37mil deal meant to be happening for Mata. hmmm.

Believable25 Unbelievable35

20 Jan 2014 22:51:08
In the Telegraph Tomorrow saying we're close to Mata on a 37 million pound deal. Any truth? Can't see it myself alough Mourinho did say he sees us out of the title race so he might sell if the price is right?

Believable16 Unbelievable21

It's laughable being linked with things like this, Jose says he's staying and even if he did go it would be abroad, paper takes that as a 37 million deal to us

Agree0 Disagree0

Would fit with José's Machiavellian streak - gets rid of a player who doesn't fit with how he wants to play to a now non-rival who still has to play both Citeh and Arsenal.

Great player but another No. 10, if we want him why didn't we go for Ozil? Still would fire up the troops and help if Rooney still wants out in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

We did go for Ozil.

Agree1 Disagree2

Did we go for Ozil? Thought he was hoping we would, but we never showed? Moyse said, great player but not really what we need with Rooney and Kags already here.

Agree1 Disagree1

To the best of my knowledge we did not move for Ozil. There was talk in a few papers that we put in an offer at the very last minute (about thirty minutes before deadline) but I don't see that being likely. If we'd seriously wanted Ozil we would have signed him.

A bid is being finalised for Ross Barkley of Everton. It is believed that we will offer 20 million or 10 million plus young to seal what could be a season changing transfer.

Believable8 Unbelievable55

That sounds about right, another offer that won't come close to signing anyone

Agree0 Disagree0

Pfff £20M for Barkley wouldn't even buy his left leg! Plus he's out for 6 weeks with a broken toe!

Agree2 Disagree1

The only part of this I find believable is that the persons who own our would believe that could get him for that low amount.

Agree1 Disagree0

Gibbo, if Barkley does leave then it will likely be for around around double that. I think there's very little chance of him leaving in January anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

Season changing transfer, what sat at home injured haha

just seen on ssn that united & a madrid are joint fav to sign mata

would love to see happin but can't see chelsea letting him join us

Believable14 Unbelievable18

He will hardly get enough game time at Madrid and might as well stay at Chelsea. Would love to se him come our way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its athletico madrid Not real so I think utd have less chance of signing him

Read on a web site another bid of 35 million for fabregas going in after he got took off early the other day and was not happy, wishful thinking if you ask me

Believable1 Unbelievable41

Read this too but didn't think it worth discussing. Fabregas very recently came out saying how much he was loving his time at Barcelona. Being taken off with fifteen minutes remaining in one game isn't going to change that - especially not to the extent where he wants to leave.

Agree2 Disagree0

Please not this again.

Apparently our number one target for summer is Cavani, a brilliant signing but would very much be a luxury. It could mean a transfer to a 4-3-3 if we sign two midfielders and Cavani and sold Rooney. Perhaps Cavani right, RVP striker and Januzaj on the left.

Believable4 Unbelievable32

Or maybe there isn't interest in Cavani?

Agree7 Disagree0

Agreed Sydney, that was my cousin off of my phone haha.

Ed02; I'm hearing that Juventus are now favourites to sign William Carvalho. With them looking to sign Guarin as well (although things seemed to have gone quiet on this front - apparently due to the Inter fans being unhappy with the proposed swap) - could this have any bearing on Vidal and Pogba's availability either in January or next summer?

Believable5 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Vidal from MU and a deal may be possible. There is interest from elsewhere in Pogba. Neither will be cheap.}

I would never get my hopes up, but buying someone as good as Vidal would make a real statement to certain fractions of the MU support. It would put a lot of minds at ease.

Agree1 Disagree0

It looks like the deal is back on. There might be something to this as what do they need guar in forgiven they already have a great group of midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, is the main obstacle still the fee? Have talks advanced at all since you mentioned us being interested in Vidal a couple of weeks ago or so?

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - THe summer is probably more likely right now.}

Cheers Ed. Your input is always very much appreciated.

When you say 'possible' are we talking in the summer or during the January window?

Re Pogba; I know PSG were strongly linked earlier in the window. Is PSG's move for Cabaye down to the fact that they are unable to sign Pogba during the January window or would their interest carry over to the summer even if they sign Cabaye in January?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely right now. Pogba won't move before the summer. Cabaye will likely move in January.}

Freddy guarin swap deal with Juventus is off after inter fans protested.

Hi Eds, first time poster long time reader here. What are the chances of reus a player we've been strongly linked with going to spurs as has been suggested for £30 million? Would be an absolute steal in my opinion.

JJT

Believable7 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Very little chance he will move to either club}

20 Jan 2014 18:41:43
HMMM

It looks like everyone is starting to make some noise in the transfer market and we are awfully quite. Calm before the storm or calm before we finish with a whimper:)

What does everyone make of the Cavani story going around. Does anyone know where this is coming from?

If any truth I say Rooney or RVP going.

Eds is there any interest from us in Cavani?

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed004's Note - None}

A lot of places are suggesting that SAF has rung Laurent Blanc to ask whether Cavani may be available in the summer. Not sure that I buy it though.

Agree0 Disagree2

However a front 3 of Rooney Rvp cavani would certainly push us towards top 4 again

Agree1 Disagree0

I am so hoping for a big rabbit to be pulled out of the hat.

I always have the feeling that Cavani is a bit mercenary in his approach, however definitely a top marque signing.

any interest in pjanic ed? depressing days as a united fan these are. need some rumours to get us motivated

Believable3 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - There may well be interest but I am pretty sure no approach has been made to Roma at this time.}

20 Jan 2014 13:29:19
Hi eds, I just heard Inter and Juve could be embroiled in a bizarre swap deal, involving Freddy Guarin and Marko Vucinic. Surely if Juve bring in another CM then one has to go?

Im just wondering could we have possibly made any further in roads on Vidal/Marchisio/Pogba?

Thanks

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed.}

20 Jan 2014 18:06:08
But surely Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal and Guadrin can't fit in one team ed? I have a feeling Vidal or Mata could happen

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Im not getting my hopes up}

I know Pirlo is in the twilight of his career, but Juve have such an array of midfield talent it's almost disgusting.

Fingers crossed we can pry Vidal away from them. I would hold more hope of that happening than any of their other midfielders.

Agree1 Disagree0

Pogba is doing great in an average league, do you really think he would cut it in the prem, if so why wouldn't he of got his chance? ronaldo did

Apparently vucinic - Guarin swap may be off now! I hope not.

Hi Ed002, while there's talk of transfers in, what about Jesse Lingard's contract. is there a new deal imminent for him since his current contract expires in summer?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know, sorry.}

20 Jan 2014 17:22:35
ed sorry if you have already dealt with this

but can you see united buying a midfielder in january now that they have let anderson go on loan

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed004's Note - No}

Thanks ed

Why?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2014 16:42:01
Apparently Fredy Guarin on his way to Juve for a medical in swap for Vucinic. Now why would Juve want or need Guarin? Hmm.

Sorry but the broken record is back, there can be no doubt injuries have been cruel to us this season, all teams get injuries but ours seem to be selective in choosing our best players this season.
Just looking subjectively (not easy when you are passionate about something) our luck has been poor too. Undoubtedly Moyes has made mistakes and so have to many of our players. Going over the past will not help we are where we are now.

A few of us posted in the summer, we needed about 8 players and we pretty much classed as nuts, I'll plead guilty to that but we still need 8 players. Some will come from our youth Januzaj so down to 7. The longer we take to get started on the rebuild the longer it will take obviously. Top 4, which I've pretty much given up on, should be our minimum expectation even on a bad year. We have no divine right to be top of the table nor to have a great team. We are however, by far, the richest football club in Britain and should invest in our team accordingly.

Ed002 says we were never in for Koke, it was some other team and I believe her, for example his release clause was £17m (If they played hardball its still just under £30m) his release clause is now £50m which imo is a marker for selling him in the summer but not for 17m.

We desperately need to start the rebuild now and its my contention we need to buy the right players at almost any price. Or we risk no top 4 next year too.

Ed002 a question if I may In your, very informative post, you mentioned we were in for Vidal (my fav non Man U player) any updates and what is or was the issue in getting him?

Believable8 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - I think it will be very difficult to get Vidal. But there is interest.}

How good would he be in the EPL? Serie A is slower than me, I watched him and pogba the other week and they barely broke a sweat, i'd be going all out for Mata and Modric in jan, proven quality in the prem and a quick fix aswell as ones for the future

Agree0 Disagree1

Thankyou

Agree0 Disagree0

I too think Modric would be a coup.

First time posting with two bits of good news from a source who was at one o the meetings firstly a meeting regarding mata took place last night and if we meet the asking price we can speak to him, secondly the whole back room staff got summoned to a meeting by the glazers telling them they have performed good enough and at a minimum they expect league cup + top 4 or there out

Believable7 Unbelievable26

Mata will be a good addition but will not sort our problems out

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm sure if the editor wasn't on the road, he would be telling us these rumours are baseless. I like Mata, but if Kagawa doesn't fit Moyes' style, would Mata?

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder if we could Loan him for the rest of the season. We do not play Chelsea again and it would help them if we could beat Arsenal and City. I can dream and clutch at a few straws.

How the mighty fall - plotting to scrap for 4th spot!

Agree0 Disagree0

We can only hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where would we play Mata?

He is a number 10 and we all know that's where Kagawa should be playing but can't get a look in.
When Rooney is fit he plays there regardless of who we sign.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jan 2014 17:20:18
Just back room staff. In Moyes we trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where would we play Mata? Number 10 is Wayne but we're not sure of keeping him, so bed Mata in now and let Wayne know we have options. would take a little bit of control of of him. As long as Kagawa plays in the middle, he'll be happy and what's wrong with 2 players for one position? Its what Jose does!

Reports that Zouma will move to Chelski for £11m. Another example of how there's no value in the market.

Believable33 Unbelievable2

We looked at Zouma under SAF. Perhaps Moyes isn't a fan? I haven't seen much of him, but hear he's a good player. We clearly want Garay to replace Rio, but he could be sold in the next couple of days too if MU don't shift their arses.

Agree0 Disagree1

A future star no doubt, he always was said to have more talent than Varane and look where he is now? Gutted to have missed out on Varane all those years ago.
