There is no doubt that Fergie by far knows the most about the club as he has effectively built the fabric of it over his time in charge but I feel that he is not as cut throat as he used to be in team selection. When we used to look at other teams we would rarely think that their players were better than ours but much more frequently I see 2-3 names each week on opposing team sheets that would undoubtedly improve our team. Case in point - spurs (Dembele, Bale, Walker) Newcastle - (Cisse, Ben Arfa,). Cant help but wonder what the effect of a new face would be??

I agree, but Cisse wouldn't get anywhere near our team and Ben Arfa would probably be a fringe player.

But one new midfielder would practically change how our team looked on paper.

Hoppy

How would cisse improvebour team?

Ben arfa would walk into the starting 11!!

Ben Arfa should replace Nani an he Sheila be our left sided midfielder ! Natural left foot easily takes on Rafael (Which Bale and many others struggle to do) and is an all round top player, world beater if he's at the right club.

CalamityManc!

You gotta be having a laugh.Yes the Spurs players are without a doubt good enough, not a player at Newcastle is of the right calibre to play for us.

TBH there are two players he didnt mention who are better than the two he did for newcastle (tiote and cabaye)

Buzbo, agree with some of you post (first bit) and quite a lot of teams do have players that would improve our team easily, but not the Necastle players you mention.

Spurs - Vertonghen, Bale and Dembele
Newcastle - Cabaye, Tiote, Be Arfa (better than Nani and Young)
Chelsea - Hazard, Ramires, Cole
Liverpool - Agger, Suarez, Allen
City - Most of their team
Arsenal - Vermaelen, Wilshere, Carzola (possibly)
Everton - Baines, Fellaini, Jagielka, (maybe, depends if Vidic recovers old form)

The major problem is that these players would all improve in the same positions, we are not 100% at the back with Rio ageing, Vidic still recovering and Jones/Smalling not playing enough to make accurate long term assessment. Evra is no longer the player he was at left back. I would rather Suarez than Rooney for playing reasons, although I hate everything else about Suarez. Left wing is a major concern for me, and our obvious problem in central midfield with a ball retainer and winner that can move.

Sorry but that post is just a case of thinking the the other kids have better toys than us.
There are players out there that would improve us but I'm thinking more of Yaya Toure or Bastian Sweinstieger.
Of the names put forward I only look at Dembele as one that might of got away and that's still only on potential.
Bale is one dimensional & inconsistent, Walker is no better than Rafael. As for the Newcastle pair where would Cisse fit in when you have Rooney & Van Persie. Although I like & rate Ben Arfa is he really that much better than Nani & Young? I mean this player has been around for a long time showcasing his skills at Lyon in champions league and a big club has never really taken a punt on him so does that not tell us something?
ajk

Ben Arfa had an appalling attitude which was considered too much of a risk by the big clubs.
