Interesting article in The Sunday Times according to MEN:

"It also claims United tried to gazump Real Madrid's ultimately successful £85m bid for Gareth Bale last year and will this summer look to move for Edinson Cavani, Cesc Fabregas, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane."

Also several articles speculating about LVG's preference for pressing down the wings (ie Robben/Ribery at BM, Figo at FCB): can see him wanting Reus if everything to be believed.

Exciting times, though huge overhaul needed in the summer: hope LVG sets up new regime to pass onto Giggs in few years time.

Largely agree Wallace. I can't see LVG going for Cavani though. Personally I think his targets will be Shaw, Hummels, Strootman, Kroos and Reus. I think Hummels may be difficult to get as he has said that he wants CL football but would he realise it would only be a year without it? Varane would be a brilliant alternative. Obvious question marks over the fitness of Strootman but that would ultimately be van Gaal's decision - he certainly rates him very highly. Fabregas would be the alternative to Kroos and don't see Lallana coming if I am honest. He would never play.

What worries me with keep being linked to Cavani etc is it makes it appear Woody is trying to make a stellar signing whether we need it or not

Pardoe, my worry too. But surely Vidal would be a stellar signing AND plug a hole that has been leaking for years.

Hi Ed, I know you a said that you didn't think we were interested in Sead Kolasinac of Shalke but I read today that he said he has an offer from us. Is he just angling for a better contract at Shalke?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know - but it would of course be the end of any interest in Shaw if true.}

I really hope this Shaw deal is wrapped up soon, he could be our left back for the next 10 years at least.

He wouldn't be brought in as number 1 so wouldn't effect the Shaw transfer according to media today, we have to wait and see.

I'm always a bit sceptical when a player/agent comes out and says another team has made an offer for them. Simply put why would they come out and say that? Maybe he was naive or too honest. Or maybe he was just looking to stir the water a little bit and see what presents itself.

On the other hand if we were interested I would be very happy to see him a red. He's a fine young player, reminds me a bit of Ivanovic, only a bit quicker - very intelligent movement and positioning. Obviously if I had to pick between him and Shaw I'd pick Shaw, but only really on the virtue he's English. This guy would probably cost half as much and we could easily make him as good if not better.
