I think that we should get rid of berba, bring in edison cavani and bring in a creative midfielder such as sneijder or I think a cheeky bid for Scott Parker but have you heard anything on cavani?

Team for next year. We have de Gea for GK. We have Rafael/Fabio for RB. We have Ferdinand/Smalling and Vida for CB. We have Evra/Evans for LB. We have Valencia/Nani for RM. We have Fletcher/Carrick/Jones and Carrick/Cleverley for CM. We have Young/Park for LM. Finally we have Rooney and Hernandez/Berba? for forward. We need a keeper and we have a deal secured for de Gea. We don't need a defensive midfielder as we have Jones, Fletcher and Carrick. We need a creative midfielder tho. Gilly

hi ed, do you know whats happening with edison cavani, read on a few websites that united were interested, and whats the latest on alexis sanchez would love to see them at utd.

{Ed019's Note - All that's been reported so far is interest, but with the price tag being quoted I can't see United going for him personally. Sanchez's future is still up in the air and he could still end up at either Barca, United, City or maybe even another top club, I just hope that when the dust settles he will be pulling on a Manchester United shirt.}

""If Barca want him, they will have to pay his fair price, which is 50m [£44m]. He is the piece missing in Guardiola's puzzle, a player who makes the difference, " he said."

A quote from Pozzo....

So is he saying that Messi, Pedro, Xavi and Iniesta don't make a difference?

Sanchez and Udinese need this move more than Barcelona do, He is quite possibly the most arrogant, self obsessed person of a Club President i've ever seen.

With nani now confirmed staying not only will we have blistering speed up front but a sqaud with a great amount of wingers for rotation, although young is clearly not a worldbeater we now have so many options to tear teams apart all season. Roll on september and a creative midfielder (if we had ozil this team could stand up to any)
georgethebest

Well said Georgie!

We missed Valencia alot last year, and relied heavily on Nani. With Young in our squad, SAF has the ability, not only to rotate his wide players and cover for injuries, but it also gives Nani and Young the opportunity to play in a more central role behind the front man, therefore giving Rooney a break when required. I also agree Ozil would be perfect, but I can't see us prising him from Real Morbid!
On the subject of Young, watch SAF develop him as a player as he did with Dwight Yorke.

hi everyone i was just reading the posts on here and was agreeing with what most people put but how can u slate ashley young when he is cheaper than most international players and can perform at international level he is the joint highest assist with lampard and that is with the likes of john carew heskey bent agbonlahor now with hernandez rooney berbatov he will be so effective from crosses and set pieces but i am fairly sure that we will be playing the diamond formation with nani valencia and young all swapping as all 3 can play left wing right wing and attacking midfielder with holding hopefully a big buy like schweinsteiger or modric or javi martinez but if nani does go why not sign sanchez and play him central behind the strikers and swap him with rooney every so often putting him further forward and i would love to see higuain or benzema or aguero but i doubt it

It has been widely reported today, that Alex Ferguson will push through a deal for Egyptian play-maker Mostafa Afroto after being advised by the same scouts who identified Javier Hernandez.

Reports apparently claim that Manchester United scouts have been watching Afroto since the turn of the year and have been hugely impressed with his performances for his club Al-Ahly.

The Egyptian under-23 currently plays for Al-Ahly, as well as the national team. Mostafa is nicknamed "Afroto" (or Little Genie) for his speed, pace and unpredictable moves on the pitch.

The fee has been reported to be £5.6 million for the widely unknown Egyptian, and the deal could be tied down before Ferguson returns from the south of France.

Teams like City, Liverpool & Madrid, have destroyed the realistic transfer market...it looks like fantasy foorball now or fifa 11 or pro evolution soccer !!! they buy players with just with those money that they r not worth...u can think about Carrol, Balotelli, Hendersson, Pedro leon, Di Maria[good, but now worth such money]
I'm sure SAF will spend in concious mind with reasonable price..
In:
Higuain or Benzema for 25m
Diarra 15m
Shaqiri or pato rodreguez 13 & 9 respectively..

I just had a thought about Nani... Anyone think he could play as a center attacking midfielder instead of a winger? I think it could work well as Nani prefers to shoot than cross the ball.

Have Young & Valencia either wing because they're the same sort of player. Play Nani behind Rooney and Hernandez? Maybe SAF could do with Nani what Real Madrid have done with Ronaldo??

{Ed019's Note - Ronaldo played centrally for United a lot in his last season so I wouldn't say Real Madrid came up with the idea. Not sure Nani really has the footballing intelligence to play there and he's not the goalscorer Ronaldo is, would most likely end up driving fans and team-mates mad shooting all the time.}

to be honest if udinese want 44mllion for sanchez, then they can f**k off. If he's that much there's no point anyone being linked. Everyone should just tell udinese to keep him. 44mil for a dwarf unproven player in the premier league? tbh i think we should go for xehrdan shaqiri. younger, quicker, good strike and proven in england, or should i say against england :D (rubbish joke)

but seriously i rather go for shaqiri, atleast the deal wouldn't take a year

A lot of people are saying that players are over-priced in today's market. While I agree that may well be the case, it is something that we will simply have to live with. I feel that we need to step up to the mark when it comes to transfers. For example, if we really want Sanchez, and if Pozzo wants 44m, then we need to show our hand and sign him.

Ther is no point using the excuse of no value in the market all the time. If we stand still, we will simply be left behind and miss out on these young stars. Think of it this way, if we sign Sanchez for approx 35-40m and sell Nani for 25-30m, is that not good business? That's basically signing Sanchez for 10-15m. If Berbatov is offloaded, that recoups another 15m. After that, we can concentrate on that midfield signing.

Just wonderin ed. Are any of these 3 players starting 11 quality?

If they are more players for the future i will be happy enough with no marquee signing, future marquee signings will do.

with the arrival of young is it now more likely we will sell nani? reason ask is because young will play much more in the style of valencia, giving us greater balance (and prob more in the utd way
of old) bearing in mind we also have the likes of cleverly and morrison (spelling) coming thru as well as back up in shape of park or even giggs
also is evans def looking at door following jones arrival and should we be looking at a right back if its true brown and oshea are also off?

Believable6 Unbelievable13

Hi, firstly i was wondering if gibson, brown and oshea are definitely leaving.

If this is correct then does anyone know of any interest in right backs because after neville oshea and brown go we will only have rafael as a recognised right back, maybe fabio but i see him as evras backup and future replacement

so can anybody shed sum light on this, ed?

It's time for my weekly question!

Ed, any update on Diego?

I really don't understand why he hasn't been linked to us yet! Just as good as the constantly mentioned names.

The Moon. {Ed002's Note - Diego was linked with Liverpool a while back. The change this week is that he has been find £400k for walking out for the third time. There are talks planned between the player, the club and a couple of law firms, one of which is Brazilian, to make a decision on his future. Perhaps it will become clearer after the talks. If I hear anything I will post it. I would be astonished if MUFC wanted the grief that follows Diego around.}

We have been linked with nearly every player in Europe in the past 3 weeks. I still think Sneijder is our main target as Modric has said he wants to stay in London. The Sneijder link has refused to go away, every paper/source has run the story. I just think his personal demands might trip us up, but seeing we are offloading players too it should free up the salary budget. I think Sanchez will now stay at udinese, as it seems Barca have now turned interest to Cesc, Mata, Rossi. I think one more CM on top of De Gea and we will have finished.

Ed002 - Sorry to keep badgering you, but if Sanchez & Hazard is still being looked at, why wouldn't Mata be? I am not overly fussed about Mata, but if we are still looking at Sanchez & Hazard although we have signed Young, why would we not be looking at Mata now we have signed Young?

Do you think we will sign another winger if Nani leaves, what if Nani says?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure the Sanchez deal is going anywhere. I am also not sure that Manchester United maintain any more than a watching brief over Mata - as I thought I explained.}

@Like I said I am not fussed about Mata, I am not fussed about Hazard or Sanchez either, what I am slightly worried about is that Young will replace Nani? IMO that would still leave us a winger short.

Do you believe now we have signed Young, that we have finished looking at wide men? Do you think there is a chance Nani will stay? In your opinion of course.

Ed002 - Have you heard anything about United targeting Juan Mata? I don't usually listen to paper talk, but we are in for both Sanchez & Hazard and Mata fits the bill surely? £20m would be enough to sign him and this would be a major victory over Liverpool.

They worship the player like a god, but something tells me if we signed him, they would think he was a waste of money. Ed, would United be too hard for him to turn down?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Valencia are preparing for next season without the player. Interest has been shown by Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. I suspect that Barcelona may well also become interested at some point and if they do show their hand I feel he could move there. I have a vision that Sanchez moving to Barcelona could release David Villa back to Valencia in a player exchange for Mata. Stranger things have happened. Manchester City were reportedly heading the queue but had an offer rejected. As such, it would not be entirely out of the question that Liverpool could push for the player and make a concerted effort to match any other offer; and then there is a chance Mata could join them. In order to get the best deal, Valencia wanted to wait (a) to see if Barcelona show an interest; (b) until after the Under 21 Championships where he could well put in a very good performance. So Manchester United's interest was rather like Chelsea's - passing. Given Young has arrived, perhaps Mata is off the table now.}

I spoke very late last night to someone who is in South America this week and had some time available to travel around in orderr talk to folks about three particular players (who have probably never had a mention here). Ed's, Is there any substance to the Kaka rumours? They seem to be cropping up more and more? Or is it just another name for people to cling to because the Sanchez/Sneijder/Modric has run its course? {Ed002's Note - Kaka is certainly available but I don't know of any interest from Manchester United at present. So you think the Sanchez, Sneijder and Modric are all beyond redemption then?}

I think Tottenhams point blank refusal to sell Luca Modric will be difficult to go back on for Levy and Arry! Sneijders "we'll see" comments say alot but not alot if that makes sense. think his wages demands might be a problem and Sanchez i think will end up staying at Udinese as Pozzo is now quoted as saying he wants £44m, and if rumours are to be believed we only bid £27m.

So if Kaka is available id take the gamble, especially if it was a loan deal.

Ed002 - Good morning, Ed do you have any little gems of info for United fans at present? Do you know if we have entered the race for Modric yet? Will Chelsea still pursue the little Croat or will Boas turn to someone he wants?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Morning Syd. I am not sure that United's pursuit of Modric or Sneijder is over yet but we will see over the coming weeks. I can say that MU have looked at Penarol's Alejandro Martinuccio as a player they may be interested in at some point. I had thought he would be moving Roma this summer but that seems to be off the cards - at least for now. I fear at his age he needs to make a move to Europe soon or the chance will have gone.}

Ed's, Is there any substance to the Kaka rumours? They seem to be cropping up more and more? Or is it just another name for people to cling to because the Sanchez/Sneijder/Modric has run its course? {Ed002's Note - Kaka is certainly available but I don't know of any interest from Manchester United at present. So you think the Sanchez, Sneijder and Modric are all beyond redemption then?}

Just been on SSN Udinise think Sanchez is worth more than £44 million. I think they are hoping Man City will offer alot of money, even though speculation suggest Sanchez isn't interrested in them.

I can see Sanchez staying at Udinese now.

Sjneider, Modric, Nasri- 3 options for Midfield, firt two priced @ 30M Pounds n above, n Nasri wont be allowed by Arsene to join us. There are other options in the market as well, look at Marko Marin or Marvin Martin- those guys are fantastic, especially Marin. He is awesome. I'm sure these guys can be available for much less....perhaps someone can shed some light...Ed? Sydney? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of interest in Marin, but if Martin is sold I suspect he will not be moving to Old Trafford. Lyon seems a far more likely destination.}

Despite all the De Gea "is he or isn't he signing" saga, got no doubt he will be a UTD player within the next week or two since Athletico have already targeted his replacement, Genk's 19yr old no.1. Even though Spurs have come out and said Modric not for sale still hearing lots of noises that UTD are still going to bid. Does this mean we're about to make an offer Spurs can't refuse, £35/£40m+ perhaps?

After young deal has finalized now any thoughts who will be our next signing ed? rodwell, modric, Wesley,

r we after a new striker ed? any suggestion

{Ed019's Note - I wouldn't be surprised if United signed none of those. Rodwell would be very expensive despite having a poor season last year, Spurs want to keep Modric and if they did sell he would most likely stay in London with Chelsea. Sneijder would be very pricy in terms of initial fee and wages as well. Personally I reckon if United do sign someone it will be out of the blue.

I think United are set strikers wise, maybe a signing could be on the cards if Berbatov is sold but I still think SAF will be happy enough with his forward options.

i know we are looking for creative mid fielder/winger. why not Lee Chung Yong from Bolton. He definitely proved himself that he can play in premier league and can be eventual successor of Park Ji Sung. Also he wont be as expensive as other options are (ex Sanchez, Snejider or even Hazard)

Heard some rumblings today about edinson cavani moving to OT. Apparently we stepped up interest after city scouts watched him score a hat trick in a 4-3 win over lazio towards the back end of the season. This allerted utd and we are now in pole to sign him, money is no issue according to the rumour and his contract til 2016 won't affect anything if the transfer fee is feasible.

Aston Villa winger Young underwent a medical with the Premier League champions on Wednesday, and to complete his £15million switch to Old Trafford this afternoon.

But the Red Devils, who have also snapped up Phil Jones from Blackburn for £16million, are almost certain to smash their previous summer transfer record with at least two more big-name signings.

Goalkeeper David De Gea is understood to be arriving from Atletico Madrid in a £19million deal, and Ferguson still needs to plug the creative gap in his midfield vacated by Paul Scholes' retirement.

Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder are two names who have been heavily linked with a switch to United, and both would comfortably set Fergie back in excess of £30million
