With all the internationals yesterday which games did you guys watch and which players?

I watched the Croatia and France. Rakitic is a very good and Valbuena was the best player on the pitch for the french. Anyone know more about these two and if we have an interest in them?

Shahram

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I think there was interest in 2011 and at the time when asked about joining United, Valbuena said: "Manchester [United]? I would cycle there. "

do not know of any interest since. {Ed002's Note - A recent approach for Valbuena from Udinese was turned down. Rakitic remains likely to move to Lazio in the summer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh neother are good enough for us.
Valubuena has the inconsistency of Nani. There is a reason he's still playing in France at 28 years of age.
As for Rakitic, he's a solid yet unspectacular player, not in the same league as Rooney and Kagawa ( he plays best as a CAM )

We were linked with valbuena about 3 years ago. Not my ideal signing but still better than Anderson

Rodriguez interviewed after the Columbia game and said he had heard nothing official about United being interested at this moment in time and that he was happy at porto and would like to stay there.
Asked if he would prefer a move to the EPL or la liga he chose la liga

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Of course he choose La Liga its a better fit.

Agree1 Disagree0

No big deal from my point of view as previously stated grossly overpriced if the numbers being quoted are what it would take to get him here.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

If he'd rather go somewhere else, I'd rather he did. We can get someone who WANTS to play for us

Agree1 Disagree0

All Portuguese papers and contacts think he'll either stay or move to Spain. Don't rule out Bayern too.
Not PL though.

Agree0 Disagree2

If we miss out on him, as we have done with Hazard & Moura then we may just stick with what we have in the wide areas and try to tie Nani down to a new deal. Gotze I think will stay at his club for a season, and others aren't ready yet like Vadillo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are our current wide options good enough though? I would say that is where we are weakest at the moment, not in central midfield. Cleverly has been good most of the season even if not often brilliant, while Carrick has probably had his best season for us. None of the wide players have even been good consistently.

Agree1 Disagree0

I really rate that young lad from schalke Julian Draxler. Young and with a great deal of natural talent, i'd love for us to snap him up. Do any of the eds kno if there's any interest there? Also with Wilfred Zaha coming in on the right that would mean the wide players that are already there ( Valencia, nani, and young ) would have to be far more consistent or find themselves not getting that many games.

Ed, are we seriously interested in gotze? Quality player I really hope we are! Is there any more news on Strootman haven't heard anything of late cheers

Caoln. {Ed002's Note - Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona were previously knocked back by his club although Goetze has identified his favourite teams as Barcelona and Arsenal. There has also been interest also from Real Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan - who I suspected were shifting their interest in previous interest in the likes of Ganso or Fernando to Goetze. I would expect Manchester United will look to the player again at some point but I rather doubt he will move this summer.

There is nothing new with Strootman.}

Didn't realise how good Williams from Palace is until tonight. We say that Wilshere would be perfect but this boy could be the best alternative out there, and you never know, he could be more lucky with his fitness - hopefully he got his bad injury of his career out of his system last year with his broken leg. I have a feeling that discussions would of been held with Palace while we were negotiating with them about Zaha. Generally held the opinion that we would sign two central midfielders, one being an established player like Strootman and one unheard of/young player.

Our midfield really could be in fantastastic shape if we could get Williams to go with Powell, Januzaj, Daehli. Its ironic that our current 'weakness' could turn out to be our biggest strength in the next generation. Our next generation is certainly going to be a strong one: De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Keane's, the Silva's, Januzaj, Powell (Williams & Shaw I wish, would also love Halilovic), Daehli, Henriquez. A pretty good safety net for our great club.

Don't forget Hughes, he is a better prospect than even Williams who is still a great prospect. let's not also forget Pearson and Rothwell in the U18s, they are good players and could be even better but have suffered injuries and illness delaying their development. Wilson is also one of the most highly rated strikers in European football for his age attracting Barca and AC scouts in the past. We have some exceptional youth players and even more when you look at our U16s (Mitchell, Borthwick-Jackson, Rashford). I'm a little worried we actually have too many top young strikers (Keane, Henriquez, Gomes soon, Wilson and Byrne) all trying to get ahead of 4 great strikers in RVP, Rooney, Chicha and Welbeck. Add Smalling and Jones to the list as they are immensely talented young defenders and the future is bright without doubt. Most importantly the majority are English and shouldn't want to leave for the sunny cities of Madrid or Barcelona.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Young joniesta as palace fans call him. After the whole leg broken thing he is develloping really well, considering these sort of injuries can affect the devellopment of players his age.
As for talented youngsters we shoukd buy, I would love to see a trio of Fischer, Mastour and Halilovic. Those 3 are the new Goetzes and Neymars. Imagine them with Perreira, Januzaj, Powell, Daehli, Barmby and co. The competition would be unbeleivable. But that is beeing too selfish.

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Hughes isn't as good as Williams, Williams is far better.

Agree0 Disagree0

"I'm a little worried we actually have too many top young strikers (Keane, Henriquez, Gomes soon, Wilson and Byrne)" - don't get carried away Dan, you can't have TOO many good youngters, as good as the young crop are supposed to be, if we get one or two that turn into top players it would be good. The Fergie fledgings or Barcelonas current crop all comign through at onceis very rare, sadly for various reasons 90% of the "next big things" don't turn out to be as we have experienced ourselves recently remember. let's hoep a couple of the current crop can live up to the hype

I just watched Mourinho again yesterday, the more I learn about him the more I think he is a shoe in. Heavily influenced by Robson and SAF, what more could you want? He says his next club will probably be in epl and could be for a long period. I think it will happen this summer or next. Players like Garay and Rodriguez being heavily linked only make me think this is more likely. Lewandowski. we know how Mourinho does like assertive strikers. Be sad when SAF moves to one side but if it is Mourinho, he wil be here for some time and I think we will love him, he doesn't need a massive budget, we already have a squad that would grow underneath him and we can get back that fear factor we had not so long ago, which I saw a glimmer of against Real Madrid.

Believable23 Unbelievable9

Mourinho is the ideal man as he has a big enough ego to excel in the role. It will be THE HARDEST job to take on in the summer or next summer. I'd expect Ronaldo to come back with Mourinho to be honest as well. Whatever happens it will be incredibly interesting to see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing that worries me about Mourinho is the fact that he's never stayed anywhere for that long, he turns up and wants instant success then moves on which means he's never been one to focus on youth players and progression through the youth academy ranks etc. He definitely is one of the best behind SAF in terms of having an inspirational personality and man managing players though.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

If you look at why he's left his clubs though it's more than feasible to think he could stay at Old Trafford for a long time.
Porto-Bigger challenge.
Chelsea-Kicked out.
Inter-Not many managers turn down Real
Madrid-Having lots of problems

He wouldn't have any interference at Utd a la Abramovich and Madrid board/Prima Donna players. Only man for the job in my opinion. He could possibly go to PSG for a season or two until Fergies ready to go. {Ed002's Note - Mourinho was not "kicked out" of Chelsea. What makes you think he will be moving to Old Trafford?}

Agree0 Disagree1

No chance of Jose becoming the next boss its Moyes nailed on every body in Football knows it and everybody should be glad its him over Jose I would rather a gental man than a mouth piece and those who say Moyes has done nothing in the game should look at his teams honesty and his skill to pick a player if he had the teams and money Jose had he would be well decorated he wins clean and in a manner Old trafford demands Sir Bobby would quite i'm shore if Jose who wins a lot by getting in other teams heads in a bulling and down right rude manner I would like to see what happens if he tryed it with Moyes it would probably end badly for him Jose always has to be the star even at madrid were he spouts rubbish left right and center he is trying to tell the world that Ronaldo is better than Messi at the minute ha ha hilariuos, Ronaldo is the second best player in the world but comparing him to be better than Messi is like comparing Bale to him there is a huge gap and its just his way of trying to change perseption in a sneaky sleazy way and Ed how was Mourinho not given his martching orders by chelsea they had been unhappy with his style of play and disregard of gentalmanship for a long time I think he played his best football at porto and they were a bunch of cheating players like him eye pocks, insane statements like Ronnies better than Messi we can do without. Katef

Agree0 Disagree2

Moyes nailed on? Unlikely as he's never win anything!

Mourinho has won at every team he's been. Lowest league finishing position 3rd. Won title in 3 countries, multiple European Cup winner etc. I think United represents his next challenge - creating a dynasty.

Now the only other realistic candidate has chosen to managed Bayern surely it's Mourinho who is the shue-in as next United manager. The only variable is when Fergie decides to move upstairs.

Agree1 Disagree0

No chance on Jose Helesini and it is going to be Moyes mark my words United are not a club like all the others we breed success through honest managers with traditional styles and manners Jose is none of those he is modern contenental but in a bad way yes he gets results with lots of money and great players but he does it in a manner that is wrong for us we have always been a traditional team and I hope we always stay that way Moyes would bring as much to the table as Jose he just has not had anywere near the rescoures to buy the success Jose has judge Moyes after a few seasons with us with a great squad and lots of money not on his honesty and loyalty of staying with Everton and waitng for the big job here. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

We breed success? this guys blinded. Fergie breads success prior to that we waited 26 years. grow up. i'd have Ole or giggs for sentimental factor. Blanc over Moyes but to win you have to wait for pepe or jose. simple.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think Moyes has something lined up but I doubt it's the Utd job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes to Arsenal
Fergie to stay at least one possibly two more seasons for another tilt at European Cup
Mourinho to PSG

and with a bit if luck The Fat Spanish Waiter to stay at Chelski forever lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes will not be going to Arsenal. Wenger will want one more crack at winning the league and if he is given the backing to sign the top players then they should be a little closer to compete and Moyes as much as so many on here don't want him to be the new manager its going to happen this summer or next with Fergie moving to the boardroom most of Salford know it because of its local links and most are happy to have a consistant honourable and hummble coach and Jose to PSG a sugar daddy club just how he likes it lol. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand why people want Mourinho, I love the guy too, although I don't want him at utd.

I don't understand though why people are so loved up on Guardiola? Sure he looks like a good manager, but all the hype is ridiculous. He might be the best manager in the world for all I know, but we don't know yet because he hasn't achieved anything truly of his own yet. Everything he achieved at Barca was on the back of other peoples work. He put the finishing touches on perfecting a system, philosophy and squad which was already in place.

Klopp would be good, similar emphasis on mentality to SAF but young modern coach, could build his own dynasty for the next 20+ years. Also good attacking football.
