Ed002 - I have noticed you have gathered some new intelligence regarding Mario Goetze. So did we 100% try to sign him in the summer?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Borussia Dortmund received an enquiry about the player in the summer from Manchester United. And like Arsenal and Barcelona, Manchester United were told he was not available and the player himself has made it abundantly clear that he wants to stay at Dortmund. Real Madrid may be able to persuade him to move next summer. He has identified his favourite teams as Barcelona and Arsenal. There is also interest also from AC Milan - and I suspect that they are shifting their interest in Ganso to Goetze due to persisting non-EU quota issues.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Ed002 - According to his agent, Goetze wants two more years at Dortmund before he moves (This season & next). But I have heard that Goetze wasn't for sale this summer, but Dortmund are open to offers next summer. So I guess it's safe to say that the earliest he will be leaving Dortmund is in the summer, but could even be the year after that.

You say Real Madrid may be able to tempt him, are Real Madrid now interested in him as they were not a team you mentioned a fortnight ago when I asked? If so do you think Ozil could be made available?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - He may be available in the summer, and he may be tempted by an offer from Real Madrid who are certainly now showing an interest. It does not mean that Oezil will be available (although Inter Milan are interested in him) but Kaka will be available.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 - United are also interested in Oezil according to his agent. I cannot see why they would want to get rid of Oezil, but all the same I cannot see how you can fit Oezil & Goetze in the same line-up?

Not sure why I spell Goetze with the 'E' and Ozil without, bit silly of me really.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It is more than silly Syd. You need to remember that thinking in terms of line-ups is completely meaningless. Clubs today have a squad of players to pick from (I appreciate it wasn't like that back in the 1950s).}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002- I notice you mentioned that AC Milan were losing interest in Ganso. What's the situation with him at the minute? Where is he most likely to end up?

G.A.G.U.S {Ed002's Note - He will be allowed to leave because Santos cannot get sufficient sponsorship to cover the costs of both him and Neymar. Ganso's preference is for AC Milan or Barcelona. Milan are not able to move for him in January as they have a non-EU quota issue. I suspect that Barcelona would not be interested before the summer. He was not keen on a move to England but there remains a chance that something can be done with Chelsea.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 - You do not need to tell me that mate, I say the same to others on this page, but both Oezil & Goetze will want to play every game. Neither will ever want to sit on the bench, especially the stroppy Mesut. Although Real Madrid will certainly appeal to Mario with the German/Turkish personnel already at the club.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I am not sure how the Turkish will influence his decision.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 - Oezil, Altintop, Sahin are all buddies at Real Madrid. Germany have a large number of players in their youth set-up of Turkish descent.

Ed, what do you make of Sahin's replacement 'Gundogan'? Can you see him being good enough to play at the highest level in the EPL?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - But what has the Turkish link got to do with Goetze? Guendogan is a kid starting out - I have no real idea how he will end up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Good friends with Sahin, who is good friends with Altintop? I guess it is really a German connection more than Turkish. Ed, why can't we use German letters in this site?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - You can if you would like. You won't be able to cut and paste them so you will need the ASCII codes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

It's "Ozil" {Ed002's Note - Not written without an umlaut it isn't.}

Any Chances of united signing Krasic or Eden Hazard ?

Believable12 Unbelievable7

Both are wingers aren't they? With Nani, Toni, Ash, Giggsy, and Park I don't think another winger is the solution to our midfield problem

Sparty On

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Hazard would be fantastic and we are bound to be in the mix, although not for the 45m illion mentioned

ed is it true that nani was made available in the summer for the right price , if so has anything changed
jred {Ed001's Note - he was available for sale, discussions were held with Juventus, I assumed they were going well hence the arrival of Young. But Nani rejected the move and is not interested, currently, in leaving.}

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I thought he had a good season last year strange united were happy to let him leave, good job we never, given valencia's form
jred {Ed001's Note - I never understood it either, I assumed his inconsistency or his attitude were behind it. Though, since then, I am beginning to wonder if it might have been about money. Could he have been the one being sold to raise the final bit of funding to pay for the CM everyone is crying out for? He would certainly have been sold for 30m+, I believe, round about double the price of the replacement Young.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He was quite often left out of the big games so maybe the feeling was what's the point of having a 30+ mill player who doesn't play against the likes of barce, fergy might of made the tough call to sell him and use the money to buy a cm who might help us compete with barce
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully now fergie has said we're better off keeping him.. nani has become the guy everyone relies on to turn a game on its head if rooney hasn't already. I'm gonna be honest i love watching nani, one of our most exciting players. He may not be the most consistent at getting the job done but i can only see him get better this season..

Ozwald

Towards the end of last season, around March time, Nani asked the board for an improved contract which was rejected. It was rejected because he only signed a new deal a year before that for £3m a year (£60k a week). Nani felt he deserved a better contract because of the season he was having and other players around him were getting bigger contracts than he had got. He was so unhappy that United prepared for life without him (by signing Young) but come the end he decided he wanted to stay. They basically called his bluff and won. After signing Young and retaining Nani, SAF offloaded Bebe & Obertan. So there you have it. That is why United were listening to offers for Nani.

Personally I understand where Nani was coming from, he was our best player up until Xmas last year and was on a pretty low wage for a footballer of his quality.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought maybe the reason we were willing to sell nani was due to our belief we were going to sign sanchez.how is he getting on at barcelona,does anyone know.joeyored

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001 you mentioned it was maybe inconsistency, after last season's 19 assists and 10 prem goals I find that hard to believe. Attitude is the more likely.... HERBIE {Ed001's Note - yes he did have good stats, but he was still inconsistent, he was non-existent far too often for a player of his quality.}

Agree0 Disagree0

All is quiet, just like i thought he's lost amongst the stars.. by that i mean now he is surrounded by world class footballers he isn't standing out at all. Just what i thought would happen if he joined barca!

Ozwald {Ed001's Note - Sanchez has been injured! Hard to stand out on the pitch when you are on the treatment table.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Imagine what he could've achieved if he kept it going through the whole season.... HERBIE {Ed001's Note - quite a scary thought really, shame he didn't.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The money if he had left would of gone towards bale i think

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly did think Nani was going to go in the summer. I thought we would sell him and buy Sneijder then Valencia would've played down the right, Young down the left and Sneijder behind Rooney and Hernandez.

But, I was wrong and I'm glad I was wrong. Nani, for me, is our best player so far this season.

I believe if we can hold on to him til atleast next summer he will be worth a lot more than he is now.
