The agent of a player who I have not previously considered for our left hand side has come out and said he would consider a move due to lack of playing time. The said player is Shaqiri - someone who we had previous interest in. He is an excellent player in his own right, he played very well against us for Basel and has looked good for Bayern from what little I have seen. I can't see him being that expensive and I don't see him doing this for a new deal as I think he has a good contract as it stands. Interesting never the less.

Believable13 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Shaqiri is one of the players Bayern are looking to sell and they are seriously pissed with him right now. Fiorentina have a declared interest with Napoli and Juventus having made tentative enquiries. I would not rule Liverpool out of declaring interest as well.}

Why are they annoyed with him ed? And do we have an interest? The press seem to think we are and that we were when SAF was in charge before Shaqiri moved to Bayern.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant and I am not aware of interest.}

Moyes was supposedly interested in him and Xhaka when they were both at Basel but they didn't fancy Everton, both should jump at the chance to play for us. I have thought for some time they are both maybe targets, they tick all the boxes and will not be involved in the world cup.

Agree0 Disagree1

Not so sure on Xhaka but I think Shaqiri would be a fantastic back up choice to Reus of Griezmann.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would this be the same Shaqiri who had mocked United after that Basel game saying the we lacked focus and we underestimated them. Also that we were gone even before they could consider swapping the shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Amit, what he said was completely right. We did underestimate them and we did disappear that evening very quickly. Nothing wrong in stating the truth.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha to be fair we lost to Basel, it's obvious that we were lacking focus and underestimating them. I've always been a big fan of Shaqiri, would be a great player to play on the right wing, if like Fresh said, we can get either Rues or Griezmann for the left side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald, is Shaqiri not a left sided player? I think it would be Shaqiri instead of Reus or Griezmann.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, I think he's played on the left for Bayern but he can play on the left, through the middle or on the right. Fairly sure he played on the right for Basel and usually plays on the right for Switzerland. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though as i'm not dead certain.

eD 002 I see you are about or were. Is there any interest in Cavani? I'd have thought Costa was more a Moyes player and Moyes has praised him in the past.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Cavani from Chelsea and Manchester United but a move to Old Trafford is not going to happen. Cavani is a second choice striker pick for Real Madrid, so if they don't get their first choice the might turn to him. It is not entirely out of the question that Manchester City could turn to Cavani if circumstances force the matter. PSG don't want to sell him and if Ibrahimovic were to leave I suspect he will stay in Paris.

Chelsea, Dortmund and Monaco have a declared interest in Diego Costa. Arsenal are keeping a watching brief but I suspect a deal can be done with Chelsea.}

Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

As good as he is we don't need him with the current strikers we have RvP and Rooney are on his level and Wilson may be even better than all of them in a few seasons if he reaches his potential.

Agree0 Disagree0

No disrespect Ed..............

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - When did I say this? I did say that Manchester United had not made an approach to Mata in December when asked, and I did say when Manchester United did make an approach. I also explained that Chelsea would not have any issue selling to Manchester United is an acceptable offer was made and the player wished to leave. Don't bother reading anything I write from now on if all you are going to do is try and take a dig at me for it. I am happy to answer questions but have no time whatsoever for any glifnards like you just looking for reasons to have a dig.

We have much more pressing concerns than strikers. Left-wing, central defence, left-back and central midfield all need strengthening first.

Morning edd is there any truth behind the rumoured carvalho bid?
Or is it just still enquiries?
cheers

Believable7 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - As you know, Manchester United cannot force to sell the player for his €45M release clause but Sporting have insisted that is the minimum price he would be sold for. There is interest in him from a number of clubs still and there have been a recent approaches by Atletico Madrid and Inter. Sporting would ideally like to keep him a year or two more. The asking price will likely beyond what Arsenal would want to pay and I suspect Manchester United would also baulk at that price. Atletico and Inter would look for a different solution financially. Perhaps Chelsea or Manchester City would stump up the asking price?

Any other "bid" will likely fall on deaf ears - at least for now.}

I think we want Kroos/Gundogan and Carvalho. We need a fast, powerful defensive midfielder and also a creative midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anyone know when his contract expires? The days where big clubs could push smaller one' s into making sales are gone. Too much inflation. Europe's top feeder team's are now wealthy and less desperate.
Portuguese teams seem to be refusing to sell at reasonable prices until 2 years remain on players deals, - unless they get astronomic bids. A strategy that is amazingly working well for them thanks to french and russian sides. I wouldn't be surprised if sporting are thinking this way about their players too. Ironically it seems that Britan is probably the best place to recruit nowadays. We could have easily got Dembele or Wanyama for 15m.
