True and if you had the choice of working in Milan Madrid Barcelona or Manchester if your honest Manchester probably wouldn't be top of your list especially if your not english. So the issue is if your gonna work in Manchester then aren't you gonna want to earn as much as possible? Before you could argue that you will be more likely to win things with us over City but thats not.the case anymore.

Why are you talking about a take over? since the glazers took over united have won the league 4 out of 6 seasons is that not good enought for you
Agree0
Disagree0
Not anymore now with City's money men the dynamics have changed now. So united need Fresh injection of money so that in the long run City won't run away with things!
Agree0
Disagree0
Lol glazers are injecting cash thats the point didnt we spend 50million last summer? we will spend 50million plus sales again this summer i have no doubt we have to buy to improve to then compete domestically and in europe to get bigger money rewards
Agree0
Disagree0
Why do people think that the Glazers give us money to spend? The Glazers allow us to spend so much of what the CLUB makes in profit every year. The Glazers don't give us anything other than sponsership deals with American companies.

united are close to signing psv midfielder kevin strootman you heard it here first guys
Believable12
Unbelievable14
I really hope so he is class. he's got a good chance of being one of the stars of the euro's so i'd like a deal done before he goes. He would give us a great base to build on from midfield while also being very creative and setting the pace of the game.
Shappy
Agree0

I'm with you Shappy he would be a top signing perfect for the centre of midfield.
Simmo
Agree0

I would much rather him to Modric! Younger, nowhere near as costly, more complete player (has a better defensive game yet still able to control play and distribute ball)...if the kagawa rumours are true, he could play with carrick/clevs/scholes behind kagawa, with rooney up top on his own with 2 of nani/valencia/young/(new signing), out wide
Pistol

Strootman has been scouted several times in the last few months, nothing more as of yet. I don't expect us to follow through with our interest. Good player not United class, sorry

Manchester United are bracing themselves for a new supporter backlash after their latest accounts revealed they lost £71million to financial obligations imposed by owners the Glazers over the last nine months.
so 71 mill in just 9 months and people try to say the debt doesnt affect the club, how can that be possibly true
jred
Believable20
Unbelievable5
Lol 71 mil cus we failed in champions league and domesticly you fool thats why they have to reinvest to get us good enough to make money
Agree0
Disagree0
Why are so many people so thick about the debt? WE finished on 89 points and lost on goal difference!!
We have punched a few players and wil find the money for a few more...
Sensible business owner or lottery winner? It os okay to take a mortgage out on a
asset...
Some people do not get the difference....
Agree0
Disagree0
Technically we are not 71 million down this year we are 5.8%. The 71 million was spent buying back bonds etc but the income/profit only totalled around 60 million. we were 5 million down on last year all because of the Champions league performances.
Agree0
Disagree0
Unnamed
You fool the 71 mill was spent on the bonds and interests , that's 71 mill taken out of the club never to be seen again
Please explain how cup exits has anything to do with 71 mill being spent on debt
The reason our profit has been affected will be down to cup exits, but that's not the issue , the issue is another 71 mill has been taken out the club
Jred
Agree0
Disagree0
Why is everyone so worried about the 71 mil lost yes some was used to pay off interest on the loan, but the majority was paid to buy the bonds back ready for the floatation on the market towards the end of the year which will gaurantee more revenue
Agree0
Disagree0
It's an absolute joke, these w*****s are ruining this club. It's such a shame they bought us to begin with. Just look at our team it doesn't take a genius to see big money needs to be spent on our squad, money we simply don't have because of the glazers. If we didn't have the glazers as owners we would not be up to our eyeballs in debt (which should be the glazers debt as they purchased the club) and would be able to go after any player on the planet.

i hope we don't sign hazard for 45m!
IMO we could get 3 or 4 class players for that much.
kagawa 7M
rodriguez 20M
Lewandowski 10M
Izzaguirre 5M
JK92
Believable6
Unbelievable15
JK92
Rodriguez would cost upwards of 25million
Lewandowski would cost around 15-18million
imo we could sign hazard and the rest apart from rodriguez this summer as we will sell
nani 25-30million
berbatov 8million
anderson 12million
park 2million
macheda 3million
which would free up 55million or there abouts and then an extra 20million would be needed which i believe is ok

You're wishing on a star if you think Lewandowski will go for 10m lol.

just like to say well played to the united reserves beating city 2-0 at the eithad in the manchester senior cup final, united fans outnumbered city fans haha then invaded the pitch and lastly ryan tunnicliffe looked class
Believable13
Unbelievable0
Tunnicliffe as I said a few weeks ago, needs to calm down or waste his talent. If you watched tonight's game the tackle he was booked for was a red in most games and certainly in the premier league.
Keane has a decent football brain but no pace. Good win tonight , a little disappointing in the second half where we were totally on the back foot.
Petruccis flick for the first goal was class but I think he now needs to take a step up and control games
Red Man
Agree0

Tunners will become a class first teamer for us. I'd be gutted if Pogba left us but if i'm honest i feel that he is destined to leave us some day even if he becomes a first team player with us, i just can't see him still being here when he's 25, he'd be off to Spain before then. Where as we have a great chance of having Tunners here for his whole career or at least the best part of it. And he looks class and has such a great attitude.

"Can't stand this up yet but had a tip off that Eden Hazard will join Man Utd tomorrow for £45m. Must warn you, this could be a hoax. #mufc"

I work in the Warwick suite at Old Trafford and all the talk of Shinji Kagawa meeting Sir Alex is very true. The player is happy to join United but as per usual Man Utd are stalling on the deal...
This is due to the fact that the manager, Gill, and The Glazer family are working like mad to sign Eden Hazard as quickly as possible. The player has said he would love to play for United.
The signing will be made in an attempt to lift the fans and to prove to the world of football that United can fight Manchester City for major players..

What is with all this sudden influx of Eden Hazard signing for Man United now rumours when everyone was pretty confident he was going chelsea or man city.....
Im not to fussed if we get him tbh i would prefer james rodriguez naturally left footed and very direct and imo would be at man united for 10 years where hazard would be 4 years then off to spain
Believable8
Unbelievable0
At the start of the season we were using Young and Nani. In my opinion we are trying to move away from direct wingers and towards playmaking forwards with variable forward lines. Which makes me feel like we'll be moving away from Valencia, not bringing in more like him.
Percy
Agree0
Disagree0
Well i like how direct valencia is it is more effective imo and i believe we will sell nani.... i see where your coming from with the juan mata david silva type wingers that roam but having two direct wingers that run at fullbacks imo would be deadly plus he is left footed which is a comodity and he is very explosive but on the other hand having a hazard and a valencia together could work great
George
Agree0
Disagree0
I think it will be Nani and Hazard. Direct wingers often become ineffective.
Percy

Couldnt agree more, the last thing we need is another right footed left winger!anyway Madrid is his dream club so why nurture another player for them! Rodriguez will end up the better player anyway!

imo we could buy

Cissokho
Lewandowski
Kagawa
That is all we need imo with the sale of nani and a few others we wouldnt lose any money so maybe we could buy more?

The situation with Kagawa, however, is different. Dortmund confirmed recently that he will leave the club this summer, although at the moment his destination is unknown. Ferguson sees the Japanese player as the ideal back-up for Paul Scholes, who renewed his contract for another year yesterday. One player who will be playing for the Red Devils next year is the Belgian, Eden Hazard, after announcing that he will sign for the club last night. {Ed004's Note - Link to this announcement because of this were the case I can garuntee it would have been all over the site today}

Read all the posts with interest. 1st, we will spend somewhere between £48m and £91.5m this window subject to the right players agreeing to come. We are actively looking to ship out upto six players, The upper figure depends on gaining £48m minimum back in fees, with Nani going for a minimum of £23m with the remaining balance available due to lower wages of incoming players where a net yearly saving of between 37.3 and £9.7m is projected.
Utd are prepared to go no more than £65k per week on Hazard with add ons for goals scored above 10 goals and bonuses for winning trophies so it comes down to whether he is truly committed to regular first team football and if his agent is truly interested in his career or short term commission.
Also, a post first season review with retrospective bonus payment to make up the difference between first and second years wages is on offer to counteract this threat.
Gaitan and Kagawa are committed though Gaitan will have to wait to see if we get Hazard first, we wont take both. Hubbels is a higher priority than Lebanowski,as we are also trying to drive down Martinez's price to under £30m and will offer £22m to test the market although we may make a further move in January.
The main reason for keeping these figures in check are simple. We will float on the Singapore stock market in a few months, raising enough money to completely wipe out the debt (after we pay down a further £70m this season) leaving net debt around £350m. We will then splash out on development plans for old trafford to take the stadium to 96,000 and leave a transfer kitty and wage structure enabling us to compete on world level to compete head to head with City given our revenues from the new TV deal, chirt sponsor and corporate boxes will increase our revenues by a further £70m per year by 2013, and give us a profit of over £180m per annum. That, for those who understand the financial fair play rules, means we will be able to outspend our so called super rich neighbours by a ratio of 5 to 1, as despite their stadium sposnorships and daft shirt deals, still give them nowehere near the profit required to sustain the current investment in wages alone, never mind transfer fees. City wage bill this season? £168m, city turnover? £151m, net loss of £17m. They will have to increase turnover beyond those figures dramatically, or cut players and wages, whilst we remain one of the most successful sports businesses in the world.
If you doubt the difference between financ and football rules, just look at chelsea, who dont mind posting big losses on manager compensation, because on the books hey get leeway to buy the odd big player or two every now and again. Result? Chaos, short term gain, burnout of the key team assets (Lampard, Terry, Essien, Drogba) and whilst you can afford to replace them, you cant spend the money because it will breach FFP rules.
Result? You have some fond memories of the odd trophy and struggle to reach a European place in the league.
Ferguson is cute as we all know, why do you think he claimed we will compete for a decade with City? In the very near future they will succeed, but its a fast burning candle and Fergie knows that by 2014, City will be in sharpo decline, just as Chelsea have for the last couple of years! Watch this space.
C'mon you Reds!

It was a good read! Although wilst I agree with you about city not being able to keep their wage structure balanced for the short term, it would seem they also have some plans of their own to generate profit to counteract this. They are developing a new shopping complex area near the ethiad stadium are they not?
All I can say it with some of the players they have bought and the cash they have been throughing around they should have beaten u by at least 12-15 points! But we were level, had LOADS more injuries and lost our best defender (Vidic)
That being said I can't wait for it all to start again!!

One thing Mate. Ashley F**king Young got offered 130k a week, so I'm fairly certain if we offered any money at all it would have at least been in that range. Get your facts right.
2Taze
Agree0

Ashley Young was offered nothing like that kind of money, thats the figure the Sun picked out of the air in order to sell a few papers. Our wage structure wouldn't allow such an offer to be made, especially to a player who wanted to join us and who we had no competition for his signature. I'd bet my house that Young is on no more than 80k a week basic at most, with maybe some add ons for stuff like goals scored or apperances and stuff like that. He was on just under 65k at Villa and the Sun did a he doubled his money thing which just isn't true.
As for offering an untested 21yo no more than 65k a week that doesn't sound too far out if you ask me. Just because his name is Hazard and he's the media's darling atm doesn't mean that he'll be able to hack the prem or fit in with United, he could flop. I doubt he would as he does look a talent but there's no gareentee he wouldn't. Offering him 65k with a review at the end of his first season sounds about right. Yes he'll get more at City but thats football, we can't compete with a team that have a bottomless pit, we need to stick to our wage structure and our principals. If we offered Hazard 100k City would offer 120k, if we offered 150k City would offer 175k, if we offered 200k then City would offer 250k. So we can't compete with City but how much would he get offered by every other top club such as Real Madrid Barcalona Bayern Munich and the Milan clubs? they'd probably offer around the same as us in all honesty. So why screw our wage structure just for City when it won't make any differance.
If we offer the same as he'd get anywhere else all City can do is beat it and lets be honest if the most he'd get from anyone else is say 70k a week then City aren't gonna offer him 170k a week probably more like 100k at most as they also have to start looking long term to the FFP, then it comes down to whether he fills the extra 30-40k a week is worth it to have his career stagnate while he warms a bench or whether he wants to become one of the best players in the world.

Apparently we've spoken to RVP reps and the talks went well, he also spoke to City but they apparently broke down. Now, think about this, he's currently the best forward in the world..so the chances are every ambitious club in the world has spoken to him, Russia, Italy, France, Holland, England, Spain, Germany, USA, Dubai, etc. Clubs from all of these countries would have likely contacted both Arsenal and his agent to discuss availability.
Secondly, as good as I think he is, it's been his first Injury free year, what if he goes back to his usual ways, we pay £25 Million for him and see him 5 times in a year? what a waste that would be.
Personally I would much prefer us to spend £15 Million on a new forward and then use the remaining £10 Million to invest in another box2box midfielder (regardless of Pogba) or possibly someone for the defense, preferably LB.
We all know he's talented but with the clubs looking at RVP and the potential risks of Injury is he worth it?

The Moon
I agree there is a risk with RVP but I wonder if he is a player who just happens to of matured physically later then some players in terms of avoiding silly little injuries which has kept him out in the past?
I find it strange that a player who has suffered from consistent minor injuries in his career has suddenly gone a played a full season with nothing?
Now is that luck? Is it the medical treatments about now? Is it just he has over come them? Time will tell i suppose but I'd imagine if we were to have the opportunity to get him, the medical he would undertake at the club would highlight any potential faults!
As for teams around the world being in for him? Well you'd expect it wouldn't you if he become available but it seems the majority of Dutch players get settled somewhere and tend to stay for a duration so maybe he's happy in England, family settled and he will prefer to stay here but just after a new challenge with new opportunities?
Who knows, would be delighted if we get him but likewise, if we don't and invest the money he'd cost wisely in other areas, I think we're gonna have a strong starting 11 next season and a fantastic squad to choose from.

The important thing to realise that in French/Spanish/etc, when someone means 'Manchester United', they simply say 'le Manchester' or whatever the language is.
Hazard recetly confirmed he was going to play in Manchester next year. This 'would' suggest United, based on how french/spanish refer to Man Utd (confusing I know), however I beleive he meant what he said, he will play for city OR united, contrary to how they refer to United on the continent.
Therefore, I beleive, having read the article in Marca, I beleive the Spanish newspaper have misinterpreted what Hazard said, going with their colloquial translation rather than what Hazard literally meant, he will play in the city of Manchester.
Confusing, but explains why Marca say he has confirmed he will sign for us, when he hasn't.

I think we could be looking at a very interesting summer this year.
Kagawa, both himself and his agent, have confirmed talks with United and Sir Alex.
Hazard blowing his own whistle, saying he will definately be playing in Manchester next season.
And now with Owen gone, Berbatov and Macheda likely to leave it is looking ever more likely we will be bringing in a Striker too.
Plus Fabio likely to go on loan, we will have only Evra. Fryers and Blackett are promising but Fryers needs to sign up and Blackett i dont think is ready for the first team picture just yet. We will need a full-back also i feel.
I still think we need a Midfielder who has strength and can tackle though, especially if we were to play Kagawa in a central role rather than in the hole.
I'm expecting a busy transfer period, for us definately.
With the press and most of the talk on here mainly directed at the possible deals for Kagawa, Hazard, Lewandoski and RVP:
I want to know who do you guys think will be brought in for full-back?
I cant see it being Nathaniel Clyne, although he can play both R+L, as we have enough young talented fullbacks coming through at the minute.
I think Cissokho could well be looked at, as could Debuchy(?) with perhaps Rafael covering at LB sometimes?
Who knows, anybody heard anything on this front? Except that Clyne is supposedly a "done deal" which i'm not buying into.

Kagawa would fill the roll of 2nd striker very well, he plays in a far tougher league then Hazard. I'd rather we spent money on our midfield. 35 million could by us Eriksson and M'Vila and for the same wages, between them as Hazard on his own. I just cant see us paying 25- 30 million transfer and 50 million wages over a 4 year contract for a guy who will be 29 next season.75 - 80 million for the excellent, but aging and injury prone player is lop sided. We could spend the money in a far more balanced and more effective way.

When I saw this rumour in work today I couldnt stop laughing to myself tbh. I'd be happy to see as many ego's go to City as poss, it's one way I can see them tripping up if they're not careful. Imagine if they got him and kept Aguero, Tevez & Ballsdeepotelli - the arguments there would be in training or about who get's to start games, or who takes penalties, or who's the richest etc. lol
The only shame is I doubt the rumour is true : (

afternoon gents.just wondering how much of a transfer kitty do you think we will have this year?do you think 40m + sales is possible? {Ed004's Note - Yes I think it possible. We spent 50 million last year and also 54 million the year we didn't win anything}

Hi all, just a quick post regarding transfers this season.
Firstly, we are not going to rebuild a new team this season. We have a great core of youth and middle aged players, such as Jones, De Gea, Nani, Rooney, Smalling, Cleverley and Co. However, we will bring in 3 new players to try and push City of their perch next year - although as some people seem to be forgetting we were mighty close this year!
We will sign a CM, a striker (due to loss of Owen and Berbatov) and possibly one other showcase signing.
These will be:- Kagawa (c.10m), Higuain (22.5m) and - extremely unlikely but still a chance - Hazard (34m).
Team for next season:
De Gea
Rafael Jones Vidic Evra
Carrick
Young Kagawa Hazard (if not,Nani)
Rooney Higuain
Really confident with this team - you heard it hear first! All signings to be confirmed in July after the euros, apart from Hazard - who will be a contracted affair over the whole summer.

I think all fans and everyone associated with man utd know that we overacheived this season as regards to how close the league was. we need to sign 4-5 players and get rid of the deadwood ie berba, macheda, park etc. United need 1 CM, 1 creative attacking midfielder, a striker, and a full back on each flank and also a left footed replacement for giggs (Gaitan most likely, though id prefer Bale)
Ste Dee
Agree0
Disagree0
Ste Dee, exactly my thoughts, although I'm not sure Gaitan is the one.
Anyone got any other realistic suggestions for a left footed wide player?
Andrew B {Ed004's Note - James Rodriguez}
Agree0

I think people should stop obsessing with left footed wide men.
Does having one of those somehow guarentee us success?
Bob
Agree0

No it doesn't guarentee success "Bob" however when your only recognisable and definant left footed starter is evra, something is wrong.
aaallj5

Bob
Having at least a couple of left footed players helps give the team balance. Not just on the wings, it can also help if your left sided central defender is left footed.
It's not totally necessary to have left footers on the wings as you can achieve balance on the left with a very attacking left footed full back combined with a right footed left sided midfielder who likes to come inside.
However, Utd have a tradition of attacking down the wings and crossing the ball from the byeline ala Giggs in his prime and Valencia at present on the right.
A left footed swift winger would give us an alternative approach to Ashley Young's right footed inswingers.
Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know but you did ask. Also, I'm sure someone else will see it in a totally different way to me anyhow!
Andrew B

Am I the only United fan that thinks Nani is our best attacking player bar Rooney. Valencia is fast, strong and direct, but painfully one footed. This makes him predictable, he either beats his man on the outside or passes a simple ball inside. Still a very good player though. Young is weak and not a great buy. Nani, though annoying and inconsistent at times, scores as many with his left foot as his right, he's much stronger physically, then he was 3 seasons ago and for the last three seasons has excellent stats. When on fire he can destroy any defence
Mik

Jones instead of ferdinand snm.

Those 3 signings would be great obviously but your starting XI is way too open in CM - our defence would be under constant pressure with Carrick as our only defensive shield in front of them

Could be worth an 18-20mil bid?

This post probably wont be very popular with many reds fans, but i personally DO NOT want Kagawa to be our next number 7!
I'm not saying i do not want Kagawa as a Manchester United player,I'm just saying I personally would like to see our number 7 be a player with flair, skill, agility and the number 7 factor which in my eye is a player with the ability to change a game single handedly!
The number 7 was wasted on Owen IMO,
I can only see the upside of Kagawa as our number 7 would be shirt sales.

Evans... Jonny Evans? The fella who has been one of our outstanding performers this season? The fella who was right up there in the player of the year voting? Really? Jonny Evans?
Also, Michael Carrick? You want to sell the only central midfielder we can realistically rely on next season? Yes our midfield needs to be improved but we aren't going to do that by selling one of the key performers. Improve upon him and have him in more of a squad role, I can see the argument for that - but selling him is monumentally stupid. People who call for his head either don't actually watch him play of have the preconceptions about him and will never see his actual value
Are you actually insane or just on a wind up?

to add to what i said on diame last night. Firstly its being reported in the mail after the rumour went around last night. I know the mail isn't the most reliable but it does add up. We do need a player like him and on a bosman makes sense, although wouldn't be my first choice. Apparently he has an existing heart condition and wigan keep a defibulater on the touchline during games just in case. This is why we've pulled out. Thats whats being reported just passing on the news. If correct does show we are looking at that type of player. If wrong well he's now being linked to liverpool which is odd without a manager. Mort

I see although there is nothing concrete in it recent rumours of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier being linekd with us and other premiership clubs (probably as he has stated he wants to play in the premiership and also professed a liking to us which is good to hear). Reading a profile on him he can play anywhere in the back four or as a defensive midfielder though has been playing centre back most recently. Anybody seen much of him as watched a couple of youtube vids (yes I know its only youtube), but from what I did see he did seem a big strong and very composed player on the ball with good pace. Anybody much knowledge on him?

I can only say I've seen his YouTube. Seems to like going forward from the back ala Jones & Smalling as he plays mainly RCB. Even Evans prefers the right CB position. Is he any better than Smalling, Jones RB or Jones DM? Looks good though and 10yrs younger than bad back Rio.
