Manchester United have announced that they have bought back the sponsorship rights to their training kit.

In 2010, United agreed a £40m deal with DHL, although the club's owners have decided to take the unusual step of buying out the company, as they believe they can acquire even greater revenue.

More recently, United - owned by American family Glazers - have set up a new sponsorship deal worth more than £500m with General Motors who are paying a world record sum to replace AON as shirt sponsors in 2014.

The Old Trafford club said in a statement on Thursday: "We have successfully negotiated an early buy-out of our training kit agreement with DHL effective 30 June, 2013.

"DHL will then continue as our global logistics sponsor.

"The significantly increased value of agreements concluded since entering into this agreement, such as our world record shirt sponsorship with General Motors, leads us to believe that there should be strategic opportunities to further optimise the value of these rights."

what does this mean to us simple people? does it just means were basically giving back dhl their money in order to find a larger sponsorship deal?

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Or may be united already have someone who can pay more so they have an early buy out.
i guess we ll find it out in coming days

Agree0 Disagree0

Means we are have deal that is much bigger than what we were getting from DHL, so it made business sense to buy out of the contract.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd imagine they already have someome willing to pay more lined up.

IrishRed

Agree0 Disagree0

Basically, because the deal with general motors is so enormous, they probably have something similar lined up for the training kit which will put more money in the coffers. for all the bad press these guys are excellent business men, got to give them that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh they have been fantastic with sponsorship deals. Shame it goes to pay off their debt really though aint it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Utd had a new sponsor with Chevrolet already?

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone wondering where the money will actually go? Wouldn't surprise me if the Glazers kept all the cash for themselves. Business sense would be to clear the debt with it and invest what was left in midfield and centre defence!

hey Ed's is there anything new on thomas ince? Are we genuinely interested? I heard everton scouted him mid week. {Ed001's Note - no, yes, and yes they have been watching him a while.}

Ed's is there any firm interst from man utd for Alen Halilovic, and have we also ended our pursuit of Mateo Kovacic? These players seem class {Ed002's Note - Dinamo Zagreb's Halilovic is attracting the attention of many of Europe's leading side including Real Madrid (who have had an offer turned down), Juventus, Ajax, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. A move to England in the short term is unlikely due to his age. Try the search function for Kovacic - there is nothing new.}

Sven bendtner.
Single answer to our weak midfield. Can play makeshift centerback if needed. ( unlike carrik) . We can easily say that he is unhyped version of javi martinez. I wanted javi to join but now no hope of that. I see this guy as aalll in one package. We are playing dimond and what not this season.. but we look sharp when we shift to our old 4 4 2.
So a guy like him sitting on top of back four while rest 5 attaking would do the trick.

Believable11 Unbelievable3

I have no idea who Sven Bendtner is. Nicklas Bendtner's brother or something?

Do you mean Dortmund's solid defensive midfielder? Actually he can't play as a centerback, just like Carrick.

He's a bender....not a bendtner

Jurgen Klopp looks more and more like a potential successor to Fergie with each Dortmund match I see. He is without a doubt one of the best managers in the world already. He has brought Dortmund from an average midtable team, to winning back to back Bundesliga's and beating Real Madrid in the Champions League, all while playing great football. The success has come from youth and getting some real gems in the transfer market. I know you all dream of seeing United play the same way Dortmund did against City. Simple question. Right now, who would you take? Klopp, Guardiola or Mourinho? I'm leaning towards the German.

Honestly for me guardiola has had a huge challenge the talent crop he had made available to him it was inevitable to win. while mourinho is a great tactician he requires millions to fund his projects, i think klopp for us wud be the best option, mourinho would act bigger than the club and with guardiola we'd be expecting barca style play immediately which wont happen with the players we've got. if i had to choose a manager to manage us next season id choose klopp but if fergie retired 3 years from now id have to consider it abit more!

If its one of these three I'd be very happy. I really hope it will be Guardiola.

But Klöpp looks like the real deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great manager but seriously.... Why would he want to leave a club on the rise which is full of class players to come to a club straddled with debt with owners who are NOT willing to put there own money into the club....
My preference for next manager would be Mourinho (the only guy with an ego big enough to take over from Fergie) BUT would he want to come to us....

I believe Klopp also has a relegation on his CV so we need to be a little wary. He is definitely ensuring Dortmund are playing a fantastic brand of successful football but did he build all these players or has he been lucky to be there at the right time when they came through at once.

He certainly has long term potential but I would be concerned for him to be SAFs immediate successor, that carries a massive weight, beyond what most can comprehend. I would still go for Mourinho because of his supreme confidence and see whether he is long term. That would give more time to assess Klopp who for now has an element of risk.
That said SAF is still there and we can only hope he doesn't leave it too late

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Right now I still prefer Mourinho. AVB was a young manager with a team playing some if the best football in Europe also. Look how that has turned out recently, he is still early in his career granted but just because it works in one place doesn't necessarily mean it can be replicated elsewhere.

It has to be mourinho for me,he has done it everywhere he's been,i don't buy in to him having to spend millions at all,if u want to be the best u have to buy class,he know's how to build a winning team just like saf does, joeyored

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely joeyred. Mourinho didn't have millions to work with at Porto. Did the uefa followed by the champions league. Money or less of it, he gets success everywhere and we will need continuity when SAF steps aside to a project.

Supasub

Herbie, are Dortmund's owners willing to put their hand in their pockets or do they let the club pay for their players like we do? The way it should be done.

I do not want a penny from the Glazers and when we do come through our 'decade of debt' we can hold our heads up high and say we did it without the help of a sugar daddy.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah agreed Syd. Look at our potential revenues from 2013: The Chevrolet sponsorship (shirt and motor), a new Nike deal thought to be over 80m a year, a 70% increase in PL tv rights as well as many other new smaller sponsorship deals will likely increase our revenue by 100m within 3 years. Imagine what you could do with that extra 100m!

Herbie are you having a laugh? You're asking why an upcoming manager would not like to be in charge of Manchester United if offered? I'm starting to think you don't support this club. One of Klopps greatest strengths is bringing in young talent for a minimal fee and turning them into great players. Also with the recent success in Europe for him he knows how to set up his team for a given oppent. I think at OT he'll be definitely be considered in the running.

I am a big fan of Mourinho! Ppl can say he spent millions but only at Chelsea! Inter Milan he had to buy and sell! Madrid had millions to spend but it wasn't his decisions to buy them players! He just last season got control of who Madrid should buy and he bought modric from spurs with levy the money hungry stingy guy! Mourinho has proven everywhere he has and he gets te team full of confidence and gets results! Plus he wants along term job in the premiership now as he has been around and now would want to settle down! Mourinho should defiantly b the only one to replace SAF!

I genuinely think the answer to our 'defensive' midfielder is Rafael. I think he'd play just like Witsel and we have a replacement in Smalling or his brother. I'd love to have him involved more and I now think he has the maturity and class to play there. I know he has before and it wasn't exactly successful but you could say the same thing about Rooney dropping back a little bit.

Believable3 Unbelievable53

Couldn't agree more I made this sugesstion a while ago and just got shot down I think fabio would be the more likely to play there but I think SAF would be better to try tunnicliffe there first!

I would think Valencia could play that role as well, as we have seen enough times his defending is good, hs quick, strong on the ball n also plays in the middle for ecuador, jst not defensively. Could provide the driving force while attacking the way toure does for city. SAF mentioned before that Valencia can play in many different positions

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't he play midfield last season in the 3-2 home defeat by bottom of the table Blackburn and was rubbish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely not, outrageous post! Good try though.
