Edd 002, there seems to be a lot of discussion around United's goalkeeper situation, is there still a chance of either keeper leaving and is begovic still on the cards. Personally I would be surprised to see ddg leave {Ed002's Note - I don't see anything has changed. Begovic is moving on in the sumemr and MU are interested in him.}

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Ed002 do you think DDG will stay or do you think there is a chance he could leave? I hope he is staying personally. Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - He will look at his options and could leave.}

Agree0 Disagree1

I think he may stay due to no other club meeting United's valuation of him. I do not see United making a big loss on him, so I think Lindegaard will need to be the one to make way to enable SAF to sure-up the goalkeeping department. Begovic will not join to be number two so if he joins then he will be our number one. I'd still expect to see DDG play a lot of games mind. Mainly cup games and UCL group games perhaps.

Agree0 Disagree2

I will be surprised if we sign begovic to be honest, unless ddg is unsettled or homesick

Agree1 Disagree0

Manchester United are not bankrolled by a billionaire so Begovic's arrival may well depend on whether or not we sell DDG. SAF may have a difficult task explaining to the Glazers that he wants another £12m or so to sign Begovic when the club has spent £18m on DDG. The summer is some way off yet and DDG has been better in latter part of the season so maybe things may change, but the editor did say that United are not satisfied with the goalkeeping sitch and we do have an interest in Begovic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting Ed002, are you implying that there may be an option before him to leave?

Are either Real or Athletico looking to make an offer that you know of?

Thanks,

HBadger {Ed002's Note - This has been done to death already. Try the search function about goalkeepers.}

Agree0 Disagree0

DDG has been better wrt last season. Begovic entry will hamper DDG's progress.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will do Ed, it's jut that DDG has been very impressive of late so thought it may have changed. Thanks anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

DDG I hope is happy here and if so we should stick with him the lad could be the best keeper in the world in a few years time better than everything else in the league including Hart and Cech Begovic is very good but not going to be ten ten keeper in the world any time soon.

I think there are too many rumours flying around for us to dismiss the fact that we are going to sign a CB. I don't think any deal is in place though (as the ed has confirmed). Mangala today is apparently of interest, we have definitley been scouting a lot at Porto. we all thought it would only be for Rodriguez, but could Mangala have been the main person of interest?

Believable8 Unbelievable3

I really hope so, this guy is going to be awesome!

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't help but think that Mangala would be a better option than Garay. Although, I'm not in a well enough informed position to give a fair assesment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh I'm only going by the various reviews I've read. But defo makes more sense, he is only 21 too! The French rave on about him all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kurt Zouma is the man we should Sogn. He's a beast.

Given the Garay rumours and Ed002 now confirming we are looking to close the deal, I must say I am very surprised.

The fact that we have not conceded in something like 500 minutes and the defense and CB's are not the problem.

We also have Smalling, Evans, Jones who need games and it looks like we have an army of defenders.

If true keane's loan spell might be an extended one with him staying with Leicester next year, which is not a bad thing.

It could also mean that we are either selling someone or rio is not renewing. Even with Rio not renewing I am still struggling to see how everyone will get enough games, unless the long term plan for Jones is to play as a defensive midfielder.

Finally, I do hope it is another bs rumour as I would have liked that sort of money spent on a left back.

Shahram {Ed002's Note - Manchester United has been looking for a central defender and perhaps what you are missing is the need to improve the "quality" of players, not simply increase the numbers. Trading up if you like.}

Believable16 Unbelievable2

I would have thought that there were better cheaper, younger options than him. 17m seems expensive for someone who will have little sell on value. Ogbonna, Bouma, Dede, Hummels, Subotic and the boy from shalke all come to Ming before this guy

Agree1 Disagree1

But Ed, is Garay really anything better than what we have already got? {Ed002's Note - Clearly the club are looking at CBs and Garay has interested a number of high-profile clubs including Varcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea - as such clearly there are those that seem him as a good player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Garary would be able to play more games than Rio or Vidic but I don't think he is a better player than either nore will he ever be he is however a better player than Evans Smalling and Jones at center back at the present so I don't think its out of the question that we could sign him although I would be gutted Real would make a profit out of it. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Garay at 26 has been looked at by Chelsea & Barcelona, he is an ex-Real Madrid player so they obviously seen qualities in him. I think at 26 being able to play regularly with Benfica, the penny has dropped for him. Eight years younger than Rio so he has a lot of years left in him i'm sure. He is a ball playing CB so that should indicate the end for Rio as a Manchester United player.

Agree1 Disagree0

I can only assume that this means Rio will not be with us next season. Otherwise a move for Garay would be totally baffling.

@Ed002

Do you think him switching to Mendes recently has something to do with this? {Ed002's Note - No, it simply serves to complicate. Chelsea held discussions before and after he changed agent. It looks like Barcelona will not follow up on their interest as the have other options they are now following up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people have such an opinion as to why Gary would not be suitable enough. I doubt most have even watched much of Benicia? Most people were probably of the opinion that vidic wasn't good enough before we signed him too.

Agree0 Disagree0

They have Sandro, Mangala, Garay, Rodriguez and Moutinho there. We could be scouting any of them.

Dan

Agree1 Disagree1

I think it would be a stretch for your scouts to be watching Benfica games, to judge the performances of Moutinho, Dan. I think you may fall into the category of posters the bloke above you pointed out.

Melbourne CFC {Ed004's Note - Are scouts appear to have been at both Porto and Benfica games recently.}

Agree0 Disagree1

I understand that Ed004, but your scouts haven't been going to Benfica games to scout Moutinho, as Dan suggested.

ED002

I know we were looking at CB when it was not clear if vidic will make a comeback. When you say trading up are we trading up for Ferdinand?

A trade up generally means we you are selling someone and buying better and ferdinand's contract is up at the end of the season so who are we selling?

Shahram {Ed002's Note - I should not have said it if it, like pretty much everything else, causes confusion. Why is the simple process of changing players through a transfer process something that folks want to complicate?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand or believe this story AT ALL. So be interesting to see developments

ED002

Not confusing things but as an avid supporter and follower of the team I can't make any sense of this transfer, given other immediate needs of the team.

Shahram {Ed002's Note - The club has been looking vat centre backs. I will try not to say anything further about the subject then.}

Sources everywhere are claiming that we have agreed a deal for Garay. Do you know if this is true ed? {Ed002's Note - There is no completed deal but Manchester United remain interested in reaching an agreement.}

If we were going to trade up i'd rather get hummels, subotic, papa not garay he's not much better than what we have now and is a waste of fifteen or so million. Like shahram i'd rather that money was spent on a left back which is our only defensive weakness. Or preferably a midfielder or two. Well I guess no midfield signing this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can understand buying a new CB ours get too many injuries seems there is always two injured or more
