ed
you was saying today will be an important day and things will become clearer regarding transfers of some major players and some might be heading towards united is there any updates on that?

love the site btw
cheers in advance

{Ed002's Note - Everyone is aware where Manchester United wish to be. That is clear to all. Vidal remains a target but you get a chance to grope him when the price is agreed. I suspect a line will be drawn in one or two days and MU will turn elsewhere (Carvalho). Blind remains in the ether - very much a maybe.}

27 Aug 2014 23:28:21
If we get Vidal and blind I will grope myself! Lol

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If Vidal signs for Utd it will be reach-a-rounds for everyone from Ed004! The last time he was this excited was last month when I let him sniff one of Ed002's bras.}

I would prefer carvalho a bit of steel in our midfield and maybe help out our weak defenders some :)

Agree1 Disagree2

Ed I have read that Sporting are now not so bullish about the price for Carvalho do you know if that is true?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - See above.}

Ed do you think we will agree a acceptable fee for vidal?, and do you think we will sign a cb because I really think we need one! i'm presuming blind will sign how many more to follow do you think?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - See above.}

Daily mail reporting that our excellent relationship with Carvalho's agent Jorge Mendes (big cheeses smiles in car with LVG after DM transfer!) and the price drop - and concern over Vidal's knee - could mean bid for him. Reckon Ed002 is on the money again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed, are the three of Blind, Vidal and Carvalho the players we are pushing for? Is there any names that were previously mentioned that we can now say we have no change of agreeing a deal?

Ed002~telegraph reporting that Carvalho shares same agent as Di Maria and talks about Carvalho took place during Di Maria sale. Any substance to this to your knowledge? Carvalho linked mostly with Arsenal all summer and more recently with Chelsea. Any idea why he hasn't gone to either of those clubs? Love all the red writing this summer so big thanks.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No0 idea. But there have been talks in the past couple of days.}

Hi Ed if you're around,

I understand Manchester United are very much in favour of, and a principle driving force behind the pan European league concept. Does David Gill still represent the club in any capacity for such discussions? I have been told in the past he has chaired meetings on the matter

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Maybe one day Mr Gill will have a much higher profile job. We should wait and see.}

When is carrick due back from injury?

Believable1 Unbelievable9

He had surgery on his ankle ligament injury 6 weeks ago tomorrow (Thursday, July 17th), and was rumoured to be out 10-12 weeks.
So that has him returning at some point in October - depending on how quickly he rehabilitates.

Agree0 Disagree0

I work in a bar which many of the united players frequent, and Carrick was there for the bank holiday party we threw. He was still in a cast, so I wouldn't expect any time soon. Incidentally, Fellaini was there too and I didn't see them so much as look at each other the whole night. He was on the other side of the place with Everton players. Take from this what you will

Alonso will be moving from Real to Bayern. What are the chances that Real will move for Vidal to replace him?

It would be the ultimate kick in the teeth if Real ended up using some of the Di Maria money to fund a move for the player we actually needed. I suspect we'll find out soon enough. Unlike us - Real get things done quickly.

Believable13 Unbelievable6

Would they replace Alonso having already signed Kroos earlier in the window? Is Alonso leaving because of the Kroos signing or are RM selling Alonso and looking to replace him?

Agree2 Disagree1

That really would stick it in and break it off especially with Guarin going to Juve(allegedly)

Agree0 Disagree0

That's probably why they give Modric a new deal last week, so when they sign Vidal he doesn't kick up a fuss and try and force a move.

Agree0 Disagree2

Deyno - It's hard to say. Alonso is getting on a bit now and the word is that he asked to leave. He signed a new three year contract last season and he's been a fantastic player for them - so I imagine they will have wanted to keep him. There's a chance it's because he was worried about his game time next season but I imagine he wanted to get one more big contract in before hanging up his boots.

Assuming that Bale, Ronaldo, Rodriguez and a striker (Falcao) are going to be first choice - RM currently have Modric, Kroos, Illarramendi and Khedira battling it out for 2 midfield spots (I think Isco would be back-up for Rodriguez).

Khedira looks like he'll leave in the next twelve months and so I expect he'll be used as backup rather than being first choice. Illarramendi made a fair few appearances last season but wasn't particularly impressive and I don't see him having a long term future with the club despite his hefty price-tag. That leaves Kroos and Modric as first choice and adequate cover in Khedira and Illarramendi.

I don't think Real need Vidal - but I can very much see them signing him. It's a very 'Real' thing to do. The thought of Falcao, Bale, Ronaldo, Rodriguez, Kroos and Vidal in the same team is frightening though. Probably the best and deadliest front six ever assembled.

Agree0 Disagree1

I thought that money is going to the falcao transfer

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure the money they get from us is going on the falcao move

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not be at all surprised if they take Falcao on loan for the season for a fee with a view to buying him outright next season. Either way Falcao will not cost £64m. I expect he could be signed for between £40m and £50m. We will see shortly.

You can call this as or exclusive or wateva, but Arturo Vidal to MU is a deal done. We will see the developments in next 48 hrs or so

Hope so.

And if we don't what's your excuse?

Freddy Guarin rumoured to be going to Juventus. Hopefully a replacement for Vidal.

I hope this is the case.

I was under the impression he was close to a move to Zenit!

I've heard a whispering that we've shown an interest in otamendi! Has any of the eds heard anything. ( I guess it might be just another name but thought I'd share either way)

Believable3 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

27 Aug 2014 16:34:24
Ed lots of reports today in press and websites about a deal for vidal being agreed has there been any developments?
Does anyone else think it's a bit disappointing that sky think a measure of the epl success is the amount Of money spent, I know we all want money spent and players brought in but just imagine if that was invested in english football or more youth development.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There is no agreement between the clubs at this time.}

Who cares if its English or not? English players are highly over priced as it is

Do you believe United will make another offer before the deadline on Monday, 002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sure. They would like a deal.}

Just been told off a good friend (who has a few good connections) that Juventus want Kagawa as part of any Vidal potential deal. Patrice Evra has apparently been raving about Shinji, and his suitability to the Italian game - which on reflection l, I would have to agree with. I think Kagawa would become a star in the Italian league. Their slower paced, technically favourable game would be right up his street.

Interesting if true!

Believable29 Unbelievable19

I was having this very conversation yesterday. Kagawa would be great in Italy and is wasted with us. If we offered Kagawa, Hernandez and £10m I can't see Juve turning it down.

Agree0 Disagree2

I think Kagawa is a good player and on the whole has been played out of position a lot but, it might be time for him to go, we've got too many no10s

Agree1 Disagree0

After last nights game and his lack of ability to play a 5 yard ball to a team mate I can't see Henandez having a place either in the squad.

Agree2 Disagree0

SSN are just reporting that Kagawa has been offered to Valencia, decision tomorrow

Agree0 Disagree0

Valencia have pennies to spend.

Agree0 Disagree1

Valencia have a new billionaire owner, Syd.

Agree1 Disagree1

Offering Juve Kagawa, Hernandez and £10million would be no good to them, would it? Aren't they struggling financially? Wouldn't it be better for Woodward to offer them what they want for the player and stop messing about like he did last summer with Fabregas and Thiago?

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what he was referring to Frink.

I think the game changed for the worse when Kagawa came off last night. I've always been a huge fan but the thing that annoys me the most is since he moved to us he seems to have lost a bit of fight and determination on and off the ball, especially running with the ball at his feet, just never tries it. Such a shame and maybe it is time for him to move on for that reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Kagawa be so suited to Italy?

He was great in Germany, which is more like the EPL than Italy.

Apparently Januzaj was the player Juventus wanted initially. Reports earlier today have said Vidal has said goodbye to his teammates.

Any word on rojo getting a work permit to play on sat and any word on vidal and blind

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I've seen a few articles about Rojo facing a possible jail term, I wander if this is anything to do with a hold up on the work permit?

Agree0 Disagree0

I hardly think we would spent this amount on someone that was possibly going to jail, although I don't know exactly what happened as I wasnt there I would stake a good wedge of money on this incident being blown way out of proportion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Either way, the delay doesn't help us one bit. Actually couldn't have come at a worse time really! With our defence looking as poor as it does.
I agree though, I am sure we would have done the research before splashing the cash.

Evening Ed. You've mentioned Wednesdays get together of clubs to discuss the potential European breakaway league. Can I ask which teams are at this moment considering breaking away? Also, do u expect it to ever happen, and what affects do u believe it would have on the remaining domestic leagues around the world.

I haven't put a lot of thought into it as I didn't believe it would ever happen, but I can't see it been good for the match day fans!

I understand your very busy this week, but would live to know your thoughts on this!

Regards

Believable5 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - There is a whole bunch of clubs that have been involved in the discussions over recent years. I have no doubts that it will one day happen. As for the impact, I wrote this a while back and it pretty much covers my views on the matter:

Putting aside the whole argument of what people can, can't, should, may be able to afford etc. (which does nothing but reinforce my point that we should avoid discussion of money), the game has changed significantly and will continue to do so. Football at the highest level is big business and attracts the sponsorship it does because the sponsors wish to tap in to the disposable income of the fans and ride the back of the advertising that flows naturally from the success some clubs achieve. Long gone are the days of the cloth-capped, hobnailed-booted, chimney sweep making his way, rattle in hand, to cheer on his team at Old Trafford on a Saturday afternoon. I have explained before that there will be changes, probably within the next 10 to 15 years, which will force the restructuring of all of the leagues in Europe and likely do away with the likes of UEFA. You will have the opportunity to see the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and the other major European sides play in week-on-week regular competition at The Emirates, Stamford Bridge etc.. You will have the opportunity to visit Milan, Barcelona, Monaco, etc. every couple of weeks to watch your team play - if they make the cut. If you want to don your cloth cap, have a pint of wallop with your chums before going off to the local match, perhaps one of the sides from the suburbs will have survived so you can go and watch them?}

Without going in to too much detail: (a) A number of clubs take the opportunity a once or twice a year to discuss various issues including changes in rules, television rights, the power of UEFA, exploitation issues for new technology streams, etc.. These discussions, the last of which were in late March in Monte Carlo the next take place this Wednesday in Monte Carlo, also always turn to the possibility and structure of a breakaway pan European league. Several are ex-G14 clubs, several are not, and some clubs decline involvement in such discussions. (b) The plan is that at some point a number of clubs would break away from their national leagues and UEFA. They accept that they would be banned from all existing club competition and the players would initially be banned from all FIFA competitions as well, but know that FIFA would be looking to negotiate in any case. It would be the end of UEFA in all probability and UEFA are very aware of this. It would also result in a restructuring of many of the national leagues. (c) The clubs would renegotiate their television rights, rights of distribution via other streams etc.. (d) It remains the greatest fear of UEFA and all major national authorities that one day this will happen.

There is every likelihood that the big money from television, sponsorship etc. would go with a breakaway league. It would completely rupture the operations of UEFA and I would expect it would require national associations like the FA to restructure their leagues. Nobody wants this but it is the eventual consequence I would expect. If I had to speculate, I would think (1) you might eventually see something like five or six EPL teams leave for two-tier pan European league - perhaps after a short period with three or four departing for a single division; (2) the Premier League would be disbanded as an organisation; (3) the FA would restructure in to two 20 team divisions with lower leagues regionalised as they were many years ago; (4) FIFA would ban all players from the breakaway teams from International football - perhaps rescinding that position to stop FIFA breaking up as well. I could also see many teams lose their professional status. I would think we are probably 10 years away from any significant move at this time.

I hold a reasonably strong view in terms of the need to restructure football in Europe in any case. For me an eventual a breakaway pan-European league would force the restructuring of many of the national leagues, possibly resulting in a British league with perhaps only a couple of professional tiers and then regionalised amateur leagues below that. Financially I do not see that so many pro sides can be sustained within the sport which, like it or not, will see more and more money going in to the highest levels of the game. Governments will ensure that grassroots sport get funding but everything in the middle (Southern, Northern, Conference, Division 2, Scottish Divisions 1-3, League of Wales will not get the funding needed to continue on any sort of professional basis.}

Thanks Ed! Nice change to read some none transfer or doom and gloom about current form stuff!

Agree0 Disagree0

Even though I think a lot of what is written on here from both sides is conjecture and guesswork, I have to say that your piece on the future of Football is IMO succinct, accurate and well written. I've been telling people for years that the lower leagues need to lose the professional status as 'financial football' at that level is unsustainable although I didn't put it quite as well as you've done.
