If Moura came in, Nani surely would be on his way?

G.A.G.U.S

Believable7 Unbelievable8

As much as I disagree with the majority of twaddle Sidney chats, he raised one valid point if moura came in it could throw formations out the window a little. So nani would fit better into a roaming quartet with moura Rooney and kagawa . He is a better player when he is not fixed and often isolated in a strict left or right wing role. SUNDER

Agree0 Disagree0

Not necessarily, Moura has said that he wants to play behind the striker, the way that Hazard does. I don't know why you'd want to sell Nani, on his day (admittedly not very often) but he is a worldbeater, all he needs to improve is his consistency and he'll be up there with the best.

Jake F

Agree0 Disagree0

Consistency, end product, general crossing, passing vision......
Everything needs to improve except his natural technical dribbling ability really.....
Nice to watch but I have been losing patience with him for the last 3 years.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not young???

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesnt kagawa play behind rooney so how could moura?

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer Young out. I never rated him but he is a red so we have to support him anyway, but if we have the choice I prefer Nani by far. But I think both will stay anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

And where would Kagawa play then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Moura wont sign.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely Nani's on his way out given we've been linked to / put bids in for a number of players in his position.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani is more valuable a player than young id say. Both are "good wingers" at champions league & premier league level at the moment, but not in world class, or "elite" categories.

Nani still has a chance of making this type of level however, whereas young may have hit his peak. Nani has improved a lot in the last few years, isnt afraid in big games, and is now coming into peak years. Id say its 50/50 he makes to world class, along with most of the 35 odd million pound players in europe, such as hulks, falcao's and modric's, and perhaps 10% chance he makes it to "elite" level, with the likes of the rooneys/ augeros/iniestas etc. Although a new winger may be a good idea, i think its a waste to get rid of nani. Potential for growth is there, and already good enough to be a squad player if nothing else. Not a bad gamble in my opinion to loan out young if we need to make room.

{Ed022's Note - Hi all. I just wanted to notify you all that there has been a pretty hefty update to the Player Profiles website. This update now allows you, the fans, to upload your own profiles on any player, in any league, in any position. So, now rather than seeing just my own opinion on a player, you can now see other fans' opinions also on those players, as well as dropping a comment and giving your own. This update has taken a fair bit of time and I'm hoping that you'll all use it to the full etc, and just to come over to the site and have a look. - www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.}

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Cheers, i always enjoy your profiles. Thanks for the good work.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed22... I use the mobile version on this site, any chance of developing a link to player profiles page at top? And maybe to a links page with all the other clubs on? I'm sure this is available on the web version, but can't see on the low res mobile site. If we're really pushing the boat out I'd also like a text search function... But I don't want to push me luck ;)

Keep up the good work,

.Lucas Moura has offered to waive part of his problematic signing bonus in order to try and secure a move to man utd... so in other terms he is willing to scrap the 20% that he owns to force a move to the club. With Utd willing to pay him money as a signing on fee when he arrives.

fearny

Believable9 Unbelievable7

That is stupid comment signing on fee? why wouldn't they just pay the higher fee it would work out the same price douche

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson was the next ronaldinho before he came to england and look what happened.

tomr

Agree0 Disagree0

Because then they would have to pay the higher price AND the signing on fee..

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really no name, if Soa Paulo want 30m for him United would have to pay nearly 37m because Lucas wanted 20% of the fee. Now that he has waived that 20% United will (only) have to find 30m for the deal to go ahead. Although I think I'm right in saying he will get a signing on fee from United, I imagine it won't be anything near the 20%.
Mitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have no clue do you... the players get signing on fee's anyway when they join our club... Kagawa got 1.5 million for joining. Lucas Moura has been offered 2.5 million signing on fee and he is willing to scrap his current part of his deal to join Utd. (Plus he is going to be on a much higer wage)
P.S thanks for leaving a name unless its douche?

Rumour has it Lucas Moura is willing to drop a couple million of his signing on bonus to force a move to United. If true this is big news. Not just as it helps things financially, but that he is desperate to join us. Lets hope it's accurate info.

Sydney!

Believable11 Unbelievable6

Syd,

I think moura and RVP are big possibilities now. I also get the idea that the baines deal is dead. Kenwright wants way too much for him. Do you think we will still purchase a left back?

Joe.a

Agree0 Disagree0

This would be excellent news! There was no rumour at all about him today, I am quietly hoping that means something is in the pipeline!

Carl

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

Lot of people think that if we land Moura, nani is likely to be sold.

Whats your opinion on that?

I believe he would stay another year at least if he accept new deal.

JLBER84

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard something similar but was a little cagey tbh! I hope he signs as I feel a player such as him will make a major difference next year!
Q

Agree0 Disagree0

I've heard this well Syd, also heard that all that is required now is for the parents (dad is his agent) to meet UTD and deal will be done, again don't know how true but certainly seems things a hotting up

Langers

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Mora will have a big impact next season but eventually he will. To be the world's best team you have to have world class talent and I think he will provide that. Silly money for him but in the long run it will be worth every penny. Rooney was silly money when he came but it was worth it.

KB

Agree0 Disagree0

So what, we're all making the assumption that he's been signed? Until we hear something from the club, it's all rumours.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree0 Disagree0

Sure when we signed ronaldo he was cheap,so just think how good moura must be .....

Agree0 Disagree0

G.A.G.U.S

It is a rumour site mate.

Pip

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this documented or just what you have actually heard from a someone close to the situation.

looking at some reports it suggests that come 1st August he is entitled to a greater % of any deal aswell so I would expect this to be sorted before then...

added to this brazil play at OT on the 29th so could we see this all wrapped up by then???

i hope so

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

Joe, from what is being said the Baines deal isn't dead, but Everton are playing serious hardball. They will need to be careful as £12m-£15m is too much for them to turn down giving their finances. As we know SAF could walk away at any time as he has done so many times before. I think Baines will happen, but I get the feeling more important moves are being prioritised at this point. If we end up having to spend more than planned on Moura and perhaps Witsel, that may mean we have to look at a cheaper LB. But to be honest no one knows right now, it's all just speculation at this point.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

KB
No impact next season ? I appreciate any new player at any new club can take time to settle in but his price tag will dictate he gets a lot of games and, in spite of his tender years, I think he will make a big impact IF we get him.

Appreciate this could be Hazard all over again and I know Real and Inter have been sniffing around him too but this rumour seems to have more legs now. I thought it was just paper talk at first but clearly not if the bids we are putting in for this kid are kosher.

Not quite sure how he would line up with the other 2 attacking midfielders we've purchased in Kagawa and Powell though, accepting Powell may be the one more likely to be a player for the future.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Moura is a good player.but most importantly is that utd want to show that they can compete in the transfer market for the best players.thus we can maintain our respect and still keep on attracting world class players..

Lads, on Van Persie, I understand United made an enquiry to Arsenal, within the last two das, and were quoted a ridiculous figure for him. United have not come back, and nor do they plan to.

Ps. United reps met with Lucas Moura's parents today...which must surely mean a fee has been agreed / agreed in principle.

MPez

Believable5 Unbelievable5

RVP will be on a free next season. Arsenal want big money for him and no one wants to pay it with 12 months left on his contract. Wenger probably think that they can seriously compete this coming season and convince him to stay...delusional.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think Utd won,t go for RVP due to age I think it's all paper talk

19 Jul 2012 19:24:30
So today RVP story is meant to be from Fergies closest friends tellin this story to the press!the only way fergies closest friends would go talking to the press is if he's told them too.while playin the game of what's he's done before keep the press&other clubs all watchin one player while really he's after another,All know City will now start quickly jumping in trying to do deal&offering silly money as we all know its what the comedy club do everytime there's a Utd link. So with Fergie woudnt be surprised if one day its signing done somebody we woudnt expect

Believable10 Unbelievable1

Bob Cass is the journalist that the manager speaks to, he is his go-between, he is currently in Durban with the United squad and it was the Daily Mail who broke the RVP story I believe? Bob Cass works for the Sunday Mail.

It's funny you should post this as I was thinking the same earlier. Are we talking about RVP, but working on a deal for Lewandowski?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a great shout actually.
Remember last year when SAF was singing Charlie Adams praises? He never had any intention of signing him but it resulted in Liverpool paying over the odds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie had a spat with bob cass last year if Im not right . Look on YouTube I'm sure it was durin last ore season he tried to Interview Fergie after or before a game there's a video of Fergie telling him he's a s*** jurno and to f off as he went chatting rubbish about something in regards to Fergie before

Agree0 Disagree0

No name, very true, the manager had a massive row with him as he wrote in one of his articles that the manager told him personally, when he was meant to write "sources close to the club". I believe they are chums again now.

I think that the same names are being thrown into our transfer gossip too much, and with most of them there is clearly nothing going on, but could we be on the trail of someone who hasn't been mentioned? any replies would be welcome..

Jake

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Fellani hasn't been said much, I thought we were in for him instead of Baines, could happen you never know!

-JakeW

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, he would be a gret signing, I rate him very highly, and although I like Baines, his price tag is too much for someone his age and quality, plus he won't be 1st team, he'll just be cover for Evra, I think we need to either sign someone old for cheap who doesn't mind sitting on the bench and wait for someone like Brady to come through the ranks, or sign someone young who will be Evra's successor.

Jake F (the poster)

Agree0 Disagree0

Rasmus Elm from AZ Alkmaar is a possibility. He's a central midfielder...have seen next to nothing of him but I did hear we were linked with him!

Andy

Agree0 Disagree0

He was linked before the transfer window opened I think, from what I hear of him he sounds like a good player, but he's probably one of AZ Alkmaar's prized assets, so he would probably come at a high price unfortunately.

This was the best article I could find that could put it better than I can. might make an interesting read,

Manchester United is continuing their pursuit for the young
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Moura.
However, many Red Devil fans believe Moura is not really
the player that Sir Alex Ferguson should be spending his
time or money on. Moura is considered more of an
attacking midfielder, and many consider defensive midfield
the Red Devils' weakness. Also, Tom Cleverly and Shinji
Kagawa provide young skill at the attacking midfield
position.
If Manchester United were to let Moura slip through their
grasp, he would easily be signed by one of their Premier
League rivals and would be used to directly to attack the
Red Devils' weakness.
As the deal between Manchester United and Lucas Moura
becomes closer and closer to an official signing, here are
some reasons why Moura will do well at Old Trafford.
Moura has impressive pace for a central midfielder. His
overall speed allows him to get down the field in a hurry
and be a threat to opposing defenses. His quick feet give
him the shiftiness to weave throughout the defense and into
striking distance.
The 19-year-old from Brazil has also shown he is a dual
threat. His great vision allows him to spot open teammates,
even from across the field. With his incredible leg strength,
Moura can send an accurate laser pass to a teammate or a
dagger shot to the back of the net. Opposing defenses will
have to tightly guard the attacking midfielder and take him
away.
He also has the ability to get back on Defence if necessary. His
strength and size allow him to disrupt transitions and take
the ball back for his team.
Manchester United has a young team, and Moura would
seem to be a good fit for them. He would add to their
powerhouse attack. His speed would allow him to move up
and down the field, and both his attack and defensive skills
would help the Red Devils be more successful in the
midfield.

..constantine..

Believable10 Unbelievable7

I am one of the people who didn't want to sign Moura, although I always have trust in SAF, even with stupid signings like Bebe. After reading this article though it makes me think about how the first line of defence is attack, which could make him a great signing. I also posted a few days ago saying we don't need another midfielder, but strength in depth would be great, thanks for the article.

Jake

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont mean to quible but I doubt we would sign Moura for his defensive skills.
I honestly dont think we will sign another winger or a midfielder as attacking as the talented brazillian. Kagawa plays the false number 10 role as can rooney and we already have 3 wingers plus giggs. A midfileder that can pass and play in a 2 or 3 in central midfield is much more likely..

No no no no no, what are the Mirror thinking? This Van Persie rumour won't go away will it?

There is no chance he is coming to us - none, zilch, nada. As I understand it, Ferguson made a tentative enquiry on the cheap, was told "no way" and that was the end of it.

Put it this way - if both or either RVP or Moura sign for us in the window then I'll dance naked in the Stretford end.

Journo's writing rubbish and we are forced to persuade ourselves to believe it.

GEG

Believable11 Unbelievable11

Someone else who talks sense we do not need either of them. Van persie is not getting any younger and is known to have injury problems which will only get worse with age, all that combining with the fact it would hamper welbeck and hernandez it'd be an awful signing. Might as well just keep berba for another season.

tomr

Agree0 Disagree0

GEG

I'd be surprised if we haven't at least enquired after RVP. Fergie has been a long term admirer, and RVP has courted United's interest a couple of times in the past. He's a quality player and, if there's a chance of getting him for 10m - 15m, surely it would be irresponsible of us not to take it?

Put it another way... If you could get RVP for the equivalent of Berbatov + 5m, wouldn't you think he'd be worth a punt?

Whether he'd choose us over City, Juve etc is another question entirely, but I wouldn't be that surprised if he did.

DarkLard08

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah i agree but it wouldnt it be amazin if we did sign VP can u imagine rooney and VP up front kagawa just behind anto and ash and micky c holdin things behind them people r sayin we have welbeck and chica but i think chica is more of a ole gunner type impact sub and it wont do either of them any harm havin the 2 boys up front and learn off them....me personally id prefare RVP than lucas right now hed cost half the price yes hes 28 but proven quality and then buy another decent midfeilder for 20m....im not namin any1 cause theres so much speculation bout that position....ah 2 dream it would be nice doh...btw i dont think hel sign for city unless theres a major clearout of strikers but juve might even tempt the most loyal of players right now.....

Where has all the hype around James Rodríguez gone?! I think Lucas Moura is a fantastic player, but unless we sell Nani, we just don't need him. Where as we do need a left footed winger. Vote Believable for Rodriguez, Unbelievable for Lucas. Just wondering who the fans would prefer?

There is no reason why we will not go back to Porto with an improved offer for Rodriguez at a later date, if the Moura pursuit comes to an end.

Come to my attention that the only real centre midfielder we have been linked with is Joao Moutinho.

I think the reason he is looking in other positions i.e Left back, Wingers and Strikers is because we have a bundle of talent coming through for the central positions as shown last night in the tour match.

The likes of Petrucci,Lingard,Tunnicliffe all coming through the system and performed brilliantly last night. They are all completely different but are all immensely talented, Petrucci is quality on the ball with quick feet, good range of passing and as he showed last night a hell of a shot. Lingard, is similar to the way Cleverly is with his pace and movement with quick passes and is now a modern player from the same ilk as iniesta. Tunnicliffe reminds me very much of a young Nicky Butt/Roy Keane, tough, strong and loves a tackle, he can break the game up next to a player like cleverly to control the play.

fearny

Believable13 Unbelievable6

Excellent comment. I completely agree. There is a lot of talent in the CM position now. I don't see the need to strengthen that position with so many quality players vying for those positions.

I would love the see the likes of Powell, Petrucci, Lingard and Tunnicliffe given their opportunity to cement a position in the first team. I believe they will.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would agree with that fearny, but our current mid-field selection is not strong enough. ever since the 1st loss to barca we have been praying that we would get a world class player or 2 in there... we haven't

YES the current group coming through look very very promising.... BUT can we wait for them to be ready.. they all need playing time to improve and will they get this.

given that Tunnicliffe is the only one from the group who looks like a strong dm/cm i would love for us to sign another one....

Martinez is and will always be by first choice, but m'vila has all the attributes to fill this role and would be a hell of a lot cheaper.....
I can understand the interest in RVP, and Moura but think that we need a strong mid-fielder first…. Signing Martinez would mean that we would then have 2 players for the DM role and also cover for CB (in martinez) so no need to have 4 CB’s in the squad and can have cover somewhere else..
Oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that we can't wait for the youth at the moment. Our central midfield is just not good enough right now. It could be a season or two before the likes of Petrucci, Tunnicliffe, Powell, etc are ready. IMO we're looking at 2nd or 3rd place in EPL and an early exit from UCL in the meantime. That's a hell of a gamble.

RedMonkey

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree!..I don't think we need cover in midfield as we have loads of talent there...why bother with youth development if we're not going to play them?..people need to cast their minds back to the class of 94...

I'd love to see Moura signed as he appears to have that extra something,...the 'Ronaldo' factor.

Agree0 Disagree0

94!? We have been trying to do the same since 94 but that's 18 yrs ago and very rarely happens.

We may have potential but what about the present. We sit back while City continue winning trophies with the chance that in a year or 2 we may have a midfield that's good enough. We have been trying to develop players for years and they rarely turn out to be good enough regardless of what anyone thinks. People base their opinions on watching these lads playing against other young mediocre players. There is a huge step up to premier league standard. WE should continue as we and develop players but we need players that are ready to make a difference now. We can always sell these when our youngsters are ready for the step up

Agree0 Disagree0

I just worry that bringing in a top class- midfielder will slow their progression as there will be even less chance of them getting a game... I really see Petrucci and Tunnicliffe being involved throughout the season along with the more experienced players Anderson,Scholes,Carrick,Cleverley,Giggs etc.

Only reason I see us buying a midfielder is if we sell Anderson which isn't going to happen

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmmmm, sounds familiar.

Oh yeah, its what we were saying last summer when we didn't buy a CM, only last summer it was Pogba and Morrison instead of Petrucci etc.

Lets just wait and see if a) they stick around and b) they come good, before claiming they're the answer to our problems. And our problems in CM are gigantic.

We wont be seeing any of this lot this season, in major games. So if you're happy to take a few hidings in CM off the big clubs again, fill your boots.

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

Fearny

I do think those youngsters look very promising but they won't be regular starters for at least a year or two. We need someone for now IMO. I don't see it blocking any1's progression if we were to bring in just 1 quality CM - especially considering we look to be moving to a 3 man midfield. Anyway out of the names you mentioned - I would say it is highly unlikely that all three will go on to be regular starter's in any case. We don't often see a 100% success rate of bringing the through the youth

Having said all that, I wouldn't be surprised if SAF feels the same as you and disagrees with me!

lucas moura, robin van persie and a left back maybe leighton baines.......................that would be the best squad man utd might have and can win the BPL as well as UCL this season ............but these all might just cost united 60 m pounds and we might get 10 or 12 m from outgoings........that makes 65 m expenditure in the entire transfer window including kagawa, powell and park ,berba, anderson. seems pretty realistic though.

You mean EPL perhaps, No such thing as British Premier League.

As for those three, great for fantasy football, but in reality just signing Javi Martinez alone do more for us. Of course we are no more likely to get him than the trio you've named.

Realistically, if we get one decent central midfielder who can pass AND win the ball, that would be better than any attacking talent you care to name. We already know how to attack, just like we know how to defend, what we don't know how to do anymore is dominate a midfield.

Lucas Moura and RVP would be amazing but can’t see Baines happening, as Fergie has nothing but praise for the ‘ever present’ Evra. If we can add Moura and RVP (very big if) to our existing squad, and looking at how well our youngsters played last night (although it was only against a three piece from the 80’s) then things are looking good, very good.

Manchester United is expected to start selling stock to the public as early as next week in New York, for pricing in early August.

the Glazer family is now looking to raise $300 million on the IPO, less than the $500 million previously contemplated.

Investment bank Jefferies is running the float reported the FT, but it added: "Morgan Stanley decided not to work on United's forthcoming IPO believing its owners were seeking an unrealistic valuation."

earlier in the week it was reported that fund managers who had seen the primary prospectus were "negative or lukewarm" about the prospect of buying shares in the club.

The valuation could well be an issue with the Glazer's seeking to maximise their income/profit. Let's hope they are not too unrealistic or stubborn with it and that we can start moving towards being debt free

Does anyone think that we should cash in on Hernandez for £20million and sign RVP or Lewandowski for around the same price as they score goals but they are also good target men where Chicharito is awful at keeping th ball and severely over rated in my books... I would love a selection of 4 strikers Rooney,Lewandowski/RVP,Welbeck and would of been Keane but hes injured so maybe Macheda as the 4th.

Also I would cash in on Nani and sign Lucas Moura and Afellay as our 4th winger so we had Lucas,Valencia,Young and Affellay.

Believable16 Unbelievable17

And hows your video game team working for you

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez is amazin he is Wat most strikers should be first touch an goal 20+ goals first season wit welbeck there last season he didn't get much game time which he needs look at his movement off the ball the space he creates. Serious mate I would offload welbeck before Hernandez anyday

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree 100%. I think he is very overrated and is caught offside to often as well. I'd take the £25m we'd get and sign m'villa and keep berba. I think Saf has treated berba very badly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you serious!!! RVP has one good season and you want to swap him with little pea. I am not even going to respond to the rest of the rubbish you posted

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Hernandez is good at what he does - put the ball in the back of the net.

I'd see how he does this season after a proper summers rest as he hasn't had one for the last few years.

Adz

Agree0 Disagree0

Nope, keep hernandez, sell welbeck and berba and maybe young/nani and buy moutinho and rvp

Agree0 Disagree0

I have different opinions about Hernandez, he is without doubt, our best striker when it comes to positioning. Makes goalscoring so easy. But Im not sure if he will be good enough as a "alone striker" with the possible 4 2 3 1 formation. On the other hand, he creates room for the other attacking players, with his runs.... So I don`t know really. Him and Welbeck are two different types of players, so it is good to have the option of those two. I would use the cash to strengthen the midfield.

Steffen

Agree0 Disagree0

So your logic is sell a player who is 24 and is a bit out of form who only needs a couple of goals to get his confidence up.. And buy someone who is A) like van persie at the age of 29 and has had one good season and is injury prone or B) Lewandowski who is talented but unproven in the EPL and again has only had one good season

Secondly sell Nani for Lucas Moura and Afellay... Afellay is definaetly not good enoug and nowhere near the standard of Nani. And all the brazilian experts are saying what a gamble Lucas Moura is because he is not yet moulded in to a top class player. (Btw you have probably on watched Lucas Moura on youtube when they only show his good bits not the stuff he does wrong)

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldnt be cashing in on Hernadez as a previous poster said he is good at ehat he does ball into the box he is leathal... If he gets more games this season he could be our highest scorer Kagawa, nani, young can all see the cutting pass and hernadez has a great eye for the run if he can stay onside

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernadez is a strange one for me, his first season he was electric, fast great finishing - defenders didnt have a clue how to play him.
Forward to last season and it seemed defenders knew how to play him resulting him having to come much deeper, his link up play isnt great and why Welbeck was first choice over him.

IMO welbeck is a better overall player than Chico but chico is the better finisher.

Selling him is very extreme as i wouldnt want anybody else coming on the last 10mins if you need a goal, reminds me alot of Solsjkaer.

Having Rooney, RVP, welbeck and Chico would give us great firepower and time for espeically welbeck to grow more into the roll as a top striker and not put so much pressure on him.

Giants14

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas moura is not only a winger ........... he has stated that he would like to play as a CAM in his career rather than a winger. so arrival of lucas moura wont affect nani.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the stick Hernandez is getting is unwarranted. He suffered a couple of niggling injures and didn't start that many games but he still chipped in with a few goals.

The problem is that when he wasn't on top form and lacked a bit of sharpness so he has drifted out of games. We could cope with this if our midfield was better. I think last season was a truer reflection of someone settling in at United. Expectations were too high - people forget he's only young so is learning a lot. He's clever, very fast and has the finishing ability to be a top player with us.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Hernandez is as poor as you think he is how can he be worth £20-25 million? A little reality may be needed here. Personally I think with a good rest and pre season he will show his worth next season, not as a lone striker but as an option if we go 2 up front or as an impact sub, much like Ole.
As to RVP, no doubt a great player but for me the price would have to be good taking into account his age and injury record. I think there may be better options out there.
Mr Q

Agree0 Disagree0

Chico is going to improve, he has time on his side. RVP is 29, not going to get much better.
It would be mad to even consider this.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

I think our striking department is going to be very dependant on the formation we use next season. If we go with two up top I think Hernandez has to start as he is our best natural finisher, however if we are going to go with one leading the line I really don't think Hernandez can do that job. We need someone up front who can hold the ball up, link the play, bring our crative players into the game as well as provide a goal threat. Personally I would love to see us with RVP up top with Rooney and Kagawa just behind threading passes through. However if we go with two up front it's Rooney and Hernandez for me.

Barry

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez is top class! We got Rooney and welbeck and meccada is still guna be big! We don't need another striker we need a right back, and a defencive strong midfielder who don't care about attacking!

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree with Hernandez being massively overrated, people say we expect too much of him, but he is 24, I would say 26 is the peak of anyones career, and he hasn't improved since he joined us. He isn't that young, he is always caught offside, it was probably about 5-6 times last night, and the only thing he is good at doing is finishing, but is that what we need? we are one of the best clubs in the world and you all think we need a player who can just finish?
However I completely disagree with selling nani and getting Moura and Afellay, firstly Nani is a great player on his day, he terrorises defences, if he improves his consistency he will be up there with the best in the world, whereas Moura seems like a very overrated player too, he isn't proven over here, he won't get as much time to do all of his little skills which asks the question is he worth his price tag? No, definately not, I wouldn't pay a penny over 20m for him. And as for Afellay, anyone can look good when they play for Barca, yes he's good but not good enough for us with our strength down the wings, Valencia is the best RW in the league, probably top 5 in the world, and then Nani can play either wing, and is a worldbeater on his day, and Young is consistently good and occasionally amazing so you know what you're going to get with him, but he also has the talent to do something out of nothing.

Jake

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas moura is not only a winger ........... he has stated that he would like to play as a CAM in his career rather than a winger. so arrival of lucas moura wont affect nani.

.....Lets get rid of Kagawa then?

duggo

Agree0 Disagree0

I was a massive fan of Hernandez after his first season. Loved his style of play - cunning runs followed by neat finishes. We always need someone like that in the squad. However, last season and to an extent last night he has worried me with his poor control, first touch and all round technical ability. He will have to improve on these big time and will need to impress over pre-season to show the boss he's still got it

So, I wouldn't sell him. He's young and has time to improve

Also, agree with Mr Q - don't get posters who say how shocking he is but then say we can get £20-25m for him?! How does that work. Goes the same for Nani, I've seen people on here slating him just to go on to say sell him for £35m! Again, how does that work?

If these players are that poor then surely we won't get such sums for them

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Jake you just contradicted yourself!
You say Chico hasn't improved since signing with us, you do know he has only been there 2 seasons. Then you say he is only good at finishing.... What do you want your striker to do if not score?
You then say how we should keep Nani and on his day blah blah blah. Nani has been with us for several years and hasn't improved. He blows hot and cold non stop. He has had his time, let's cash in and get someone who can do the job on a more regular basis.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

Sell Hernandez, but we would be lucky to get 12m. The guy is great at getting into position, but has no ability outside the 6 yard box. He can't trap the ball, pass, shot from further than 8 yards. We should sell him and Young, keep Nani and buy a midfield. All the midfielders we have are either, not up to it, past it, or not ready for another season or two. I think Lucas would be great, but I'd rather M'vila and Eriksen. As for RVP, he won't be coming here and at 29 I'm pleased. If we had a couple of even reasonable midfielders, to complement our bare bone midfield then I'd love Lucas and RVP. We need to mend the part thats broken and it's not winger or striker, (except for Hernandez), it's a midfield that is the weakest since SAF came 25 years ago
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

How did I contradict myself? I said he hasn't improved which he hasn't, and then said the only thing he is good at is finishing, which has been the same since he arrived.. From a striker at such a big club I expect him to be able to link up with play, which he can't do as he hasn't got the touch or vision to see a pass.
Nani has improved massively since he joined, at first everyone slated him for trying to be like Ronaldo, so what? he likes to use a bit of skill, he has crafted himself to suit the BPL by becoming a more physical player as well as skillful, he has a great shot, he can beat a man with his eyes closed, and can cross a ball, what more do you want from a winger? and also Young is very consistent and does a good job when he's played, so why buy when we could write off some of our debt?

I'd be interested to hear what people think about this RVP situation... For any Arsenal player we've been linked with over the last few years, the bottom line has been that Arsenal would not sell to United. End of. It was that way with Viera, with Fabregas and with Nasri. Can you honestly see Wenger letting RVP come to us?

Believable10 Unbelievable13

I think - looking at the last few seasons - he'd rather sell to us than city

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a fair point but after selling so many players to Man City in a relatively short period of time,Could selling to United be seen --extraordinary as it is-- as the lesser of too evils and the easier Transfer to swallow.

BornInToIt

Agree0 Disagree0

Van Persie is going abroad.

Agree0 Disagree0

At this point he'd be set on not selling to City, so if Juventus can't cough up its a very real possibility..

Not saying it will happen but really its not totally unthinkable

TM

Agree0 Disagree0

However, arsene wenger says he does not want to sell to man city anymore, so its either juventus or utd

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not sure they wouldn't have sold Nasri to us, i think he just choose to go to City instead of United. i think the extra 60 grand a week or so they were offering may have had something to do with it!

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest i think if he and united want the move, and with the state his contract is in i dont think arsenal would have much choice personally. i mean think about it the other way round would united rather Rooney went to arsenal on a free or he went to arsenal for 10 million? but it remains to be seen whether he and united want the move at all, im always reading this story and that story. we've been definitely linked with practically everyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think Wenger would prefer RVP to come to us rather than lose another player to City which basically makes Arsenal look like City's feeder club.

Rjmanutd

Agree0 Disagree0

We have done business before with Silvestre. But we were also offered Cole before he went to Chelsea, this was due to us having Heinze.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

Im certain utd wont sign van persie. arsneal players dont sign for utd and vice versa (except for a over the hill silvestre). if he signed i would be intrigued rather than excited as he has had 1 good season in 8 for arsenal with most of his time on the treatment table. if he and rooney did hit it off then watch out the rest of europe but there is that nagging doubt in my mind about his history of injuries

Agree0 Disagree0

RVP is a realistic prospect IMO. He has a lot of respect for the club and the manager; and I think he would fit in very well with our style of play.

I for one can see a deal being done. He will not cost us an arm and a leg; and I believe he will probably want parity in terms of wages, with Rooney, which the club would agree to - IMO.

I shouldn't think his price tag would exceed 20 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Arsenal were direct rivals to Utd there was not a cat in hells chance Wenger would sanction a sale to us.
Times change though.
I think if he had to sell he'd rather sell to us than City.
As to the story in todays Mirror, strangely two of their top journos in Lewis and McDonnell have attached their names to it. Thats a big risk if its not true as SAF will not appreciate being mentioned in a false story about him.
Make of that what you will...

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the anon above...2 people attached their name to 1 story. You do not see that very often unless they have both heard the same story from someone reliable.

I really take it all with a pinch of salt...but £20m and £175k a week is what I think!

I would just like to point out to everybody some points about Shinji Kagawa and Lucas Moura.

Shinji Kagawa - if he signs he will NOT be playing in a Midfield three, he will not be playing LM, we have LMs for that..(duh).  On the left of a front three, certainly, but not left of a Midfield Four.  For those who watched the game last night we got a view as to where the lad will be playing, as the second striker, a la where Rooney is at now.

Lucas Moura - likewise, if he was to sign, he would not be playing RM or LM of a flat Midfield Four.  His talents would be wasted in these areas, and are more suited to further up the field.

So the moral of this post is don't put them in these areas!  ;)

jred

Agree0 Disagree0

On joining Man United kagawa said that his best position was "playing in the hole." Ferguson has said since that kagawa might be used as an attacking midfield player as you mentioned and used him there yesterday. I cant see him taking rooneys place though, so if he is going to be in contention for a first team place, its likely he will compete in both areas i think.

I think its a great signing for us, because when rooney needs a rest or is injured he will fill that role, and when not, he will be in contention for a deeper midfield role. Last season we deputised young and even wellbeck in that role of 2nd striker, but it really didnt work. Kagawa seems as though he has the ingredients to play a central midfielder passing game, and i would agree that he probably looks best as an attacking midfielder. I think he is a well thought out signing, that will bring us much needed cover in both these areas if nothing else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sometimes I think we try too hard to define a player's position. Let's be honest 'in the hole' and CAM can mean very similar things, especially when there are 2 deep lying midfielders behind that man...

i want to know , has there been any interest from our side in Nuri Sahin?A fantastic footballer and i guess ,he would suit our needs better than moura...But whether madrid are willing to sell him to us?that is another question...Any idea ED's?

RED DEVIL FOR LIFE {Ed002's Note - Sahin has had injury problems this year but rumours do persist about his long term future. If he were to leave I would very much suspect a move to Italy (possibly with AC Milan) or a return to Germany (with Bayern Munich) would come before any thoughts of a move to England. Malaga also spoke to Madrid about the possibility of a loan and Galatasaray would like to take him to Turkey.}

Now that's what I call a proper rumour! Got to love a bit of "my best mates mums sisters butcher" gossip! I think Bilbao want a lot more money than we actually realise. We all say 40m, but I would say they want upwards of 50m for him.

T0MB0Z

jred

Agree0 Disagree0

The buy-out clause is only relevant if the player chooses to activate it and move away. I would expect Martinez to waive that clause if a move was happening so Bilbao could maximise the price. Bilbao's president has actually talked about much higher prices than 40m - I've seen him quote both 50m and 60m. I would imagine he'd end up costing 45m - 50m plus a hefty signing on fee.

DarkLard08

Agree0 Disagree0

Buy out clauses arent relevent at all because alot of players have them its none of the other clubs business so how would they know what the clause is unless they tapped up the player or his agent hence why alot of transfers end up being valued at over buy out clauses so clubs dont end up in court trying to justify how they know what the clause was.

I've just been asked by a mate a random question with regards to our LB situation and wondered what you guys think of it.

He thinks Maynor Figueroa would be worth a punt on a 3 year deal as he's a on a free transfer. He thinks he would be ideal as cover for Evra.

I dunno what to think, on the face of it it could be a good idea. Figueroa caught my eye a few seasons ago but seems to have gone off the boil since. What do you guys think?

REUTERS reporting that IPO is to raise $300m/£190m, rather than $500m/£320m. They do say it could still change though.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

That would bring the debt down to £230m, lower than Arsenal's gross debt. Cashflow will increase slightly, but would be accountable for more tax. I think the amount floated could rise or could file for different IPO in a different market?

Sydney!

Less is being offered than was initially intended hence the drop, I'd be very surprised if the situation changes given not only the state of the market but also the level of criticism of the IPO. The latest release from Forbes is advantageous to the Glazers though.
