PSG are getting more interested in Modric. They are becoming very likely to be pushing for him this summer as I've posted previously. What happens to Redknapp will have an influence on what happens with a few tottenham players and not just Modric as reported in the press.

Just made me think how immense it would be to have Bale and Valencia on each wing? Two men who love to run towards that touchline and whip balls in.. With great worth ethic and strength. After Giggys goes we have no left footed players that can run with the ball. No one dare say Anderson!

Would be unlikely though considering the amount of wingers we currently have under contract. Which reminds me, eds any updates on Nani's contract situation or will it wait til the end of the season?

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally, I'd like a tricky winger to compliment Valencia.

Don't get me wrong, Bale is a danger but it would be nice to have someone to pose another problem for the full backs if there was some rotation from the two wingers.

However, if we did get Bale then I think we'd have to get a ''heading machine'' up top like a Llorente get on their crosses.

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

A heading machine? ..Chicharito? If the cross is good and he's on the end of it, he rarely misses! Welbeck has a great physique for it, just need consistent crossers from each flank for him to practise. Nani and Young's crossing from the left side is poor, while Antonio puts the best ball in from the right.. Hence why someone like Bale could work wonders for us. Both Bale and Valencia are relatively good defensively, are Nani or Young?

Dunno why i keep going on its super unlikely to happen :(

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Ozwald, What I meant was Llorente, Damiao are big guys with a presence.

Welbeck has the physique but does he use it and is he an arial threat?

I know what you mean though, we have very good strikers and it wouldn't be essential but if we have two wingers getting to the byline and standing it up, someone who can win it for attempts on goal or knock downs I think we would get more success.

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if I'd like to sit and watch the match as a United fan, just seeing two wingers whip balls into the box.. Even if we got goals, I think the wingers like Nani add abit of excitement into the match, when he is finally on form that is.

Cooper

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald, good point but Nani's crossing is terrible from both the left and the right, consistently failing to beat the 1st man (it still amazes me how professional footballers do that, pretty much the 1st thing i learnt when i played on the wing as a 10 yr old)

The reserves won 4-1 at everton and we only had a squad of 15 so I guess that explains why Pogba didn't play last night as he was needed for the reserve game. Hopefully that will put some minds at rest.....at least until he either signs for us or someone else.

Shappy

Believable15 Unbelievable0

A powerful line up too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Needed for the reserves!!! I think the 1st team takes priority.

Agree0 Disagree0

You still need a minimum number of players and i expect 90 mins of reserve football is better for his devolpment than 90mins of bench warming against fulham as he wouldn't have got on with how we were playing last night as it would have been too risky. Remember Sir Alex is the manager of Manchester United football club not just the first team and he makes his decisions based on whats best for the club and he decided that it was best for the club and the player for Pogba to play in the reserves today rather than Fulham last night. We might not agree with it but he hasn't got much wrong in the last 25 years and there is cerntainly no one who could have done better.

Gotze signs new 4 year deal at Dortmund

Hobbes

Believable18 Unbelievable0

Good way to get more money for him, doubt he'll leave this summer but next summer! I would put money on it.. (providing he keeps up his good performances)

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

That doesn't mean he'll stay. Contracts are ways of clubs getting more money for their players if they wish to sell

I wanna talk about what every sees as a marquee signing as there seems to be an obsession with sign at least one this year so what is a marquee signing? Is it just a big name player for a big fee? Cus thats kinda the feeling I get when people mention them on here. People like Martinez or RVP but are these type of signings always the best Rio was a marquee signing as was Berbatov now both have been good players but if you had to choose would you have Rio and Berba or Vidic and Hernandez? There are other examples that money doesn't always buy you quality just look at some of liverpools signings, Ozil cost less than Adam, Sahin cost less than Henderson, Hernandez cost less than Carroll. So I don't mind how much we spend in the summer as long as we bring in quality.

Shappy

Believable23 Unbelievable2

I think it works that people are never happy
say ozil if we sign him for 10 mil (just an example ) people would moan were not spending enough
say we sign him for 40mil people would complain thats hes overpriced etc or would expect him to get a hattrick each game or something

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres a marquee company near me. rich people get them for big partys in their big gardens....

maybe fergie is throwing a party and needs a marquee....

oxred

I think when people talk of a Marquee signing they generally just saying they want someone who is already established as a top player! I personally Agree With the op!

Agree0 Disagree0

When I post about Marquee I (probably wrongly) mean someone who can slot straight into the first team and instantly lift the quality of the first team. Not a raw talent like Ronaldo was for us, who took a few years of nurture.

With the decline of the golden oldies we need to put a fully developed class player into our midfield IMO, and possibly a quality striker. The LB signing could be more of a slow burner for me.

DodgyBanter

Agree0 Disagree0

But thats just the thing though what is our first team? I think we don't have a first 11 as such but more a match day squad of which the first 11 could be any of the 18 in one of several formations. It depends on the opponants and the tactics. So anyone who can add something to the squad that we don't currently have would be of importance.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

A marquee signing is someone who makes you think 'that team is going to be even better this year'. Barca do it every season, Villa, Sanchez now Neymar.
Dingle {Ed002's Note - Neymar has not signed for Barcelona.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He hasn't yet but they're his most likely destination. And if they don't get him they won't worry about going for the second option.
Dingle

Agree0 Disagree0

Some fair points. Not sure on Rio point as he has been absolute class for many years so you cant sompare him now he is starting to decline with Vidic!
The concept of a marquee player does one thing other than potentially bring in a good player. It shows other potential signings, other clubs and our players that we are still a club to be reckoned with. We are still attracting top talent and can pay for it if neccessary. This can encourage other players to sign and encourage our top players not to leave (if we dont want them too). That is why I believe spending some cash on a top player once in a while does the team good.
Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rio has been a class player for us, what i'm saying is if you could have only signed one of them would you have chosen Rio for 30m or Vidic for 7m? What i'm getting at is you don't have to spend huge amounts to sign quality.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree with Woffsta, Rio has been solid for donkeys yonks, easily repaying the money we spent on him. i get Shappy's point but it would have been better to use more of a flop marquee signing eg veron

Regarding Kovacic, we were definately one club with a serious interest in him around last summer (quote from someone close to player). He has been quoted as favouring a move to us more recently ( sometime before christmas in some article). I don't know if we still have a solid interest in him now. Last summer I was told that at that point Tottenham were his most likely destination, don't know why but that's what I was told by someone who was close to the situation. I don't know if that has changed since then. Tottenham could be one of the club's ED002 is on about but I'm not certain. I'd be surprised if they are not and I'd be surprised if we are not still interested in him. But he will not be free, there could be a "training fee", he could even have to sign a new contract in order to move as sometimes happen's. The people from his club who pretty much own him are (how shall I put it) Erm.....difficult to deal with, which makes any deal for him not entirely straight forward, also because he is well under the age of 24 I think even if he's out of contract his current club or owners still have some clout.

With Sochaux bordering on relegation, I would like to see a move for Marvin Martin. Very creative, good set piece taker, on the fringes of the national squad first team. I believe he would be more likely to be cheaper and better than a lot of the options that get banded about.

Sanshine {Ed002's Note - Dortmund, Lille, Lorient and Anderlecht have enquired after Marvin Martin, but Valencia and Arsenal have been most serious in the pursuit of the Socheaux player. I suspect a move in the summer is possible.}

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Ah that's a shame we're not interested. I think there will be a bit of an exodus from Auxerre and Sochaux if the league positions stay the same!

Sanshine

What do you make of Corchia of Sochaux? Looks decent and a good age.

Stuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I have my doubts about his defending in the prem, but he's a very good attacking full back. From what I've seen he's not an amazing header of the ball and you'd be worried that we'd have an Evra situation if he came to england, being exploited by sticking someone out on him and lobbing balls to the back post.

He'd be a success in the Spanish league I think.

Guys Pobga is staying put at United, his agent is willing to talk and is now in advanced talks with the officials to keep the maestro at OT,so dream on scousers, and in summer only berba is leaving in the strikeforce as Fergie still has an eye for Owen and so might offer him another year meanwhile Huntelaar is the likely replacement for Berba.....Ferdinand though not sure yet may decide to go for the 250k/wk at the Chinese club than take a 50k paycut at OT,so Saf will have to replace him and with Martin Jol eyeing Carrick,SAF may decide to let him go and go for a younger DM like Martinez who isnt relishing to play for City despite the cash due to game time or Witsel who is eyed by Mourinho and then 1 attacking midfielder who i believe could be between Kagawa,Michu,Gaitan and Hazard.......my belief and news Ed

Believable13 Unbelievable15

Yeh, he still has an eye for owen, hence why he has started every match so far this season. i pray to christ that you are wrong, both berba and owen need to leave

Jaxer

Agree0 Disagree0

Owen WAS a good player but is just not capable of playing at the top of English football any more he will always be in the utd history books for the goal against the scum but its time to say no to him i think he would do well dropping down a league or going to australia like what was previously chucked about that he would
