A certain site is reporting that Mario Gotze is expected in Löndon tonight for talks with Arsenal.....,I am not happy Edd,is there any truth in this? {Ed004's Note - I doubt it}

Believable3 Unbelievable18

Hes just signed a new contract with dortmund for a further 4 years!

Agree0 Disagree0

Only to bump up his value

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought he had like a 28 mil euro release fee?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he extended his contract by a further 2 years , i think he still had 2 years left on his original contract so i would be surprised to see him move this summer , unless someone puts silly money on the table

As it stands we can win the title on April 30th when we play s**ty! Loving the thought of this

Believable20 Unbelievable0

As it stands we are 2 points in front so winning there would mean 5 with 2 to go.....

you just assuming that tonight is a give-me as that would be very wrong.

still a lot of hard work needed but it is looking closer now.

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

Going there as champions enjoying the occasion would be sweeter

Agree0 Disagree0

If we win tonight and again at the weekend with Arsenal doing a number on city that would leave us 8 points clear 7 if arsenal draw.

With this in mind a draw at "Empty-Had" would swecure us the league.

I would be over the "BlueMoon" if this happened - what a way to give it to them. Taking possession of the title on their home turf. Ad insult to injury!

: - ) < massive grin on my face at just the thought!

Monk

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's not get carried away just yet. We have Blackburn away tonight which should be a tough one as they're fighting for PL survival and I'm pretty sure we have Everton away before we play City?

United going to try and bring in Cheick Tiote from Newcastle in the summer. Seems to be the rumour going round at the moment.

Berbatov and Park Ji Sung will both be sold if a reasonable bid comes in. {Ed002's Note - MOTD Fever again.}

Believable4 Unbelievable29

I don't think there is a chance that we will go for Tiote, firstly he can't pass a ball and secondly when do we ever sign players who will leave for the AFCON every two years? Its very unlikely.

RedDevil19 {Ed002's Note - There is also an ACON next year.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Ed, he isn't that good, certainly not United standard. Park and Berb out though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't pass says all

Pardoe

Berba will definatly be off, Park I'm unsure about although he should be off he's past it now (watch him score tonight now I've said that lol)

Like always, we have been linked with almost all the good players and potential players. As much as I love spending my time imagining what our team could look like.
Javi Martinez could fit right in our team and he should b our number one target.(dont care if city have strong interest, we are United!) He can give cover to our back 4 and play there if needed.
Clyne could b very good option n cover or rb for very little price. Similarly if we do go for Mateo(spelling Croation kid) and Ross barkley we should def take them to preseason so tht they can go to potential Premier league club( bolton{wilshere} sunderland or even the athletic club etc) so tht they can mature in a year or 2.
We have so much potential midfield option who are 16 or 17. United should concentrate on developing them, giving them time and guidance (and good loan option Macheda or Samdoria and Qpr was s**t idea) and a fan we should b behind them. So tht we will have great players who loves playing forUnited!

Choesen

Believable9 Unbelievable3

I think that Kovacic would be good enough to go straight into the first team, Barkley would have a loan though i think.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

You said we have great potential in the midfield, and they should be nurtured etc, but you then suggest buying 3 young midfielders. All of them are good options, but a little contradictory.

any chance of us getting BEN ARFA??im and strootman would be enough for us for next season ..i think sir alex will also promote petrucci and pogba to the first team next season and give them more opportunities(a LB to replace evra would be a bonus).what are the chances of us getting ben arfa?any idea ed's?

RED DEVIL FOR LIFE {Ed002's Note - You need to lie down - you have a bad case of MOTD Fever.}

Believable3 Unbelievable20

Sometimes, the fever gets to me ED....but this guy would be a bargain for 10-12 million if we can get him.anyway, as advised, i will lie down till the MOTD fever goes away.

RED DEVIL FOR LIFE

Agree0 Disagree0

Hardly motd fever when ben arfa has been around a good few years

Agree0 Disagree0

I've actually thought this too for a few weeks now.

He can take good free kicks, cross, natural lefty with prem experience. Cheaper than bale better than gaitan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben Arfa...are you real.
ED002 is correct you have got MOTD fever.
He's had two good games...before the two good games he was struggling getting a starting place in the Newcastle team and you want him at Man U?
He's an average player at best, lazy doesn't track back and thinks he is better than he is. Add to the fact he is injury prone....no thanks. We need to get rid of average players at Man U not add to them.

I don't see any big names coming in apart from Modric, the rest will be risks/relatively unknown talents.

Modric, Strootman, Siquiera, Debuchy and Huntelaar will all come in.

Believable4 Unbelievable14

Modric is a relatively small name .If your looking for alarge name then you should be looking towards the Dutch , who seem to have a monopoly on large names.

He mentioned 2 Dutch players, although i doubt we'll go anywhere near Huntelaar. Also i'd expect to see Debuchy at Bayern.

Granada left-back Guilherme Siqueira has emerged as a possible summer transfer target for Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has impressed during his first season in Spain's top flight and has been linked with Atletico Madrid and Valencia in recent weeks.

United have been alerted to the Brazilian's performances and Sir Alex Ferguson's brother, Martin, was spotted in the stands for Granada's home game against Sevilla on monday
United have also been credited with an interest in Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy.

The Red Devils are known to be considering bringing in new full-backs in the summer, as Rafael and Fabio da Silva have not developed as quickly as had been hoped.

Good to see some 'believable' transfer rumours today. No doubt Shappy will be pleased to hear Strootman's name pop up, i think that he would be a good option if Martinez proves to be too pricey. Whilst sitting alot, he does tend to spray the ball around well and get forward and attack when the time is right - all the evidence is there to show that he has a good footballing brain and would suit us down to the ground.

Not so sure i believe that Podolski snubbed us for Arsenal. If it is true though it might indicate that we are looking for a left footed player which would agree with many thoughts on here. I don't think SAF has ever signed a German so i wouldn't be surprised if its just a fabricated story.

RedDevil19

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Fergie signed German goalkeeper Ron-Rober Zieler from FC Koln. Think he's probably the only German though!

If united get rid of berbatov like you are saying. Don't you think Fergie would go for huntelaar? Seeming he is a long term admirer of him, and would cost a stupid fee

Believable2 Unbelievable10

No cos he's flopped at 2 big clubs already, he's alright as a small fish in a small pond but struggles in a big pond.

Agree0 Disagree0

He didnt really flop
he was at madrid for half a season had a good scoring record in that time
and he didnt start many for milan and was sold to make room for ibra

Agree0 Disagree0

Not United quality imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

So basically he flopped then, as if he was all that good they wouldn't have signed ibra (who lets face it most games makes Berb seem positiviely interested)

Manchester United owners the Glazer family has struck a secret multi-million pound deal with PepsiCo to rename Old Trafford. The deal, which will come into effect from the start of the 2012-13 season, will bring more than £400 million into the club coffers over the next 10 years, a source close to the deal exclusively revealed to United Rant this week.
United’s home stadium since 1910 will be renamed ‘Pepsi Cola Old Trafford’ from August 2012, according to documents seen by Rant, and then simply Pepsi Field from 2015. The deal does not initially include shirt sponsorship, although Pepsi is believed to have an option to take over shirt sponsorship from AON, when United’s deal with the insurance firm concludes in three years. It could push the total value of the deal to more than £60 million per season.
The historic deal, brokered by United’s London-based commercial team headed by Edward Woodward, will be greeted with delight by United’s bean counters, while it will likely draw anger from those supporters opposed to changing more than 100 years of Old Trafford history.
Secret talks with the giant New York-based American soft drinks and snacks company, which turned over more than $57 billion in 2010, have been taking place for more than six months the source told Rant. PepsiCo Europe is said to have day-to-day responsibility for the groundbreaking sponsorship, although New York senior management were required to signed off on the deal, which is believed to be the biggest of its kind in football.
“Make no mistake this is a done deal,” the source, who did not want to be named, told Rant.
“The Glazer family is secretly delighted with the deal, although they know that it will bring an angry reaction from some fans’ groups. But just as the Green and Gold protest has gone away, the Glazers know that as long as Sir Alex Ferguson keeps delivering results on the pitch, commercial activity will be unaffected by fans’ complaints.
“Pepsi is one of the most active American companies in sports sponsorship, but rarely outside of North America. This is a strategic move for the company to build an even bigger global audience. United has been tracking this deal for months, perhaps even years. Joel Glazer pulled out all the stops to seal it.”
Pepsi, through its cola brands, Gatorade and snack products, has sponsorships across a number of sports, including Major League Baseball, American Football and Ice Hockey. Pepsi has won naming rights, or other stadia sponsorship deals, at several venues in north America, including Citi Field baseball stadium and the new Yankee Stadium in New York. Elsewhere, Pepsi brands sponsor NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, snowboarder Hannah Teter, and American sports stars Eli Manning and Michael Jordan.

Good to see us being linked with Strootman, i have heard we have looked at him numerous times this season.

Great player (from what i have seen). Not saying i have seen a hell of a lot of him, but that what i have seen i would say he fits the bill, strong on the ball and can pick a killer pass. Chips in with a few goals too.

Im sure Shappy will back me up on that, im sure its Shappy who really rates this guy. Apologies if i am wrong.

MUFC_DEVIL

Believable11 Unbelievable1

Nah your right it is me. Lol. This guy has it all, him and Cleverley in a midfield two would be awesome and very creative, add Pogba to that in a midfield three and then in a season or two we'll have a world class midfield. I don't agree with the mirror saying he's a replacement for Keane as tackling is possibly his weakest area but that can be improved. It's his vision and passing that are his best attributes. I think he's a great player but I don't think he's the replacement for Keane. If we sign Strootman then we could bring in Claudio Yacob on a free to give us a real defensive option in midfield then our midfield would look very strong.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Another plus for strootman is that he is left-footed.. a scarce resource for us post giggs.. Benoit

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say he is more of a replacement for Fletcher. He may even be a replacement for Pogba if he is to leave? Would prefer to have both in the team mind. Next season's midfield wouldn't look too shabby with Cleverley, Scholes, Strootman, Pogba, Carrick, Anderson & Petrucci in the squad. Buying a player this cheap for midfield and retaining Pogba would enable us to spend a decent amount on someone like Hazard. It would be nice to take two of Liverpool's targets in Clyne and Strootman too.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergy has said he expects to have fletcher back for the start of the season could start training next month

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny the way ppl genuinely think Liverpool are going to compete with us and the other top clubs for signings like Strootman.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fletcher is 28, he has a very serious illness that makes it very difficult to put on weight. I think it will be a miracle if we get Fletcher back even close to his normal self.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I agree with you...i can't see Fletcher recovering from his illness and i don't think that we will see him play for United again.
Fletcher was never my favorite player but his comittment and effort was fantastic.

Morning gents,

Page hasn't been updated so I imagine this post will be similar to plenty others today so apologise, but I read this morning we're in for Kevin Strootman for £15m! Now I'm not gonna claim I know loads about him but I know there's a few regulars on here who have mentioned him and have good things to say about him so in the past I have youtubed him and he looks decent, so my question is would we be happy with this? Obviously people's "teams" for next year they put on here, none have included him! From what I've seen and what people have said about him, I think it could be decent! Dare I say a midfield of Strootman and Sneijder next year?

Ports

Believable2 Unbelievable7

No thanks re Sneijder - think we had a lucky escape there as he doesn't appear to be the player he once was.

Agree0 Disagree0

You just spoilt your post with those last 4 words ; )

Strootman must be a good shout though taking into account his age, quality and the fact that we could get him for less than Ł20m

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will take more than 15m for Strootman, I think he's worth 20-25m of anyone money at today's inflated prices. The idea of WS coming to OT is as likely as him having a curly perm and being fit.

saw barca vs bilbao yesterday and i was impressed by martinez and muniain.martinez had a good game against messi was unlucky to concede the penalty.muniain also showed some nice touches after coming on as a sub.
martinez can be a great buy for us and muniain can be
a cheaper and good signing rather than sneijder or modric.what do u think ed? {Ed002's Note - Manchester City are probably looking to replace Nigel De Jong in the summer and Javi Garcia and Javi Martinez were the two players they are looking at. I was told a while back that Inter Milan may make a bid for Javi if they decide not to take Juraj Kucka from co-owners Genoa. I am not convinced that Bilboa will want to sell the player any time soon, and if they do they will want 40M euro with Barcelona and Real Madrid being possible destinations. Garcia has signed a new deal at Benfica so I imagine Martinez will become a serious target for Manchester City. Muniain was touted around the clubs on behalf of Bilbao - and the two clubs in England that were approached were Chelsea and Manchester United. The asking price was 40M euros. They won't get it. I don't think clubs would risk half of that on a player who is young and has had some off field issues. Roma interest is still there but perhaps an eventual move to Barcelona beckons.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Why go for martinez when we have Jones, Give Jones another 2 years and he will be a better player then Martinez ever will be!

Jones could be a great player , martinez is.

Options in midfield;

Modric -: Still believe he's the perfect player for is in midfield, i'd much rather we spent £25+ million on him than this Gaitan)

Javi Martinez -: Already better than Carrick and longterm has amazing potential to be a similar type of player to Xavi/Alonso.

Yann M'Vila :- Didier Deschamps says he could be better than Vieira. Definetly has the potential.

Christian Eriksen :- Decent player although relatively unproven but worth a look.

Eden Hazard :- I don't think Hazard is a CM. If he is coming in I would anticipate Nani leaving.

Javi Garcia :- Linked with some top clubs he's a talent would do a job in EPL.

Lass Diarra :- Continuesly linked with a return to EPL, could do worse.

Mario Gotze :- For me, the dream signing! Would be awesome and is a typical United signing but highly unlikely.

Thiago :- Great little player and I think could flourish at United with his opportunities at Barca limited.

Chiek Tiote :- Excellent engine and the kind of player we are lacking since Keano.

Riccardo Montolivo :- Out of contract in the summer and has an eye for a pass, would improve our options.

Daniele De Rossi :- Linked with City, likely to remain at Roma but what a class signing he would be.

Obviously we couldn't sign all of them but I think these are without doubt the sort of players we should be looking at over the summer, what you think guys? I would gladly settle for Javi Martinez and Modric, although Gotze would be a spectacular signing! {Ed002's Note - A couple of comments: Garcia has signed a new contract at Benfica. Goetze is staying at Dortmund and will not be moving this summer. Diarra comes with significant baggage.}

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Martinez and Modric has been my 'dream' CM pairing for us for months now. Imagine them sitting in there with Rooney ahead in the hole, Nani out left, Valencia out right and either Hernandez, Wellbeck or a new Striker up front....would be lethal IMO

Unfortunately those 2 alone could cost Ł60m+ so it's highly unlikely : (

If Pogba was to stay however I'd be happy with just Modric. Could play Carrick & Modric in CM, with Pogba phased into Carrick's position over time. Cleverly would still have a big role to play with rotation

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I think gotze has just signed a contract extension making him the highest paid player at the club so cant see him leaving anytime soon
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Christian Eriksen :- Decent player although relatively unproven but worth a look.
