of a mystery however, as Bruce has club-record signing Asamoah Gyan and prolific Premier League striker Darren Bent at his disposal.

But with both strikers currently struggling to find the net and Danny Welbeck used more often as a wide player, Bruce could be prepared to turn to Owen to solve his finishing problems.

The Sunderland already has former United players Phil Bardsley and Kieran Richardson in his ranks, while Welbeck has impressed in his loan spell from Old Trafford for the season.

It's thought that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is also keen to keep Sunderland on side in case he considers making a bid for Wearsiders starlet Jordan Henderson in the summer.

Agents making no bones about it but he wudn't would he, hes happy for other clubs to know they are talking to Chelsea in the hope some other club comes in with a bigger offer.

Sanchez is being auctioned off and has no allegiance to any club at all. So Utd are not in the driving seat with this deal at all. And his agent may have been talking to Utd for ages but its not got us anywhere has it.-Richie.

@Rich, if we bid for him then he will be coming to Old Trafford, if we do not bid for him then he will end up at Chelsea. Meeting with Chelsea officials does not mean anything, his agent has met with Inter officials before this. If United want him then they will bid for him, if we don't want him then he will end up at Chelsea.

@Its quite simple imo, if United equal Chelsea's bid and personal terms he will join United, but the question is; Will United follow up on their interest of him?

Isn't that the question Ed? United are favourites but only if they follow up on their interest of the player and make a formal bid.

From Oct 2010 and an interview with Sanchez and a Spanish Newspaper-

Regarding a possible Transfer he replied "United, Obviously I'd like to play for a club like that! Malaga? Why Not? Whatever the side, all is dealt with by my agent, he talks to the clubs interested. I am not interested and don't get involved until any negotiations are at an advanced stage".

This is clearly a guy who hasn't already chosen Utd but will be swayed by his agent and the best deal on offer.

I think we can assume that the talks with Chelsea will therefore progress and lets just hope SAF is in the mood for a conversation with him also.

Bit spooky that the anon poster leading up to Christmas talked of a 1.3bn selling to Qatar and that is what is in the NOTW today and all over the net. Do you think our mystery poster was perhaps a journo who did have a story or two and was hinting at stories to come. Just a thought - seems a bit of a co-incidence. I think the Qatari rumour has some guns to it. The figure they are stating will be paid is £1.3bn. Then as we don't know where the £200m came from for the PIKs it could have been a forward payment from the Qatar Royal Family.

This would then equal the £1.5bm which was thrown about before.

DUE DILIGENCE FOR HEDGE FUNDS AND FOREX

Due diligence investigation with regard to hedge funds refers to an in-detail review of a hedge fund's activity, conducted in order to ensure that the fund is in compliance with its prospectus. It is a roadmap for existing and potential investors in understanding whether a specific fund will meet his or her investment horizon, risk tolerance and investment strategy.[10] In a non-exhaustive list, due diligence in the United States would consist of an examination of:

* A fund snapshot
* Disclosed investment strategy
* Historical returns
* Assets under management (a copy of the fund's portfolio from the custodian is usually requested)
* Audited financial statements if the fund is regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
* Fund's terms and details
* Regulatory registration if any
* Risk factors
* Valuation

Every investor is going to have different investment horizons and risk tolerance, as well as a strategy preference. It thus follows that there is no "best" hedge fund, but a fund that most closely matches investors' preferences. An investor should almost always:[11]

* Request consultation from a professional
* Read the fund's prospectus or offering memorandum
* Understand how a fund's assets are valued
* Understand how fees are charged
* Understand any limitations towards the redemption of shares
* Research the backgrounds of hedge fund managers

The term Operational due diligence is often used to describe the due diligence process used by hedge fund investors, particularly where this incorporates, or focusses largely on, operational risks.

Just a reminder we don't know how they "sorted" the PIKs and whether there is still a debt.
However, I repeat I heard there was investment from outside to pay the PIKs off and then there is something that may happen in summer.

Red Man

@I don't believe this Qatar rumour is completely made-up, for a start the Qataris have refused to deny the rumours are true. What I think is happening is the Qataris are either making offers which keep getting knocked back or they are using a middle man to try and find out what amount the Glazers would accept. Lets not forget what the Red Knights said, they said the Glazers unofficially named a price but that price was too high.

So I think they may sell if the price is right, but I cannot see the Qataris being held to ransom and I think they will pull out. Apart from them, there are no other people who can afford us. So we might just have to deal with the fact that the Glazers will be around for a few more years yet.
