What do people make of Varela moving to RM on a season-long loan with option to buy for €5m?
Will be interesting to see if Di Maria plays any part of the match. If he doesn't then it could be a big sign.

Didn't you say he wasn't in the squad earlier Syd?

That wasn't me mate. Someone did say that he will not be in the squad, but I think he will be. But perhaps not used during the game. It will be interesting to see.

Where does it say that?

Does anyone else find it strange that our players are picking up injuries at an alarming rate. Hope Van Gaal ain't flogging them to death.Depending what you read or listen too the Di Maria frame is taking the same rout as all the other big names we are tracking. Let's face it, we are not the draw we once were, being out of champions league ain't helped nor as the fact that Fergie and Gill have left. Did not like Paul Scholes recent comments about our current team, but starting to believe what he says. Maybe we have had our time as a dominant team, and we may be well off the title for a few years. Here's hoping the Glaziers and Woodentop deliver on their promises . We Will See.

Not a great shock. Orthodox right back that unlikely to fit LVG model.

Di Maria isn't in the squad is he?
Agree0

Scholes was an amazing player, but nearly every public comment he's made over the last few months makes me thankful he kept his thoughts to himself as a player. Also makes me wonder whether he kept his mouth shut on Fergies orders.
Apart from one fair comment about Wilshere, he has talked some utter sh**e.

ODavis, I agree, also with the rumours that Rafael is also on his way out. It's wingbacks all the way with LvG, which means the 3412 is not going away anytime soon.

Pardoe, I don't know mate.

Scholes hasn't said anything different than what a lot of united fans think!

Worth signing him then.
Wasn't he home sick?

Given the 3-4-1-2 and need for players to be adaptable it's possible that Blind, Cuardardo types will be brought in. Be interesting to see if Hernandez now stays, with Wellbeck making way

Scholes is spot on.

Doesn't look like Di Maria is in the squad.

RM allegedly turned down offer for Di Maria of €48 from Barcelona. He's a good player but never worth that much!

From a website:
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Wilfried Zaha available for loan.

If he as it's a bad decision he's gunna bring a load Dutch players in like he did at barca concerning
Agree0

Would be a good move wellbeck needs regular games up front but he won't get them here unless rvp or rooney are injured zaha needs games to progress hopefully with a manager who can sort out his attitude(if that is true) and cleverly could do with building up his confidence again but personally I don't think he will ever be good enough for anything other then a little used squad player here

A Chilean newspaper has a full story about our "final" offer of $53mil + Chicharito for Vidal. They also write about Vidal's knee condition.
Believable8
Unbelievable32
It's a good offer if true. Probably equates to around £44m.
Agree0

Not this again!
Vidal isn't coming to United. he is 2014's Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara, Sneijder, Ronaldinho!
Utd should move for Nigel De Jong (cheap, has worked with Van Gaal, has lived in Manchester) he wouldn't need much if any time to settle in.
Then get a centre back but don't waste time with Hummels who is not coming. go and get the next Hummels. Antoni Rudiger, Joel Matip, Toby Alderweireld are all quality young centre backs and could develop into world class players.
Finally promote James Wilson in the 1st team squad to replace the departing Welbeck. with lots of hard work and some luck he could turn into an excellent and reliable home grown striker.

£32M plus Hernandez we've offered, Juve want £40M, let's pay it and get him in. If Hernandez and Welbeck are surplus to requirements then who comes in, Falcao?

22 Aug 2014 14:50:06
De Jong? I would rather play Paddy Crerand than him.

When have juventus publicly come out and said to the press that they want 40m for vidal!?!?

It's not going to happen. Ever

Surely 32 + Hernandez who they are interested in equals the 40m they where looking for?
And we've all got more chance of of sh1tting in the queens handbag than falcao coming to us!!

Eds any info in reported Arsenal and Spurs interest in Danny Welbeck? Reports suggest LVG told him he is not in his plans. Personally I can't see him being sold if Chicha also leaves. Or is it that the club are willing to get some money back from a player who will have higher value in the market?
Believable4
Unbelievable1
{Ed002's Note - His agent is hawking him around a number of English clubs - it would be speculative to say that there is interest right now.}
Welbeck leaving could be a very real indication of Di Maria being close. Welbeck is only being kept for his pace and workrate in attack and Di Maria would solve that.
If Chicharito leaves too and Wilson is promoted, I can see us moving to a 4-3-3 with just one striker playing.
Agree2

I cannot see us moving to a 433 whether we buy Di Maria or not. It makes no sense at all.
Agree0
Disagree1
Ed is it true that lvg has told welbeck he can leave
Agree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what the player has been told. I know what his agent is doing.}
Would be surprised if he went, thought he added something during the USA trip. Good reserve and quick.
Maybe he wants first team football so as not to waste his career.

Selling Welbeck would make little sense if the manager was aiming to play a 433. Welbeck can play anywhere in the front three and would suit that formation perfectly. It also means only one of Rooney, Van Persie & Mata can play at one time. So it's not going to happen anytime soon. It may happen during games if we are going to take a CB off and bring on another attacking player, but I think the 3412 is here for a long time.

Or the manger may think welbeck isn't good enough to play any of them positions

Do we have a good chance with Di Maria?

{Ed002's Note - Measured how?}
So from what I have understood so far, it is us and PSG mainly trying to sign Di Maria. If PSG are unable to sell anyone to fund their move can we think of ourselves as in with a good chance? (Thanks for your patience here Ed).

King, even if it was only us interested in ADM, I would still not get my hopes up. It could happen, but MU will struggle to agree a deal with the amount of money involved in this transfer. Di Maria and another decent midfielder would improve us somewhat. So fingers crossed.

Thanks Syd. I've just read Eds comments on a slightly earlier post to my original. Sounds like his wage demands are fairly ridiculous, however ADMs apparent transfer request to RM gives me reason to remain optimistic for the time being.

Ed002 Is it just United and PSG that have interest in Di Maria? I'm hoping that there Bayern aren't as they seeem to be linked with all our targets
Believable5
Unbelievable2
{Ed002's Note - No, there is interest from Italy and from Monaco but Jorge Mendes is in danger of pricing him out of the market with some pretty outrageous wage demands. PSG are stuck until they can move players on. Manchester City have probably dropped what interest they had.}
22 Aug 2014 12:38:21
Which club from Italy Ed002? I'm surprised any of the clubs there have the cash that Madrid are demanding for the player?
Also, do you expect a resolution any time soon? Or will it be a drawn out affair?
I'm assuming United need to wrap it up as soon as possible rather than wait and allow PSG or Monaco to move in.
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed002's Note - (a) Juventus - they have been interested all summer. (b) I can't answer questions about timing.}
Juventus being interested mus make any negotiations for Vidal more complicated. Putting information gathered here together you would have to think if we bought Vidal it would give Juventus money to pay for Di Maria. Unless they decide to sell Pogba. The plot thickens.
