On the assumption that David Moyes will be allowed another summer transfer window to rebuild this underperforming rabble, who should we be shipping out? I suggest: Rafael, Ferdinand, Nani, Young, Carrick, Cleverley. Some of these players have been brilliant but now deserve a happy retirement or an easier job but some have never been up to scratch for OT.

Do any of the Eds know whether any clubs would be interested in signing any of this lot that are still young enough to play?

{Ed002's Note - Vidic will be gone. Rafael will find work without much problem on the continent. I am not so sure Carrick will be moving but Young and Cleverley could easily find mid table work in the EPL. Rio will retire to become a DJ and then a baddie in David Beckham's first film as the new James Bond.}

I think carrick should stay he has great experience but otherwise other than Mata i'm good with a clear out. Cleverly has stalled and that was before this season, Young is no way a Utd player, Nani plays well depending on which way the wind blows. We have to be ready for a few seasons of rebuilding because even if we do get lots of good new players we seem to forget they have to gel and buy into the Utd ethos.

Carrick and Cleverley should stay, they do nothing wrong and help make up the squad. Similarly Rafael, he was brilliant under SAF, as his performances have deteriorated what has changed? The manager. Has RVP become a worse player over night? No he just can't get on with Moyes and Moyes doesn't get them doing the right things. I suggest the problem is Moyes as some of these are class players that don't need replacing. I agree we need to cut lose the deadweight, but replacing our current classy players because they don't like Moyes isn't the way.

First team (squad) players I can see going are Vidic (of course), Ferdinand (retiring), Giggs (retiring), Young (mid table EPL), Nani (Italy), Hernandez, Macheda, Bebe, Anderson, Kagawa.

The rest will remain as squad players at least.

Well to me, this is news. Although it is not conclusive proof or by any means reliable, it sounds about right to me. Apparently today Moyes locked himself in his office with his senior staff members to talk about what they are doing etc. According to 'insider' reports the level of contempt for Moyes has never been shown towards anyone else at the club and regardless of the Olympiacos result they think that his days are numbered.

This has resonance to me - a defeat against Olympiacos and the likely annihilation that City will hand us will signal the end for him. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the players facilitated this.

Lets be honest, he has never won a thing, we are on 9 losses in the League, no chance of a domestic trophy and no where near good enough for a European trophy. He has lost the players, many of the fans and I imagine a significant majority of the board.

FRESH - Wonderfully written and insightful. Especially "it wouldn't surprise me if some of the players facilitated this".

David Moyes, is like putting a Band Aid on an amputation. it won't help or work

Agree0 Disagree0

The board have already given him £65 million, in fairness Mata is a brilliant buy but he is used incorrectly and Fellaini was over priced. What is he going to do even if he has £200 million if he doesn't have the current squads backing. He can't get rid of it all.

Agree1 Disagree1

Mata was a waste of a buy, no need to waste that type of money on someone and play him out of position.
Great player don't get me wrong, but is not what we needed

"stand by your new manager" how times have changed.
United aren't sacking club.
In Moyes we trust.

Agree1 Disagree1

But who are "we" in your question? I thought for years that Moyes was the right man to pick up after SAF but it is becoming clear that he is paralysed by indecision and caution. Leave aside the players bought, missed and sold, the guy seems to find it impossible to make changes when things are obviously going wrong. Leaving the wrong line-up on the field on Sunday until minute 75 was just not good management. Rodgers taught a lesson and he's not eh first to do so.

I feel for Moyes, he took the team as a lot of veteran greats were coming to the end of fine careers an I don't think the Board saw this type of outcome this season and the money focus will make them throw a very decent man overboard.

I appreciate Fergie's last message to us, i.e. 'stand by your new manager'. I for one have no doubt that Fergie has to share some if not large proportions of the blame for Moyes as he was his man. His man in spite of the fact that he has never won anything yet given the task of managing a team of serial winners. Bottom line is Moyes was a nepotistic appointment of someone without the requisite skillset, experience, charisma or gravitas to be manager of Manchester United FC.

Im sure he's a nice guy but he's just melted in the intense furnace that is managing at OT.

To me it just underscores HOW GOOD Fergie was to continually reinvent the team and get 110% out of everyone.

Fergie will go down from a footballing perspective as being our greatest manager and certainly one of the best, if not the best, of all time. No issue with that. But history will also record on a more personal level some of his judgements have been questionable. Rock Of Gibraltar, support of The Glazers, spats with Stam, Beckham, Keane etc and moreover the appointment of Moyes, i.e. someone he'd known a v long time, are all questionable. Whether we like it or not Moyes is damaging that fantastic legacy that Fergie created.

I appreciate Moyes has not been blessed with the backing of a sh!t hot transfer negotiator or unlimited funds. But there are more fundamental problems - can anyone tell me what our current footballing philosophy is for example?

It pains me to say it as I was really hopefully that if we'd beaten the scousers well we'd get a 'bounce' into the Olympiakos game. A qualifying win there seemingly against the odds and all of a sudden we could be ready to give City's title aspirations a bloody nose.

The exact opposite has happened though. The trapdoor is being prepared under Moyes feet now. I can't see us qualifying past the Greeks and certainly can't see us getting a win v City.

For me we had 3 massive home games in March that Moyes had to win to save his job.

He is already out. Or at least should be. Surely it is just a matter of time now before he's jettisoned and we look for a manager with, to paraphrase David Gill:
- a winning CV
- european experience

Its MoyesOut for me.

Sorry David but the sooner the better.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think anything less than a win against Olpmpiakos and City and he should be out

Agree1 Disagree0

My question to the people of believe in him and thought he was the 'right man for the job'. how did you come up with that thought and with what basis?
Apart from him being SAF friend and a fellow Scotsman. what other reason is there?

Ed what you say our chances of Draxler and or Reus are? Thanks.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not good Fresh.

There have been offers and enquiries for Draxler. Both Milan clubs, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea have enquired at one level or another about Draxler - each has met a "not for sale" barrier. I expect a deal might be brokered in the summer and Arsenal remains the most likely destination if he moves this year. Another option to be offered by Bayern Munich and AC Milan is a pre-payment and a one year loan back to Schalke. I think the chance of a move to Italy very unlikely.

Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal showed an interest in Marco Reus before his return to Dortmund last year. Recent tentative approaches made by Chelsea and Manchester City have resulted in a "not for sale" response regardless of their being a release clause in his contract. Manchester City are likely to push again as Dortmund are still looking to Dzeko as a possible replacement for Lewandowski and will look to ease a deal through by offering favourable terms on the transfer or a contribution to his salary. Interest from Manchester United is no more than speculation right now.}

Draxler would be a waste of a signing as where would he play him?

Agree0 Disagree0

The targets for left back and other positions are promising. Worried about our targets for the two wings. Is there any winger that looks likely? Di Maria is doing well now and Konoplyanka still looks Liverpool bound to me. We desperately need players there with pace.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Firstly, Manchester United are not going to replace the whole team this summer, it will take three windows to probably get it to where it needs to be.

Konoplyanka was subject to two significant offers this past summer - from Galatasaray and Zenit - both of which were been turned down. I expected to see PSG, Benfica and Arsenal make a bid in January, and possibly Fiorentina, Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester United, Schalke and Dortmund to look to the player, but it was only Liverpool that made any significant effort. Right now it is PSG, Bayer Leverkusen and Spurs who are showing interest and looking to negotiate a transfer. Liverpool seem to have dropped the interest they had.

PSG may well return with an other offer for Di Maria and it is possible that Arsenal and Manchester United might follow up on previous interest. The player would not object to a move to Italy should the opportunity arise and Juventus may give him that opportunity, perhaps as part of a package deal that could see Morata, Coentrau and Di Maria go in an exchange for Vidal or Pogba.}

Thanks ed, as I have often said I don't think wingers will be of the highest priority. I think central midfielder, left back and centre back are the priority. We then can look at a right back and up to two wingers.

Apparently there is confirmed interest in Radu, the left back from Lazio.
