Fergie, pls sign up Junior Hoilett!
For free!

Believable22 Unbelievable16

He wont be on a free hes under 24 so we will have to pay compensation such as training fees we could end up paying couple million in compensation i think maybe the eds will be able to clarify but i wud still sign him regardless hes fantastic {Ed002's Note - There would indeed be compensation and a signing on fee - but not much in the big scheme of things. There is no interest right now though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. We should definitely make an offer for a good Canadian lad. He is still young, has lots of potential, and would certainly be a serviceable squad player - better than having the likes of Park and an over-the-top Giggs slotting in behind Nani and Valencia. I doubt you could find a better deal than him, because the compensation would be far less than the transfer fee you would pay for anyone with a similar skill set to Hoilett

Do you think that we will go for Modric in the summer? Players that fit the system are more likely than a change in system i think and Mldric fits the bill.

Believable14 Unbelievable11

Double bid for Modric and Bale on the cards, they get Evra and Berbatov in return

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric would be perfect for our midfield. He'll cost a bomb though...........

United Till I Die 1987

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric?No no no,I don't think Modric would be anywhere near the player we need,especially for the money Spurs are looking for!he is hugely overrated,doesn't score enough goals and doesn't have many assists.Doesnt bring enough to the table.Hes inconsistant.he would be a really bad move for utd.i reckon he'd flop!

Does anyone smell a rat about this whole Sir Alex watching Hazard thing. Could it be a smoke screen? Arry has said that we are interested in Hazard but when has he ever mentioned who else is apparently in for his targets? Could he be helping his old pal and making everyone look right when sir Alex is about to move left? Could sir Alex have been there to watch someone else? Just a thought.

Shappy {Ed002's Note - There are no smoke screens.}

Believable3 Unbelievable15

Ed002 - You predicted United may throw their hat into the ring, do you know of any confirmed interest in Hazard yet?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I understand that there is interest from Manchester United. But there is no offer, no deal, nothing tangible at all at this time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he was there to watch someone else, i would be surprised if it was for hazard, don't think he needs looking at he's been on scene to long now

Agree0 Disagree0

Already done a post about this a few days ago ^^

Agree0 Disagree0

Shappy you been watching too much Harry Potter

Ozwald

I wouldn't know i can't read ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

'Arry' always mentions who is in for his targets and who his targets are, it's how he works. There's no smoke screen there though, United interested as are alot of clubs..................we'll see.

I can see everyone going on n on abt / martinez.. but how different is he frm Jones? Jones is 2, maybe 3 yrs younger and has plenty of time to develop the skills he lacks to martinez today. I think at 23 he ll be a far better player than martinez and having two similar players will hamper the team. i think we shud go in for munain or hazard and damiao. Btw, wat do u guys feel about sigurdsson(spelling) ?

Believable13 Unbelievable12

I agree, for the money martinez is very similar to jones, jones is english and got so much potential. i think fergie rates jones, he wont consider martinez, hazard is awesome, goetze is too, ozil would be immense in a united shirt.

More chance of signing Wilshere than Martinez. Now im dreaming him and clev's

That last reply just sounds dirty to me

sorry for the cut and paste

Liverpool chief Damien Comolli is having Athletic Bilbao pair Iker Muniain and Javi Martinez watched leading up to the summer market.

The midfield pair have attracted long-term interest from Comolli, who is now ready to table offers for the talented duo following their performances in the Europa League against Manchester United.

Ironically, both players are also interesting Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but he has priorities elsewhere in terms of squad building.

The Sun on Sunday says Liverpool are now drawing up plans to lure Muniain and Martinez to Anfield before the European Championships.

HOW ON EARTH CAN OUR PRIORITIES BE ELSEWHERE - MARTINEZ WOULD MAKE THIS TEAM !!

Another well thought through article before publishing..

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Ox,

Do you seriously think them 2 players would go to Liverpool when they have so many options elsewhere?

Other than the fact Liverpool couldn't afford them it is ridiculous to think they would go their.

That being the main point of the article in that paper would suggest the part about United is a load of rubbish as well. How does Mr. Sunday Sun journalist know United's targets, and if he did, don't you think that would be the main story?

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol... your right GDS but the article only suggest they are being watched by pool.. nothing regarding either players views on this or playing for a mid table team.

both will have a choice of the biggest clubs in europe if AB did decide to sell and pool are not one of those at present.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to be honest...i am really worried that if we do win the Premiership then the problems that we have had all year in Midfield will be overlooked by Fergie.
Especially with Scholes (apparantly) signing on for another year. Fletcher will be back by then and if Pogba stays i can hear the excuses now, that we don't need anyone else and we have the quality.
I seriously think that people are getting carried away on here with the players that were looking at. I don't think that there will be as many players coming in as you all expect. I seriously hope im wrong because we have now fallen so far behind in Europe it's frightnening.
Im sure that Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool will all strengthen in the summer as well.
Just a thought!

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Let me think.....champions league with united or europa league with the mickey mousers.....mmmmm tricky

Agree0 Disagree0

No Name

I wasn't suggesting that players would rather join Liverfool over Man United.
I was just a general thought on Man United.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

'Simmo'

We won the league last season and strengthened in the summer. We would have added a midfielder too if we had a bit of luck. I wouldn't worry we will strengthen in the summer whether we win or lose the league. The manager isn't stupid.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool are sh;t end of conversation.

Agree0 Disagree0

We know they are s**t but it hasn't stopped people going to these teams before.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I hope so mate...i just have the nagging thought that he may say he is happy with what he's got in the midfield area.
We are desperate for that creative player and a proper holding player.
Who would you suggest getting rid of?

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

The manager wasn't pleased with what he had this season mate, he said there were a few players he wanted to bring in but they were unavailable at that time. Even Gill said he wanted to bring a marquee midfielder into the club during the summer. The manager will still want to strengthen the midfield for next season too, especially given the shock he has had this season. It has shown how desperate we have been by Cleverley being rushed back from injury two weeks early, Rooney was also tried in midfield for a week or two and we brought Scholes out of retirement. The manager knows midfield is our weakest area, he said that himself during the summer. I think he is waiting for someone to become available personally. But with Fletcher's issues, Gibson sold and Park more than likely being let go, we are short in midfield even with Pogba. So I think we will see a top attacking midfielder and maybe a bargain midfielder if Fletcher doesn't return. Someone like Elm. You should trust the manager made, he won't let us down. I think after missing out on a few midfielders during the summer, the manager looked at Cleverley & Anderson preseason and thought that we may just be okay, but they have been injured since. The Manager will not let this happen again.

Completley agree with sydny if we are all sat on r computers and smart phones talking about it im fairly sure SAF realise the same i meen he does no wot hes on with
JakethedonnyRED

Agree0 Disagree0

He does and his record speaks for itself... but while he keeps picking Park... (NO WINS when he plays) it does leave a little dealt in my mind I am sad to say.

oxred.

Agree0 Disagree0

U got to put yourselfs in fergies position he didnt want to splash out money last minute on a midfielder. How would any1 see that we would loose cleverley fletcher and anderson in centre midfield in the first few games of the season. No rafael and fabio till december, vidic out for the whole season. Considering the injuries we had we should happy where we are, any other team they would not handle it. city complain when kompany was suspended struggled if dey didnt have him for the whole season like vidic dey would be pants defensively. Loose 3 midfielders in one go arguably our best 3 midfielders at the time and for city they would be even worse. But i think after our displays in europe we need midfielders who can boss and quicken the tempo in midfield but i woudnt sell any1. Look at all barca and madrid easily have 6 solid midfielders. Barca: xavi iniesta busquests thiago fabregas and mascherano(when hes not needed in defense). Im not saying we gonna get a midfielder over the summer like barca's. but i do not want the injuries we had in december and have to play carrick in defense and valencia RB with park and giggs in CM.

Mancini and city have suddenly changed their stance on Tevez. I expect the fans will be chanting his name very shortly. He'll probably be off in the summer after playing a few games to increase his value for city and his attractiveness to another side. Here's hoping that he's going to upset a few people within city between now and then as he can't help himself, training ground bust-up with Balotelli etc etc (he does it every where he goes, Boca, corinthians, west ham, us and now city, leaving a bitter stench along the way). But with all their wealth they could'nt maintain the stance that they took originally, what a shallow lot,he blatantly refused to play for his club and wondered why there was no takers. I could'nt see it happening at many clubs with a good standing in the game and historic value's.

Just look at Rooney. I AM KLOOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah imagine if a player came out and said, "United dosen't match my ambition. Idon't want to sign a new contract". He would never play for the club ever again!.

Oh wait...

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney never refused to play for United that is the difference. K

Agree0 Disagree0

No he held the club to ransom until he got the money he wanted. No love for the club just his bank account. If we hadn't paid him what he wanted he would be wearing a City shirt now. No different from Tevez. I AM KLOOT

Agree0 Disagree0

@I AM KLOOT - rooney did not receive a higher salary after questioning the ambition of united. he accepted the deal that was proposed to him before his outburst.which is somewhere in the region of 160k basic pay per week. Therefore rooney didnt sign for extra money like everybody thinks he did.
Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

I just love the fact that City now have to play him just to keep him in the shop window. Good approach to winning a title? NO!

MDJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I was embarrassed over the Rooney saga but of course there is a difference between Rooney angling for a new deal and reassurances and Tevez who refused to play, has repeatedly stated he doesn't want to be there and whose manager stated would never play for the club again.
Dingle

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah comparing Rooney and Tevez is bull to be honest. Rooney's reason was apparently our lack of ambition. Well who hasnt at some point recently questioned our transfer policy? I know I wonder how much of our potential transfer budget gets wasted on yankee debts. So who could blame him for questioning it? Tevez is a waste of space. Someone needs to remind him how privileged he is to play football for a living! He is never happy and his reasons for not being happy never tie up. I would like City to have stuck him in the reserves til his contract was up unless someone stumped the cash up. If he refused to play then breach of contract, refuse to pay him.
Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney's situation was like a wake up call to united. I mean after selling Ronaldo and Tevez, the team was weaker and no money was being spent to make it stronger. If Rooney only cared about his bank account he could have gone to real madrid, barca whenever he wanted. But he's been at United since the age of 18.

Ed002 - Got a question for you if you are about. Angelo Henriquez turns 18 next month. Is it possible he can join United on loan? Do you need a work permit for a loan?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Yes you do. They can take him on a training only basis before then and apply under for a work permit the exceptional talent rule or they could buy him and leave hime where he is for a while or even loan him out.}

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Ed002 - Thanks for your reply. When Leao turned 18 we took him on a training only basis, does it mean he can only play for the youth and reserves? If so how long for?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I am not sure of the time limitations but it may be driven by transfer windows in the same way as loans are.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We took rafael leao on loan last year as he turned 18 without a problem,he played competitive football,we have a couple more at desportivo coming over soon who have turned 18,not sure if they will come here or to twente,gladstony is there but he has a euro passport so could feasibly turn uo here.
Ste73 {Ed002's Note - If Leao has been playing for the first team then he has a work permit then.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Leao has been playing for the reserves Ed, not the first team. I find it very hard to imagine Leao getting a work permit as I have watched him and he is no exceptional talent.

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - to answer the question about timings, a player signed on loan can convert to a permanent deal at any time. The initial loan has to be in a transfer window though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001 - We signed Rafael Leao this time last year (31 March 2011) on loan. That is out of the window so what's the crack? Is there some sort of loophole or are they allowed to play reserves, but not for the first team? It's also funny that the other Brazilians are rumoured to be arriving this month too, within the week I heard. What is it with March? Is that when their season ends?

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - he was signed on a training only contract Syd, they are different. Like you said he was not eligible to actually play for the first team, or he would not have been able to be signed outside a window. Not sure why they are arriving in March, I don't have the dates to hand on this comp to check, sorry.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The league runs from may to december the same year playing 38 matches

Agree0 Disagree0

So it's their preseason, makes sense.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously i mean playing competitively for the reserves and academy last season,if we brought henriquez over it would b in reserve.
Ste73

Agree0 Disagree0

Leao is definately on loan not training only,the belgian kid we messed up the signing of is on training only,he can play friendlies not competitive matches for the academy,competitive football is at all levels not just at first team level.
Ste73 {Ed002's Note - It would be a breach of all sorts of rules if that were the case. Having checked I am informed he was originally taken on a taining contract but he status now is not known.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What an interesting discussion! Cheers Ed's and others

Unfortunately there is nothing I can add just wanted to say this is one of the more informative threads I have ever read on here
