Personally, I feel that Paul Scholes will not be replaced. Just like when Roy Keane left, we took time for a player to fill the gap. Owen Hargreaves was bought, he's no Roy but he does one hell of a job.

Anyway, whoever they bring in to take up the AM role will arive this summer. Scholes will stay on for one more year to help the new arrive settle because the pressure would simply be too much for anyone arriving. So expect someone this summer.

Mario Gotze, I would love to see him come in and improve, fantastic player.

Mario G??tze is very upcoming player, and is perfect candidate to replace Scholas.
He is more talented then OZIL ofcourse.
But as you said i don't think he will suite our playing formation that is 4-4-2, still if SAF gets him he might mold him to play in that formation.

He would be certainly a good signing.
I hope he comes to united.
20M will be enough to land him at OT.

Just thinking could this Sanchez rumour be a smokescreen for a Bale bid?

I have been told twice now in the space of 5 days by two extremely credible sources, that SAF feels he's finally found his attacking midfielder (i.e. Scholes Replacement).

Mario Gotze

By all accounts SAF will has put Gotze on HIGH PRIORITY. Now, this does not mean at all that he will move for the player in Jan. . or even this Summer. What I am saying is that SAF will wait until he feels it's the right time to move in, unless of course another club makes an official enquiry, then SAF will have to react. My opinion is that if Scholes can last another season, SAF will wait another year and continue watching this lad develop.

United really has to do something special to get this guy. He plays for the current leaders of the Bundesliga and is one of their most important players with only being 18 years.

He is identified as the biggest talent in Germany (more talented than ?ñzil or other talented players from the good current crop of german footballers) for a long time.

In terms of style he plays in a similar way like Nasri, just in case some people don't know him. Currently he plays on the wings for Dortmund but is also able to play behind a striker or in front of 2 more defensive minded cm's in central midfield.

I don't think he is suited for central midfield in a 4-4-2 because he has a quite thin frame. But in the more physical Bundesliga he didn't have to much problems and is also quite good in winning the ball despite his slight frame.

That said i don't think he will leave Dortmund in the next few years. He is a modest person and a Dortmund fan himself. He would also cost at least 20m.

Please don't shoot the messenger but if the 36 million pound midfielder is to be believed in my opinion it can only be wesley sneider. regardless of what contract hes signed at inter and obviously theres more to rafas sacking is he not happy with sanchez and the young dutch lad being signed with the sneider money . only a theory anyone think its a goer.

Dear mr mh
here's an alternative. ngiak thinks that ben Amos deserves a spot in the main squad. even if van der sar leaves, kuszczak may not and fight for a spot with lindergaard.
ngiak thinks that Amos is actually a goid and mature gk with no real glaring weaknesses. he should be given his chance soon. .

Question to Mr.ED ,
Do you think Lindegaard will be our no.1
As SAF has stated VDS will hang up his boots at the end of the season.
Certainly Kuszczak will be off (SOLD) at the end of this season as well.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a surprise move for Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita. He is 23 years old, so still young enough. According to Spanish daily Sport, Sir Alex Ferguson was particularly impressed with Guaita's performance at Old Trafford
Could he be no.2.?

Any news on this.?

MH. {ed's note - I think Lindegard is the new back up myself.}

{Editor's Note: Deschamps would be a good option.}

@Ed, you may laugh as i did too when i heard this but Owen Coyle is being considered according to one of my mates, although he wants Deschamps.

Sydney!

{Editor's Note: You may laugh but he is also one of those considered for the Manchester United post when Sir Alex leaves. This dates back to his time with Burnley in the Championship. I don't know whether or not he has been considered for the Liverpool role, but I would certainly not be surprised.}

I also got told about Deschamps, is that true too?

Sydney! {ed's note - I don't know if it is common knowledge or not, I guess it must be, should be now as even the reason for his rejection has been discussed on the Liverpool site. Deschamps rejected Liverpool in the summer, he was not interviewed since, but he is still under consideration for the summer.}

@That is what i heard, i heard Deschamps rejected the offer in June this year but said he may consider it in 2011. I heard Liverpool plan to speak to him in the summer and he is top of their list now Hiddink rejected them. Would you be happy with this replacement?

Sydney!

Good sources in Germany say that Bayern has a deal done for Neuer.

{Editor's Note: That is correct - and they have been warned that if true it would be an "illegal" approach for the player. No fee has been agreed and no discussions have taken place with Schalke.}

@I fully expect him to be playing for Bayern next season. This is why i have hunch who it will be!

@I heard that too, is this common knowledge to people or is this just what people know in the Liverpool area because my mate told me all of this. Its not the same guy that told me about Carlton Cole to Liverpool, that is a Cockney friend of mine.

I also got told about Deschamps, is that true too?

{Editor's Note: They will certainly take a look at Lindegaard this season but what has now changed is the likely availablility of Schalke's Manuel Neuer in the summer.}

@Ed, it appears Liverpool are also interested in Neuer, well that is what many papers in England & Germany are saying, which means nothing of course. Do you believe Liverpool are interested in Neuer and if so then what does that mean for Reina?

Sydney! {ed's note - I don't believe those reports of Liverpool being interested, keeping tabs maybe, but not firm interest. The only reason Pepe Reina would be on his way is if Roy Hodgson was still manager in the summer.}

@I did hear whispers that NESV have been interviewing discreetly, i heard Pellegrini was interviewed but the fact he needed a translator for that interview is the main reason he never got the job. I understand NESV want an English speaking manager.

@I thought it was strange Ed, this is why i thought i would get your opinion on it, i tend to agree with you, keeping tabs is certainly happening as all big clubs keep tabs on top prospects & affordable stars but i agree its unlikely they will move for him with Reina at the club.

I take it Hodgson is on his way out then Ed?

I was just wondering what you guys (and you Ed!) think about the GK situation. Do you think Lindegaard will be our number 1 next season when VDS retires? Also, how much game time do you think Lindegaard will get this season, with regards to the first team. With the Carling cup gone, and Liverpool in the FA cup, it seems that the rest of our matches are very important.

I haven't seen anything at all of Anders, but I would like to see perhaps another, more well-known keeper.

Also, I know some people have been saying that he lacks experience compared to others, and yes he does with the Likes of Neuer and Stekelenberg having performed in the WC, but in terms of age, he his 2 years older than Neuer.

{Editor's Note: Sanchez is clearly a wonderful talent but I do see him as a luxury item in a way. My fear is that he may not be robust enough for the day-to-day EPL games. If it were £15M then perhaps a risk worth taking - much higher and I would think twice.}

@I really shouldn't be replying to this as the rumour police are onto me but here goes LOL. I said exactly the same thing last night Ed, i said the only concern is if he can handle the physical side of the Premiership. But i agree at 15m he is worth a gamble, 20m+ and i would think again. Personally i would offer Macheda as part of the deal, he would be a fluent goalscorer in Italy.

Sydney!

{Editor's Note: Exchanges are still reasonably rare - but with Macheda it may suit all parties.}

Sydney, only seen Sanchez in world cup and he looked a half decent prospect, however hes basically another right winger who could possibly do a job on the left.What wer'e crying out for is a specialist left sided player to give the team balance and it would also help if he was a dead ball specialist.I don't know who would fit this criteria as i don't know all the players knocking round Europe at the present time.Two premier league players who do spring to mind are Ashley Young and Charles Nzogbia, who incidentally would come quite cheap and would also be good cover for other positions.
I therefore can't see the manager paying big money for Sanchez.
By the way RAINFISHTROMBONE seems to have dissapeared, thought he was going to bring us news of Ravel Morrisons sentence, which he insisted was taking place last Monday.

Raffa

@15 million is not big money, not for a 21 year old, Young at 26 would cost more than that. I see your point about a natural left winger but let me ask you this, is N'Zogbia or Young any better than Nani on the left? I don't think so, so unless one turns up i think we should sit tight. Bale will not happen, although i would love to see him signed, he won't be.

I have not heard nothing about Morrison, perhaps the sentencing got adjourned?

If Sanchez is good enough for you then I am sure Fergie cannot have missed such a talent. I havent seen enough of him obviously.

@In fairness hes hard to watch as he plays for Udinese & Chile, unless you wait up til 2am or 3am in the morning to watch Chile then you will miss him and unless Udinese are playing Inter or AC Milan you will probably not get a chance to see him there either.

I am sure they will have clips of him on Youtube, just so you can see roughly what he is made of.
