Not sure if we're still interested (if we were at any point) but heard tonight that Chelsea have offered £4 million for Luke Shaw, the young LB at Southampton. That will probably be rejected though but we need to get a move on if we do want him!

Just because most of us on here think he would make a good signing doesn't mean the club thinks the same.

Do any of the Ed's know with us getting drawn against Real Madrid, has it changed Fergie's mind to strengthening the team in January now? {Ed002's Note - It will make no difference at all.}

Believable4 Unbelievable23

Yes, we're now considering a bid for Messi.

Ur mocking the question rather than avoiding the gulf in quality between the utd mid and madrid one

ronaldo ozil modric khedira di maria alonso

valencia cleverley carrick andersson kagawa young

Agree0 Disagree0

On paper they do look better, but lets remember that it is a team game and not a one man show!
Fergie will start mind games soon and pep his team and give the conferdence to go in to the game as future champions and not as lost the game already before they started.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only part of their team in which they are really stronger is in midfield. Except Ronaldo their attack is inferior to ours and their defence is letting rubbishloads of goals too this season.

And to be honest even in central midfield they do not look that strong this season. If we go with our 4 2 3 1 with Cleverley and Carrick in midfield we should be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Real Madrid midfield is inconsistent on their day goodbut sometimes are useless. They are also a set of individuals who play for themselfs not like united who play for the team. The real team may be more technically gifted but they are not better on paper.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergie goes into every competition hoping to win it, so whether we play a top team in the 2nd round or in the semi/final makes no difference to his transfer policy IMO. We may not see our team matching up to theirs on paper but our manager always has faith in his squad. If he wasnt planning on doing anything in January, that won't change just because we've drawn Real in the 2nd round.

With one of the Eds suggesting we made a bid for witsel in the summer, it shows Fergie is looking at the midfield and strootman seems perfect of what ive read and seen of him, with him in the team i reckon we will have a chance in Madrid other than alonso, khedira, modric, essien, ozil over powering old scholes and pointless carrick

Believable10 Unbelievable21

I don't think Carrick's ''pointless.'' He'll play an important part against Real Madrid.

Agree0 Disagree1

Have to let you know no name that we will not be signing anyone to help out and i for one dont beleave we need anyone new just now the pointless Carrick as you describe him no name has been playing the deep lying midfield position as good as any player in europe that plays that positon Alonso included you cant have been watching us lately we have got better and better with our perfomances and Michael is the unsung hero but not by me or the Sir Alex who always plays him, top of the league and starting to play the best football in years and you want changes get real Kate.f

Agree1 Disagree1

We've been poor so i don't think you know what your chatting about tbh. ^^^ were at the top of the league because of our strikers.

Agree2 Disagree0

We would not be top of the league without Carrick and thats a fact he has played very well of late and not just the strikers winning it for us yer we have the best strike force in the prem but we have a good midfield and Carrick for me is as good as we can get for his position all these young powerfull mids everyone is talking about your Strootmans Wanyamas are not in his league of passing and controling from the back there not as good as Carrick at it there no deep lying playmakers , Alonso of real and Busquets of Barca are on his level but there aint many others who could do what Carrick does all this rubbish that he only passes side ways and backwards he has made more forward passes than anyone else in the prem Fergie who i would just like to say defo knows better than you or i on how good his players are rates Carrick as one of the best deep lying playmakers around and thats good enough for me in ten weeks time if this team stays fit i cant see us getting beat by real or anyone else no matter how strong the oppostion and the danger man for madrid is not Alonso Khedira Modric Ozil or Essien its Ronadlo so it shows who knows whats what no name. Katef

Agree0 Disagree2

Carrick is good but is he world class like madrids four midfielders? i dont think so, if people honestly believe carrick is our unsung hero and our best midfielder we have then we deffiently have some problems in the middle. Carrick is 31, scholes is 38, fletcher will never be the same again :( anderson too injury prone as proven he starts amazing then one injury and hes out for like 5 months, cleverley i actually like cleverley but tbh he is too inconsistent, hes been good in like 4 matches so we deffintly do need to get a new midfeilder because from what im counting we only really have one and thats cleverley

Agree1 Disagree0

We have great strikers, but someone has to win and give them the ball. Carrick is our best midfielder by a country mile, unless wazza plays there. He starts many of our good moves from deep, as well, as breaking up the other teams attacks with timely interceptions. I think Wanyama playing next to him would be awsome, but SAF says he's not buying this winter. So in Spain I'd play,, Carrick, Jones and Anderson as a three, With Wazza and Kagawa behind RVP. There is also the option of playing Evens in midfield ahead of Jones. We mustn't play the old guard and keep Cleverley on the bench, maybe giving him a game back in Manchester. However, I'm not the biggest fan of Tom.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree1

I'd say benzema is going to be the bigger threat tbh and carrick is useless, forever losing his man and the ball. how can you say we have a good midfield look at all the top clubs around europe none of them would touch the likes of carrick, fletcher and cleverly, especially giggs ands scholes who are gonna be getting their free bus passes soon. Kagawa and anderson are the only exceptions but need to stay fit. We need a world class box 2 box midfielder and another creative one i.e Isco. Even our wide plaers have been poor so i don't know what you've been watching this season! and yeah Fergie does know more than me but don't you think his judgement is being clouded with him feeling sentimental and needing to play his past it legends.

Keyz

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say Sir Alex has great faith in his players and his judgment is sound the likes of giggs and scholes are only being used for small parts the younger players that are going to be there replacments are already here in Daehli , Januzaj , Pereira , are all going to be top top perfomers and there is another four or five others that will be top players for us like Barmby and Wilson. Carrick is a very good player for what he does and if you cant do the simple things right in his postion you will get found out more so now than years gone by so when we win the league and maybe europe as well will you still be calling for sweeping changes probably but dont let big names in small leagues cloud your judgment like i said before Sir Alex knows better than anyone what he has to do to win and if ya dont have faith in the manager by now you never will Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

People who think carrick is poor need to look more into it

Ed002, the CL draw against Real Madrid has led to more speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future, so do you know if he is likely to move on from RM in the near future? And if so, any likelihood of him returning to us? Thanks,

#ags {Ed002's Note - The CL draw has nothing to do with Ronaldo's future. If he comes up for sale there is one offer I am aware of on the table and perhaps other clubs would be interested including Manchester United - but there is no indication of a return to Manchester United at this time.}

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Thanks Ed. Any chance you could reveal who the offer on the table is from?

#ags {Ed002's Note - PSG.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but who are the people that think because RM were drawn against us in the CL that has any effect whatsoever on his future and potential transfer?

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because Ronaldo is coming back to play us everyone is hoping he will return to us next season it aint going to happen he is going to sign a new contact and stay at madrid that is what will happen and we should look to the future we have youth players coming through that for me are the best we have had come through since scholes giggs and beckham but there aint just three world class players in the making there is six or seven so Hopfully one of them can go on to be of Ronaldos calibre maybe even two or three of them now that is something to hope and dream about and know that it is going to happen one day is great. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald, I didn't mean that by us playing against RM Ronaldo would be more/less likely to join, but the press had been making a lot of the fact he was coming back to OT and SAF had been talking about him and I just wondered if there was any chance that he might return. And thanks Ed002.

Kate - Can I borrow your rose tinted specs please. I doubt more than a couple will be regular United First teamers - Henrique is one maybe.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

I have no doubt that there is a wave of world class players coming through the youth system at this present time ,Wilson Will Kean .Barmby, januzaj,Daehli,Pereira are all going to be outstanding and its not just my rose tinted opinon all the people at manu tv talk about these boys with the same level of expectation as i do i think giggs and scholes will still be here next season to play bit parts and then these will either go out on loan or join the first team and yes i think Henriques will be a knocking on the door of first team football in a year or two in my opinon this is the best lot we have had come through our system period but i suppose only time will tell i hope i am right as it would be so nice to do what barca and ajax have been doing and producing top top players in bulk. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Katef
with all due respect mutv are going to talk up the prospects of our youth system, they are a little bit on the biased side. I follow the youth sides and I think we will be lucky if 2 of them end up as regulars and maybe another 2 squad players. None will turn out as good as Ronaldo. I hope im wrong though.

snakey

Agree0 Disagree0

To katef and one or two others. Our reserve team has one, maybe two who look like they could make first team regulars, and no more. The team is full of players who are ok at the level they are playing, and given SAF's policy of playing Scholes and Giggs until they are in wheel-chairs, and playing a clearly under-par Fletcher, then our second string players will not get enough playing time and will continue to seek pastures new, take yesterdays game against Swansea, Vidic had played 30 minutes ish in lord knows how long, and Evans is coming back from injury, so they are both in,and Rio and Smalling are kicking their heels at home. That in anyone's book is is ridiculous. I digress. The facts are still, we don't have a defensive mid-field player anywhere in our club, who can step up to be outstanding at first-team level. The guys who are in the reserves ain't good enough, and never will be. This is not a problem that just MUFC have. I do the rounds as regards scouting for good young talent, (not for Man Utd unfortunately) and believe me, it is getting more and more difficult, there is just not a lot around, even at grass roots level. The Ronaldos of this world don't come along very often, and we saw him grace our stage for 6 ish years. What bothers me is the Managers idea that the team does not need strengthening, when to virtually every pair of eyes who watch, can see that it does. For periods against Swansea yesterday, our midfield was given the run around by their midfield, and that was how the goal came, players out of position (Evra and Young AGAIN!!!) and midfielders who weren't covering the back four. This team is screaming out for a top midfield player, and pronto, but what topped it for me yesterday was when SAF said he had never heard of Michu and neither had the scouting staff!!!!! In the EPL at the moment every game is vital, and if you are not sure about your young players abilities, then you wouldn't take the risk, even against Swansea, we are top, yes and by 4 points, but we need reinforcements and maybe a club shake-up, because from where I am sitting, everyone just semms a little too comfortable.
Happy Xmas to all,
Eric
