So according to the mail via a portugese reporter the Fernandes deal is now in doubt because they want 55 million plus bonuses
We are only willing to pay 44 million plus bonuses. how true is anyone's guess

It's the summer repeating itself again. How much of the stories are true is anyone's guess but they all set us up to look terrible when he doesn't sign. Be prepared for leaks that the club aren't interested or have moved on to try and lessen the negative press.

Whatever happens I cannot be the only who remembers the comments in the MEN last summer at the end of the transfer window that UTD didn't move for Bruno Fernandes as the feeling from the coaches/ scouts was he gave the ball away a lot in dangerous areas . strange turnaround now.

True. The rest of our players in that position don't give it away lots, they never pass it forward so no worries there.

Shock horror the club tries to negotiate a transfer fee rather than just paying what the selling club ask for.
So many people on here complain that our club repeatedly get taken for a ride and over pay on transfer fees, yet they are also the first to complain when the club actually spends time negotiating a transfer fee.
It's almost like whatever the club does some people will find something to moan about.

Fernandes wants to move. Sporting need the money. Why would you not negotiate down the asking price. These things take a bit of time but I feel confident United will agree the transfer and we can then all focus on the next player linked.

The time to negotiate was Maguire, the overrated cb we overpaid for. The time to negotiate is not now, for the player the team direly needs, and not a single supporter I've asked thinks sportings demands are unreasonable in any way.

But surely the negotiations with the clubs could have been done in principle long before the window opened? Bruno wants to come to us. The club need the money. This was established ages ago so why not a simple box ticking and signed in the first week of the window. I don't get why we are only starting to negotiate once the window opens.

I can see the melt down on here if this transfer isn't made. I know it's frustrating for some posters when transfers take time but we are not preview to what goes on. Yes it's true Ed2 gives us impeccable information when it comes to players the club is interested in but he also informs us that he can't give us the timing or blow by blow updates on when transfers are to be completed. So all we can do is continue to wait.

United want the player.
The player is happy to come.
Sporting have set a price.
United unwilling to match it and keep offering less.
It’s not too complicated to understand. The transfer is being held up since the summer because United, despite all evidence to the contrary, think they can magically get Sporting to accept a lower offer.
Pay up or move onto another target. It’s amateur behaviour and just embarrassing at this stage.

His "agent" (and I use the term loosely) says the player has no interest in joining Spurs or Arsenal but his client is the ideal replacement for Pogba or Kante and is attracted by the money available to players in England. Valencia, Real Madrid and Napoli are others who have been looking at him on a regular basis - but price is an issue. Until the summer Manchester City had an interest since he was at PSG and it was suggested he could fill the role of Yaya Toure well. Monaco saw him as a Bakayoko replacement but have stepped back. Watford pressed Lille in the summer but they would not sell. Brands wanted him at Everton but was forced down the Gbamin route by an advisor. Newcastle and Leicester also showed some intert that went nowhere. Not first choice but RM are talking about an offer of €40M plus a loan back. Probably one for the summer unless someone plays well over the odds.}
