Anderson's out with a hamstring injury. MUTV just confirmed it. Looks like he might be out for at least 2-3 weeks. Gutted!

Another not so great perfomance. But importantly we got the three points. Good to see Rooney score again. A much improved Young, but the first half defending was terrible. Hope for a much improved performance next week for the derby.

I think Young was v. good today although some of his final balls went wayward. Instrumental in the start of the second goal and put Anderson through. Shame Anderson is injured. Jon

Very much my thoughts. Gutted for Ando, out for 2-3 weeks.
PeeBoaiy

Agree0 Disagree0

If we defend like that next week we will get battered!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good news is we are creating and scoring goals. I think the team could defend better as a whole. We need to start putting pressure from the top down to our defence.
Saf phelan and the other coaching staff got to look at our defending from set pieces. Get g.Neville to give us a few lessons on defending.

Yeah great to be scoring. I just wish SAF will drop the non-performing guys. Ferdinand and Anders are just under par

Frankly amateur at times.

We probably need to address two areas from this game to begin with.

There were a few on here who have been saying how good Evans is, well after watching that the clear answer is not good enough, good reserve, that's it. I posted yesterday that when he has had some commanding games against the very top sides we should consider him as good. Well this was Reading, relegation threatened Reading and he was at fault for several goals in the first half and generally looked extremely shaky. We cannot afford to let him to be like this especially in bigger games and hope to win the league. Rafael was unlucky because Smalling should have come on for Evans.

The second was the goalkeeper, frankly Ferguson should have substituted him at halftime , he was a liability and showed exactly why he should be a reserve and that is it. Indecisive , lack of command, if Ferguson can't see that he needs to go and see a well known spectacle provider.

Why was Rooney on the right side of midfield, he had a decent game despite Fergusons tactical decision which was inexplicable. We lacked pace and didn't control the game, again.

At least we saw Ferguson in the technical area but I am not surprised because at times we were amateur in our approach and it was another escape.

One game doesn't define a player mate, Rafael was dreadful too but is he a reserve player?

Hoppy

Agree5 Disagree0

Perhaps you should send your application for SIR Alex Ferguson's place as it seems that you know better than him. We won't be amateur then. By the way the amateur side is 4 points ahead.

Agree2 Disagree0

Red Man, it was Fletcher's fault for the first goal. He stood still and watched his man run off.

Evan was shaky but he played well.

Agree1 Disagree0

Err my mistake 3 points not 4. thanks ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think evans did ok today but no way is he just a reserve player he has had some good games and the either team seemed like they didn't know how to play defense today. Really hate when people just complain about the young players that are progressing well then scream for them to play when they are on the bench. Evans is having a good season and won us a penalty today.

Agree2 Disagree0

Entire* autocorrect strikes again

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the problem was Darren Fletcher. He was too slow, sloppy in possession and very poor in picking a pass as he was intercepted many times. He has no pace, hope he is still gaining match fitness. Both Rafael and Evra were absolutely shocking in defence. I think the reason Rafael was replaced was because of the looming second yellow card. Fergie was clever to protect him. Again my fear is pace with Rio and Vidic (when he comes back) Teams are well aware we now lack pace in central defence. That is why we are being tageted in central defence. We still need a defensive link man who sits in and protects the defenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans has been our best defender over the last 2 seasons with obvious ability. Get a grip man you give united fans a bad name! Rafael came off because he was on a yellow and looking a little volatile, if he picked up a red then things would have been very different.

Dan

Agree2 Disagree1

Evans is still prone to the occasional stinker, like the everton draw last season. But he's still relatively young and it is normal. It doesnt help at all having to play next to a different centre back and in ront of a different goalkeeper every week.
Defenders need stability to up their game. Evans should have a permanent partner in defense and a single goalkeeper behind him.

Mick

Agree2 Disagree0

Evans wasn't great but was Rio even playing ? I bet Evra was happy with Rafaels card as it saved him - Ando was a loss but team selection and subs becoming more and more confusing

Red Man, does the 'Red' mean you're a Liverpool fan? Hard to tell sometimes mate.

StevieK

Agree0 Disagree0

To the poster who mentions Fletcher, you are absolutely right, caught ball watching too often, too static, simply not good enough, never has been and never will be. Some of the team selections at the moment are baffling to say the least, and if the coaches had done their homework, they would have known Readings wingers could be a problem, in which case Smalling should have been on from the start. For me part of the issue with this game is our preparation seemed to be poor, every man and his dog knows Reading look to put high balls in, so our game plan (if we had one) should have been to cut that supply off, but midfield again not covering. Its darn poor, but the management team as a whole need to up their game.

Eric the red.

Agree0 Disagree0

The first goal came about because Evans clearing header was poor, he then let players in to score with headers from 4 yards out and for a six foot plus defender did not command his position against players who are not top level. He is a disaster when he has a bad game, City at home and Everton last season are examples but they are good teams, this was Reading who embarrassed him. I am happy for Evans to be a squad player, no problem with that but he should not be first choice.
Lindegaard lacked command and decisiveness, the criticism of De Gea is about crosses yet Anders was shocking. Then take a look at two incidents that didnt lead to goals, one where it hit his hand and he was statuesque , then he dropped a dolly.
Ferguson should have substituted Lindegaard he was that bad, however having praised him before the game it would have been embarrassing to the manager. Ferguson doesn't like to be wrong or admit it and that is his Achilles heel. The combination of Lindegaard and Evans meant we were lucky to get away with it.
Lastly which other top team would have Lindegaard and Evans as first choice?

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

"Evans has been our best defender over the last 2 seasons with obvious ability" - are you serious? The guy cant defend crosses, corners and gets turned far too often in his own box by strong or clever attackers. If Evans is the future of Man Utds back four we are in trouble. For me this season the coupel of goals he has scored and assisted from corners masks the fact he is a very average defender and certainly not Man Utd quality. Never has been, never will be, a decent reserve defender but a starter, no thanks!
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree1

Was it not also evans that lost his marker for the third goal??

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans is a good defender? Mayb for a mid table team but not utd quality. DDG is head and shoulders above linders. Don't get me wrong I think DDG is abit ropey with crosses but his shot stopping is first class. Fletch just needs game time, he looks rusty but that'll come. Shame ando got injured tho, the lad been first class lately. Gives us abit of zip in midfield. Hope he's back soon

Jones has the energy and power and enough tactical sense to get forward. But his final product needs a little more work. But what's his best position? Right now he's a rotation cb, a mid-fielder against less technical sides, a possible sweeper/attacking center back in a side with central mid-field solidity. he's still young enough to develop but where do people see him ending up?

Sunderland or Everton like most of our "nearly made its"
Pedroknight

Agree0 Disagree3

Jones is goiung to be a fantastic player what ever position he ends up with us prob center back as it is his natural position but could be a power house in the middle ever team in england was in for him for a reason we aint seen the best just little glimpses of it best young defencive talent in england since john terry and Jones can be a better player than jt no doubt katef

Agree2 Disagree1

Jones needs to be centre-back where I think he will excel. I think he will take longer to become a less effective player if continually used in different roles. Lets be honest he should walk into the side BEFORE Ferdinand (too slow), Evans (too not good enough!) and Smalling (will improve).

Halesini {Ed004's Note - ATM Smalling is our best player defensively so I don't see how he should 'walk' into the side before him}

Agree0 Disagree0

I see him as a cb who will play in midfield for a while. SAF is worried that he gets turned to easily for a cb. If he plays in a holding or sweeping mf role he will develop his game a lot technically and tactically.

Ok Fergie says Lindergard has done nothing wrong so it's not fair to take him out. But then he takes Smalling out. What has Smalling done wrong to stay out? I fail to see the logic in this reasoning.

Mick

Believable11 Unbelievable3

He says things like that to validate his terrible decisions. Lindergard is a number 2 keeper nothing more.

Agree4 Disagree0

Don't worry, Lindegaard has dome wrong now.

MPez

Agree2 Disagree0

Lindegaard's in with a shout. He's not moved for any of the goals. People criticise De Gea for not controlling his box on corners, but at least he moves and doesn't just stand there watching the ball float into the box then into the back of the net.

RedDevilGirl

Agree2 Disagree0

I have never liked lindergard as a 1st team keeper, to me he is more like a reserve team keeper, keep faith in DDG already probably the best shot stopper in the league just needs a few improvements and he will be the best in the world. SAF needs to get in a young understudy for DDG if he deems ben amos not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ask him.. What ddg has done wrong to drop him in first place?
His reasonings r gone pathetic now a days..
Ask him what giggs has done to even get selected in 1st 11 ahead of other young players?
Rodio17

Agree3 Disagree0

Keepers can play a lot more games consecutively because they don't do much running about. Fergie has to be more careful with outfield players - there's a lot of games in three tourneys still to be played this season, and Smalling's not long back from injury - try and use your noggin's lads, rather than just looking reasons to get at Fergie.

StevieK

Agree1 Disagree0

Couldnt agree more ddg much better linderguard (sorry for spelling) is terrible should but the fergie statue in net proberly do more

Ed002; any idea if the story about us having an agreement of sorts with Lewandowski is true?

Also, is Sneijder a genuine target for January if his contract situation isn't resolved?

Thanks,

rpc {Ed002's Note - There is no agreement in place between Dortmund and any other club at this time.

PSG and Fenerbhace are the two most likely destinations for Sneijder at this time. Anzhi and Spartak Moscow retain an interest in him but chances of a move to Russia seem to be near zero. I don't know of any remaining interest from Manchester United. There is a very slim chance that he could make a surprise move somewhere else and discussions have been held with a club on a different continent, but I would supect that is something for the future.}

HI good morninG !
Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is on the verge of signing for Manchester United. Sir Alex Fergusonbelieves £12 million (€14.7m) will be enough to land the Poland international, whose contract expires at the end of next season.

Eds, do you know of any interest in Willian? Just trying to think of flexible forward players who can play across the forwad line and he fits the bill. I know that Chelsea & City have shown interest, but I imagine that the price would be fairly modest?

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - Chelsea, Manchester City, Spurs and Juventus have all shown an interest in Willian. Last January Chelsea backed off from buying the player as Shakhtar were looking for 35M euros for the player.

A hush hush agreement between player and club is more likely. We will see.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

There were rumours that it was agrees this past summer, like syd said sssshhhhh.
Hummels and bender or Strootman would be good also.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather have Hummels. Feel sorry for Hernandez this surely spells the end for him. Hopefully Welbeck goes instead because we really don't have room for all of them.

Dan

Agree2 Disagree0

Doesn't necessarily spell the end for Hernandez, we look like we are probably going to play 2 forwards more often. SAF likes to have at least 4 top strikers, welbeck and Rooney can play deeper as can van Persie, but with henriquez aswell, it may end up a bit crowded.
Interesting times ahead though.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

We should keep hold of hernandez at all costs, i agree dan welbeck should be moved on if the rumours about lewandowski are true

Tactiallyinept

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's hope not. Hernandez is a super player. And very different in style from the other strikers we've got. So he must stay.
