The latest information that I have been given is that United are still exploring options as far as signing a central midfield player goes, and they will not by any means be rushed into making a signing.
I could repeat rumours about Sneijder or Modric, but from what I'm told it is likely that a younger option will be signed because there is simply no value in the market for an established player, and that Giggs will be utilized totally as a central player this campaign. I wasn't given any ideas as to who could be signed, it could be Gotze, M'Vila or Pastore but that would be pure speculation from me and more than likely way wide of the mark.
Ed - any idea's of young midfielder's that are plausible targets for United?

Well, if we were supposed to match Barca at once, i'd pref Sneijder or Modric (not lightly). But if we think about the years to come, i'd like Ganso or Pastore, or even Taarabt Sissoko maybe (Mouassa)

Sneijder is on his way (deal done 90%), and I am very pleased, will make us a much stronger side against top midfield's.

The cost of the transfer is 26 million with variable cost of 11.5 million. The player is due in Barcelona this weekend.

FC Barcelona and Udinese have reach agreement on the transfer of Alexis S nchez. The deal is for 5 years.

So much for Udinese demanding £40m, as soon as a player says to his club that he will sign for a certain club and that club only, the club are left helpless.

I can't help but feel if we'd gone in with a higher bid we would have signed him. It seems that there was a point in the saga where he decided that he only wanted to sign for Barcelona - but it seems to me as though that happened AFTER we had ruled ourselves out of any sort of deal.
Either way I'm gutted that we were not able to sign him as he is one of the best young players anywhere on the planet. I suppose I should just be glad that he didn't sign for one of our domestic rivals

Just heard that Diouf might be going on loan to Glasgow Rangers, If this is true then that would be a piece of shrewd work by Fergie, he would gain European experience and most likely score a lot of goals in that league which would give him so much confidence, I just cant see him playing a lot of games for us with the strikers we have, there is definitely 5 in front of him. I heard Blackpool last night, and just got told Rangers so whats happening.

This would be an ideal loan move for Diouf to gain C/L expierience but when it comes to league expierience Scotland is a weak league to play in.... HERBIE

A mate of mine seems to think we are looking to buy Sneijder AND Cambiasso? He seems to think SAF is trying to sign E.C. on a 3 or 4 yr contract by which time Pogba will be matured and ready to step up.... Inter looking for 60m for both, UTD looking to pay 45 for both, hence the long speculation....? I know UTD and Inter have been in contact, but not really much movement at all....
Anyone heard this or is it tosh and wishful thinking?
Wouldnt be a bad deal, but doesn't seem right to me...
Thoughts?

I expect Pogba will be a regular as early as during the 2012/13 season, Carrick will be the stop gap in the meantime. Cambiasso is older than Carrick mate, there is no way United would offer a 3-4 year contract to a 31 year old.
Sneijder is being targeted by the looks of things.

Pretty much what I thought Sydney, 3/4 year contract would certainly been strange and against UTD's policy... would be a nice 'stop gap' if he could be picked up for 10-15mil, but highly unlikely....

If you talk about stop gaps for 2 to 3 years then i would rather take Parker, he is established in the league, a good strong player and at 7 to 8 million a lot better value IMO.... HERBIE

Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Brazil sensation Ganso.
The Sao Paulo midfielder was thought to be set for a move to AC Milan, but La Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that the Premier League champions and French side Paris Saint-Germain are weighing up bids.
AC Milan had reportedly agreed a fee worth just over £26million for the Brazilian international, but they now face late competition for the 21-year-old.
PSG could bid significantly more as they are backed by Qatar Sports Investments. But the alleged interest from Old Trafford is a huge shock and could be a sign that Sir Alex Ferguson is thinking of a back-up plan in case his move for Wesley Sneijder falls through.

Ganso would be a gret signing more than sneijder because he is young and powerful
Agree0

Ganso has stated on more than one occasion that he will not be leaving Brazil until after the world club cup, so any move would have to be in january.
On Milans interest, i've said a few times before that they are having foreign player quota problems, so any move would rely on them shipping out players first, although milan is his prefered destination

Ganso in comparison to Sneijder? Pah
I'd rather have Gibson than Ganso and I think Carrick looks to be a better passer of the ball than him - that's saying something Sneijder anyday - hopefully soon

Think Ganso & Pogba would make a fantastic midfield for the future. They've both got the height & skill to terrorise opponents.

Lets not get too carried away by last nights result. The first half was close, the second was just an exhibition match. Lets face it Obertan played the way he does when he is playing for the reserves and looks like a player. It was a million miles away from the kind of opposition we will face in the Premiership.
I listened to the dutch guy on Talk Sport last night who was saying it was all about Rooney remaining the top earner at Old Trafford and that is what is holding the deal up. It seems he really wants to come but is not happy about having his wages dropped to be less than Rooney.
I don't want to come out as double standards by supporting Ravel when I spend my time going on about the club having high standards but what i will tell you is that Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all shown interest if he is released. Maybe that is his problem. RAINFISHTROMBONE

You don't half talk some s**t. Did you even listen to the TalkSport interview? Not once did he say that it was down to Rooney wanting to remain the top earner that is holding up the deal. He stated that Sneijder is prepared to take a pay cut and will probably end up on a similar sort of wage to Rooney.

Sorry lads, but if Sneijder won't join because he wants more cash than Rooney, then lets not bother with the greedy man. Make a £30m move for Modric and offer him 135k a week. Maybe staying in London won't be such an issue for him then. Triple the lads wages.

RAINFISH, Sydney!
As I said yesterday, I've heard Sneijder personal terms are agreed. They were also agreed at a level that wouldn't be any issue for Rooney. It is the fee with Inter that is the issue. This appears to be backed up by the noises coming from both clubs - they're playing tough with each other.
In terms of Ravel - I think the best place for him to grow is Old Trafford but he is definitely a problem child. Does anyone think sending him to Darren Ferguson at Peterborough on loan for a few months (and breaking him away from his circle of friends) would help?
DarkLard08
Agree0

Sneijder's personal terms are being assisted by Nike. WHEN he signs his United salary will be less than Rooney's, but his Nike contract will be revised to cover the loss from his Inter contract. Nike have made it clear to all parties that they want this transfer to take place.

I was told by someone who claims to know inside info, he is a retired Scout and he is an Inter fan. He says that Personal terms have been agreed by the player and the club, United have made their bid which hasn't been accepted or rejected, but Inter are waiting for a replacement to bring in before they agree to a sale. I know that talks are no longer taking place too.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? It's a bad thing that Inter want Pastore because that means that any deal for Sneijder won't happen til the very end of the window, it may not happen at all if Inter cannot replace him.
Sydney!

Personally I think its a bad thing if Inter are going for Pastore because that is the player we should be signing AHEAD of Sneider

Darklord08,
Genuinely i agree that ravel should be shipped out on loan however with his kind of quality i would liek him to be loaned to wigan. They are always good to our loanees. He'll get playing time and Prem playing time at that. Wigan are a tough team and always play with passion (fear of relegation? lol) He'll experience what it means to fight for the win as the whole team will be at it.
The only issue is like you said he needs to be removed from his current friend group.

If, as alleged, Nike are putting their financial backing to the Sneijder deal, could this be linked to the up and coming renewal of their sponsorship deal with United? Considering all of the flack that Etihad have recieved over the c**y stadium naming rights, this move would allow Nike to contribute a similar sized sponsorship deal but release a more publicly acceptable figure (lower or equal to), thus reducing the chance of negative publicity.
Agree0
Disagree0
Sydney! - Either way, it's not Sneijder's personal terms that appear to be an issue. If the figure I heard is true, it is within United's means.
Monk - Wigan would be a good choice because Martinez seems to be very capable indeed and lets his players express themselves on the pitch. I guess the issue is it's close enough he wouldn't have to move.
Anons - I am 99% sure the Nike paying part of Sneijder's salary thing is utter rubbish. First, contrary to popular misconception, their profit from additional shirt sales probably wouldn't pay for this. Second, it would test the FA's third party ownership rules and FFP regulations, and United won't take that risk as we - more than any other club - get hammered for that sort of breach. Third, and most important, it could cause Nike problems in other sponsorship deals they have - why would clubs stick with Nike if they're helping the opposition?

Rooney was in one of the sunday papers (think it was the mirror) saying that he had heard the rumors but it was untrue , he said he would have no problem with anyone coming into the club on more money and that he was happy with his situation.
SYD on the nike thing i agree no chance they are paying any part of his wage but they might of offered him a much improved sponsership deal if he moves to us as brand Sneijder is probably worth a lot more if he is playing for man united (how many more young united fans would suddenly want the same boots as sneijder etc...)

His problem is that he is very lucky to even be part of the Utd set up still and no matter how much help the lad is given he is still trouble. Anyone that gives our great club a bad reputation should be let go. And if other clubs want him then let them have the Carp we have to deal with with him. Despite his talent we could never rely on him to be a regular first team player with his attitude. More to the point would we buy a player with these problems and associations? Simple answer"Would we ****" So get shut.
Agree0

The Sneijder deal is done. We are just doing what Inter have asked us to do and that is to play dumb until they have arranged the replacement. Be patient. He is our player and will be announced as soon as Pastore completes his move to Inter. In addition this Transfer is not partly funded by Nike. Just be patient and ignore the gutter press and know that at this present time Sneijders wife's PA is in the country setting up meetings for Mrs S with Agencys re her modelling/promotional work so all is sorted but you may have to wait a couple more weeks before the official announcement comes but it will.
