Evans off to Everton for 8m apparently, good luck to him and hopefully we've got someone lined up to come in

Nice to see classy responses to one of our players leaving, rather than the usual, 'I'd carry him there myself' comments.

He had potential but needed an experienced top class partner. Kept us going at the back one year and scored a couple of goals. Good luck.

Carrying a dead wet log can be tiring. 😂
To be fair to the lad, he wasn't Man Utd class but always tried whenever asked to. At United, if you try enough, you have my respect. Abilities can vary. The thing I love about our club is we have tried to give chance to everyone all the time even if it has cost us. But you can't continue that if you want to win all the major honors.

Bada dum dum dum . Another one bites the dust. Think the writing was on the wall for evans after last season. Similiar to O Shea , very promising start to careers , but never seemed to improve with time. We are either going into the season with the bare essentials , or Ed has got some aces up his sleeve . That's ed Woodward by the way.

16 Jul 2015 22:05:09
Had a fantastic season 3 or 4 years back, was probably our most consistent CB that season . it wasn't all Rio and Vidic!

Wasn't great last season and it's the right time for him to move on.

Agree6 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 22:29:26
Never mind, Noucamp. it was good while it lasted.

He was given a chance to step up and as we all know it didn't go well. But his heart was always in it so show him some respect for at least that. I agree with Charlatan about 3 seasons ago and tbh the first shocking game he had, I was shocked to see him play so bad. Maybe if the insatiable ones got behind him rather than on his back it would have ended different, but alas it didn't.

Good luck to the guy.

16 Jul 2015 23:02:46
And take a step forward, the new breed of fan - he was good a couple of seasons ago, but he was poor in an injury-hit season last year, so I want a shiny new plaything, preferably tanned.

Even if he's not now good enough to play at Utd, and LVG will be the ultimate judge of that, not a bunch of spotty, teenage fans, he's still a decent premiership centre half. Any player who leaves our club, providing they weren't cheating the fans with their lack of effort, deserves a bit of respect, rather than the childish, spoilt brat comments that flood sites like this at such times.

Good player and good luck to him.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Jul 2015 23:25:55
I know and iv known for 7 years he's always been a liability. Iv been a part of many collective groan when he's been on the team sheet. He is the worst defender in the prem since titus brambles and how he lasted so long is an absolute miracle. Every defender that's gone before him has been a better defender. His distribution is shocking his composure is non existant. I gave an example the other day of when we was knocked out the cup by west ham when they put 4 past us and his performance was the worst defensive display iv ever seen in professional football shortly followed up by his cameo at mk dons. The only logical explanation I can think of that he's donned that red shirt for seven years is that he found a magic lamp. He is the taibi of defenders i'd rank him championship at a push.

Agree2 Disagree5

16 Jul 2015 23:28:12
Noucamp stop acting like he was doing us a favour aswel its boring he didn't play for free and he got a lot more out of the situation than we did.

16 Jul 2015 23:27:41
Noucamp, was that directed at me?

My comment to you meant- I agreed with you, it was nice while the decent posts lasted.

Maybe, in understanding that, you will read my post in the right light.

I agree he was injured a lot but when he came back he was made to step up and it didn't work.

So, if your comment was at me. i'm effing offended. If it wasn't.as you were, gentlemen.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 08:08:28
No monkey it was at me because Noucamp has adopted this self righteousness whereas anybody who wants new players is spoilt. So just so were all clear I would want Evans gone even if a "shiny new" player wasn't brought on board because the thought of him standing in that back line for another season is too much for this 31yr old spotty teenager

Agree0 Disagree1

17 Jul 2015 08:28:47
whoatealldepays seems just like JMB, probably just as arrogant and flipant I suppose you are going for the panto villian slot. Banter is one thing ignorance and such a dissmisive attitude is totally another. JE will leave i'm sure he has been a good sevant and has more footballing knowledge and talen in his little finger than you will ever have whoatealldepays.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 08:55:01
Evans is a good defender, but we've known for years that he was unlikely to ever amount to more than a squad player.

On the flip side of that, I often thought that under SAF it was the graft and determination of our "squad" players which did more to make this club great than the dazzling abillities of their more gifted peers. All the big clubs had some exciting stars, but only united had such a dedicated and committed bunch of squad players backing them up.

Good luck Jonny, you earned our eternal respect, even if you weren't good enough to win our love.

Ken

That has got to be the most childish post I have ever seen. that's like saying Audley Harrison is a crap boxer then someone saying well he could knock you out! I am nothing like JMB I gave my opinion and was called spoilt and a spotty teenager so I gave my evaluation of noucamp. My opinions are consistent and just as anybody else has the right to voice there's i too have that right.

Agree1 Disagree3

17 Jul 2015 09:28:40
I thought Jonny was fantastic a few years ago, never complained, always worked hard for the team, was never the most technical player but always put a shift in, to say he is the worst defender in the prem since 'Titus Brambles' is just ridiculous, Evans has premier league medals and champions league medals that he would probably wear whilst laughing at you.

Joining this site and arguing with regulars probably isn't the best way to go about it WAAD, even if you do have the best name we have seen on here for a while.

Evans has played 131 games over 7 years, some of them he has been poor but I would say in 131 of those he gave 100% effort, more than can be said for some of the prima donna's that play these days. If Jonny is to leave the sure he does so with a heavy heart and I for one wish him all the luck in the world, especially when he plays against our rivals City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Agree5 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 09:51:24
We obviously see him in different lights GDS which is completely fine. My main problem is with people making assumptions about me and the driving forces behind my opinions. I also don't conform to hierarchy ie the length of time someone has posted will not affect my decision to either agreen or disagree with them. I think I provided valid points to show Evans poor displays are not limited to last season. i'm sure plenty of poor players have prem medals with utd and other teams around the world in their respective leagues that does not mean they are not poor it means the team was good. Again I am not trying to butt heads with you GDS I am merely giving you my opinions and the reasons behind them.

Agree1 Disagree2

17 Jul 2015 10:02:25
i don't think evans has ever been a poor or below average player, he just never really made the step to top quality

Agree3 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 10:13:13
I am totally fine with that, I was just giving some friendly advice, this site can be like a dysfunctional family, we get on and we disagree, me and jred butt heads constantly but there is a mutual respect there (I presume from both sides, maybe he hates me).

You don't need to agree with a regular to conform to hierarchy, every single regular is happy for you to disagree with them and have your own opinion, but then you have to be able to take it when they give it back.

You made valid points to show his poor displays were not just last season, but you also called him the 'Taibi of defenders', 'worst defender in the prem' and 'garbage', which in my opinion is just total nonsense and you haven't backed them points up at all. I think a little respect for him wouldn't go amiss, that's all.

Agree3 Disagree0

17 Jul 2015 10:52:59
Point taken mate. I can see how that may be a tad harsh, I am not and have never been a fan so maybe his errors stand out more to me but he has made some contribution to our success over the years so I guess I can give him that.

Marca claiming that United will allow De Gea to leave on a free next summer. However, if Madrid change their mind on signing him in a year's time, they will be required to pay a penalty of €5m (£3.5m) - which is his salary.

Not sure if this helps in landing Ramos, but I think that ship has sailed and Otamendi will be signing shortly.

Agree5 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 16:29:03
United should talk to De Gea and Athletico Madrid about a possible swap including Jan Oblak. And they should break this story to the press so that De Gea should feel pressurized before rejecting Athletico. All this just to not let Real sign him and screw them over. Moreover that is the only good chance of us getting Oblak. Downside would be that our relationship with Real will turn sour ( I have no idea if its any good now).

I read earlier that if Van Gaal was unable to get his first or second choice keeper that he will instead opt to use Sam Johnstone - a player he and the OT staff rate very highly.

If there was ever a time for Johnstone to breakthrough, this would be it.

Fellaini being linked with AC Milan this morning.

Last night LVG said Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Blind and schneiderlin were fighting for two positions. He didn'rt mention Herrera, which I assume means he will be the more forward of the midfielders.

The ADM comments suggest he's off as the questions were not met directly.

I think there could be a lot more to happen this window with the team looking very different to last season.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2015 09:16:59
Not sure the ADM questions suggested he was off, he said he expects him to report back on 25th July, if he hasn't spoke to him he probably has no more news than that.

LVG meant Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Blind and Schneriderlin will fight for the defensive midfield position, this does suggest we will play 2 in there in maybe a 4-2-3-1 formation. With the players we have this formation could really suit us. Schneiderlin can also play further forward, LVG suggested this by saying he has different qualities to the others.

I agree there will be a lot more happen, still think De Gea will leave and then we will have to buy a new keeper, a centre back and a striker.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 10:05:27
I think last season LVG played and did his best with what he had, and what he could get in, in a short space of time last summer, due to the World Cup etc. I think Falcao was a late summer gamble that didn't pay off and Di Maria I don't think was 100% an LVG purchase. We were poor at times last season, and LVG will have known that just like the rest of us. He was trying to get the squad he had used to his system, especially in training, but match day it wasn't so easy, as he didn't have players up to playing how he wanted,so he had to make do, and just get through to summer, I feel, with a CL place all but guaranteed.

Now, this summer he already has four players that HE wants, he has moved on some players that he feels weren't right and more will follow in and out. I genuinely think that this season we will see some great football, at United, and we will be pushing hard in every competition. Exciting times ones more at the Theatre of Dreams!

Agree6 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 10:13:03
I will be interested to see how he lines up. I still don't think that he likes Herrera much. I hope we play a 4-3-3 though, Schweinsteiger holding with Herrera and Schneiderlin ahead.

Agree6 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 10:24:55
The first couple of pre season games will be very telling as it will show how he plans to set up. My guess would be 4-3-3 as he has stated in a couple of interviews that's his preferred formation and the way he wants to go.

I'm still hoping we sign a right forward, with the players we have at the moment I think most people would pick a similar starting 11. The one position I have doubts about though is the right forward there isn't a proven one who will get a decent goal tally in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 10:36:37
Have always thought we should play 4231 and now we have the players to do just that.
Hope ADM stays as he gives us that creative X factor that CR7 used to give us and that Hazard gives to Chelsea now.
I think De gea will stay this year unless utd get a sensible offer from madrid. My hope is that madrid have a trophyless season like last year in which case de Gea might stay for footballing reasons.
PS There must be some nice girls in manchester that might catch his eye and help persuade him to stay!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 10:53:59
I think it will be more of a 4-3-3 diamond. Given that we want to sign a striker and we also have Rooney I think it will be two up front. Say, Memphis and Lewandowski with Rooney behind. The likes of Januzaj would also fit the formation being able to play in the number 10 or upfront. Fellaini could potentially play in that formation, even Young could to some extent.

Agree0 Disagree4

16 Jul 2015 10:54:11
I think that he'll play with 2 midfielders sitting deeper and 1 further forward instead of playing 1 deeper and 2 ahead of him, given the purchases and the fact that the wingers will need protection defensively, given the pace of the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 17:46:01
Interesting discussion on formations, can't wait to see how we line up in the friendlies.

On Di Maria - I did get the impression that the club are open to a move from what was said and not said. Who knows though, you can't take much from what the manager says about prospective transfers at the best of times.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2015 18:46:27
I'd like to see 433 there will be plenty of games for everyone.
Carrick is a starter if he's available and gives the same form the past couple of seasons. So 3 in the middle with basti and schnerderlin. Carrick is 34 so will rotate with Herrera for starting birth and blind I rate to. Forward line I'd like to see Di Maria Rooney and also mata if we get a striker then a dilemma but a good one. Depay to challenge Di Maria and mata for starting birth.

A couple of question for ed001, is lewondowski number 1 priority out of himself, benzema and cavani?
Also do you have any information regarding this new bid for ramos ?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I believe so, yes.
Nothing mate, as far as I am aware bridges were rebuilt and Ramos is closing on a new deal with Madrid, as of yesterday he was anyway.}

16 Jul 2015 10:09:11
For that first answer ed, you will do for me! If we can't get Muller, who would always be my first choice but no doubt 100% unobtainable, then Lewandowski is a total no brainer for 2nd option. The second answer,I feel Otamendi could do as good a job as Ramos, so I'd be happy with either anyway, or anyone of that quality really.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that Muller is something else fair play. Until you actually watch him closely he doesn't seem to be much cop. Then you watch him and it becomes obvious that he is truly world class.}

16 Jul 2015 10:32:35
He is unbelievable, and so so underrated by 95% of fans.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - people tend to be too busy watching the ball to see most of the game. That is why so many great players only get seen as great after they have moved elsewhere. Such as Makalele, it was only when he left Madrid the fans realised just what he did for the team.}

16 Jul 2015 10:42:07
Cheers ed. Lewondowski and otimendi would be unreal

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - is Otamendi that good? I have only seen him for Argentina and he looked a bit average for them. I try not to judge on internationals though as the game is so completely different from club football.}

16 Jul 2015 11:19:57
He was fantastic for Valencia last year Ed001. A main reason for their successful season.

I think he would be a great addition.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, I never got the chance to watch much football other than the Prem as every single Prem match is shown here, so I ended up watching every one of them. It didn't leave much time for anything else to be watched at all!}

16 Jul 2015 08:29:24
Got a mate badgering me about di maria and reus!ed i know you said di maria may very well leave but poss toward the backend of the window, but do you expect us to sell him?and regarding reus is he available and if so are we or would we be at all interested?thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - expect? No, this is footie and expecting anything always leads to you being proven wrong! He is available, but he is very limited in who he would go to, plus on huge money, so it really comes down to PSG or staying I believe. The chances of United agreeing a deal with them are very dependant on other deals, as they will affect how high PSG are willing to go and how low United are willing to go. It is really difficult to say, unless he or LVG start pushing for the move to go through, rather than just being open to it.
As for Reus, for the right price he is available, to finance their spending. I have not heard of any interest from the red side of Manchester. The blue side is a different matter though.}

16 Jul 2015 08:53:38
Yea i see what you mean anything can happen!hopefully di maria stays and i hope city don't get reus!thanks a lot ed appreciate it

Ed001, I know its more than probable that this is a repeat question and I know the answer already. But would you be so kind as to enlighten me as to where our actual interest lies regarding CB's, please?

Thanks

p.s. Nice spot whoever noticed my deliberate type-o in a previous post. ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the correction was actually a mistake by me, I knocked the screen with my fat fingers and deleted a portion of the post. When I pressed ctrl+z it came back like that and I thought it must have just missed off the l on the end. Things like that don't bother me. It is the usage of words like scum or other nasty references in posts that will get changed as a rule. I was wondering whether to leave it, but thought if it is put on there by mistake it is less of an issue than leaving it off by mistake could potentially cause.

I don't think anyone has actually asked me about centre backs other than Hummels and Ramos who you all know about. There is Otamendi, Varane (unlikely in the extreme), Vertonghen (again unlikely now as Rojo is there but it was an option considered), Mustafi of Valencia was also considered Moyes wanted him when he came in and the club have kept tabs, Toprak is under consideration, de Vrij enquiry was rejected, Matip is an outside possibility (I know little about him other than he was earmarked if Javi Martinez leaves Bayern as the replacement), Dragovic is one I would not rule out as a possibility as he has been tracked though I have no idea if he is seen as good enough, so the scouts might have watched him a lot and then ruled him out, Stones of course I nearly forgot, Bartra is an outside possibility, Sokratis and Hinteregger.
Those are the ones that I know were very closely tracked over the course of the season just gone.}

16 Jul 2015 10:03:34
Move over Ed002 with have a new Topcat in town! ;)

Cheers for all the info Ed001, consider it very appreciated. A few names there I need to research.

As for the fat finger. not a reaction to some of the unknown foodstuffs you were eating yesterday? how is the stomach btw?

To all the EDs. keep up the great work. thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - a lot of those names I know nothing about other than you having watched them too. There were others I was able to rule out as having been watched and decided against, some of those might be in the same boat but I haven't been able to find that out.

I have always had fat fingers, that is why I can't use those fiddly little phones, even on one of those phablet things my texts often end up looking like complete gibberish! My gf has become an expert in translating, usually after taking the mick out of me for an hour because I can't even type something as simple as hugs correctly. 5 times last night I sent huhs ffs! As for my stomach, it is surprisingly good, I haven't had any reaction at all. Yet anyway.}

16 Jul 2015 07:31:06
Hey eds. Is the rumours on Benteke true that we are pushing for him at £32.5mil? Also could you clear up the constant linking with gaitan is there anything there?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I can find out there is nothing happening with either in regards to Man Utd. I have been trying to find out where the Benteke rumours originated as I don't know where that has come from. As far as I can find out (sadly) he is just waiting for Villa and Liverpool to come to an agreement.}

16 Jul 2015 09:26:26
I think mainly what seems to happen is that anybody Liverpool are linked with then gets linked to United so that Liverpool fans on Twitter can say 'haha he turned you down and signed for us' even though we had no interest in paying the fee in the first place.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think it is also the media just trying to increase comments on their pages by linking the biggest rivals together creating an argument. It is about money for them.}

16 Jul 2015 10:02:56
Cheers ed. i'm glad in a way as i would much rather prefer lewondowski or cavani

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Lewandowski is light years ahead of Benteke in my opinion.}

16 Jul 2015 14:13:38
Ed001,

Good point, it's not the LFC fans fault we get linked to these players and can't blame them for then thinking they beat us to the player. I can't find many United fans who want Benteke but will still have to see them on lists of players who 'turned united down'.

Hey ed001,
Just wondering if you are out and get a chance to reply if united do end up selling di maria is there a chance united could push hard for bale?is lewandowski a target before cavani?thanks

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I honestly believe they have missed their chance on Bale this summer. Rafa Benitez is looking to build around him and James Rodriguez as the focal point of the team. Though they do need to sell someone to fund spending, it is most likely to be Benzema. Lewandowski I believe to be higher priority.}
