Expect lee grant to sign in the next few days as 3rd choice keeper, you heard it here first.

Not a bad addition. Will probably never get a game but decent cover non the less. This will help pave a way for Joel Perrera to go on loan where he’ll gain vital experience. A good move in my opinion.

Surely it must mean at least one of Joel Pereira or Romero leaves? Any interest Eds?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Real Betis would like JP on loan to replace Dani Gimenez.}

28 Jun 2018 10:32:57
Seems a bit pointless.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It would be a loan or JP will have to be sold.}

28 Jun 2018 10:49:17
Mort why does it seem pointless? JP needs game time and experience. Something we can't offer at this stage so surely a loan is sensible.

This is a strange transfer if it happens. Although 35 years old was surely going to get Mourinho excited. Lol.

On a serious note we have BOTH Joel Pereira and Dean Henderson who are highly rated. Obviously Henderson has joined Sheffield United on loan, but Pereira is still at the club.

I suppose maybe the idea is to loan out Pereira for him to gain top level experience while Grant covers the seldom needed third goalkeeper place. I wonder if there could be a view to Grant becoming a coach in a couple of years?

Typical Jose move though, older experienced player who will only make one of two appearances at most signed on a free.

28 Jun 2018 12:08:18
Joel P needs games. It’s an obvious move and sensible transfer to loan him out and get some experienced cover.

28 Jun 2018 12:23:01
I think its normal to have an old and experienced third choice goalkeeper. Obviously he won't play any game.

No point of keeping young keeper like Joel on the bench, he needs game time to develop.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jun 2018 15:30:05
I mean its pointless signing Grant. Odds are he won't make a single appearance. Its not like either keeper has injuries. Loan JP and put in a recall option in case of emergencies.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is not possible.}

28 Jun 2018 16:39:54
Don't see JP long term future here. Unfortunately we have the best goalkeeper in the world called De Gea. We probably going to end up selling JP. As long De Gea is committed to us though.

Is DDG the best in the world?

So even allowing for Henderson going on loan and maybe JP heading to Spain. I hat does it say for our upcoming keepers, o’hara was great last season what about the younger Henderson brother and Johnstone who kept 20 clean sheets in the championship last season. What don’t they fill the third choice position and play regularly for the reserves. We’ve two vastly experienced keepers o don’t aee why we need a third one. Let a youngster fill the gap.

Agree5 Disagree3

29 Jun 2018 14:05:31
Airforce,

Is it sensible for a youngster to play zero games and be a 3rd choice keeper or should he be learning his craft playing regular games? As people above say this keeper is never going to get a game so what is the point in it being someone who is having their career stalled?

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Jun 2018 15:34:41
Personally I would prefer our 3rd choice keeper to be a youngster.

Third choice keepers only ever get on the bench if there is an injury to one of the other two keepers. This rarely happens.

In fact it happens so rarely that the third choice keeper often has to play games for the now under 23's to remain match sharp.

I would rather that be a youngster who should be playing that level than a 35 year old journey man.

I appreciate that players like Joel Pereira and Dean Henderson need regular minutes to continue to progress, so loans make sense. That should open up a space for the younger lad next in line. They should step up, train with the first team, learn off of keepers like De Gea and Romero, while stepping up to the under 23's on a regular basis.

I see nothing to be gained from signing a 35 year old keeper who is not good enough on higher wages to never play a game and take minutes away from our youngster in the under 23 set up.

Goalkeeper is a position that sees little to no rotation, we currently have two world class keepers and a group of very talented young goalkeepers in Johnstone, J. Pereira and Henderson. In fact we probably have the strongest goalkeeper line up I can ever remember us having. Adding Stokes 35 year old back up keeper just seems like a poor and pointless decision if you ask me.

Shappy,

How do you know his salary?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jul 2018 12:21:02
Shappy, I appreciate the point you are trying to make, however; what if Romero's recovery hits a snag or after his recovery he decides he wants regular football? Would you rather have the youngster be our number 2 or Grant? (at least until a replacement is made)

As per usual our fans are moaning about something.

Fellaini is a top fella and I'm glad he's staying.

You may not like his style of football but he's contributed towards this side more than half the squad has.

I hope he goes on to put his all in as he always does and proves to be the valuable asset he's been for both us and Everton.

Top job Mou and Woodward.

Fellaini staying after he taunted himself around Europe and didn’t find any club mug enough to want him. Keeping him indicates that’s it for the midfield only Fred coming in. Fully expect Valencia and young to be starting g first game next season too. Catch city we will be lucky to finish top 4 as it stands, I wouldn’t be surprised if we use all our funds to buy Ronaldo or Bale as the club thinks that means we are still a big club they seem to have forgot winning titles is what put us up on that pedestal in the first place. The keeping of Fellaini also smacks of Jose having no intention of changing our style resigning the big fella so we can launch hoofs up the pitch with15 minutes to go.

Agree6 Disagree8

{Ed002's Note - Do you have any photographs of Fellaini being "taunted" around Europe.}

27 Jun 2018 14:57:26
He'll be getting taunted at games.

Valuable asset? Ok he gives his all. So would anyone on this site. Doesn't mean we're good enough. And nor is Fellaini.

Agree13 Disagree2

27 Jun 2018 16:29:56
If he's signed it must mean he's been guaranteed a starting position or a certain amounts of starts. He's not going to sign on just to sit on the bench instead of signing elsewhere and being a regular starter. As far as I'm concerned he's held the club to ransom and dragged our name in the gutter going around Europe and China trying to find a better deal. Mourinho has signalled he wants to play boring football again next year, Fellani can't sprint, pass or play quick balls, all he's good at is chesting the ball. Needs to go for his own sake as I'm guessing there's going to be a fans backlash against him. He's the last bad taste of moyes around old trafford.

Agree6 Disagree1

27 Jun 2018 17:09:03
Spot on kidder. No way he signs if he isn’t guaranteed first team football. I am pretty gutted tbh and I am one of those that believes Jose deserves another year. However, signing on fellaini has wavered my confidence. If no left back is signed and young is still playing as first choice, then I will find myself firmly in the out camp unfortunately. It’s blatantly obvious where the weaknesses are and Jose will have had plenty of windows and opportunities to address those areas.

27 Jun 2018 18:21:48
Next season is going to be so great as we retain fellaini, sell martial and young and Valencia play 30-40 games each while OP and other mourinho Fanboys blame the above players for mourinho's failures and rubbish football.

Martial doesn’t give his all and he is coveted on this site. I for one am glad he’s staying. Very useful squad player. Add TFM or Perreira and the mids are now well stocked. Now for some full backs and a right forward.

Agree5 Disagree2

28 Jun 2018 07:35:19
A good squad player IMO but we can always let him go and spend anything up to £30 million on another squad player. No? Yes? Maybe TFM will be ready to take over Wigs spot in a years time, maybe if we got rid of the wig the new MID squad player might stunt TFM's progress.
Just a thought.

I can't believe that he was offered a contract extension in the first place. I have nothing against the guy as a person because he always gives 100% but he just isn't good enough for where we want to get to. He's an impact player at best, throw him on for the last 15 minutes if you need a goal. I just hope and pray that this isn't going to affect us buying another central midfielder in the transfer market. How much bloody money is he getting a week. the mind boggles. He should of been shipped out simple as that along with the other dead wood, Blind, Darmian etc.

Agree1 Disagree5

29 Jun 2018 08:16:52
Fellaini is crap and we're going nowhere with him in the squad.
Jose will be sacked by this time next year as he's keeping slow trees like Fellaini : (

poor show United.

Agree0 Disagree2

30 Jun 2018 12:08:21
Fellaini knows he's only going to be squad player, and, given the transfer costs United seem to need to pay in order to get anyone half way decent as an alternative, having him around for his wage cost only seems to me a very decent bit of business by United. With Fellaini you know what you're getting: it's someone who may not be top drawer but is at last as good as some of the overrated players who have been linked with us, like Dier, who would cost us a lot more. He's not my favorite player but he does offer a viable alternative in style when it's needed.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jun 2018 12:15:59
Ed02, will Fellaini signing a new contract all but end any chance of a second midfielder (e. g. Pellegrini) being signed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - As I had explained, Pellegrini was about 6th or 7th on the list the club had for midfield players so they would have been scraping the bottom of the barrel going back to think again about him, but they might. I would certainly not rule out someone leaving from midfield and a replacement arriving.}

27 Jun 2018 12:55:20
Ok thanks Ed - able to expand on who could potentially leave? Pogba or Herrera I'm guessing?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

27 Jun 2018 12:58:47
Forget the last question actually Ed, can chance of one or two names from the list who come before Pellegrini?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why do I need to keep repeating myself?}

27 Jun 2018 13:25:33
Sergej M. Savic, Tony Kroos and Casimiro are among the names Ed002 mentioned.

Other options joined or likely to join other clubs like Fabinho and Seri.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You can strike off Fabian Ruiz as he is going elsewhere as well.}

27 Jun 2018 16:32:03

Any truth in these rumours about Fellaini agreeing a new deal with Utd Ed002? Dreadful if true.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any contracts being signed but he was always going to look to what offers he had and any offer from MU would likely be better than anything else.}

27 Jun 2018 13:03:30
Hardly a Fellaini fan but it is possible that the club see it as a more viable option to sell a more valuable player (Perhaps Herrera) and keep Fellaini on reduced wages to facilitate buying a young dynamic midfielder to be 4th in line in the midfield pecking order. Hopefully an attacking minded midfielder who we can play against lesser opposition and rest Matic.

Only caveat to this idea is why not just let Fellaini go as well and promote Andreas or McTom further up the pecking order.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Jun 2018 13:45:34
Dreadful? Some of our fans need to take a look at themselves at times.

Maybe the manager like Fellaini and thinks he has a role to play, like the Belgium manager does as well.

I think this will go down well on the site lol.

27 Jun 2018 11:30:05
Absolutely devastated. Total shambles from the club. He's hawked himself around Europe got no good offers and we're going to get stuck with him. An injury prone squad player on far too much money that's going to affect other signings.

27 Jun 2018 12:15:28
Here's to another shambolic season. Thought we were moving forward signing Fred and Dalot. Then the news The useless plank Fellani is staying. Joke utter Joke. Well Jose won't have a leg to stand on when he gets sacked and it won't be long before he does . Keeping Fellani.

27 Jun 2018 13:07:14
Fellaini will not start a lot of games but Jose has shown he is happy to use him when needed. Useful sub.
I think already the signing of Fred will improve the style of play as I think he will fit next to Matic with Pogba further forward.
We have glaring issues at fullback and right wing, if this ensures the money is available to address those positions with top quality I'm in favour.

There is no way he is first choice, he is a good option off the bench and has proven that since Jose came into the side.

One more season of balls. looking for wig in when defence is tight to open. So Jose decided to open them with head ball rather beautiful football.
I'm personally wanted him to leave for good of our football style.

This also ends our need to bring another CM.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Jun 2018 23:29:16
Why does he have to be the option off the bench? Why does plan b have to be launch it?
Ole, teddy, Hernandez and the like were all options from the bench at times and they could all play. Last season Fellaini scored one winner against a very depleted arsenal side. It’s an awful decision to extend or actually worse still offer him a new deal. No one wanted him badly enough in. Free and that should say it all.

Another season of jose’s poor excuse for football coming up. What direction is this club going?
