Ed02 - lots of reports about de Ligt - is there any truth in us pushing for a deal to be done / it being very close?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club have been approached to say they can significantly increase the offer to the player and Barcelona will step back as they don't see the value - but the player will be told it is now or never for Barcelona as they will move on. Could be a very expensive mistake brining him to England and could cause a senior departure at the club.}

26 May 2019 10:10:42
Can I ask who the senior departure is.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I said "could".}

26 May 2019 10:20:45
Good not one person at that club I would be concerned about leaving player or staff.

26 May 2019 10:24:42
Woukd this be a Woodward signing and not OGS?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - What?}

26 May 2019 10:39:43
Hey Ed,
Why do you suggest this would be a mistake?

High risk due to age and financial commitment?

Or bringing in a young player to a club that is a bit of mess just now?

To flip that:
Utd need leaders, a good CB, Ole wants youth so would seem a good move but a big step up (which the best players from the Netherlands have made: RvP, RvN, Stam, Suarez, Robben to name few but there's plenty of Ryan Babels, Afonso Alves etc.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothiong to suggest that the player gives value for the money that Barcelona have agreed to pay and certainly not more - hence if Manchester United decide to make any outrageous bid Barcelona will step back and in all probability the kid's future career will be trashed.}

26 May 2019 10:45:18
Ed,
Do you think the club are repeating the same mistakes by overpaying for someone they shouldn’t and making other players unhappy? Your use of the word “significantly increase” makes me wonder if its the same/ similar situation as Sanchez?
Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No it is a different situation to Sanchez and as I have explained this was simply part of the deal sufggested to the club - and as far as I am aware it is not a done deal or anything like that.}

26 May 2019 10:50:10
The kid is 19, are we really sure we want to spend mega money on him? I’m not saying he isn’t a good player or won’t turn out to be a great player but he’s still a big risk. He’s played on the Dutch League, remember Depay and Ed saying it was too soon for him to move? Ajax to United is a big step and not just on the pitch.

Now being reported that Utd are not interested in the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So the whole thing is a smokescreen perhaps?}

26 May 2019 11:11:33
With what you are having to pay for a player in today's market.
Rather take a punt with de ligt then Ramos.

Also no one expects them to win the title but get back into champions league.
As long as OGS gets the players he wants that are young and hungry and want to play for the club. Few old heads to guide the younger players will be proper ready for 20/ 21

Manchester United have to build from the base and there is no quick fix.
They have great youth coming though and to mix with few signing I am going with half full rather then half empty.
Yes there is also dead wood that needs to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Ramos? You are clearly living in a very strange world.}

26 May 2019 11:35:51
So if Barcelona sign him he’s a good signing, if united sign him he’s not worth it, sounds about right to me. Sick of the whole window to be honest, can’t trust any journalists and loads of them totally contradicting each other. United are in desperate need of a leader and a top centre half, De Ligt is obviously a good player, we could certainly do a lot worse and not being in the CL again is going to mean we need to overpay.

My plan would be to be sensible with signings that get us back into the top 4 rather than trying for the quick fix immediately and overpaying for players who might not be worth it to try and get immediate success, but the club don’t even seem to do what I want so just have to grin and bear it.

Hi Ed, why would you say his future could be trashed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Moving to a club like Manchester United at a young age can easily foul up a prospectively good career - Mephis Depay is another example.}

26 May 2019 12:16:24
Smokescreen for Gimenez.

26 May 2019 12:19:38
I hear Marcos Rojo would like to stay, be like a new signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is very difficult to sell as he would be excluded from moving to certain countries - but the club would like to move him on - although the manager may want to keep him.}

26 May 2019 12:44:01
Something tells me this is going to be a rollercoaster window😂 cheers for all the insight Ed002.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 May 2019 13:10:51
Wouldn't say strange world, but with way over priced players are at least with a younger player you can mold over a period of time. He has leadership, vision, and can only get better he is only 19.

Ramos is not going to leave RM unless he gets kicked out. He is after a pay increase.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 May 2019 13:12:47
What is the main issue in selling Marco's Rojo.
Age, attitude, wages etc?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The main issue will be finding a club who wants him.}

26 May 2019 13:13:11
Fair play ed002. Great insight.

26 May 2019 13:20:28
I wait every summer window to see who uses the word “smokescreen” first. I didn’t think it would be you 002 😂.

Surely moving to Barcelona could cause de Ligt the same issues Ed as they are a huge club?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, they manage players well. Else they will move them on if they don’t work out.}

26 May 2019 14:12:41
It could easily not work out for him at Barcelona like it could with us. Coutinho and Dembele are perfect examples who went for huge transfer fees to Barcelona and it hasn't worked out.

So Rojo made a few comments and thinks he's in the clubs plans.
He probably either injured himself walking out the interview or two footed the journo.

Fair point ed.

In recent years Utd's development of purchased youth has been poor but if we are aiming to get back to the good ol' days there was a young CB who arrived from Leeds for a lot of money who was young and not yet develop. He turned out ok.

I think he would be a great signing but we need patience. Would be amazing to buy Toby Alderweireld to play with him and Lindelof.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I am sure he will be great when he arrives.}

26 May 2019 20:02:04
Why would you not spend 65m on De Ligt everyone should see how good he has been this season in both boxes and is comfortable on the ball. we spend 70m on Lindelof and Bailly. to get De Ligt for 65m is great business and he would be our centre half for 10 years.

27 May 2019 11:42:41
I’m sure the wages that we would have to offer to get Beat Barcelona to MDL would be the final nail in the coffin regarding DDG talks.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2019 16:35:28
I think if DDG was to sign he’d have done it a while ago.

27 May 2019 18:14:03
I’d be against spending the type of money and salary that we are being rumoured to offer.
He’s 19 years old and needs guidance career wise and making the jump to a bigger club.
Does anyone honestly see our current coaching staff being able to help him improve as a player, or would he be a flash in the pan?
Also concerning if we are offering over £200k a week for him at 19, what would he be wanting when his contract needs renewing?

Agree1 Disagree1

28 May 2019 22:43:28
De Light has all the attributes to reach the very top of the game. If we can offload some dead wood and there is a willingness to come to OT we would be crazy not to sign him.

Been on this website for many and keep up the good work Ed's.

Ramos is looking at a pay rise and isn't looking to leave.
