Eds...given de Rossi's position in the Roma team and how important he is to them, can he be considered an unattainable target? I know we've been interested in him before and he is a quality player! I suppose his age would be the only downside he has.

Andy {Ed007's Note - MOTD fever.........

Believable8 Unbelievable6

This standard reply of "motd fever" is getting tired. De rossi is a player who has long been mentioned on this site, so someone asking questions about him after another successful game in what has been a good tournament for him doesn't necessarily constitute "motd fever" at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually ed007 I have previously posted about de Rossi and didn't get a reply. This site would be a lot better if it wasn't run so cynically. Most of the eds have thrown up this ''MOTD fever'' over the past day or two and using it is complete b.s...all the players mentioned in regards to this are quality players who have been on the radar for football fans for a long time, they're simply being talked about now because they're in the spotlight. Do all the users of this site a favor and actually answer their questions!

Andy {Ed007's Note - It's MOTD the fever when people sit and watch a game then bombard us with the same questions that have already been answered. The search function was installed to cut down on repetitiveness. If people are too lazy or thick to use it before asking a question, that is not our fault. Would you rather the page was filled with answers to random questions about players that are flavour of the month in a tournament/FIFA/PES/FM or would you rather read about Man Utd? If you don't like the site or is isn't what you are looking for then nobody forces you to read it. FYI according to the percentage of posts we have received 56% have linked Utd or asked about 83% of player at the Euros that can pass a ball in a straight line, or take a corner. The figure rises to around 92% if they score a goal and derogatory posts about ANY player's ability rises by 97% if they make one single mistake, even to forgetting to sing their national anthem.}

Well said {Ed007's Note -

Agree0 Disagree0

Here here 007.

de rossi to man utd is as far fetched as star wars.

Cretins and the emu.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be fair here though, De Rossi has be linked with United even when United beat Roma 7-1. So its hardly any surprise its coming up. As far as I'm aware, he wants a change, but hes completely loyal to Roma, as he's lived there all his life. But as they've not too many trophies to their name in recent years, he's open to a move. But he recently signed a 5 year contract, and I think that was last year, but I could be wrong. I'd like to see him at United, anyone like De Rossi or Fellani, or maybe even Witsel or Tiote. Think if United actually sorted the problem of having a ball winning midfielder (despite Carrick being excellent and interceptions, you dont often see him brave in the tackle, and I think with his range of passing he could be our creative mid) then it could help the likes of Ando of Clev's flourish into top footballers. Then again if we adopted the 4-2-3-1 formation our holding mids could be De Rossi, and Carrick with Kagwa behind Rooney, and Nani and Young on the flanks for creativity

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 007, don't you think this summer we should sign all the Italy team, and if it's not asking too much, have the coach as replacement for when fergie retires, or am I thinking abit too extreme??

Big Stevvy {Ed007's Note - I'm waiting to see who wins the final. I have heard that Spain, the entire country, not the team are moving to Ashton Under Lyne and Stalybridge to entice the future Brazilian 2022 World Cup squad to do an Escape To Victoryesque win against the invading race from a cross breed of Greek gods, Bod and Morph from Tony Hart.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair though, De Rossi has always been regarded quite highly as a solid defensive midfielder with a fair bit of talent when going forward. I can see why people would bring him up considering putting in a good display for Italy tonight.. Not the kind of MOTD fever you get where someone talks about a less talented player that has a single good game? De Rossi has proven to be a talent many times. Can't imagine he'd be a realistic target for us right now though.. If he ever was!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha I've heard that too edd 007, sure it was rafa Benitez who originally said it aswell

Big Stevvy {Ed007's Note - And we all know how that worked out....

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Andy. Some of the eds are far too cynical. {Ed002's Note - The eds can be as cynical and sarcastic as they wish. They make their time available free of charge to keep these pages running. They have to put up with the constant bleating and abuse. You should build a statue to Ed007 in your home town so everyone can worship him. So what we are going to do is have a competition and you can submit your entries to the Manchester United Sightings page. Clearly mark you entries as being an entry in the "Design an Ed007 Monument" competition as I don't want them confused with sightings of my old buddy Aron Kay at Old Trafford.

You have signed up for the Ed002 Appreciation Society I hope at: tinyurl.com/7fbgecd }

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Ed002 you're absolutely right, they can be 'as cynical and sarcastic as they wish', which we are all well aware of.. But it is to the detriment of this site, and perhaps one of the reasons for the 'constant bleating and abuse.'
Keep up the good work! {Ed002's Note - I expect a copetion entry from you. Crayon is just as acceptable as pen.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed002, I do actually have an idea for a statue to be built in your honour.. Something similar to Michelangelo's David, but with the c**k located on the forehead. {Ed002's Note - That would be c**ks.}

Some reports again saying Utd have an offer of 22m in for Modric,Now unless Howard Wilkinson is somehow taking over at spurs there is total no chance at that price even more so as its dealing with Levy!All a bid like that does is shows Utds interest&we all know other teams coming chasing&we lose the player,At least go in with a realistic bid&give us chance of getting deal done quickly

Believable20 Unbelievable15

Totally agree, has happened on so many occasions!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we'd bid so little. It's a shockingly low price. Ł30m- Ł35m seems fair.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ł25m-Ł30m seems fair. Cesc went for Ł33m and Nasri went for Ł23m. Sneijder was available for around Ł30m. So Ł25m plus add ons seems very fair to me.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely they're testing the waters and see what Spurs come back with..

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a sensible offer what spurs are hoping for is that one of the crazy clubs ie city Chelsea or Madrid come in with a serious offer to blow us out the water
All utd are doing is placing realistic offers on the table that's if it's true

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I don't see united offering more than around the 25millon mark due to a few reasons that have been covered many times on this site.
One of the Ed's (sorry not sure which one) said a 25million bid could be enough to tempt Madrid to sell ozil and in my eyes he is a far better and younger player so I can't see us bidding much more for modric.
We should all know by know that Fergie and united won't be help to ransom and will simply move onto the next target.
People are getting way too caught up in the modric saga as they did last year with a certain Milan player.

Chris!

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no way spurs are going to accept 22mill
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps fergie is waiting to match Someone else's exempted bid instead of just bidding higher and higher and seein the price skyrocket. Auction tactics 101!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank goodness none of you guys are in charge of finances....we'd be bust within one transfer window.
Ł22 million is a good opener,imo all this supposed interest from madrid is fantasy, spurs are using the media to create a fictional bidding war and force utds hand, utd are in a better position, modric wants CL football--utd can offer that plus much more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd are being linked with everyone and their dog. Modric; Strootman; some random Frenchman, Pole or Brazilian every other day of the week. What history tells us though is that Spurs always get the very best price from Utd for players, so if Modric does arrive from Spurs he isn't going to be the bargain of the year. Cantonas and the Vidics are prizes that are getting rarer and rarer...

I really hope modric we sign modric. If he went to Madrid it would probably ruin is career just like kaka. Would like to know if united have any alternatives to modric, someone like sahin.

id also prefer Sahin.
If we were going to sign Modric i feel the deal would already be done...

Sahin has released a statement saying he is happy at Madrid and doesnt want to leave so very much doubt we will sign him

Chris!

The fact tha Sagin wants to stay at Madrid gives me hope that Modric may end up at united instead of real.

Which is good as Spurs wanted him within the Modric Deal

If it is true that we are trying to get Rodriguez and use Anderson as a sweetener in the deal then i really hope SAF isn't thinking of playing Kagawa in a midfield two, we have to play kagawa in the hole where he flurishes.
We don't want to make the same mistake again like we did when trying to convert an attacking midfielder into a box to box midielder..

JK92

Believable29 Unbelievable8

I can confirm United have had a bid involving Anderson turned down for Rodriguez.
PSY

Agree0 Disagree0

PSY - any idea how much plus Ando? I'd say Ł18m plus Ando would be a fair deal

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, really hope SAF allows Kagawa to flourish in his natural position. Playing him in a centre midfield 2 would be a waste of his abilities

Gav

Dont worry boys, I'd like to think Fergie would be aware of that.

In fergie we trust n all that, he know's what he's doing, come on.....this is fergie we're talking about

Giants 14

Agree0 Disagree0

30million is a bit extravagant and not a big fan of baines(especially if he's going at the same price as alba), but would love to see fellaini as he's just what we need in the centre and he can get up the field, AND he's accomplished in the premier league.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish and will be hoping this is true. Fellani the kind of DM we need, kinda like an Alex Song but a fresher talent (although song's passes are claaas)

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell,s far better. Suited to Utd but you lot only remember players from last week,come t,row morning it will be pirlo& schwinstiger you make me laugh
Sir Alex is not like Abromovich telling David Gill get him@him whilst watching euros be patient he will only buy who was on his initial list and if not he,ll give the kids a chance {Ed004's Note - I am sorry are you trying to compare Schweinsteiger and Pirlo to a player that struggles to get into an Everton side and who is hugely injury prone?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think fellani could be just what we need , would be quite happy if we signed him
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

A player who is 21 represented England at every level and picked up an injury having made a fantastic debut for England
He will return to fitness and will walk back into Evertons team and by the time you,be smelled the coffee City& Chealsea will be in! {Ed004's Note - This is the same guy who has had one good game for England on his debut and you want us to sign him yet you are criticising those who will be asking for the signings of Pirlo and Schweinsteiger tomorrow after they have another good game. I sorry that has to be one of the worst cases of hypocrisy on this site in a while now}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've physically seen him about 6 times for everton and he does what Carrick Hargreaves fletcher could do keep possession very well as more of as goal threat about him if he's not restricted and is English
I don't scroll You Tube looking for our replacements and neither do Fergie& Gill

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell is a quality player WHEN FIT. That is the issue with him.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be made up with this but i am a massive fellani fan have been for the last two years in dream land we would get those two modric and rodriguez and sell nani berbatov anderson with kawaga and powell tat would be a fantastic summer come fergie sign them up!

We are not interested in Fellaini.

LUKA MODRIC's dream move to Real Madrid suffered a blow after one of the club's former stars claimed he wasn't good enough for the Spanish champions.

Guti, who played more than 500 games for Real, has told boss Jose Mourinho to go for Manchester City's David Silva rather than the Tottenham man.

Modric is thought to be close to securing a move to Spain after reportedly telling Spurs bosses he had no future at White Hart Lane.

But it seems that he might not be a popular signing amongst the club's fans, with many preferring the Bernabeu side to target former Valencia star Silva instead.

“He [Modric] hasn’t even been the key man for Tottenham, I don’t think he’s done enough to play for Madrid,” Guti told Spanish newspaper Marca.

“I would go for David Silva in this position. I think he’s the ideal player for Real Madrid.

"He’s young, has bags of talent and potential, and has achieved great things with Manchester City and Spain.”

It remains to be seen whether Mourinho will listen to the advice of the former Spain international, who has been linked with a summer move to West Ham.

But Modric's representatives will start to worry that their client's transfer to La Liga might not the done deal they had thought.

Spurs are reported to want exciting Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin in part-exchange for the Croatian international.

Reports linking Luka Modric to a move to Real Madrid are rubbish as madrid prefers other alternative and have little interest in him. Man utd has tabled a 22m for him which has not been rejected or accepted , and luka modric had an agreement with tottenham last season that if they didn't qualify for champ league he would leave, he would drop a transfer request likely this week, though tottenham would try their best to convince him to stay, if he disagrees, tottenham would accept a 22m bid from United that is why it hasn't been rejected since for him and David Gill has confirmed two more signings hopefully. United should expect him if nothing goes wrong. Chidubest Man utd 4 live

Believable23 Unbelievable10

There is no way that Levy would sell one of his crown jewels for 22m. I think 40 m Euros or just over 32m pounds sterling would be the least he's cost. Remember, levy played hard ball with us over Carrick and Berbatov, why do you think he's change?

Dzagoev hasnt commented on his future but will most likely want to play for a club in the CL.
His contract is up in Jan so would come fairly cheap HOWEVER let Arshavin be a warning. Looks a World beater for Russia, looked a World beater in Russia but has been a flop at Arsenal

I also thought he was focused on winning league titles & playing in CL therefore confused as to why he would think about Liverpool as they wont be for many years to come?

Manchester United end interest in Modric as Tottenham star edges towards Real Madrid

Sir Alex Ferguson is not willing to meet Spurs' £40m asking price for the Croatian playmaker as the Londoners discuss a deal with the Spanish giants source-

Believable21 Unbelievable29

Madrid won't be meeting the 40 mill either . Once modric submits his request and if spurs want rid they will come back to us both and start talking realistic figures

Agree0 Disagree0

Source ? LMFAO ! Nuff said {Ed004's Note - I don't get why people ask for sources. Anyone that has sources wouldn't reveal them anyways}

Agree0 Disagree0

If spurs are keen on players as well as cash why cant we offer say 25-30m + anderson?

Agree0 Disagree0

United ended Modric interest 2 weeks ago- everyone getting carried away with speculation, Fergie will not pay more than Ł25 mill and is looking elsewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

Keisuke Honda would be a good buy, less that Ł20m superb technical ability and vision. Can defend to, works amazingly well with Shinji.. Why not? Come on SAF buy the Japanese Fabregas! Haha

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Back to Sneijder then.........(Ducks for cover) ;)

Giants14

Agree0 Disagree0

Been very impressed by Moutinho from Portugal anybody know if he would be available? My preferred choice would be Sneijder but we wont go there.... We will never pay 40 million for Modric and we have no change of Ozil why would he want to leave Madrid?

Damian M

Agree0 Disagree0

The truth is madrid cant afford modric, the spanish economy is in a mess and every year they bail them out but this year theyve been told theres no money for big transfers unless they sell first.united wont or cant go to 40 million for him which is the asking price..........my bet is PSG will meet the price.....but does modric want french football? unless modric states he wants to go to united then its not going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Spanish economy has nothing to do with Real Madrid. They have the second highest wages of any franchise. I think he should be tempted to play with us because he'll know that he assured in the starting lineup. He'll behind Alonso for a good number of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mmmmmm Spanish giant source

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not believe we have pulled out of the race to sign Modric, I think we may have an offer on the table albeit not a formal offer in writing. I think we will still explore other avenues, but will be keeping a close eye on where this goes.

I think Modric prefers us to RM due to playing time, but I think it's his reps and Spurs who want him to move elsewhere. Spurs will want him out of the country and probably to PSG for an all cash sale. As soon as Sahin is offered to Spurs I think we should look at turning his head towards Manchester.

I think this will drag on for some time yet, one thing for sure though is Spurs will not get Ł40m from any of the three clubs interested. Ł30m is the most they will get. I think even less from RM.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric and more so Sneijder are at the wrong end of Utds policy on spending big. Sneijder will be 28 this season, Modric will be 27. Both clubs will command fees in excess of Ł25M Both players will command wages in excess of Ł100k.

Id love to see Modric at Utd but i cant see SAF being held to ransom

Theres been talk of Gaitan again and the thing i think we need to think about with him is will he improve us.

Now if we signed him he'd be playing on the left instead of Young, do you think he is a better option than Young? I do.

It would also mean that Nani would be likely to be sold to recoupe some money. So is Gaitan better than Nani?

Now this is a much tougher question as it depends which Nani you compare him too. On his day Nani is the better player by far but when Nani is having an off day then i would say Gaitan is the far better player. If you were to rate their performances then on any given day Nani could get between 4-9 depending on whether its a good day or bad day for him. Where as Gaitan would get between 6-8, he will never match one of Nani's good days but like wise he'll never be as bad as Nani on one of his off days. So you could argue that Gaitan is the more conssistant but less spectacular player.

Nani has always suffered with poor decision making leading to the breaking down of moves and the loss of possession, where as his decision making is one of Gaitan's strong suits. Gaitan is more of a team player, younger and has more room to improve where as Nani is about as good as he'll get. I also think the potential new style of play would be better suited to Gaitan than Nani due to Nani's selfish streak and poor decision making.

So my conclusion is that i don't think signing Gaitan would be as bad as some people make out. No he'll never win a game on his own but he will help the team to win the game every week.

if we change formations and play more fluid formation then nani will play on the right as he does with portugal and new signing on the left......... with rooney up top and 3 in the middle...

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems the club are trying to move Nani on, they were listening to offers last summer and seem unwilling to offer him a decent wage increase and are dragging out descussions over a new deal. It does look like they are trying to move him on. Which is why it appears that we are after a replacement and not someone to play with Nani. Which is a shame as I like Nani, but we need to look at the realism of the situation, we need to balance.the books and can't spend money like City Chelsea or even PSG who have cash rich sugar daddies.

Why do we need to balance the books , we have only bought kagawa and powell

Well were gonna sign 1 or 2 more, which could cost 50m or more if we sign Modric and Rodriquez who we are currently looking at add that to the 20m Kagawa and Powell cost thats 70m potentially in which case the books will need to be balanced abit. The problem comes if we sell Nani and don't sign anyone else.

First time posting on here, was wandering what the situation with strootman really is? Have we made a bid? Personally I would prefer m'villa but he seems to be going to arsenal. Strootman would not be a bad back up. Also I would like to know if we have really made a bid for Rodriguez and if so does this mean nani is on his way out? {Ed002's Note - Manchester United have been looking at Kevin Strootman who has previously been watched by Liverpool but I would be surprised if PSV would look to sell just yet. I would expect plenty of interest if he does become available - not least from AC Milan.

Two bids have been made for Rodriguez including one from Manchester United. These were not acceptable.}
