Ok with Berba going and owen gone aswell as Keane out for most of the season, that leaves united one shy of fergie's (wanted) four. What do you guys think about bidding 7 million for Demba Ba?
Would provide real finishing quality upfront, aswell as hold up play and he is unselfish when it comes to his play. Proven in the Prem and would be a bargain (I think) at that price.
Cost the same as bebe without the disappointment. What you guys think?

Im not sure why people dont realise that Kagawa plays essentially as a No. 10 as a second striker, just like Wayne Rooney plays. Rooney can also play up top as the main striker (and Kagawa can play off of him). Thus our 4 main strikers will be Welbeck, Hernandez, Rooney and Kagawa. Also Giggsy will probably be used also as a No. 10 this year as he doesnt have the pace for the wing and his stamina in the middle of the park was waning towards the end of last season.

Demba Ba hasn't scored since January has he?

Ba has been used mostly as a wide player since the arrival of cisse to Newcastle. For 7 million id take that if i was fergie!

Modric showed his class again tonight, playing for a team who had very little possession against the best team around. Had Razatek (spelling) only planted his header in the net, Modric would even have got an assist which would surely please those who berate his goal/assist stats!
For me players like Xavi, Scwheinsteiger and Iniesta are some of the best midfielders in the world...but Modric comes near the top of the group just below them IMHO
I hope we sign him as he will add real class to our team from day one. We have been crying out for that in CM for years

Agree Dav, but fear the magic word Real might have turned his head. Our best weapon in such transfers is SAF, but unfortunately:
Spanish weather+ Spanish league+ Mourinio. > Manchester Weather + EPL + SAF.

James ducker of the times who is always on.mutv has said on twit that he has it from high up at old trafford that we have no interest in modric,i believe him more than anyone on here,so sadly i dint even think we have bid for him.

Although I was thinking that modric was not good enough for united, after watching him today you can tell he has that extra bit of intelligence over our current cm's (apart from maybe scholes but he's coming to the end of course) so at the right price I think he would be a very nice addition to our squad :)
Agree0

"I hope we sign him as he will add real class to our team from day one. We have been crying out for that in CM for years"
yeah, because Paul Scholes isn't class is he?
Michael Carrick has more class than Modric and is a damn site more effective.
Who do you support again?
Bob
Agree0

Bob everyone knows Scholes in his prime was better but Scholes doesnt have the speed or stamina anymore for 90 minutes. Modric is exactly what we need number 1 priority.
Agree0

Carric...that is an insult to any decent footballer. Carrick has to be the most limited footballer in the Premier league. Modric pulls the strings for both Spurs & Croatia in midfield. What does Carrick actually do? He can't tackle and shows little or no attacking ability. Supposedly a great passser of the ball but 90% of the time he passes sideways or backwards. Personally I think he is the root of all Uniteds problems at the moment

Carrick is brilliant, without him we wouldn't have the ball as much as we do. He intercepts the ball as his brain is better than a lot of players. He can tackle too when requiered. Too many have fell in love with Yaya for my liking.

So, comeone needs to confirm exactly what strings Modric has been pulling for Spurs because i can only see a player with limited ability, limited effectiveness and as for string pulling......Spurs did what last year? Apart from completely collapse in the second half of the season.....? If thats what Modric pulling strings can do, i think we can do without that particular skill set.
Anyone who can't see the class that Carrick has must be very new to the game of football, that's all i can say.
If you like your midfielders to be showy, over the top ego's, perhaps Chelsea are the team for you?
Carrick and Clevs would be more than good enough. All those saying we will not win anything without Modric are clearly incredibly shallow.
Bob
Agree0

Just a note but in the forces and work with a wide variety of fans and all spurs fans i know rave about the pairing of Modric and Carrick when they played together at spurs. Compliment each other well and could keep the ball all day, how many of spains 100s of passes a game go backwards or sideways???
Agree0
Disagree0
Carrick forces united to play on the backfoot. He totally hinders our attacking flair. If some people rate him as one of our best playes last season it is easy to see why we ended up winning nothing.No offence to the guy but he is not United standard. England don't rate him or either does it seem any other big clubs.

Thiago ain't going to happen - he signed a new four year deal last summer and, even with Cesc's arrival, played over 40 times for Barcelona last season. He's being groomed to fill Xavi's (large) boots. He's going nowhere.

PSG will will make a £25 million offer for Nani. It should give us more funds to spend, however I think Nani is a great player and I hope he stays. But on the other hand, it will give us more funds to buy more players, for example James Rodriguez of Porto.

So we're becoming like Liverpool sell the crown jewels and replace with billy average do us a favour.

Yeah because that's exactly what happened to the Ronaldo money. Nani is one of the most creative players at the club, he is reaching the peak of his career, he clearly wants to stay and despite the sheep mentality about his "incosistentity" he is more consistent, and younger than Young. Yet we have been trying to flog him for the past two summers. But don't worry Park can do a job there instead.

Nani out and an attempt to bring Bale in is the word all over google searches. I like that thought tbh. But, we should get 30m + for Nani he is still a quality player.
Agree0
Disagree0
I predict no Modric, Nani stays, we buy a defensive midfielder, a left back, and a striker to replace Berbatov. And maybe a surprise that nobody sees coming, like some cover for Vidic coming off on injury and an aging and declining Ferdinand. Smalling can do a job but if someone else gets injured they could have trouble there.

Ed, can you shed your knowledge on the situation with Jordi Alba and Barcelona? Is there much chance of us striking a deal with Valencia and Alba or is he definitely Barcelona bound?
He looks like a great wing back.
A.R {Ed002's Note - There is interest in Alba from Barcelona and speculation about interest from both Manchester based clubs. Chelsea and AC Milan both made speculative enquiries about Alba before the January window. I would hazard a guess he could spend his near-term career in Spain - certainly he could well worry about the impact on his international prospects. Staying at Valencia another year is a perfectly possible outcome as is a deal to involve a Barcelona player going on loan as part of the package - perhaps Tello.}

Sir alex ferguson always has 4 strikers in the squad and with berbatov&owen leaving this summer, who will he bring in?
Will keane would of been a likely choice but becasuse of his nightmare of an injury he will b out for the rest of the seaon:/.
i think ferguson is looking at a big strong forward someone who can head to ball and come on and make a big impact, rumours i have heard is that demba ba is on his way to united for 7million.
also ferguson is looking to bring a midfield player in and hes looking at ganso who playes for santos would cost around 20 million and also tottenhams luka modric for around 30 million pound which for me would be a great add to the squad, modric is something united need.

I made the mistake of thinking that the quote was from Croatia manager slaven bilic but its actually from some sporting gijon striker who claims to be his bff. i would be very surprised if real madrid went for modric and i would put money on him staying at spurs until at least next season seeing as chelsea dont need any more midfielders after signing hazard and marin and i dont see utd stumping the £30m-odd fee that levy is demanding

Barca have Fabregas and Alcantara to replace Xavi I dont see why they would want Modric. Real are intrested but i dont know why. They have Alonso, Diara and Sahin with the latter 2 barely getting game time.
Agree0

Modric wouldnt fit at Barca, different style, more like Alonso. Would fit at Madrid, but not with Alonso there. He wont go to Paris, so I really think unless Madrid sell a few surplus central midfielders who don't play, then its United or he stays another year.
However, with the manager leaving, Spurs are going to lose one of Bale or Modric, probably both, that ship is sinking now.

Reports in Portugal suggesting Man Utd are circling and ready to make a bid for Porto wide man James Rodriguez. The player is valued at 30 million euros and Man Utd are willing to offer Anderson as part of the deal to bring in the talent Columbian international.
Personally couldn't see this happening unless a wide player most likely Nani (sadly) would be leaving. If he did leave I would love Rodriguez at the club, something we are missing at the moment out wide... A left footed pace man.

Porto are sellers at heart, always have been, superb scouting and youth development system though, they always replace the players they sell with quality. They'll sell up if we come calling, however, it won't happen unless someone pays up for Nani. Not just 25M either, if Modric is worth that with one year left then Nani is worth more. Oh, and Modric is worth more than 25M too..

Hey if Ed002 is around i would like to ask who you would bring in to United this summer and do you think any huge money moves or shock moves will happen in the transfer window? {Ed002's Note - Unfortunately "huge" and "shock" are subjective terms but I would not rule out a player such as Modric arriving - although as I have explained there is strong interest from elsewhere.}

Can anyone answer whats actually going on with Pogba? Seen at the awards looking happy, Rio goes public and rates him then he is over at Juve.... Does anyone actually know if he will go or stay? And also Berba if he is going who are we going for as BVB have stated Lewandowski is not for sale.... Ed's? Sydney? {Ed002's Note - I would expect Pogba to complete his move to Juve. Lewandowski remains a possibility.}

Ed002, can I ask? Dortmund are maintaining that Lewandowski is not for sale, are they playing hardball to get a better offer or is he genuinely not available for sale? Thanks.
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Nothing will happen with Lewandowski until he has spoken with the club who would like him to sign a new deal. I would not rule out a move completely given that even player exchange involving Lewandowski was thought possible in January.}
Agree0

Ed002, thanks, can you tell us who the player offered was. Also do you think Berbatov could be used in a deal for Lewandowski or would wages be an issue?
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - The exchange that was discussed was for Williton. I don't see any sort of exchange between the clubs involving Berbatov - but Malaga's interest is real.}
Agree0

Ed002, you said a while back that United are looking for around 8m euros for Berbatov, is that still the case? If so what is the hold-up with his departure, why haven't teams snapped him up yet? Is there any issues that are holding things up?

The only midfielder that united need in my opinion is Moussa Dembélé from Fulham. He has everything you need from a CM. Creative, Strong, he can tackle and is more than comfortable with the ball at his feet. He is the stand out player for Fulham week in week out. He would thrive at united. He dominated the midfield when England played Belgium the other week. I know fergie is a fan and he would be half the price of rat faced Modric! Could be our answer to Yaya?

Agree0

Dembale is very under rated. He was the stand out midfielder against England imo, and I'm a big fan of Witsel, Fellaini and Hazard. Dembale and Tiote and Willems would represent an excellent close season. If we get 20m sales, it would mean the Glazers stumping up 30m. Kagawa was 12m down, Powell 2.75m down, Tiote could be bought for 15m, Dembale 12m and Willems 8m = 49.75m. Dembale started out as a striker and was a pretty good one at that. However, when he moved back to central midfield he blossomed. I have hopes on United getting Tiote as Newcastle are trying to land a Dutch defensive midfielder, whose name escapes me. SAF won't pay 20m, but I believe he would pay 15m - 16m for him. If the Glazers made 50m available, on top of 20m sales, I would like Witsel, Cabaye, Cissoko and Cisse, but I feel with the Glazers financial empire in dire straights, it just won't happen. My fear is that we will only get sales and 10m, which after Kagawa and Powell will leave us 15.25m. It's not out of the realms of possibility that we may finish up with Kagawa, Powell, Henriquez and Joe Allen. All potential,(except Kagawa) and no instant effect

I didn't read that we were interested in the lad, I just think that every time he plays he is a class act. Im sure you would love someone like modric or snejder? Because you know nothing about football, you may have seen there best bits on youtube so you think you know best. He is way above the level of Stoke and Everton! You watch wherever he ends up next season he will dominate just like Yaya. And at United under the guidance of SAF and the quality around him, he will prove you wrong nameless man!

Jetro Willems nothing more than a liability! Ripped to shreds by anyone he was up against during the Euro's. Yes he is young, but Fabio is far better

Dembele doesnt lose the ball and glides past players. He performs at club and international level. You all wanted Hazard because he had a fancy name and you'd never seen him play. Him and Dembele were in the same team and you would have thought Dembele was the 35 mill player. Him Kagawa and another striker would do magic for our attacking options...and hes young.

Real Madrid ? They rely on funding from the major Spanish banks. As these banks and Spain themselves are almost completely bankrupt I have a feeling that Real Madrid will struggle to raise funds for future transfers unless they sell players first. The same could also be said of Barca. I think the financial crisis in Spain will impact on their spending this transfer window. Modric will not go to Spain in my opinion. Parks, what exactly do you suppose Modric would bring to our Midfield, interms of what we desperately need? His stats prove that he barely provides any goals or assists, and on top of that he isn't athletic and can't tackle (clearly we need bite in Midfield) to save his life. Kagawa provides both assists and goals, so what do you suppose Modric's role in the team would be? Would he just pass the ball to Kagawa?! I agree completely that Modric is vastly over rated, and is not someone we should be considering. Honestly don't understand all of the hype about him, so to dismiss someone as "clueless" for expressing their opinion on a player on what afterall is a forum isn't entirely correct. The Southern Red

Southern red,
If you have watched the game tonight you will have noticed that croatia have had two good chances, one in each half, each of those chances was created directly by modric. Now, if those chances had been taken modric would have 2 assists against the world champions and his stats would look great wouldnt they? Stats will only tell you half of the story. I wonder how many chances created by modric were missed by spurs last year? Ive gone over the modric for utd argument a few times so im not doing it again. If you need me to tell you what modric can bring to our midfield then you either havent seen modric play enough, dont appreciate a player unless he scores or assists everytime he gets the ball or you seriously overrate our current midfield.

Parks, believe me there is no danger of me overrating our curreint Midfield lol. I just personally think he doesn't show up in enough big games consistently over the course of a Season (he was good last night, that isn't in question), but I honestly don't remember him having a significant impact last Season against virtually all of Spurs's main rivals at the top of the table in all competitions (City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea). Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an Attacking Midfielders role (this is what Modric is supposed to be, or a Creative Midfielder at the very least) predominantly to create and score goals? I'm not sure how much your argument for Spurs missing the kind of chances Croatia did last night from Modric's assists adds up tbh, but I just don't happen to think he's what he's cranked up to be on a consistent basis, in terms of influencing games where his team needs him to stand up and be counted. That's just my opinion, however :). The Southern Red
