Do people think tha Ozil coming in is all that outrageous to hope for? For me, he is the perfect signing due to his versatility, quality and age. The ed has said offers around £25 million may be considered for him, if this is the case and he is unhappy we would give it a go as we have enquired about him for the last 2 years at least but been knocked back. To be honest, Ozil would suit us better than any of Hazard, Gaitan etc and I hope we go for him! With any luck, Madrid will want to do a bit of work on their side, maybe Bale will move there which could mean Ronaldo plays more centrally. This would probably mean that one of Di Maria or Ozil would be available. Its more possible than we think.

Red5evil19

Believable14 Unbelievable13

I just can't see him being available , he starts all the big games and is a top draw player. They'd be daft to let him go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Madrid have done stupid things in the past though letting quality go, Sneijder, van der Vaart, Huntelaar (who did have a good record), even Robinho was allowed to leave. You may say they are not in the same class as Ozil, true. But they were nevertheless big names. You never know what Madrid will do.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love ozil but i cant see him leaving madrid, he said last month he loves it at madrid, his played over 40 games for madrid this season and even ronaldo said his the main reason his scored so many goals.
does anyone know where these rumours came from
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

If Madrid sign neymar, ozil will Definetly be available i cannot see him getting in over alonso Ronaldo benzema neymar di Maria, ect.

Anon

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope so ozil is the a genius. if he had a role that corresponded that of his for germany at club level, ie he is the main man. he would become a world beater.

in my opinion of course

Sounds good, Hopefully he signs

Can united still expand old trafford? I thot that after the last expansion there was no more room to expand

Eds/syd/ anyone

Believable12 Unbelievable2

It can and will one day be expanded. The plans show a 95,000 seater.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

You might find an answer a little further down the page, this question was asked a few days ago.
General concencus seems to be that United are buying up land around Old Trafford at the moment with a view to possibly extending.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everytime I see Old Trafford I wonder how it could be expanded.. The river is really close to the grounds and I dont know how they would fit in an extra 10000+ seats?

Cooper

Agree0 Disagree0

The south stand is the intended area of extension, so it would be closer to the size of the SAF stand. The main hurdles are the houses running parallel as well as a major train line. If these can be resolved, there is every chance it will go ahead.

I'd expect time and cost to be heavily contributing factors in the final decision.

TM

Agree0 Disagree0

My understanding is that there are 8 remaining houses on which United are undertaking negotiations.

The cost to build the South stand will be high and in the time of their ownership the Glazers are yet to spend on the ground. The work done previously was after they took over but the money was already there from the plc.

I would guess that the share sale in August, should it go ahead , would be the best time to realise sufficient funds to pay our debts, buy players and improve the ground.

I can go back to the early seventies looking at the ground and when I go now I never fail to look back and see how far it has come. I hope the South stand is built but then we need to have the players on the pitch to fill it.

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

It wouldn't be impossible to build a bridge over the river.

Diving or players going down too easily or players over-doing it has become a fresh debate again ever since Young won the two penalties in recent weeks. There are also many instances where a player have not won penalty where he manage to stay balanced.
A penalty is a penalty whether a player falls or stays balanced and IMO in Young's case, it was a fault. its just that he went down too easily or over did it.
These days with players (from every team) diving around to win a favour, My question is-
1. Should technology be allowed to intervene (if required) when it comes to faults inside the D-box?
2. Should a player accused of diving, on a fault supposedly by the last defender, be red-carded instead?

Your opinions are welcome.
Al!

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Even with technology it's sometimes difficult to measure an amount of contact.
How many replays have we all seen of contentious issues that don't really give a clearer picture.
It's a difficult thing to police imo.
Andy Carroll got booked for diving against Newcastle recently where there was clearly no contact. But the Ashley Young incidents clearly show some contact, but how can you assess in a replay whether "some contact" is enough contact? or not enough contact.
Unless a player clearly dives with absolutely no contact and makes a plain attempt to cheat and claim foul, i think it's difficult to curb "going down easy" (under some contact, a la Young).
When some players do that, i.e. Gerrard, Rooney, they are being clever. When others do it they are guilty of simulation.
Footballs dark side unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

Contact is a contact no matter how little or big the impact is. i also dont disagree with the limitations in the use of technology. but if it is used (at refrees discretion to use it), atleast it will prevent in making grave decisions.

Agree0 Disagree0

If contact is contact, then why all the fuss about Young?
Most of the country seem to bo of the opinion that Young dived...even tho video evidence clearly shows contact. But not enough to warrant him going down, apparently.
Also, technology should be used to avoid all this "at the referee's discretion" or the "open to interpretation" farce.
Technology should offer an entirely neutral verdict....not something to be used when the man in black feels like it. It should be out of the referees hands.

Nick Coopack, a manutd.com journalist based at Old Trafford has just tweeted that SAF has told MUTV that we have agreed a deal with Pogba's agent and now it is "just up to the boy" if he stays or not?!

Looks like we will find out Pogba's future pretty soon, fingers crossed.

Apologise if this has already been reported.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

I hope he doesn't sign,he nothin but but a money grabbing whore..he hasn't proved a thing at old Trafford and he's goin and demanding ridicules wages..he's bound to fall flat on his face, for being greedy.if he was that good he'd be playing week in week out..with the weakest center midfield I've seen at utd for years and he can't break into it,he's a joke...it's so much better for him to prove himself first and then he can be rewarded with a wage increase..otherwise hel rest on his laurels and up being sold in the future anyway...for being lack lister ....

I would just like to wish Red News a happy 25th birthday today. We are blessed at our club to have 4 excellent fanzines. Red news has constantly kept supporters up to date with everything United and also tried to educate those new to the club in what it means to be United. Fanzine culture unfortunately is suffering in this country and not many are surviving so my hat goes off to Barney and the boys who give us such an excellent service. I AM KLOOT

So what if somebody came here as a stepping stone to Spain, if we got 3 quality years of of them surely there will be more up and coming players who would sign in the future

Believable3 Unbelievable3

That's how I feel. Sign Hazard for £30m or whatever, get a few good years out of him then use him in a deal to bring Ronaldo back or just straight cash if that's not possible, by then there would be another up and coming talent.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

So now our ambition should be to be a stepping stone to bigger and better things?
If you sign for United, there's a good chance you'll get bought by Madrid in a few years time....!
Perhaps we could ask Madrid who they would like us to develop for them next, they could give us a shopping list.

Agree0 Disagree0

MUFC is in my opinion the biggest and best club in the world, any player who states before they even move that it'd be a stepping stone to a different club makes me angry. I couldn't give a flying sea sheet if we didn't sign Hazard after those comments he made. Where is the passion for clubs these days, its all about business.. so sad! Also, sydney why would Ronaldo coming back in a few years be a good idea? He'll be 30 and half the man he once was while taking up a hefty amount of wages! Stupidity written all over it sorry to say..

I think that Nuri Sahin would be a great addition for the team. He can play a marvelous role in our MID, I don't know if he'd available for tranfer but i think he'd be a cheap option for the club!

My dream signings: Falcao, Martinez(Sahin), Hazard(Muniain), Cissoko and/or Modric.

Not a rumour, more an observation. who would take rodwell in the summer? I know he's sufferd with injuries of late, but lets not forget how good the lad could be, he's only 20 and I reckon after all these injuries we could get him for around 10 million max, could end up being a steal! what do you all think?

Believable5 Unbelievable20

I think if i see Rodwell's name on this site one more time I am going to lose any faith I have left in humanity.

I've always rated him and have always been criticised for doing so.

Like the look of the kid he can play the holding player in midfeild and his equally at home as a centre back.just gets too many niggling injuries

Appears to have hit a wall in terms of progress and development.
Perhaps injury has played a part in that but i just don't think he's good enough.
Darron Gibson MKII we don't need.

Anyone think we should go for agbonlahor? Aston Villa only want 12m and I think he is a decent player and would probably pick us over Sunderland (who are fumigate to want him) It could be another Ashley Young situation where he comes over to us and improves a lot

Almost as bad as my Sony Erikkson!

I've never been impressed with Agbonlahor, similarly to Theo Walcott, Agbonlahor has a limited range to his game.
Would have thought £12mil could get someone with better game than him. Imo.

I will still say this again.. that sahin is the player perfect for us. Yes, he had injuries this year, But that guy can spray the ball beautiful and tackle as well. He is complete package, and he can boss the midfield(like he did with Dortmund against team like Bayern) and I dont think, it will cause us much, if man utd put a cheecky bid for him(10-15M). I am so confident that he is perfect for us, will even go the length of saying that that guy will play key player against Bayern if real decides to play him.
Other option like Martinez will cost us to much.

Tactical Man utd

Believable17 Unbelievable2

I agree he'd be a great option for us. I also think Strootman and Moutinho would also be good options for a ball playing midfielder.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

He would definatley cost us more than 10-15 mil pal, real havent used him properley yet because of his injury, and they will want him for when alonso starts to decline
duggo

Agree0 Disagree0

RM bought Sahin last summer, tied it up before the summer window even opened so they obviously wanted him for future plans. Do you really think that a team like RM who don't really need money will let Sahin go for £10-15 million? I think he was bought in as a replacement for when Xabi Alonso retires so i think your idea is flawed. No doubting his ability but doubting the likelihood of any transfer to MUFC! Martinez on the other hand will want a move to a bigger club and many other big teams around the world already have a similar sort of player already in their ranks. Realistically are main competition for his signature - Manchester City. Maybe Barcelona but i thought they were content with Sergio 'rich tea' Busquets.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman is the man for me, he's got everything you need to be a premier league midfielder.
He's quick, strong, a good tackler, good passer and can drive a team forward like he does for PSV plus i reckon he wouldn't cost more than 20 million.
Dutch player always settle better as the english league suits there play better.
If Fergie goes for him he'd better do it before the EURO'S or his price will double because i reckon he's gonna be one of the big players in that comp.
Eden Hazard would do nicely on top of the Strootman signing....i know im being greedy now!

Simmo

Strootman is fluent in English too like most Dutch folk.

Bad news about Pogba, out for rest of season, ankle ligament damage.

Believable20 Unbelievable0

But would he pass a medical with someone else with such an injury and even if he could would they want to take the risk?

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought the other, say if Pogba got a bad injury would he all of a sudden snap UTDs contract offer. His injury or the severity may make it easier for us to persuade him to re-sign

Mad Hatter

Agree0 Disagree0

He would pass a medical with or without an ankle injury. Don't forget a team wouldn't be paying £30m for him, he is free so will take the risk.

Ins
Ozil 22m
Raul Free
Hazard 20m
Martinez 20m

Out
Owen free
Berbatov 7m
Scholes retired
Macheda 2.5m
Bebe 3m

Believable5 Unbelievable32

That would be fantastic, could happen but i think valuations are a little off,we would be unbelievable with those players in our squad, joeyored

Scholes will play on for another year yet

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sign those four players I will go to Old Trafford wearinf nothing but a mankini.....Never gonna happen....Too expensive and United never spend that kind of money...

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit unrealistic

Agree0 Disagree0

Martinez is like 30 ish mill and hazard who I dnt want anywhere near this club would be 30-35

There some proper nuggets on this page. you think utd are going to sign them. don't be daft we wont get any of them players mentioned. well buy Gaitan Clyne and that be it just like last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are some right nuggets on here who cant leave their name, joeyored

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love them all to come in but its not gonna be that cheap

Agree0 Disagree0

Another dreamer posts his wishlist.
Some people are going to be awfully disappointed this summer i think.
In many ways i imagine.

Scholes will play for another season as has been pointed out.
Owen will more than likely stay. Is still full of goals despite his age/fragility. And not costing us a fortune in wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we were to sign those 4, and clyne keep fabio and pogba and also promote petrucci we could be back to our devastating best next season..

can not see it happening...total cost would be about £80m and 5 new players on the wage ball......we could sell/release about 10 however so whilst not recouping much in instant cash we would be saving on the wages.

we can dream I suppose.....

team would look great:

_________ De Gea

Raf _ Smalling _ Vidic _ Fabio

________ Martinez

_______ Ozil __ Clev's

_ Nani ____ Rooney __ Hazard

eds, any truth in the ozil rumours this morning?

JK92 {Ed002's Note - I don't see Oezil necessarily being available in the summer but Liverpool and Manchester United may well be interested if he is - but Champions League qualification being achieved may be a pre-requisite for any move he makes. I am sure that there would be plenty of interest from elsewhere, not least Inter Milan who bid against Madrid to buy him originally, and Juventus. Whilst he had what was seen as a very good season last year, this season has been patchy at best with a lot of time on the bench. Real Madrid may listen to offers in the region of 25M euros or so.}
