its reported in a few other newspapers that lewondski ( excuse the spelling) has made his mind up about where to go, it seems like he might be here at old trafford in the summer. bayern have stepped out of the race so I recon its us but we have 4 strikers how are we going to handle 5?

We could always play 433. Chicharito's going nowhere!

Nooo why would you want him to leave he's scored more than rooney this season! if I had to choose anyone to leave it would be welbeck or put him in a diff position and have wayne, van persie, robert, and chicharito 4 deadly stikerss! mo-21

Which papers are reporting this story? {Ed002's Note - I explained a while back SB that this whole BM and Lewandowski issue is a read herring. MU is the likely destination but now with talk of a number of Germany-based forwards looking like the EPL might be a summer destination he is likely fishing a little.}
Agree1

Fergie has been raving on about the strength of our forward options this season. I really don't buy into this Lewandowski talk. I think we will finally prioritise our midfield.
Ozwald

I really wouldn't mind having him here tbh he runs at players like chicharito but is the finished article imo. also I hope we get our midfield sorted wanyama? strootman? we need someone like that maybe a winger to even though zaha will join we need a player that would run at the opposition which I don't think any of our players have done. except maybe nani recently let's hope he keeps his form going

I am in a bit of a dilemma here. I would love Lewy but I really like Hernandez in the squad. If Lewy does come in what does that mean for Rooney? Does he move into midfield, but then what happens to Cleverleys progression? Zaha coming in must mean Nani goes but then Nani has been superb, but then he could turn bad again at the start of next season if he gets another contract. Valencia has been poor this season but then look what he did last season has he been found out? Should he go instead? If Ronaldo is signed back then surely we can't accommodate Rooney and Kagawa, one will have to move deeper and affect Cleverleys progress. Kagawa out right with Rooney in the middle and Ronaldo left? Then Valencia is sub and Zaha gets no game time! Could rooney play fluid enough footy for Ronaldo and Kagawa on each side?
Many beers have gone by thinking about this and I genuinely think the only solutions would be:
1. Do nothing and keep what we have in the forward department.
2. Any forward signing would mean Rooney should leave regardless if we sell another striker or not.
Unless people are saying Cleverley should not be considered long term then Rooney wouldn't have to be sold and point 2 would be void.
Dan
Agree1

Dan why would we have to sell Rooney if we got Lewan we could play a 4-2-3-1 with Rooney RVP Kagawa behind lewan he does not like to play deep his position is were RVP is now playing and he is much faster than RVP with less ability and can not play deeper I do think players are going but its probably Tony and Nani that are in danger of leaving not Rooney there is also the fact Zaha is coming and he is a player we should all be getting excited about. Katef
Agree0

Sell Rooney to help towards the Ronaldo deal. He can operate in any forward posistion and then we bring in Lewandowski who looks like a top player
Agree0
Disagree0
Kate my point was that Rooney couldn't play the fluid football that Ronaldo has played at Real and Kagawa played at Dortmund. Those players around him all have been and Rooney has not and I don't think he can. We need to start playing more fluid footy.
Dan
Agree0
Disagree0
Dan how many times have you watched Madrid? They don't play what I would class as fluid football? They have 2 good wingers and use them in a direct style of play not what I would term fluid? I think we need a good ball winning cm and 2 good wingers and play the way we used to quick and direct teams couldn't handle us then.

There are sooo many to choose from so I would have to give it greater thought but the first one that always springs to my mind is the Sheringham equalizer in the same game. It has to be that 2 min spell in 1999. I could not watch the match because I had to take violin Lessons. Please, don't ask. I had caught Bayern's goal just before leaving and was sick heading off. When my dad showed up I ran to the car wanting to know what the score was. He said the tv signal is gone but the last time he checked United were one down with 15 min to play. I was devastated, but told him to hit the gas. I ran into the house and tried to perform a kind of exorcism on the box. What happens next, I sh*t you not. When the t. v finally relented and the white noise cleared, I saw one Teddy Sheringham foot swiping at the ball and bedlam ensued. The timing couldn't have been better. I didn't even see Giggs original shot.

Also from the 99 season it has to be the slalom run from giggs, schmeicals save kept us in it and then with 1 man down we saw the goal that set us up for the cl win. If not for that goal and the confidence and belief it gave us I don't think we'd have had the belief to produce the comeback against bayern.

Clearly I'm older than most of you! FA Cup semi final, 1983 vs Arsenal. They scored first and then Robson and Whiteside both scored to secure a 2-1 win. I was 18, it was Villa Park, and all the goals were scored at our end. The atmosphere was unbelievable. Google the game on YouTube.

Most would say the 99 CL final and I will never forget that night
There are a few others, Whiteside scoring at Wembley in 85, Stapleton against Liverpool in 77 but one night stood out from them and that was the moment Stapleton scored the third against Barcelona at OT in 84. For many of us who were there that night it was truly special and at a time when success like that was not common plus Maradona at his peak was on the Barcelona team to witness one of our great nights

Obviously Ole '99, along with all the memories of that season - Giggsy, Keano, Cole-Yorke. I haven't been watching United that long (since 96-97, I think - and not too sure because I have a horrible memory), but some of the recent ones:
1. JT f*&^ing it up at Moscow
2. Machedaaaaa!
3. Mickey Owen, 4-3 mate!
4. Ronnie's specials against Portsmouth, and Arsenal CL semi final
5. Big RVN fan here - the one I remember is against Arsenal again (FA Cup 1-1, if memory serves me right), where he took the ball in his own half, nutmegged fat Sol and put in a classic RVN finish.
6. Rooney's bicycle kick
7. Berbatrick against pool - was at a hotel, missing my friends and family, slightly smoked up, and I remember thinking in my ultra slow-motion state "he's not going to backvolley, is he? FFS, just lay it off!" And then everything erupted!
8. Most recently I went completely mental when Hernandez flew in to score the winner off MC16's brilliant pass against the Geordies. Scared my 4 year old with my reaction, LOL

In a pub full of rowdy rough Arsenal fans on my own I somehow managed to stifle a cheer when Schmeichel savel Berkamps penalty. the Giggs goal though, let's just say I drunk up and left very shortly after that! Also though we went out The Utd v Real game with Ronaldos hat trick, just crazy attacking football at its best. I still believe.5more minutes we would have done it!

I think the 99/00 season gave us so many great moments and great matches. The Champions League final minutes was epic, but the group stages were fantastic from a footballing persepective 2 2-2 draws with Bayern, 2 3-3 draws with Barcelona and then the thrashings handed out to Brondby.
I loved the 5-3 against Spurs with Glen Hoddle saying something like its always dangerous to go 3 up against United, and although we didn't win the tie the mantches against Real Madrid - Redondo leaving Berg was an amazing bit of skill.

For me it was when we played Liverpool at Anfield when Norman Whiteside was a mere boy. he had been getting a bit of a reputation due to his "style" of play and it was all over the papers that Souness was going to tame the bad boy. not long into the match the two had a bit of a tussle and Whiteside nearly cut Souness in half and as he lay on the floor Whiteside just glowered down at him lol

I've already seen it in a previous post but for me, that night against Uventus, away mind going two goaks downt to one of the classiest teams in Europe, we were down and out, pride is all we had to play for. But what haooened next? We pulled off one of the best comebacks I've ever seen live to win 3-2, which incidently set us on course for the glorious treble. The final was amazing, but we had to get there first, and with true grit and determination, that Juventus game will always be special to me

Giggs against Arsenal in the 99 FA Cup semi. Down to 10 men, big Peter saves penalty. 10 men United under the cosh, then Viera's pass is wayward and Giggs picks it up. He runs this way, then that slaloming past defender after defender. Arsenals back 4 back then was a really top back 4 too. On went Giggs, Dixon, Adams etc just can't get near him. Then the finish, a thunderous left foot shot that Seaman didn't even see, let alone save. What a game, what a season, what a goal, what a moment
