Have just returned from holiday in Calafell [about an hour away from Barca]. Barman at our local was avid Barca fan and he was adamant that Xavi was very close to joining Utd this summer but that Barca pulled plug when Fabregas move fell through. Seen quite a few comments on this site about this and thought I'd throw in my quids worth. Don't know if it's true, but this guy seemed genuine enough

The Xavi to Utd story DOES have an element of truth in it apparently. Spanish newspaper EL PERI?ìDICO [which is one of the most popular in Catalunya] has information about 3 meetings held between Utd and Barca to discuss the deal. Some further legwork is being done by reporters of the paper to try and see how advanced the negotiations had become - then it will will break. Source - one of the team of 3 journalists working on the story. Perhaps the old Seagull wasn't so full of s* *p after all ?
This also confirms to what I have heard through my contact in the club. Seagull - please post again. Would love to hear your comments on this latest news to break. If Seagull was right about Xavi, was he also right about De Rossi and the other bloke? Were we too quick to condemn him ?
