AS are reporting Herrera was flying to Manchester tonight

So Buttner has signed for Dynamo Moscow. I think the signing of a left back (Shaw) is pretty imminent.

Believable27 Unbelievable5

Buettner sounds very bitter that he's been forced out of the club.

I would agree that Shaw is looking very very likely now. Top signing.

Agree1 Disagree1

Buttner wasn't good enough and I don't know why we bought him.

Agree2 Disagree0

I actually quite liked buttner, he was never going to be the best left back in the world but he gave 100% and was dangerous going forward. hopefully shaw will come in now.

Agree3 Disagree1

I don't think Buettner had the right attitude. Listening to him these past few days he seems like a right flake. He seems arrogant and cocky. I always thought he could do a job and was not much worse than Ev has been in recent years. Obviously he lacked the mentality as well as the talent as I think if he had a better mentality, he would have gotten more opportunities.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he signs for utd for anywhere near £30m then you have been well and truly ripped off. Great bit of business from saints.
Utd have problems in so many other areas, and signing a lb with potential is crazy, if not un believable. Let's hope he continues to develop, unlike jones, smalling, and welbeck.
All the players mentioned I feel could have done with one or two years at their previous clubs.

Agree1 Disagree2

Saintsmiff, he will cost more than £30m and will be a great investment.

Agree0 Disagree1

Welbeck came through our academy other than that I agree but we had to move fast on smalling and Jones others were interested. I also agree Shaw isn't worth anywhere near that sort of money. If I was Woodward i'd pull the plug and go elsewhere

Agree4 Disagree0

Maybe he was one more of SAF`s moneysaving projects? according to himself he was one of the best players at Manutd EVER! Being man of the match 14 times, almost every game he played for the first team. Now he wants to play CL and win trofies at a club that even hasn't qualified for the EL. I also liked the player in the begining, now he`s seemed to have the IQ of Forrest Gump.

Quick question for 002 when available and if not already answered by the time I ask.

Herrera of Bilbao, is it true that we have agreed a deal?

If not then has interest been rekindled? As a few days ago you mentioned you thought it would be unlikely that we would go back in for him.

Thanks and much appreciation to all eds for any info and the general brilliance of this site.

Believable18 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - I understand a bid has been made.}

Thanks 002 appreciate your information!

Ed002, it is being reported that United are in 'advanced' talks with Ander Herrera over a move. Do you know if there is anything in these new reports? Thank you

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of talks with the player, but I understand that Manchester United have submitted an offer.}

Thanks ed, always nice to have reliable info to back up or deny the truck load of rumours flying around.

One for the ed's please. Ed002 said last week, I think, that Herrera was unlikely. A lot of sources suggesting we have signed him ( 4 year deal) and it may be announced as early as today. Do you know of any new developments or am I getting carried away by paper talk AGAIN lol.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I understand that Manchester United have submitted an offer for the player.}

It just shows that nobody (including the magnificent Eds) has a clue on what's going on behind the scenes! We'll all just have to wait patiently to see what transfers materialise.

Southampton's new boss Ronald Koeman has increased the price tag on England left-back Luke Shaw, 18, by £10m to £40m.

Believable9 Unbelievable15

Probably the worse story I have ever read. Like Koeman would have a part in player valuations.

Agree3 Disagree0

Well over priced at 30m nevermind 40m

Agree1 Disagree0

This must be an example of the World Cup driving up prices. Must be true: Shaw had a blinder.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is most likely a ploy to get us to pay the actual £30m that they want.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps a bit of MotD fever, but would a bid for Daley Blind not be a better option if the prices being talked about are true?
Granted we need a new LB, but £30-40 for an unproven player is a bit much.
Surely we could save money on Blind, and invest the rest somewhere else? i.e.: top up any bid for Hummels etc?

Agree2 Disagree0

You're right Roman, you couldn't miss how good he is just by how he kept the bench warm.

Agree0 Disagree1

RedDub, Blind isn't actually a left back. He generally plays as a defensive midfielder for Ajax but he is versatile and can play several positions, one of which being LB. Personally I would rather pay the money and get a specialised LB.

Agree0 Disagree1

Blind as the number 6, Herrera as the number 8, Rooney as number 10. Midfield wouldn't look too shabby then.

Agree1 Disagree1

TK, my bad, never realised that Blind wasn't actually a LB.
Agree with you that we should spend money on a specialised LB, but 30-40m for Shaw is a little bit rich.

Being widely reported in the media this morning that United have agreed to pay the buy out clause for Ander Herrera.
I think we are all aware of him from last years summer window which became a bit of a farce.
Although not a household name (yet) and not an International regular he will be an important part of the new Spanish team.
Probably one of the top 4 players in Europe in his position.

Believable15 Unbelievable9

Need to see him put pen to paper will be a class signing. Hopefully a fast pace utd next session -

Agree0 Disagree1

It would be a good signing. Looking at LVG's Dutch team it is based on speed and pressing across the pitch. Our current team would have difficulty playing that way. Incidentally, Depsy looks good too.

Agree0 Disagree1

Top 4 in his position! Are you crazy?

Agree1 Disagree0

Charles, name 4 better at doing exactly what Herrera does?

Agree0 Disagree1

Nice challenge GDS2, I'd say, Yaya Toure, Vidal, Pogba, Strootman, Cabaye, Matic, even Marchisio, Modric, Koke, Gago, Bender .

Agree1 Disagree0

mbd

24 Jun 2014 11:51:54
What position would he fit into. 6, 8 or another 10?

Agree0 Disagree0

He would play in the centre of the midfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Brad76, 8.

mbd, are you serious? You think Matic, Strootman, Cabaye, Gago (lol) & Bender are better than Herrera. Out of the players above I would only take Pogba and Vidal ahead of Herrera. Yaya is quality, but old and he is starting to show his age. Out of the above list only Vidal and Pogba are considerably better and are at a good age like Herrera.

Agree1 Disagree3

Showing his age!?!?!?
he was 3rd top scorer last season and in a lot of peoples mind (including mine) he was player of the season.
20 goals last year for his age and position. not bad for a 31 year old

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2014 13:20:11
Sydney, thanks for the update on positions.
I assume then if we do actually get him all the talk of Vidal and the like will stop as we will then just need to address the number 6 role.
I say that in the belief we wI'll go 433 and not 352 (misguided maybe)

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2014 13:23:37
Syd,

So if no Spannish players are better than him in that position why was he nowhere near getting in the squad to go to the team, let alone the first 11?

Agree2 Disagree1

Mel, absolutely, he was outstanding last season. But if you watch the international games, he looks like he's struggling. I wonder if last season was the best season he will have for City and that it's taken a lot out of him. At 31 and the size he is, it's going to come to a halt very soon. You cannot overcome nature. If you watch him in games against quick midfielders, they do run rings around him. He's in his prime when it comes to free-kicks, shooting etc, but his body does look as though he's slowing up. Still a top notch player mind, but for how much longer?

Agree0 Disagree3

Top four my hoop! He certainly has the potential to, but he's not anywhere near that level yet. Let's wait and see if we get him before we start worshiping the ground he walks on

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd a lot of the poor form over the WC could be to do with his brother dying

Agree1 Disagree0

TOT66, I was using the selection of players that was given to me. And you can guarantee that Herrera, Thiago and Koke will be occupying the midfield for the NEW Spanish era. We would be buying him at the right time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, I ain't saying he isn't quality and I think he would be a good buy but I certainly won't put him before those I mentioned. Cabaye has been great for France in this WC so far. Yaya may be old but since we are talking of the best MF players, he def deserves to be ahead of Herrera. And I didn't want to mention Carvahlo because I haven't watched enough of him, but from the little I have seen . U get my point.

Agree0 Disagree0

mbd

Nonsense, I can't even believe people are saying he's such an amazing player, Ramsey is better, wilshire is better, fabregas is better, hazard is better (he plays the no.10 role aswell) fernandinho is better, vidal and pogba aren't even in the equation as they go without saying, jordan henderson is just as good! He hasn't even got a game for the spanish side and he's 24!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mbd, Herrera gets around the pitch. He doesn't stop running, he tackles, he attacks, he bursts forward, he can shoot, great passer. An energetic B2B is exactly what we are missing. Other than Vidal I wouldn't say the rest are as energetic as Herrera. At what he does specifically, I would definitely say he's in my top five.

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of nonsense comments on here. Herrera is a playmaker, literally the linchpin of the Bilbao team last year. Yaya, Carvalho, Ramsey, Hazard, Pogba, Henderson, even fabregas are totally different players and shouldn't come into the equation. IMO he is a great signing who will improve even more and will control our attacking play for years to come.

Agree1 Disagree0

Charlesdance, are you a bitter Liverpool fan or a bitter Arsenal fan?

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha bitter? This just makes me laugh, I can't believe this site every time a player is linked, they are suddenly the best player to walk the earth, he's a decent player but have a bit of cop on. he's not going to be groundbreaking by any means. And why didn't u mention man city or chelsea in that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Charles, check my post from June 8th. Long before this Herrera stuff broke. Herrera is a good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I mentioned a rumor I'd heard that we were after him a year ago, well before papers et. Picked up on it, and as I recall, She was one of the first to say he'd be a good signing, so he's not getting caught up in hype or anything.

I also think he'd be almost the perfect signing.

He isn't the typical playmaker a lot of people think of him as, he's part playmaker, part box-to-box.

Not the most flattering comparison, but he reminds me of Anderson's better games in his first couple of years with us.

Also, perhaps a bit like Wilshere but with more energy, runs round defenders instead of into them and a little more cleverness in his passing.

Wilshere has potential to be better, but he won't fulfill it unless he sorts out his injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshire is shocking! I'd be worried if he was rated alongside or above anyone! He cannot pass the ball forward at all. He is another version of cleverly, just gets sent off more
Reminds me of a younger cesc when he played purely central midfield

Almost all spanish outlets reporting a supposed "done deal" for Ander Herrera. Some even claim that it will be announced today and the player is in England.

Treat this with caution, we have been here before.
