Reports saying that Zaha might sign for CP on permanent deal for £3m. If true, then the club are making big mistake. He needs time and maturity and he will be a top player.

It was a mistake to buy him for such a high price in the first place. He has potential but I don't think he will turn out to be a top player.

Whenever I have watched him he looks a bit out of balance and himself doesn't know what trick he is doing sometimes.

Rising to a possible £6m. Plus the loan fee received, it wouldn't be a major loss considering he cost £10.3m. For me he lacks the discipline which is needed to succeed at the highest level.

Agree1 Disagree0

Wasn't favoured by Moyes, couldn't cut it under Van Gaal which suggests he will be one of these good mid table PL players. Makes you wonder if Zaha was a mere last ditch attempt by Fergie to leave behind a 'potential star' after he called it a day.

We need proven quality. We have too many players that are supposedly ready to "come good". Our entire defense for example. Lots of spending needed to challenge for the title again.

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't get why this lad was never allowed to start at least a few games before moving him on especially with some of the players performances last year. What a waste :(

Quite simply, Zaha has physical attributes without the intelligence or composure to back it up. Fergie should never have bought him, he was just a cheap alternative to the likes of Hazard and Lucas. But ultimately cheap alternatives end up being more costly.

If anyone thinks he can become a top class player, i'd advise you to watch him for a full 90 min. Lots of pace, powerful and has some skill. But his positional sense is awful, his work rate is poor and, most importantly, he is severely lacking in end product. The lad could have improved at United but everything points to him having a poor attitude. Some young players think that being top dog at a Championship club and getting a big move means they've made it, and they don't need to work hard any more. They do, and they'll soon find themselves crashing back to earth. He's hardly set the world alight at Palace either.

It's a shame really, i've always liked him and he's got lots of skill and potential to be great with his pace, power and skill but like Danny said he's only got himself to blame never really knuckled down to improve himself. Sad really but you see it happen quite a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

What annoys me so much is that we seem to buy players for a fortune and sell them for peanuts. Not talking about this case, but in general, it seems because the club is so profitable that selling clubs rip us off simply because we can afford high prices.

Agree0 Disagree0

He can't defend, his passing is poor and in todays game unless you are CR07 or Messi, you are expected to contribute at the defensive end. Just because he has a few tricks that does not make him a top player and you need a lot more than that over 90 minutes. Hazzard and Pogba are probably fergies biggest screw ups. We went for kagawa instead LOL.

I remember having a large debate with certain posers 2 years ago that he was overrated and not going to make it, some actually were preaching we had the next Ronaldo lol

And people thought paying £6m to loan Falcao from Monaco for the season was bad. By the looks of things we will have spent £12m to loan Zaha from Palace for a season.

Evening Ed, do you have any latest updates on Reus? Has anything changed from your last comments about him a few weeks ago?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Obviously Manchester United is not an option. It would be reasonable to assume Chelsea have moved on and he will go to Real Madrid.}

27 Jan 2015 23:02:42
Why do you believe MUFC to not be an option? Bale will be staying there next summer now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest in him.}

28 Jan 2015 09:11:28
Ed002, is Manchester United not an option because he rejected the club, in favor of Barcelona last summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to just move on.}

28 Jan 2015 11:31:25
Thanks Ed, bizarre how there is no interest IMO.

Hi ed, rumours suggesting laporte could happen soon if we stump up the 31million euro. Do you see it happening this week as we are in a precarious position for top 4 with our defenders?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly comment on the timing of transfers, but it smacks of desperation to be overspending on fourth or fifth choice players.}

27 Jan 2015 09:46:31
Interesting if he is 4th or 5th choice. He would be my 2nd after Hummels. i'd like to know who No.2 and 4 are though. Is Schar on that list?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This has been done to death and I have no intention of keep on repeating myself.}

You say with "our" defenders, we've let in 2 more than Chelsea and 1 less than city. not too bad for saying that's our weakest area added the fact LVG hasn't been able to string two matches together with the same line up. just saying

If we are willing to spend 30mill on a CB like Laporte then we should atleast look to tempt madrid with a 30mill bid for Varane or put in a sizeable offer for Coleman as a new RB.

27 Jan 2015 11:23:00
I agree with ish1982. The defence is not as bad as everyone makes it look out to be. We wouldn't be talking about a CB signing now if we created and scored more like we should. The top end of the pitch is not scoring enough. rvp, falcao, rooney, di maria and mata. A united team with that talent should be averaging 2 goals a game in the league not 36goals in 22games.

The amount of goals we have conceded compared to Chelsea is now being touted around as a positive but we need to remember we have done this playing with 3 centre halves which imo has definitely had an impact on our attacking play due to the fact that the available pass is always back to a centre half. So strengthening at centre half would surely allow us to play with a flat back 4 thus giving us another attacking player??

I would rather LVG concentrated on getting the current squad to play as a team rather than look to transfers.
As Southampton have proved, you don't need big names to build a team, just an organised defence, a midfield that can create chances and pace in attack, damn it I think I could do this job.

redsand. Totally agree! Even with 3 centre backs we concede more goals than our rivals. Our defense is the worst part of our team, despite the big name attackers not pulling their weight either. The squad needs a major overhaul. Southampton can more than match our squad in defense and midfield.

Agree0 Disagree1

De Gea has been a big part of why we haven't conceded as many as we probably should have too lads!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with MS too. 3 centre backs and a goalkeeper in the form of his life, yet we've still conceded a ton of goals. We need at least 1 new cb and a new rb.

If you united are going to spend 30 million on a centre half, we should buy varane from real Madrid.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jan 2015 20:19:28
De gea has certainly been a big factor in our defence! All our centre backs are not playing well and new defenders are definitely needed! But I also agree a back 4 is a must with more faith put in Rafael at right back and shaw staying fit at left back. Rojo and a toss between smalling or jones at the minute of all fit. Van gaal needs to decide how midfield can start feeding up top because strikers aren't getting a sniff. They are having to drop into midfield to get on the ball most of the time.

I think its Guillem Ballague jumping the gun like he usually does. I highly doubt that United will spend that much on him when he is clearly not first choice.

Hummels and Garay would be gettable in the summer and we should wait until then. Laporte or Marquinhos would represent inexperienced options at ridiculous prices.

If there is one young defender worth spending big on, its Varane.

According to Rodney Marsh United have had a "quiet word" with Guardiola. I know probably a load of rubbish but thought I would share.

You could have bet your mortgage that as soon as Guardiola raises any doubt that he will sign a contract extension then the Man Utd rumours would surface, personally I can see him going back the Barcelona when his contract finishes with Bayern.
