Ed2, you previously stated that Chelsea baulked at the price Southampton wanted for Luke Shaw, do you think with the money they look to be getting for David Luiz they may return for Shaw? Thanks.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea will not pay the sum Southampton valued Shaw at when they made an offer in January.}

Ok ed thanks very much!

Again Woodward showing his complete incompetence shaw wanted united they have had 2 weeks and still not sorted out a deal. I fully expect to see shaw at Chelsea now chance gone. Woodward is useless

Good morning Ed02, can I ask, if Southampton accepted an offer from MU that Chelsea thought was an acceptable amount, could they jump in and offer a similar amount? Or is it already past the amount which Chelsea would pay for him? Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not willing to pay the price being asked in January. Obviously the "could" do practically anything. If Chelsea could negotiate a lower price for the player, then they might do. But for now their interest is elsewhere because of that figure.}

Thanks Ed.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Southampton are interested.}

Now according to sky we are after James McCarthy and may be willing to offer Tom cleverly in exchange. Well McCarthy is undoubtedly a talented player, not world class by any means but he is very talented and is still young! Hopefully we do bring him in as he is a lot better than any midfielder we currently have

Believable7 Unbelievable47

Everton will charge us through the nose for him. Not really what we need if we are honest.

Agree2 Disagree1

So, instead of the next Paul Scholes (Kroos), we are now after the next Carrick.

Agree8 Disagree0

Hardly the kind of buy which suggests huge ambition though he is competent enough and might improve greatly. With competitors stronger anyway and improving their squads we do need a very special window this time.

Agree3 Disagree0

Bond will love this

Agree0 Disagree0

Roberto will want 25 30 mill, but can't see him leting him go, if u beleive the press everton will have no players next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't read into this what so ever, not going to happen.
yes he player well last year, but he is one of those players who look good at a smaller club but cannot cut it at a bigger club

Agree4 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - Absolute nonsense, McCarthy has raised his game to meet every challenge since he was a young teenager getting kicked up and down the lower leagues in Scotland. He would offer more to the Utd midfield than Fellaini has or Cleverley ever will. You would probably give him a chance if his name was McCarthio and was commanding a £40m fee. McCarthy would bring an energy and tenacity to the Utd midfield that has been missing since Keane left.}

I agree with bond I wanted him last summer ahead of fellaini. Cracking little player full of energy and a tidy passer.

Agree1 Disagree2

James McCarthy is the best young prospect in midfield in the Premiership - and has steadily improved since his start at Hamilton Academicals. Not saying we still shouldn't be bringing in a big name but this guy would be a fabulous signing.

Agree1 Disagree3

Well I said it was the sky season but some of this stuff is beyond silly. He is nowhere good enough for United and you lot need to stop posting this rubbish.

Agree2 Disagree1

I agree with Bond. I'm Scottish and have been watching McCarthy since he was at Hamilton. He is a very good player, maybe not at the same level as Kroos but he is a better player than all of our CM's perhaps with exception of Carrick but he wasn't great last year either. In my opinion he will do brilliantly if he joins us, brings plenty of energy to our midfield which we need.

Agree1 Disagree1

GCU

Neither is 80% of our midfield currently at united good enough, But here's hoping to an eventful summer and if we do sign McCarthy then I for one will be happy to see him replace half the SP we have at United.

With the right guidance, This guy can become a rock in midfield that we have missed and if he has WC players around him he will flourish.

Agree0 Disagree1

Ed007. How exactly is that nonsense? If you read what was written, it cannot be disagreed with.
There has been MANY players who stand out at smaller clubs but cannot perform at bigger ones.
Fellaini, Carroll, Robbie Keane, Dempsey, Adam Johnson, Diouf.
Same goes for managers, Allerdice (when went to Newcastle), Di Canio, Redknapp, AVB, Moyes.
I bet your a Moyes fan, than would explain your weak opinion!
Not sure what your getting at with referring to with a £40m signing of an unknown, again no logic with that remark.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Read it back yourself, if there is any functioning brain matter in there you'll see yourself it's nonsense. I done you a service by telling you so nicely. I bet you're a Chuckles Brothers fan, that would explain a hell of a lot!}

Acceptable to play in the three man midfield if say a Kroos is bought

Agree0 Disagree0

Bond how dare you, the chuckle brothers are the only thing us rotherhamer's have

Agree0 Disagree0

@Ed007

If McCarthy would cost 15-20mil I would take him over the overpriced Carvalho for sure.

I agree, he would offer more than Cleverley or Fellaini, but they are hardly the standards to go by.

Fabregas and McCarthy could make a good partnership for next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Of course Fellaini and Cleverley are the standards to go by, they are the current standard of Utd player so McCarthy is a marked improvement.}

We're Man Utd! What the hell are we doing year after being linked with the best then getting good premier league players that suit mid table sides, I'm not listening to one more rumour with any hope, totally sick of being linked with players we obviously need then ending up with nothing

Agree2 Disagree0

Reddevil

He is an above average PL midfielder and not what you go out and buy when you are trying to rebuild to challenge for Europe and PL.

His stats for assists and goals are terrible and if you wanted a busy body to run around and offer some combativeness in midfield there are about 50 out there, but not what you rebuild with.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on gcu I am with you on this one we can't be messing around with our transfers this year. We need proven quality or else we will be discussing this again same time next year .

Agree0 Disagree0

GCU

Without a doubt their are more skillful players who would do a great job for plenty of money. something we have failed to do for many seasons. I don't expect any shock this summer either.

My point about mccarthy is that he is a dam sight better than wiggy and clev.

Im all up for rebuilding the squad. I just hope its not built on cast offs or lower tier players. it will take yrs to get the youth up to speed therfore we need quality and we need it now

Agree0 Disagree0

GCU his stats for goals and assists?.He's a defensive mid and he's far from average.Also Everton will not sell and stop believing all the crap in the papers.

'Rumours' that James McCarthy is one of our targets, should have bought him last season, would have got him for half what the Wig cost

Believable5 Unbelievable22

Anyone we 'buy' the price will always be 'inflated' so its a no win - no win situation, every club in europe knows that! especially with woodward spluting 'we have significant funds available' and just for being mufc!
