I see we are now linked with Pedro Obiang of sampdoria, I've seen him talked about in great detail on her ( by The Moon I think ) does anyone know if this link has any truth? {Ed002's Note - Sampdoria’s Pedro Obiang has attracted some interest from Chelsea, Spurs, Napoli, Palermo and Manchester City although at this time no firm offers have been put on the table by any of these clubs whilst Inter has negotiated what appears to be an option for a transfer next summer. I am not aware of any interest from Manchester United and would at this time consider a move unlikely.}

002 its good to see you back mate. And if I may be so bold as to ask you why januzij (spelling) is being messed about this IMO is a no brainer to give him an improved contract an tie him down. But why are we dragging things out or are we not getting the full story. Thanks an it is good to have you back your not alone in wanting to take a stand against keyboard worriers and degenerates

CAIN {Ed002's Note - There will be considerations more than the money (which folks are obsessing about) which are in his mind. This is why one option he has is to run his contract down to the end of the year and look at the options that there are available in France and Italy. I expect it will be resolved with a new contract and an initial loan.}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Thanks ed but I for one feel more playing time with us is what he needs for the best possible development. I hope this issue is resolved soon as I predict him to be one of the very best out there and an ever better prospect than pogba and feel he could reach similar success as some of our better no 7s. He does remind me of the first time I seen ronaldo skinny skillful and confident just not world class as of yet. But as we seen wit Ronnie ease him in an watch him shine and grow to become a machine. And just for the record I really don't want him to go on loan I would much rather he be a squad member and show what he is worth when called upon. thanks again

CAIN

He's already better than most of our wingers. I don't see a reason not to play him in the first team now.

Ed do you think we may go back in for coentrao and Herrera in January or switch to new targets such as luke shaw? {Ed002's Note - Where we are right now, I don't see any of those happening in January.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Coentrao on loan surely isn't out of the question? I wish Moyes would drop the Baines pursuit, Baines is not doing enough to push a move through so Everton will not budge on price. Personally I would push for Barkley in the summer. But he will be expensive.

Agree1 Disagree1

Totally agree Syd, I'd love Barkley here. I also have high hopes of Ravel sorting himself out and coming back. A midfield three of Carrick, Morrison and Barkley would have a great balance and we'd tear teams apart within a few years. Shaw is also top of my list to replace Evra but we know he's a big Chelsea fan so I think he'll end up there when he leaves Southampton.

Agree2 Disagree4

Sydney

DM has already said he is done with his pursuit of baines and we will not be making any future bids. If you are Baines and given his age, you must be thinking I will finish my career without winning anything although nothing wrong with that as many players have opted to stay with one club till the end of their career knowing they will not win any major trophies.

Have you any idea as to any potential moves that could happen Ed02? Obviously there is plenty of time between now and then so things can change, but if you can't see them 3 happening, can you ankling as to who we could push for? {Ed002's Note - I expect a deal will be sought along the lines of Zaha to find a player or two to come in during the summer. Without anyone leaving it is not easy to see how any changes will be made. It will also depend on how players such as Fabio and Anderson perform.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Shahram, despite what DM has said, it is wildly reported that he will go for Baines again in January. The same sources who said he will go for Baines and Fellaini this summer.

Prodigal, I don't see Ravel back at MU. I also believe Powell will be a certainty in midfield in the future. Also Fellaini is 25. We didn't pay around £30m for a player to sit on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alt, it's difficult to keep buying players with none vacating the club. I said that in the summer. We struggled to offload players during the summer. I think there will be one loan to buy or like Ed said where we buy a player and loan them back til the summer. Someone like Hughes or Williams maybe?

What do people make of Swansea's Ben Davies?

{Ed002's Note - I was thinking of an Argentine footballer Syd.}

Agree0 Disagree0

You are such a tease Ed ;)

Can you give us another clue?

Iturbe? What position does he play in primarily? {Ed002's Note - LIke Garay?}

SYD

I can't see what will drastically change in 3 months as it is evident Everton do not want to sell and if they do it will take a silly number and don't believe we are willing to pay past a certain amount.

The Baines stuff was even making the rounds last year before Moyes came on board and it does not take a rocket scientist to write up a story that we would be in for him this past summer when Moyes joined.

We generally move on after a failed deal and if we do anything, which I doubt, it will be someone who at the moment s not being talked about. Ed02 seems to be hinting at someone but your guess is as good as mine.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why don't you see him back Syd? I hope he does a Fabregas and comes back to the club he grew up with. Obviously it still depends on whether he truly and consistently sorts himself out.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ah Rio's replacement. Thanks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed02, could Fabio and/or Anderson be used in a deal for Garay? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I would doubt it. Would you take Bendtner and Park Chu-Young as part of the deal for Rooney?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Shahram, the Baines stuff was making the rounds because the club wanted to sign him. They still do. Moyes has confirmed they tried doing a deal for Baines right up until the final day, hence the reason the Fellaini talks dragged on so long. I am not talking about newspapers in general, I am talking about particular journalists who have been right about Fellaini and Baines all along. They believe MU will go back for Baines in January.

So we know MU tried bringing in a LB right up until the window shut. So a LB is still wanted clearly. Could we see Baines and Garay signed in January with them both joining in the summer when Rio & Evra are out of contract? I agree that generally business rarely gets done in January, but after the summer's fiasco and Ed Woodward wanting to help his reputation, the club may want to get the summer's transfers done early.

Perhaps then we will look to sign that second midfielder in the summer and can put all our efforts into doing that then without distractions? Just a thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on as usual Sydney! - watched the lad Davies for Swansea v the scousers this week and he's a real prospect. You're right about Morrison too: will never be back at OT nor should he be.

Agree0 Disagree0

LORD, he is someone we should keep an eye on.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Prodigal7,
Mate in a few years time Michael Carrick will be 34+. Do you really think he will be that influential at that age to form a partnership with Barkley?

Ed02, although I see your point, didn't Benfica have recent interest in both of they? They wanted Fabio on loan a while back or was that just agent talk? {Ed002's Note - It was before he went to QPR that Benfica showed an interest in Fabio. Benfica now have Guilherme Siqueira for this year and will look to take him on a permanent deal (if they can get a deal or a trade to reduce the €7M fee). Real Madrid might still have an interest in Siqueira as a replacement for Coentrao. Anderson will be available in January and, assuming he is not over priced, will have several option to choose from - but I doubt Benfica will be one.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed. I do get the impression MU slightly overvalue players. But conveniently not the one's we want to buy :)

I see Anderson and Fabio possibly leaving, perhaps Fabio on loan if they cannot find a buyer. But now Nani has signed do you think MU may look at selling Young instead? The diving thing hasn't done him no favours and we do have Nani, Valencia, Zaha, Januzaj, Welbeck & Kagawa.

Also one more question, what do you make of a possible Kagawa/Gundogan swap next summer? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I could see Young being available but am not aware of interest right now. I don't see any Gundogan exchange.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I know Gundogan has a lot of interest from pretty much everywhere. He is a good player. I think Rooney staying (if he stays) will see Kagawa moving on eventually. Shame because he is a good player too. {Ed002's Note - They will all move on eventually Syd. It looked like Gundogan would be sold this past summer and there was interest from Rubin Kazan and Manchester City. However, with Goetze going a season before expected, Dortmund were always going to look to keep the player and are looking to negotiate a new deal with him. It had been suggested that Manchester United might try and strike a deal for the player this summer that is not activated until next summer - that always seemed unlikely to me. Enquiries have been made by Chelsea and Real Madrid. Both Barcelona and Arsenal spoke with his agent but made no approach to Dortmund.}

Agree0 Disagree0

PR, I see Carrick as going on very well until his late 30s. Out of all players in the league Carrick is the one that should age the best.

Hi EDS - Any news on Januzaj contract talks?

Just read in the daily fail that City have been put on high alert as contract talks have stalled and have been ongoing since April

Must keep hold of this kid, I don't wanna be watching him flourish at another team like Pogba has, all for a few quid and some first team assurances, which based on the Palace game he deserves.

Thanks a lot in advance {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new I am aware of in terms of a contract for Januzaj. There remains, as expected, interest in him from a couple of other sides. I don't see that Manchester City could offer him what he wants and I don't see any direct comparison to the situation with Paul Pogba. Interest from MCFC, France and Italy would need to wait for his contract to run down before making any real move for him - so there is plenty of time to figure it out. In the short-term perhaps a loan would placate him.}

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Thank you - much appreciated

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO it's playing time and not money that is the issue here. He certainly wouldn't get playing time at City.

I hope he can remain patient and accept that next season is probably when he will break into the MU side.

He needs to learn to walk before he can run. Undoubtedly he has the talent, but he lacks the experience and physique.

A loan will serve him well, but we will need to agree a deal first.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't surprise me if he breaks into the team before the end of the season. In preseason, he was easily our most consistent and best performing winger.

Not so sure physique will be a problem, he's already started bulking up and uses his body very well. Compare him to the likes of David Silva and there isn't a great deal of difference, if any.

Let's be honest, none of our wingers have been on fire for a long time, we get the occasional good performance but overall, we have lacked consistency on the wing for a while now. I'm sure Moyes will give him more chances to shine off the bench and eventually, he'll start and that's when he needs to show that he deserves his place, which I'm sure he will.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Sydney! Do you not think that it would be better for Januzaj to stay with the first team until the new year?

I think that a few appearences similar to like against Crystal Palace alongside starts in lesser/cup games might make him sign.

Then if he's not already displaced any first teamers like Young, then go on loan - as long as the new contract has been signed?

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd I know what your saying about his physique and it needs to improve but maybe his balance, trickery and movement is enough to outweigh how lightweight he is, I appreciate some teams are going to bully him but I think he's ready enough to be playing a regular sub role and maybe starting 10-15 games, he seems intelligent enough on the ball to be able to cope.

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Wigan where he can team up with Powell perhaps? Our future together and not too far for travelling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes said he was tempted to start him on sat so that shows how highly thought of he is and should play a lot this season. Can't see a reason not to sign if that's the case

Agree0 Disagree0

Physique doesn't matter as much these days as fouls are given much more easy than a few years ago. Look at Neymar for example he's very skinny and weighs 8 stone, I think Adnan is taller too. I know it's a different league and the Prem is more physical but like some women claim size doesn't matter ;) Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Oz, the point is he's still growing. I agree that being a winger you do not necessarily need to be big like central midfield or CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree Syd. I think he's ready now and if this wage structure policy stops us from giving him the money which he deserves I'll be fuming. Some players are ready earlier than others, offerring Rooney 15k a week at 18 years old in this day and age would be laughed at because everyone knows he should be on more than that. Januzaj is the same, he's been one of the best players on the pitch every time he's played and he deserves the same pay that other squad players receive.

Agree0 Disagree0

Prodigal7, he deserves nothing. If he wants a salary that is more than the likes of Rafael, Evans, Cleverley, Welbeck etc are getting then he needs to earn it. He will be offered what everyone gets offered at his stage of his career. I wouldn't give him anything over £20k a week as it would send out the wrong message to the other youngsters and some of the current senior squad will be asking why they never got that amount. You cannot compare Rooney to Januzaj. We are certainly not going to pay him £50k a week like Rooney was getting. If we wouldn't go above £30k a week for Pogba, we wouldn't for Januzaj.

Agree0 Disagree1

Well that's your opinion Syd, but it's obvious to most that this kid is a worldy talent. What more can Januzaj do to show he deserves first team squad status. He's already a better player than Cleverley, he was better the moment he stepped out for his debut and has been one of the best players on the pitch every time he plays. He makes the over 100k a week Ashley Young look terrible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly Young isn't on over £100k a week. That is pretty obvious. Secondly if Januzaj demanded £100k a week would you give it to him? Where do you draw the line? Like I said I do not believe it's about money, I think it's about playing time assurances. He is in no position to be making such demands. He is a quality talent, but you cannot let an 18 year old decide who picks the team. That's David Moyes' job as manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Young is on £100K a week, I think it is closer to £60/70K.

I think Moyes is ready to give Januzaj a chance. He's saying the right things about the lad and we've seen him take part in 2 of the 5 matches played this season if you include the community shield.

I suppose the rest is now up to Januzaj to grab the opportunity and make it so that Moyes cannot leave him out of the side!

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't give him 100k a week no. I'd give him up to 30k a week though. Some sources say young is on 70k a week some say 120k a week, either way it's too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

Prodigal, so what if Adnan wants £35k a week or he is signing for Juventus?

Agree0 Disagree0

Question: if Januzaj was available from Barca on some much lower transfer fee than an exorbitant buyout clause (think Alacantra example) how much would we bid and moreover how much a week would we offer him to join us? We wouldn't be quibbling about 15 to 20k would we?

I appreciate the importance of a defined wage structure but as in all businesses sometimes you just need a bit of JFDI and bend the rules to secure key personnel.

History is already proving, in one of Fergies rare errors of judgement, that Pogba was a) ready for a 1st team place and b) worth the 30k he was demanding.

Lets hope Januzaj United career is not finished before it starts with our typical bloody penny pinching!

And if its playing time guarantees he wants this kid IS the future. He should be getting in the team NOW certainly as a left winger in the 4411 / 442 Moyes looks to prefer ahead of:
Young - not good enough
Kagawa - out of position on the left
Welbeck - not as effective as a winger
Nani - don't even start me on our 'new contract' boy.

Lets not have another Pogba. Get him signed up Moysie.

The sky's the limit on our budget afterall!

Kinda.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd. I know what you're trying to say. We have a wage structure dependent on squad status and Januzaj is just breaking through. We can't break our wage structure no matter how talented a player is because it sets a precedent to other young players coming through. My point is we can justify giving Januzaj the 30, 35, 40 or so per week by playing him the same amount of games as the squad players on that kind of money. Cleverleys wage is that of a squad player despite the fact he's been a first team regular due to there being no competition for him. Januzaj is gaining squad status and he should be offered a contract on par with Cleverley. Welbeck is on over 70k a week after signing his contract before the start of last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Prodigal, I agree Adnan is a special player and we should do what we can to tie him down. Like I said I do not think money is the issue here, it's playing time and I think he doesn't want to go out on loan, but MU want him to. That being said you have to have guidelines and a wage structure in place or you will get the Zeki Fryers demanding what they want or they will join Spurs.

I would offer him £20k a week and a chance to double it after a season.
