Guys my cousin is Celtic season ticket holder, never missed a game and he has told me that the majority of Celtic fans believe we will sign wanyama. Just passing on what I've herd guys.

Caolán.

As an actual Celtic fan i can confirm this is absolute nonsense,,,dopeydavey

Hi Man United fans merry crhistmas Celtic fan here, on wanyama the guys a powerhouse and a great player. All the talk up here is that he will either leave for mufc or arsenal I would rather him go to mufc as they are a greater club and a great chance for big vic to shine in the epl and win trophies , would hate to see him go but after his performance against Barcelona he bossed xavi and inniesta and believe me he's only going to get better.

having read all the reports from various countries, is that it's a Chinese Whispers situation. If Lewandowski is to stay with Borussia Dortmund then he understandably wants wage parity with the top earners. A few stories like this will help Cezary Kucharski get that for him.

The Bild story was nothing new and had already been carried both in Poland and by Goal. The credibility this has gained over the Christmas period owes a lot to the idea that Borussia Dortmund have accepted he's leaving and that dates back to Michael Zorc being misquoted, the club have said nothing of the sort unless you count unnamed sources.

His contract doesn't end until 2014 and if Manchester United were tapping him up then Borussia Dortmund would blow a gasket. It happens in football but the Premier League club certainly wouldn't want it happening so publicly if indeed they were engaged in clandestine tactics. The clubs worked long and relatively well in regards to Shinji Kagawa and it would be odd to throw that away.

If Manchester United want him (and you can all guess at that) then there would be little point dangling wage figures one and a half years before he'd be available for free, getting Borussia Dortmund onside would be a must for a transfer before that.

As usual, the claims of a 'done deal' fall apart at even the lightest scrutiny

Believable18 Unbelievable2

I wouldn't be surprised if Dortmund win the champions league and he signs a new contract!

Ed, if united do sign lewondowski , what do you think is behind this idea ? {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure there is anything noteworthy behind a move for a young, successful player available at the right price other than him being a worthy addition to the squad. An Arihant if you will.}

Believable9 Unbelievable0

Go easy ed002, it is Christmas but it did make me chuckle on my turkey sandwich.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like it ed 002. What an Arihant it would be if we had a front four of RVP, Lewy, Ronaldo and Rooney!

Either Rooney goes, or he takes up his rightful position - ATTACKING MIDFIELDER.
Can't see a move abroad, he can hardly speak English, So, Spanish, German & French would 'tax him'.

Ed do you know if we are still interested in Luke Shaw? Would love him here, will probably be better than Cashley but I hear Chelsea are very keen.

Dan {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any MU interest in Shaw.}

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Dan I posted on here last week about Luke Shaw. I'm not sure if we're interested and Ed002 obviously doesn't think we are, but I'm told Chelsea have offered £4 million for him which will supposedly be turned down.

Cheers for that ags. I really hope we get him, would rather have him than Baines tbh as I think he will be better than Baines in only a year or two. Already better than the Evra of late.

I am one of the people who is greatly in support of signing Lewandowski as his age, talent and value are sublime... I would sacrifice Hernandez or Welbeck for him but he will want a starting place pretty much all the time as he is a top player so where do we fit him in ?? The only way I can see it happening is Rooney being sold, RVP, Kagawa and maybe a Rodriguez?? playing behind Lewy and then Carrick and Cleverley in the middle unfortunately as I would like to see a signing in the centre mid position.

Believable7 Unbelievable25

27 Dec 2012 16:30:15
i wouldn't get rid of hernandez or welbeck both accept being squad players and know that they'll get plenty of games in rotation.

Front two of RVP and Lewandowski. Midfield of Kagawa, Rooney, Strootman and Rodrigues. Valencia to play at RB.
Paul.

Agree0 Disagree3

I have an amazing feeling that ronnie will grace our field in red again too! Let the rest look in awe.......we should never overlook good players

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people always say about getting rid of Hernandez...

He always conducts himself well both on and off the pitch and been our match winner so many times.. He's to much of a good asset to get rid of..

Anyway scoring goals is not a problem. It's the midfield and defence that need strengthening first....!

Agree6 Disagree0

If i were alex , i would be after some good defenders

Agree1 Disagree0

Hi Guys , first time poster so be gentle with me ;) I'm not sure of room in the squad and the worry of keeping all players happy with the squad rotation but we shouldn't forget this guy is very talented and young and Fergie always tries to buy that way when possible ecpecially when the cost is right , we also need to remember that RvP is injury prone and for many of his years with the gunners was missing for half the season .. touch wood he will stay fit for us but Lewy would be a good option to keep the strikeforce strong

Agree1 Disagree0

The only way i can see him playing in our team is in a 4-3-2-1

De Gea
Rafael Vida Evans Evra

Celeverly Carrick Kagawa

Rooney
RVP Lewandowski

Agree2 Disagree0

Id flog danny tbh....i think fergie has plans for a defender or 5 but i think the problems r in the center....a good solid cdm will stop the leaky goals and give the young lads som confidence...hummells in the summer doh wts

Hi Guys
Eds can you confirm or deny the rumours I'm hearing regarding Bruno Gomes,the Brazilian wonderkid joining next season also his team mate Welder maybe coming as well.I don't know anything about Welder but Gomes apparently is very highly thought of.

Bazza The Red {Ed002's Note - These are just kiddies so I am a little limited in what I know about them. However, I think it most unlikely that you will see Gomes before the season after next. Welder is a player I know a tiny bit more about and there was talk that agreement has been reached of him being moved on part ownership agreement to another side - in perhaps a year's time.}

Believable11 Unbelievable2

I dont know anything about welder but from what i can gather gomes is taking lessons in english and has already been over here to train twice and will sign when he's 18

DONE DEAL:its on tribalfootball

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is set to sign with Manchester United.

BILD says Lewandowski is set to accept an offer of £20.5million in wages from Manchester United to join the club in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly agreed an £18million bid for the Polish striker, who has long been pursued by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 24-year-old will sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford worth around £4.1m annually.

The striker's contract with the club expires at the end of next season, and it is believed he will double his wages with a move to the Premier League.

If this is true then i think we will have the best attacking line up (we have it even now).

REDCORE!!

Believable22 Unbelievable18

Cheerio Rooney if this is true

Agree0 Disagree0

Done deal cause its on tribal football. Does that mean if they reported were doing a straight swop with Madrid for ronny with them getting welbeck that's a done deal also ? Randy !

i'll believe it when i see it somewhere more reliable than tribalfootball. At the moment i'll go on the word of rafael honingstein who doesn't think its likely and thinks its largely down to the agent.

Agree0 Disagree1

Won't believe it's definite until it is confirmed by either club
sparky

Agree0 Disagree0

Raphael Honigstein simply doesn't know if it's the truth or not. He isn't convinced United need him so by that opinion he thinks it might be agent spin. But the BILD are the very same people who gave us accurate information regarding Kagawa well before it was confirmed.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree0

It would be a great but strange signing, we have no trouble scoring goals - our attack is lethal at the minute, so why but another one? is rooney going? will they let Chico or welbeck leave?

I had a chat with my brother during the game yesterday having thought rooney was dropped (later discovered he was injured) but would utd be tempted to sell him? 30m plus rooney for ronaldo? i know this is more football manager stuff but don't understand why seem to be going for another striker.

Giants14

Agree1 Disagree0

Giants, so you don't think Rooney's 'injury' is a cover story then?

Agree0 Disagree5

Sydney

No not at all, i thought he was dropped or rested yesterday when the team sheet was announced although i hear after fergie said he was injured.

Although it is strange if the paper talk is correct, someone will have to be sold can't imagine us having 5 strikers unless he is planning on a front three of rooney,lewan,RVP.

Giants14

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez will go Rooney will stay and drop deeper into midfield.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree3

Giants, I don't believe Rooney is injured at all. Perhaps unfit and out of shape due to drinking, smoking and eating numerous mince pies, but not injured.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree1

Dan, certainly possible. That is the thoughts of a friend of mine who said as much months ago.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

Isn't it Rooney the one who said he will drop into a midfielder role later in his career? Maybe this might happen sooner than people think? I know Rooney isn't leaving and IF we do sign Lewandowski then surely that means Scholes is retiring and Rooney will take his place. After all Paul has never been great at tackling likewise with Rooney but both fantastic passers, let's not forget Scholes didn't play the role he does now, 10 years ago. Is it not the most logical explanation?

Ozwald

Ozwald {Ed004's Note - But Rooney isn't in as good a physical state as Scholes was. Hasn't Rooney already started to say football has already started to affect his fitness and you are suggesting playing him in the middle of the field where this is bound to happen}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004, you're not trying to tell me that there's no way one can improve one's fitness are you? I've just noticed how as he's got older, he's not as explosive and single handedly dangerous as he used to be in a forward position. But he can pick out a good pass and has the passion to get back behind the ball and defend.

Ozwald {Ed004's Note - Yes I know it is possible for him to work on his fitness but he doesn't seem to have the desire and commitment to do this. A perfect example of this is at preseason. I can never remember a top player/athlete returning that much out of shape. Has Scholes or Giggs ever done that. He also hasn't looked in very good shape as of late. In fact top players such as Ronaldo seem to come back better after preseasons but Rooney seems to be losing his fitness and I just can't see him working hard enough to keep fit and that is shocking for someone over 200k a week}

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd I said this last season as well. Like Oswald said Scholes was a number 10 in the same way Rooney is and then moved deeper into midfield at the sort of age that Rooney is now. Rooney has all the skills Scholes has and might turn out even better than Scholes in that position in 2 or 3 years. Remember Scholes had a bad patch for 05 and 06 along with Giggs. That was the period when Giggs went from being a traditional pacey winger to wide off the striker and Scholes dropped back deeper. It took them a while to hit good form but they came back well. Expect the same from Rooney, no doubt everyone will start slating him for a season but he will become great in that position. If Lewy comes then that is pretty much guaranteed to happen next season unless Rooney does move but I dont think he will. The only thing is Rooney has a personal desire to remain a number 10 for longer though has admitted he will drop deeper into midfield in the future. I think it is because of his desire to remain a number 10 that has seen him move back to that position from starting the season in the heart of midfield.
Ed I see what you're saying but Rooney said the reason he struggles with fitness is because he gets kicked a lot as a striker, causing him paines that means he finds it hard to even move the next day. Being in the middle would test his stamina but he shouldn't be kicked as much which should negate that issue. Rooney played 2 matches a week regularly for the last couple of seasons, personally, I don't see fitness being an issue for him as a midfielder. In fact, from what he said about being kicked and feeling the knocks, I think it will benefit him.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree1

Edd004 is rooney really on 200 k a week
jred {Ed004's Note - I think it is a bit less but close enough to it. Yes}

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney will play for united for at least another five years after this one he is a man with great hunger and desire its there for the whole world to see he may be a little foolish with some of his off the field antics but how many of us are angels and on top if you do your history on what he is and who he is you will find he is of irish bareknuckle lenage and they dont come any tougher or deurable with longevity as these guys fight into the sixtys the mans a beast of granit not a piece of sandstone so i can see him doing what scholes has done and doing it well for us for a long long time. Katef

Agree1 Disagree0

Cheers edd 004 its just ive read a few reports and andy green blogged it was more like 140 k
jre {Ed004's Note - That might be after tax, but it is irrelevant what amount it is. It is still a huge amount of money for someone who can not stay in shape and let's off the field issues affect his performance}

Agree0 Disagree0

He is on a basic salary of £160k a week with big bonuses apparently. I do not believe it's anywhere close to the £250k a week that some newspapers were reporting. I guess we will never know for sure.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Edd004
if you look at rooneys imput over the last 3 years is that not a bit of a harsh statement

how do you think he done last year
jred {Ed004's Note - He played well last year but he isn't a very consistent player and has spells were he is awful for the team}

Hi Ed, haven't posted for a while, but Merry Christmas.

The German newspaper Bild are running with a story that Lewandowski is close to accepting a 5 year contract worth €5 million per year starting in summer 2013. Just wondering if you have heard anything on this?

Cheers,

Rudderpost {Ed002's Note - Such a deal can be agreed in January. There is every chance that a deal will be agreed but I would put aside any thoughts about the money.}

Believable11 Unbelievable1

26 Dec 2012 22:30:41
ED002 regarding Rooney have you heard if the club may be willing to sell him BILD are today reporting we will make a summer move for Lewondowski will this pave the way for Rooney's exit? {Ed002's Note - I would not associate the two at all. I do not know of any intention to make Rooney available at this time.}

Believable1 Unbelievable10

I see the club have given Rooney a Christmas break. Injury my arse. I did think he would be dropped for the Newcastle game.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

People who think Rooney will make a transfer away from the club are delusional, he can barely speak English can you imagine him learning Spanish? German? Italian? No. I would bet he'll be at United all the while Fergie is and maybe longer after depending on how things go.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Oz, it's delusional to think there is not a possibility that he could be sold. The club wouldn't give a monkey's whether he could speak a different language or not. Not that he would need to learn a different language.

Too many people think it won't happen because they do not want it to happen. I think there is more chance of him staying than leaving, but I do think there is a chance he could be sold this summer.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

The last time we sold our best player it was because that player wanted to leave to go to his childhood dream club. What reason would we have to sell Rooney there is no denying he's one of the best in the world at what he does. Then you have to think would he want to leave? Where to if so? I guess it would be stupid of me to say there isn't a chance he could leave. But it just seems so highly unlikely unless something drastically changes at the club. For example a new manager that he doesn't see eye to eye with.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

He said he wanted to leave not too long ago didnt he,?

Parks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oz, he doesn't see eye to eye with our manager and they have barely spoke since his outburst in 2010. I heard Phelan has been the go between him and the manager for a long time. Don't know how true that is, but he definitely doesn't have a close relationship with SAF anymore.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not so sure about that Syd, every time i see Fergie down in the technical box trying to give out some orders it's always Rooney he calls over to delay the message to. I also don't think he would have ever given him the captains armband the few times he did last season if he did not think he was worthy of it. One last thing hasn't Fergie said that Since Rooney's little situation he had a few years back he's been a much more mature player getting hardly any bookings and being more of a role model to the younger players like Cantona was?
