Really great to see the statue go up today. I love Man utd, and always will. But it is Fergie, and his achievements that make me proud to be a fan of this club. No one person is bigger than a football, but I really don't think Manchester United will ever be quite the same after Sir Alex retires. And I know it won't if Mourinho takes over, so I personally hope that doesn't happen.

Benj. I think you will find that most people (excepting new borns) are bigger than a football :). Nevertheless, admirable sentiments and I agree.

Benj a club with our facility and revenues will always be up there for major honors if a good manager is hired as they have everything a manager wants to build great teams.

Football has changed a lot and no disrespect to SAF but when he was spending 25 to 30 million on players in the early 2000's there was not that many teams that could even contemplate that and in my view we should have won CL at least on 2 other occasions. Right time right place as they say.

HA! ok there was a slight error in my post. Well spotted.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with you Shahram. Yes there were opportunities missed in the CL (the year Tim Howard got us knocked out against Porto springs to mind!) but I don't think any reasonable person could argue that Sir Alex Ferguson should have been more successful than he has been...

Agree0 Disagree0

The statue is alot better and cheaper then the statue chelsea brought of fernando torres lol

Agree1 Disagree0

I think you have a point about maybe we should have won the CL at least 1 more time between 99 and 08. What you have to remember though is that was the period where Real had their Galacticose of Raul, Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, Casillas and no matter who we brought/how well we played they were the best in their position in the world. No one we brought would be better than them.

Anyone is better then the current options

Tacticalyinept

I would love it, i feel he is the best option to add that bite to our midfield.

He is a real class player who is proven in the prem and would be attainable for a price.

Looks like Beckham will be offered the chance to be a Real Madrid ambassador once he retires.

I'm positive he would rather be our ambassador, he always says he has manchester united in his heart and such things. And since he is one of the most recognized and idolised figures in sports history, I think we should try to lure him in. Thoughts?

Mick {Ed007's Note - He will be part of a business who owns an MLS franchise, that is the plan.}

Believable15 Unbelievable1

I thought I heard a while back that Beckham said he wanted to be our director of football in the same way Zidane works for Madrid. Did I imagine that/has he changed his mind Ed007?

Dan {Ed007's Note - He has said that in the past but Beckham's contract includes the option to buy an MLS franchise when he retires.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well anyhow i think he would make a great ambassador, kissing up to fifa's officials and stuff like that. Plus his name has a worldwide reach and that can only be good for us. Thanks Ed.

Mick

If it can be done it should be he would be great for us and would also bring more endorsments to the club

I was just going through the german players who played under saf and the numbers astounded me. i could only find Ron Robert Zieler. Considering the good amount of talented german players in the last few decades its really surprising to know this. is there a reason for this ?
RD27 {Ed007's Note - German players in general seem to be very difficult to entice to leave Germany.}

But still there have been players who have played in england for other clubs ballack for chelsea lehmann metresacker for arsenal klinsmann for totenham etc.. ozil and khedira play in spain and considering we were in need of someone like ozil. {Ed007's Note - That's why I said in general. Look at English players, very few of them move abroad and if they do they usually stay for a couple of seasons then come back to England. I'd say the reason for that though is that the majority of English players aren't as technically as good as players brought through in Spain, Italy or Germany. For me personally, the Bundesliga is the best league in the world. I have been over for a few St Pauli games and have been interested in Borussia Dortmund since Murdo MacLeod left Celtic to go there years ago. Perhaps the players are happy where they are, English football isn't the be all and end all, whatever S*y would have you believe.}

Fergie doesn't like germans.. did you not see his interview when we lost to bayern..

Markus Neumayr(spelling?).

Was a reserve in the Pique and Rossi era. Didn't make the grade or even look like he would but next time you're trying to think of Germans that have been at United you'll have one more!

Why was the whole of Europe not after Oscar?

G.A.G.U.S {Ed002's Note - There was interest in OScar from elsewhere hence the move ahead of plan to Chelsea.}

My PE teacher reckons United already have a deal struck to bring Jose and Ronaldo to United in the summer, don't have a clue if it's true all I know is he's a season ticket holder because his brother works at OT doing the tours!

Believable3 Unbelievable24

Lol maybe he used to work at Old Trafford doing the tours if this is true. I don't think it is wise to name sources mate.

Darren-Bermuda

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh you dont want to get him in trouble! Still there could be some truth in it. I would like to have a youth and family friendly sort of coach but Mourinho is a winner and that is what matters most. If he brings Ronaldo then its definitely worth it!

Doubt it mate, but we can all dream

Ed has there been any interest from us into De Rossi or is it only city?

Dan {Ed002's Note - As it stands right now I don't expect De Rossi to leave Roma unless PSG make a very significant bid, they decide to sell and he decides to move.}

Believable3 Unbelievable3

De rossi will be a city over united coz of mancini or stay at roma!

Hi peeps,just read on a dutch & english sports website that man utd & psv have agreed on a pre contract agreement to sign kevin strootman.psv are app trying to sign swedish player oscar hiljemark as strootmans replacement.hope this is true,any views ED...
-JEB- {Ed002's Note - PSV are chasing Hiljemark and there is certainly interest in Strootman moving to Old Trafford. Manchester United and Liverpool took a look at Kevin Strootman last season but tentative enquiries were met by a reluctance to sell so soon after arriving. His performances have attracted further interest from Manchester United, Valencia, AC Milan, Schalke 04 and Hamburg. I expect him to move to Manchester United or Milan in the summer.}

Believable11 Unbelievable3

Would love strootman to sign for us i think we are all in agreement that we need a new cm or two strootman ticks all the boxes although i beleave there is half a dozen good young box to box cm out there that are well within our reach some that would cost a lot and others that will cost very little i think there could should and will be a move made for strootman should imaginge having rvp would give us a inside track on how good he is and having two dutch players here already will make the transition smooth lets hope these rumors have some truth behind them Katef

Agree0 Disagree2

Surely if we bring in Strootman then that spells the end for Ando? They styles are pretty much identical.

Agree0 Disagree2

I'd say so, he's shown plenty of potential at times but the fact is, his injuries and form have meant he's never reached the level he should have by now. His fitness is a huge issue, how can he expect to play regularly when he can only last for 70 mins or so, it just doesn't work. If we can recoup £10m or so and put that towards Strootman it'd be good business.

rpc

Agree0 Disagree2

I'd rather have Cirigliano tbh. He will be cheaper as well
