anyone think roberto martinez as a future manager? Sets his teams out to try and play the right way. Might need to go to another team inbetween as a step up. Would have been interesting if he'd gone to villa.

Believable6 Unbelievable27

Haha thats funny.... HERBIE

Oh sorry were you serious??? NO.... HERBIE

Agree0 Disagree0

I do love the way his teams try and play, and the players always seem to have a lot of respect for him. I also like the way he always defends his team and sticks up for them in the media, very Fergie like in that respect. There was talk when Carlos Quieroz left United last time that Fergie had his eyes on him as his new number two, but Martinez was manager of Swansea at the time so i'd imagine he'd have found it being a backward step going from manager to an assistant. I think he's good but i think you're right he'd need to be succesful at a bigger club before he'd be in contention for United and gain a lot more experiance, including Europe. Don't forget also that if it weren't for N'Zogbia's last minute goal with two games left last season, Wigan probably would have got relagated and he'd probably be out of a job by now Fine Lines

man utd to bid £10mil for jack rodwell+gibson or diouf. i think it is wirth it as we are building a team for the future

Believable16 Unbelievable12

Think it will be 15m + Diouf and maybe Macheda on loan too. They are short of strikers. Rodwell is going to be a good player and Fergie will pounce if he thinks Everton are selling

Agree0 Disagree0

We could swop Macheda and Gibson and 55p, get rid of 2 useless players and be left with just one Lulu. Rodwell can't even get in the Everton team and you want him at OT. Cut all the rubbish adrift, Macheda the one goal wonder,(couldn't score one goal for relegated Sampdoria). Gibson - I've got a hard shot, shame it always finishes up by the corner flag and the Everton rubbish youth can all play out their careers at Huddersfield or Rangers.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell is over-rated in my eyes. £10 million without a player going the other way aswell is a realistic bid for him in my eyes.

Interesting news (well kind of) regarding the on-going business with Manchester United and Sunderland. Steve Bruce looking to bolster his striker, looking for a clinical proven finisher. This could spark a late deal seeing Owen off to the stadium of light.
Not so sure he'd be a loss to us or whether he has the fitness to be playing week in week out in the PL either though. Maybe they could take Gibson aswell
PPP

Believable6 Unbelievable13

Has Gibson broke his foot or just injured his ankle?

Agree0 Disagree0

That deal would also free up the number 7 jersey for Sneijder. Happy days.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that United and Sunderland relations will probably result in a solution to Sunderland's striking problems however, I think it's more likely to be Macheda or Diouf that will solve them, not Michael Owen. Why would Owen want to move? And why would we want him to? Gets paid very little, not bothered about playing a lot but quality when needed.

And it's reported that Gibson is going to continue to play, even with fractures to the predominant instrument used for playing the beautiful game, because it hasn't effected the way he plays the game.

Jack

Agree0 Disagree0

Owen's just signed a new 1 year deal at United. Why would he sign this deal and then get sold to Sunderland? or anyone else for that matter?

League matches have been postponed not friendlys. First thing Thursday morning I'm going to old Trafford and getting my new shirt with 9 Sneijder on the back

Believable11 Unbelievable15

Rooneys number 9, wesly will not come in coz we have pogba, morrison, cleverly coming through anderson stepping up his game ans looks a great player carrick n fletcher doin ok so where would he fit in?

Agree0 Disagree0

Are any of you actually United fans?

Sneijedr is not coming, end of, so forget about him, you'll be much happier come 11pm on Wednesday.

Secondly Rooney wears number 10, Berbatov wears 9.

I wouldn't waste your money on that mate Sneijder won't be coming, Berbatov will be staying aswell. Nani 17 is what you want... this lad will hit top form this season to keep Valencia on the bench.

in a weeks time we gonna know or not smokescreens or straight talking and we haven't had a lot of that. Window shut. Sneijder seemed the obvious choice to inspire and push the new generation through but it isn't to be. Or is it? I don't care please shoot me. But lets get this straight. Goetze da costa kagawa adams my left foot would not make us beat barce not yet anyway. The hope lies in most with what we already have pogba cleverly anderson tunnecliff the new generation..they have to develop they have to play. I really am not bothered if we stay this way. Its a work in progress that i'm happy to watch unfold. Look at barces model. Besides anyone who says we haven't improved, we're more fluid possesion is better goals more creative more interchanging up front bags more energy. Am i missing something? Its better. Won every game since the barce game in a style and manner befitting our club which is unheard of yeah yeah friendlies but they can be lost and in the past have been. It's true the mid looks light but less can be more. If we allow for inconsistancy now for a great team to grow together then let it be done. I say again barce had the same players before they dominated. They developed and dominated. And is cleverly anderson pogba tunnecliff morrison going to give us a world class midfield? Yes yes f***ing yes. I know some are disappionted. Feel like the fans have been mucked around this window. But anything said about the kids has been understated. Try enjoy it. Lets get behind this project. Besides if its a three four year last alex team. There's still windows for your goetzes kagawas there not retiring any time soon. Let cleverly and anderson show what they can do with a bit of faith Constantine red

Believable22 Unbelievable5

Ok lets get this straight. If Utd played Cleverley and Anderson against Xavi and Iniesta.....who will win?

If you play Sneijder and Anderson.....much closer trust me

Im a believer in fergie and his young guns they have always proved fruitful and i want them to play as much as possible.

But fact is playing alongside Sneijder will not only benefit them, but it will reap us rewards.

The package may be costly but this one time i think it will be worth it.

Agree0 Disagree0

No I dont think they would but the team has potential as a unit to eclipse barce. xavi and iniesta had to develop. be better to be the team to take them down head to head but maybe just the team that picks up the baton. Barce didnt unseat anyone. anyway i agree in principle but as it doesnt look like its forthcoming. then more game time to anderson and cleverly the better. Still sure there is more to come from cleverly especially. anyway the key to beating barce is being better with possesion. I think we have improved. I think they will suprise most with what achieve this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, we definitely have improved and i believe the only way we can get better as a team is by giving youngsters first team experience.

I think Xavi was really written off according to (seedforf i think dont quote me on that) when he first played for Barca, but as he played more and more he developed in to a world class player.

Fergie is the man for breeding young talent so i have faith.

Interesting interview on skysports website with Hargreaves , he offered to play for Utd for nothing but SAF turned him down saying he wanted to bring the younger players into the side.

He says he'll play 40 games this season, good luck to him I still think we could do with him

Pardoe

Believable22 Unbelievable3

I very much doubt he will play 40 games this season, or even 20. however, if he did offer to play for free and we don't bring in a CM then maybe it would have been wise to keep hold?

i still think there will be an amazing twist to the transfer window on the last day, it would not surprise me if the pull a surprise out of the bag and sign someone that no one has thought off, would still like it to be either sneijder or gotze but would just be happy to see a world class midfielder sign,

on another note think it will be

MAN UTD 4 ARSENAL 0

UNITEDFORLIFE

Believable9 Unbelievable7

Utd are still short in the midfield. Cleverley is one for the future and we still haven't got a scoring midfielder like Nasri or Lampard. Even the scousers have recruited midfielders. I hope that Sir Alex proves us all wrong again but if we are to compete in the CL we need world class players at the club NOW. I hate to say it but Citeh have done good business. If we had signed Sneijder it would have turned a good close season into a great one and sent the message that Utd are still the ones to beat.

I think people need to pull in the reins a bit about Pogba. He has a wonderful career ahead of him but he's still a year or more off challenging for a first team spot. I hope he gets the odd cup game or if the champions league group is wrapped up then a run out in that but if he was going to figure at all he would of been in the squad for the US tour.

Mumbles

Believable22 Unbelievable2

I did find it pretty strange that he didn't play in any of the games on tour, however he played a bit in scholes's testimonial.. not that it's a competitive game or anything..

Agree0 Disagree0

He's got bundles of potential but only time will tell. We've seen lots of young lads with plenty of that who've crumbled with the pressure of playing at Old Trafford, but he's certainly got every chance of making it from what i've seen of him. Don't forget though its not only people on here who are talking him up, there's also the Manager and the likes of Scholes talking him up too. I think people are just excited by the potential they see in him.

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

Its just people saying "We dont need Sneijder, we have Cleverley, Anderson and Pogba coming through" I just find it a bit naive to be honest. I know you can miss the boat when bringing a player through and leave it too late but you can also bring him through too early. Maybe reserve team football will do him good and training with the main team will help him develop quicker than say a loan move to the Championship would.

Mumbles

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what you mean, as well as those players have done in the first few games we're still definatley a quality midfielder short. For the majority of games this season we'll be fine with what we've got, but for some of our tougher away games and champions league matches those lads are a bit short of the experiance and quality that's needed. I think you're right with Pogba i'd be suprised if we saw him more than 3 or 4 times this season, so a loan to the Championship might do him some good, although Fergie might rather keep hold of him till at least xmas.

Andy B

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Mumbles if SAF seriously thought of him as a 1st team member this year - he would have been involved in the pre season. he looks a very promising talent, and i for one have high hopes for the boy - but we just dont know how things will go until he's played a few games for the firsts......

Hi Guys

It appears there are 2 Bazza's on here so to be able to identify us I shall post as Bazza the Red.

Now thats out of the way I have read on here that many of you think that Fergie's words of no more signings is a smokescreen. While I hope you all are right I actually think that he is telling the truth.I think if there was something in the pipeline then certainly the press, other people in the media or all those on here with so called contacts within the club would know about it.I also understand that things can happen very quickly but we don't seem to do our business like that.So unless there is a surprise on the way I think what we've got is what we have and we need to get behind the lads and back them all the way.
For what its worth I really hope we get Sneider or Goetze but it isn't going to happen.

Finally I think we will win 3-1 tomorrow.

Bazza The Red

Believable8 Unbelievable5

The media never knew anything about Hernandez. And Smalling was kept fairly quiet as well, so i'm hoping its one of those, but i really am just hoping.

Rincewind

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, no one knows but thats the beauty of it makes it exciting and bloody annoying at the same time ha

i honestly think that the only person worth buying is sneijder because he has so much more to offer us, than any of our other targets. He'd improve the quality of our team for sure, the other younger ones (gotze, ganso etc are young and could take a while to adapt).

Also it makes me wonder how you think arsenal will score against us when we kept a clean sheet against tottenham? bearing in mind arsenal are struggling like a homeless drug addict at the moment..

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Oswald
quite simply because a goal can be scored out of absoloutley anything and Arsenal do have some quality going forward.Surely the main thing is I think we will comfortably and not how many Arsenal score

Agree0 Disagree0

Bazza Im with you on this one. Rumours/stories/leaks around OT have gone real quiet allof a sudden.....cant see any shock signings now sorry guys

Believable12 Unbelievable9

I'm looking forward to Pogba playing in our first team, he's a big lad and will munch people in the middle of the pitch

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you say Pogba will shock the prem, he's only just been promoted to reserve team games, he's played at youth level most of the time. I agree he looks great at that level, but there have been loads of great youth cup winners, who didn't make it in the prem let alone at the great Man Utd.Saying he's going to amaze the prem this season is like putting your salary on a 66/1 outsider. Of course outsiders do come in sometimes and I hope he does, but this season he'll get a couple of sub roles and the odd league cup outing. He's great against 16 -18 year old boys, only time will tell what he's like against the elite men

I believe we will suffer in the middle of the park against the likes of Chelsea and city. We need experience in there and for me Scotty Parker is the man for a few years until cleverly has a real good run in the team. Anderson needs to keep his displays up but falls short every year towards the back end of the season. And for me fletcher and carrick r defo not the answer. One more signing in the middle then were complete it's a new era another ten or so great years and more trophies in the cabinet.

Believable17 Unbelievable11

So what you're saying is that if we don/t sign a central midfielder we will suffer for years but if we do buy someone (scott parker?) We'll have 10 years at the top? It's a squad game, personally I think Fletcher is a good enough player.

Agree0 Disagree0

NO SCOTT PARKER, we don't need him for sht right now, fletcher has just come back and we have carrick too.. would be wasted money and you know it

Agree0 Disagree0

Look Scot parker isnt the answer, hes poxy,we do need a world class experienced midfielder in there, such as sweinsteiger or sneijder, that would cement things together n give us every chance in europe and pl for the nxt 5 yrs,but sadly fergie is too stubborn sometimes

SUPER RED

Agree0 Disagree0

We are looking to sign one more player, and that is Mario Gotze. Its in the balance whether or not we sign him in this window, but he is going to be a quality player in the future and I for one would rather sign a young prodigy than an aging maestro.... Wages will be sub 70k too.

UNITED_LEGENDS

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not saying Parker is the answer, I just feel we need a bit of a tackler / hardpan to break the play up. We have enough play makers for me, we need to replace keano which we have never done, and yeah Parker couldn't lace lesbos boots up but he a good defensive midfielder and isn't scared of pitting his foot in. Fletcher just runs and runs that's not a great footballer and certainly not a man utd player. However I do still think we will win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tiote at 24 and brimming with muscle and hard tackles may be, buy 30 year old Parker - give me a break. As for aiding Cleverley with his game, that b*****xs. They are absolutely different type of players.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2011 11:04:06
I have just heard this: we have made a move for Mario Gotze, HOWEVER it is not for this transfer window. We have apparently bought rights to first refusal on his contract which is to the player's consent for around £900 000. This means that, should someone else try and sign him, we have the right to do so before if we offer a similar deal. So chances are we will be signing him within the next year and a half, not this season though.

Believable11 Unbelievable16

To the poster

First refusal is an interesting proposition however my question is that if Goetze has another sparkling season what good is first refusal if City/Real/Barca bid £40M next summer? So we have first refusal at £40M and as we dont appear to wish to spend large values on one player no doubt Goetze would be another major player lost to a rival in that scenario.

There is a window now, in that Barca, Madrid and City appear to have finished spending. If we dont take advantage now then chances are they would be interested in another window.

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi (this is the original poster)

Indeed it is interesting, I really don't know why United would do this because there appears to be no point if SAF isn't going to buy at the high price he will command. However, the one thing that I can see from this is that as Gotze is apparently our fan he would be tempted to persuade his club to sell him for cheap.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't remember United ever doing this kind of business. It's not SAF's way of doing things. But I may be wrong, anyone refresh my memory?

Agree0 Disagree0

(Again, Original Poster here)

That is true, its not really his way of doing things. However, perhaps the power is beginning to shift at our club, SAF can't go on forever. Perhaps he is just setting the stage for another manager to make the decision when the time comes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have never heard an EPL club ever doing a deal like this. It may happen elsewhere, but I would check your source, to see if it's reliable. It sounds highly dubious to me. The chances of Goetze joining an English club in the next 2-3 seasons are just about zero. This guy has often said he wants to stay in Germany and eventually maybe go to Spain. I know he said "he was flattered to be considered by Real, Barca and us", but that was just being polite to an English Journalist. Our best hope of a midfield addition is Ganso in January and that is unlikely as he wants Milan. Other than that it's steady as she goes. Which to me means "we are happy winning the prem again and leaving Europe for another 2-3 seasons". Cleverley, Anderson, Carrick and Fletcher just don't cut it against the real best. As for Pogba, Tunnicliffe and the rest who knows, they look really good at youth and reserve level, but that's a universe away from the champions league. Oh well I waited 26 years to win the league, what another 5 years for the next champions league
