Eds, reports in portugal say that a deal for liverpool to sign gaitan is imminent. do you know if this is true?

Ozzy {Ed002's Note - Manchester United and Barcelona both showed interest in the winger but Inter PSG or Napoli may be the first to eventually put an offer on the table for Gaitan. My understanding is that Manchester United and PSG did speak with Benfica in January but no bid was made. I understand that it remains the case that Benfica are aware of sustained interest and are aware that Inter Milan and possibly Liverpool are now looking at the player. Asking price is and will continue to be an issue. If Manchester United can agree a price I am told that the player would welcome the move. Napoli are actively seeking a replacement for Lavezzi and still may return for Gaitan or Ramirez.}

Believable9 Unbelievable21

He is not united quality anyway

Agree2 Disagree0

Us Barca Inter and PSG are all interested in him but you don't think he is "United quality" yeah I guess you are a better scout than all of the scouts used by some of the top clubs in the world. Nico Gaitan is a great player and he would be a very important player for us if we signed him. Do you seriously think that Nani and Young are better left wingers than Gaitan? Nani maybe a slightly better player when played on the right but if you compare his performances.on the left to Gaitan then you'll see Gaitan is the better player as a left winger. So he would be an improvement to our squad and it would be dissapointing if he went to Liverpool as he would massively improve them as a team.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree1

Barca interest never confirmed probable came from an agent inter are not the force they were psg have unlimited amounts of cash i personally feel benfica liverpool napoli would be his level rather than barca real two manchester clubs

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be gutted if scousers or anyone else for that matter get Gaitan. He looks a great player, reportedly very keen on joining us judging from reports back in April. Would be a fabulous option to have Gaitan left wing and Valencia right with Young and Nani as cover.

I believe Gaitan can also play attacking midfield too so would give us versatility.

Have posted previously that a move for a 23yo Gaitan will have more immediate impact than a 19yo 'still learning' Moura.

As we do not seem to be being linked with central midfielders (heavy reliance on Carrick for either centre mid role, Scholes playing a part, Cleverley hoping for an injury-free season, Anderson being given one last chance) Gaitan represents THE transfer target I would like us to go for.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree1

If we could get Gaitan Dembele and a left back like Oviedo or Izaguirre to go with Kagawa and Powell then I think we'll have had a very good summer.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Two centre midfield spots-Carrick,Cleverley,Scholes,Giggs,Anderson,Fletcher? and Powell. Even Jones,Kagawa or Rooney at a push, not the greatest but still pretty good and well covered. Spend elsewhere,Moura and a left back needed more. Then ideally sell Nani and bring in a midfielder

Any truth to the rumours about Man U's interest in River Plates Ezequiel Cirigliano. REDEVIL76 {Ed002's Note - Manchester United and Genoa have enquired after Ezequiel Cirigliano but Napoli are pushing to complete a transfer and seem a likely destination.}

Believable8 Unbelievable11

United is interested in everyone they can get on the cheap. next it will be someone of the seychelles league.

Agree0 Disagree2

He looks a good prospect and if he goes to Napoli we've missed out again as in around 2-3 seasons he'll be worth 20 million minimum more likely 25 and chumps like you will be moaning why didn't we sign him in 2012.

Okay, I'll be excited about Lucas Moura coming, if it costs €40m though that's steep for a player that would have to adapt to European football & lifestyle.
Also Valencia & Nani play right side & are probably the 2 best wingers in the EPL.
So even if we end up getting Dembele instead I'd be quite happy, good age, powerful & used to play up front so he'd get goals from midfield. Most importantly left footed so would push Young for left wing, Anderson for left side centre mid in a 3 or Kagawa playing behind Rooney against the more robust defences ala Stoke.
Dembele would be purchased for 12m so it leaves money for a quality LB Baines, Oviedo or Izzy from Celtic.

Any news on Sahin loan yet???
Bound to be Spurs as a sweetener for rat face
:-(

Believable6 Unbelievable14

Rat face! Hilarious!! I want 3 more players in at United, RVP, Moura hopefully if not Dembele, and a left back that will push Evra, Surely not much to ask! TomP

Agree0 Disagree0

I dnt think that nani and velencia are the top wingers in the epl velencia yes but hate to say it david silva is the best winger in the epl.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to see Baines, Modric and RVP. Selling Nani for 30m should make room for them. Lucas would be a bonus.
I can always dream....

Agree0 Disagree2

Silva isn't a winger. He's a playmaker, the fact that he tends to play in the wide position doesn't make him a winger. Same as Modric, Nasri etc.

Thorne

Agree2 Disagree0

Silva was awful for the 2nd half of the season, a bit like Nani when he got his chance

Agree2 Disagree0

Nani & Modric love child = Splinter.

Seriously though Nani needs to go, gives the ball away far too much and isnt on the same wave length as most of the players - Rooney in particular would be pleased to see the back of him as his frustration at Nani is clear to see most weeks. Valencia & Rafael, best pairing on the right, it's the left that needs the work.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dembele struggled to stand out at Fulham. How will signing him positively affect our chances of winning silverware next season?
Surely we should be aiming a little higher?

Seen more reports this morning that united are looking at dembele does anyone know If there's any truth in these rumours? I for one think he would fit well in the midfield

Edds? Syd?

Dwright

Believable6 Unbelievable13

Tall, powerful, good age, he's played as a striker so he can also finish.

Agree0 Disagree1

Worth 15mil? Not seen a lot of him only a few bits

Dwright

Agree0 Disagree0

Acceptable but is admitting we cant compete for the main targets like Modric, Moutinho, Lucas etc.

It's funny how nobody has talked about Nuri Sahin here. Real Madrid got him from Dortmund for 10m only and he only made 4 appearances for Real Madrid. They have openly admitted that they are ready to let him go. I believe if they signed him for 10m, and the number of appearances he made for them will actually allow him to leave real Madrid for as little at 5m-7m. Ferguson should actually sign him, he's a pure class and would be value for money! What's your say on this Ed? {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Believable14 Unbelievable3

He's available on a loan deal. No brainier really, if he works out sign him, if he flops no fee! That's value in the market Fergie always craves and as a dm he would balance the team a bit better.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's obviously going as sweetener to Spurs on loan with a set fee maybe 12/15m.
Why don't we cause a stink and put a bid of 12m in for Sahin. It'll do Levy's head in and it's about time we bought a player off Madrid. He was injured last season & he'll be fit & ready this season I'm sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

I always burst into laughter when I see people begging for a Nuri Sahin move... The day Sahin pulls on a United shirt mine comes off!! Most Valuable Club in the World no place for an average Turk!!
- Newton Heath 1878 {Ed004's Note - He is a brilliant player so am not sure why you would be annoyed. There is a reason Madrid signed him}

Agree0 Disagree0

People have mentioned Sahin, me included, as I think he would be quality and he would fit perfectly alongside Carrick and Kagawa. We know he would link up well with Kagawa, and I think with that central trio we would play faster football and we would keep the ball much better and create more chances. Gilly

Agree1 Disagree0

You should take off your united shirt now because if you don't know that sahin is a top class player your are no football fan in my mind.

Ed004, Honestly the only reason they signed him because they thought he had a good World Cup campaign like, Gotze, Kedhira and Ozil... Unfortunately they signed 2 average players of them 4... Ozil has been great this year, Kedhira has been average nothing to get people out of their seats, and the raw deal was Sahin which has backfired due to injury..

If he has as much ability as people who play fifa think then Real wont loan him or sell him on the cheap... In my opinion peoples appreciation for sahin only comes from FIFA.. Because i have no clue where people get these absurd ideas that he is the next big thing! Remember if he comes to England and flops, you heard it here first!
- Newton Heath 1878 {Ed004's Note - Sahin didn't play in the world cup though. I am nearly 100% sure the Turks didn't qualify for it. He was signed because he dictated games against the likes of Schweinsteiger and was one of the main reasons Dortmund had such a fantastic season. He was one of their main players}

Is Lucas Moura what we need?

How much of a difference will he make to our team next year and how we play? Not that much I say, I don't doubt that he has a good chance of becoming a decent player but the difference between him, Young and Nani is very minimal. I think he will become better than those two in many years to come but as for next season or the season after, I don't think he will add sufficiently to the team.

We need someone with strength, aggression, determination, some fire in them. I personally can't rate Fellaini highly enough, he is everything that we are missing in the middle of the park but he is not just the above, he does have a good footballing brain and can go forward as well.

I know people will say that's not how we play or that's not SAF style but I disagree. SAF recently said that Carrick could be the key to our season next year... Shocking comment. I do think Carrick is decent but if he is our key we are in big trouble.

I'm not fussed if we spend big or not, I am fussed if we spend big on players that aren't going to dramatically add to the team! I think we need a left back, a striker to take the weight of Rooney and allow him more freedom and quite simply... Fellaini

I would appreciate any Eds thought's on Fellaini and his possible availability?

Nick87MUFC

Believable19 Unbelievable10

Good post and agree with the felaini suggestion. If you look at how we played last season one of our biggest down falls was not being able to win back possession from teams such as city and also in Europe (Bilbao) I think felaini coming in would then free up Carrick to play in the role SAF means he could he key for us (dictating tempo and getting ball into the danger areas)
I disagree with the left back suggestion I think evra is more then capable of being our left back this season and then look to play fabio there next season after what I believe will be a successful and player making loan at qpr.

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO Everton would not sell for less 20 million, 25 would probably be more appropriate. He is a really good player but buying him would probably sacrifice other positions, especially if Moura comes in. LB may take a hit and for me, that's unacceptable...we have no decent cover there at all! I'd go for Dembele or Sahin, both available for around 10 million. Sahin would be my choice for a number of reasons; the main one being he has played in Europe. I think he's knocked up about 12 appearances in European competitions(?) and he was the Bundesliga player of the year in 2011 (think we have another one of those too!). We have a pretty good relationship with Madrid and I think if we were to make a credible bid (8 million would be appropriate I feel) I reckon we could land him! This gives us options to bring in a LB (Baines would be a good shout, as Everton would not sell both Fellaini and Baines for cheap) and we would still have the cash to bring in Moura. Hell of a squad and IMO, not beyond the realms of possibility.

Andy

Agree0 Disagree1

Moura is already a better play than Young and Nani and with Man Utd's guidance he'll become one of the best players in the world. Man Utd need more flair, Moura has that in abundance

Agree1 Disagree0

The ONLY person I would have from Everton is Fellaini. He has heights which we desperately need, esp going forward, strength and not afraid to get stuck in. We do NOT need Baines, the is a complete waste of money for a one season fix. Keep with Evra and see what Fabio is like upon his return from loan, then make a decision.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree.... is he talking bout the same carrick i have watched home and away for the last 3 seasons, always the same talk up big changes up until renewal time then the old "happy with the squad we got" routine. Think we missed out on Oscar (chelsea) much better than Moura, Wanyama from Celtic looked good last season maybe for 5-7m he would be better value

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people talk about Fellani so much. We have never shown an interest so I doubt we ever will consider making a move for him. He obviously doesn't fit with what Ferguson thinks we need

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy, you say Fellaini might mean missing out in other areas due to his cost, but surely this is the area we most need to strengthen.

IMO most of the players we are being seriously linked with would mean missing out on a decent cm, which is the real worry.

Last season we were good both defending and going forward, good enough to finish level with city despite a lightweight midfield. However, we consistently lost out to good teams because we couldn't compete in midfield. If we don't fix this we're going to keep struggling in Europe, and we may even start to struggle domestically, although I still can't see us dropping out of the top 3 yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

My Brother in Law is an Everton season ticket holder. He is rubbing his hands at the the thought of a 20 million pound bid for Fellaini. Everyon would snap our fingers off, should we come in with a high bid.
People that see him on a daily basis seem to think he goes missing too easily, particularly in the trickier, gritty games. (away to wigan in january on a cold, rainy day)

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 100% moura overpriced, we need strog cm's and fellaini is the best bet

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini is a great at heading and strong he is a decent defender but anyone who wants him at united is seeing throught the fact that modern day teams play flowing football (Barceloan). Fellaini is very poor at picking out passes and if you look at Kagawa's signing and intrest in Moura it is flowing football which we aim to play. Moutinho would be a better option for a simular price (25m), great passer who interupts play well and is expirienced in europe and is used to playing flowing football for porto and portugal.
