News from a totally unreliable source is that the strootman deal is all but done at £17m

Hopefully one down two or three to go

Pedroknight

Believable52 Unbelievable20

I just don't get thus no other club competing for his signature so why the big fee.
I'd be amazed if he turns up at OT.
Dylan

Agree1 Disagree1

Lets hope so

Agree0 Disagree0

Big fee! for hollands vice captain who is only 23! Cheap in my eyes

Agree3 Disagree0

28 May 2013 22:14:05
its not a big fee at all, compare it to the amounts already being spent this summer or last summer on players like moutinho or witsel.

Agree2 Disagree0

KS is Pure Dutch Class £17 Million is a bargain. £24 Million for Fellaini, £23 Million is the price of his hair cut alone

Agree3 Disagree0

Big fees paid by desperate Oligarch owned fantasy football clubs.
I'm sorry to keep repeating myself but this lad does not improve us Alcantara would for the same if not less investment.
If it does come off I hope I'm proved wrong!
Dylan

Agree0 Disagree2

Not a big fee at all, if he was english the price would be monumental compared to that, just look at jordan henderson, strootman is twice the player he is at a similar price!

Agree2 Disagree0

In todays market it isn't a big fee, pretty standard. To be fair Dylan Strootman and Alacantra are different types of midfielders, but yes Thiago really would be good value and from what I have seen of Strootman which is admittedly no that much I don't get the hype, good player but reminds me a bit of when we were continually linked with Defour and he has done ok but hardly set the world alight has he and was hyped to the hilt
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Invisible STuey, It is difficult to fully judge quite how good someone coming out of the dutch league will be, due to the lack of serious European pedigree domestically. For example, Ryan Babel was touted as being the best thing since sliced bread and well. he didn't quite live up to that. Or Afonso Alves, he was supposedly a brilliant player, scoring 7 in one game for Herenveen, turned up at Boro and was a huge flop. Then on the other hand you have players like Suarez who is truly a world class player (yes, as a United fan it pains me to say) so I think you would have to wait until he plays in one of the top leagues to really see if he's good enough. I hope he doesn't sign personally as we need to strengthen our wide areas as we are surprisingly lacking more there than in cm as it stands IMO.

Agree0 Disagree3

Alves? bit of a rash statement, he was a fantastic player, let's not forget the 2 fantastic goals afonso alves scored against us ;)

Agree0 Disagree1

Just think of the success of some of our previous Dutch international signings. Stam, RvN, VDS. Pure class. let's bring him on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman has done well on the international stage which is always a slightly better way of judging but yeah we'll just have to see how he adapts, he does like capable IMO. No name poster, I wouldn't say we're weak in our wide areas, we have 3 wingers plus Zaha coming in, I have a sneaky feeling Nani could shine again under a new manager because he won't constantly sh*t himself if he does something wrong which is usually what makes him more hesitant and poor. Would love to see an in form Nani on the left and Zaha on the right constantly switching wings.

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

Dylan, I'm guessing you've never seen this guy play, or us for that matter if you think the only player we need in cm is Thiago. £17m is cheep for him and also there are 3-4 clubs who are keen on acquiring his services

Agree0 Disagree0

Dylan, strootman is class act and at 23 he going to get even better. exactly the type of player we need. Box to box, good tackler with an eye for a pass! Dutch players on the whole tend to do well in the epl too. The midfield situation been needing sorting for a while and Wrekon strootman b less of a risk than thiago who may I add can't get a game for Spain or barca.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need some steel - Fellaini would give us plenty and has proved his worth in the EPL. We also need guile and Tiago for 17m is the answer. He's young, skillful, picks a pass and knows where the goal is. I think Strootman is like a more classy version of Fletcher, a good player but a jack of all trades, master of none. He was linked to United for a couple of seasons and SAF didn't open the wallet for him and we have no idea what Moyes thinks of him. Fellaini and Tiago for 40m plus Zaha for 10m down and maybe Shaw and that will be that. If Rooney wants to go to Chelski we should ask for Lukuku (spelling) and 20m

RED91

I think he is Nani's agent too. Who has been linked with Monaco. Mendes is raking it it at the moment. He will have had a part in Mourinho to Chelsea, and whatever happens with Ronaldo he will make a fortune

Rene Meulensteen now favourite to get the Wigan job. Hope he gets it, does a great job, gets more experience and then comes back if Moyes doesn't work out. Not that I want Moyes to do a bad job but I do like Meulensteen so whether we see him back or not I hope he does well.

Nope. Martinez goes to Everton, Moyes comes to us, and the only thing that could complete the circle, and restore balance in this Universe would be Fergie joining his good friend David @ Wigan :)

Best of luck to Rene, Steele and Mike Phelan they done alright by us. Phil Neville, Chris Woods and Giggsy to take their places? (Giggsy or Ole to be our manager in 12 years time when DM retires?)

They are very close friends out of football so I wouldn't read too much into it, but then again it is a new pic so you never know.

Hopefully Ed002 can let us know if there have been talks between us and Thiago's agent or club when he has a spare minute.

Agree0 Disagree1

Didn't actually realise Thiago is former Brazil player Mazinho's son. Remember him from the '94 World Cup. Older posters will remember him I suppose.

BennyBlanco

Agree0 Disagree1

Syd,

how would you know who de gea is friends with outside the game? you make up some amount of crap

Agree0 Disagree2

The message reads: "We always have reasons to be happy. Remembering old times".

Thiago on Sly Sports:
"I just live my life and I am very happy, I enjoy it in Barcelona because I have lived through some great times but we will see what happens after the Euros. Any player is used to living with rumours about him and they just cannot affect you. "

United's interest prompted goalkeeper David de Gea to state that he would like his Spain Under-21 team-mate to join him at Old Trafford, but Thiago brushed off the comments.

"All players want the best players in their team. I could say I hope that he comes to Barca in the same way he says things about me, I just think he was having a bit of fun and not too much should be read into it. "

Agree0 Disagree0

No name, DDG said it in an interview before we played Barcelona in a preseason friendly in 2011. So I heard it straight from the horses mouth.

Seen today on twitter that someone asked DDG to cheekily ask Thiago to sign for UTD, DDG responds with a pic of the pair posing together. I know tis means nothing but it could also be DDG little wink at Thiago is coming, just reading between the lines but allowed a bit of wishful thinking

With Roberto Martinez leaving Wigan and looking like he will join Everton deals for Felliani and Baines to be done quick so he has money and time to buy his own targets, also Tottenham are back next week from Bahamas with Joe Lewis sorting out Bales future the owner has more say than Levy on this so if Bale was to say United and no were else it will be United and no were else Joe is a good guy and would not stand in his way and Knows Tottenham had to get CL football to keep him this season he will not be talked into a new year contract with 50m buy out he wants CL now so expect huge bid from us. Katef

Believable12 Unbelievable20

I can't see bale going anywhere but madrid
jred

Agree1 Disagree0

He's said he'd rather stay in the country, Giggs is his idol, wants tophies and CL football. I'm sure we'll get him, it's just if we decide to part with the kind of money needed! If he comes in and a CM such as Strootman, Thiago or Modric then i'm sure every single United fan will be greatly looking forward to next season.

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

I hope we don't buy Bale he is a ball hog Tottenham have become a one man band and that is not what we are about

Agree0 Disagree1

Money talks. We simply can't afford Bale despite what everyone thinks. £30. 75m for Berba is our record. We won't spend £50m till the debts are gone

Agree0 Disagree0

Money does talk yes but we have a lot more than seasons gone by the debt is down the payments are down the revenue is up do the math we are loaded again and big earners are going to leave or already have so yes Bale is a top target I am shore. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha MRC what are you on about? If you have the skill to get past multiple players shoot and score people won't complain, unless you're saying Ronaldo and Messi are ball hogs? They both see a lot of the ball because they're both very influential players, if you have a good player get them on the ball. stop talking out your backside!

Manchester United are not willing to offer the £70 Million that Real Madrid want for Ronaldo. Some sources, which I am not too sure on, tell me that United will request Chevrloet to provide them with some of the money. Again, not too sure on the last part.

Farley

Believable21 Unbelievable25

Do you honestly think Real would let him go now. Election time. Neymar gone to Barca, Falcao to Monaco. No Superstar left to replace Ronny if he left. As much as I loved Ronaldo here, and would love his return he is very much ego driven and about personal glory and titles. Spanish football makes him look like a super hero, most teams are equivalent of our championship and if it wasn't for Messi he would have won the Ballon D'or numerous times. So I think he will stay and continue to bang in 50 a season and build his legacy as one of greatest ever!

Sambo

Agree3 Disagree0

Sambo, Real would sell if the player wants to go. They can replace him with Bale. Ronaldo will be one of the greatest wherever he goes, it doesn't matter if he plays in La Liga, Premier League or Serie A he is one of the greatest players ever. Personally, I don't think he will come back this season and I actually think he will sign a new contract.

Farley

Agree1 Disagree0

I do not thing it particularly matters about the upcoming election. Florentino Perez has installed a 75 million euro deposit for any prospective presidential candidate, and will therefore stand uncontested.

Agree0 Disagree0

I too think he will stay put, sadly. I also think a lot of what we do depends on Rooneys future. If he left it would give us a lot more financial leeway! Now Lewandowksi, Falcao etc, are already signed for new clubs the replacements are dwindling. United are not a club renowned for deals of this magnitude, and that's why I have never believed us to be close to re-signing Ronaldo.

Sambo

Agree2 Disagree0

28 May 2013 17:47:07
@Sambo, Lewy has not signed for any club yet. I don't see Ronni signing a new deal esp that he is not getting the desired support from team mates. The situation that led to him not happy at Real has not changed much IMO. I think he will remain in Madrid to rundown his contract.

Agree0 Disagree1

Last week it was Nike stumping up the cash to buy Ronaldo, this week it's Chevrolet!

Time to face up to reality, Ronaldo has gone and he isn't coming back. Get over it.

I seen this on twitter so I can only assume like me this is where you heard that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Monaco are becoming a serious force and I for one am not looking foward to more competition in Europe because when they get there and they will, they shall have some of the biggest names in football and it's not looking good

Agree0 Disagree0

They have already bought Rodriguez, are they getting De Maria to warm the subs bench? They have bought 4 players already, presuming Falcao passes his medical. I can't see them going for de Maria as well

a lot of talk on here about Thiago to utd, question is, as I haven't seen very much of him, is he utd quality? get the feeling that barca don't want him more than we actually do want him.

Believable18 Unbelievable2

He would be a snip at £18 million if the rumours are true.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would be a great player in a three man midfield but a liability in a two man midfield. He is highly rated by the fans at Barcelona but he has the tendancy to try and attack and make things happen too much so Vilanova prefers players who will pass pass pass and pass again rather than be abit more forward thinking.

But if Barca wanna sell a very talented young player for a reasonable price then we should at least entertain the idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Massive improvement on "Andesron" as he has been called for a large chunk of his games this season.

Nat

Agree0 Disagree0

Sssh! Monaco might scupper the deal.
Dylan

Agree0 Disagree0

It's even cheaper than that apparently, apparently it's €18mil so around £15.4 mil

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he's quality. Only had to watch him during the United vs Barca game in last season's pre season! Scored a cracker against De Gea too.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Top drawer, no question, would be an excellent signing.

Agree1 Disagree0

Slight difference between Iniesta and Xavi and Cleverley and Anderson! So yes, he is united quality!

Mikey D

Agree0 Disagree0

Barcelona did not want to really get rid of him. They have some great midfielders, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Fabregas and they don't really play with much rotation. This means that Thiago will not get enough playing time. Thiago wants to be in the Spain squad for the 2014 World Cup and the only way he will have a chance is if he starts regularly, so he wants to leave Barcelona and go to a team where he will play on a weekly basis. He is a very talented player and many Barca fans want him to replace Xavi.

Farley

Agree0 Disagree0

When your midfield consists of Anderson, Cleverley and Carrick - Then yes, yes you do want him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Already a very good player and potentially a fantastic one, I agree with the lst reply at £18m a very good price
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Good news all round then, sounds like a quality player, am I right in thinking that Yaya Toure was surplus to requirements when he moved?
same kind of player or different beast all together?

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like him, I think he could be a scholes type player
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Jessop completely different player, reminds me a bit on Deco when he was on top form at Porto.

Agree0 Disagree0

Caolan_2 if that be the case then we should defo focus on him and bring in strootman as well

Strootman---Carrick

Zaha---------Thiago-------Kagawa

-------------Van Persie------------

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats with this wanting to play Kagawa on the left wing? I see it time and time again on these pages and I never understand the desire to put square pegs in round holes.

Kagawa needs a decent run in the team playing as a No 10. Otherwise what's the point of buying him? If we needed a left winger then we should have bought a left winger.

We have Rooney as a no 10 as well, plus RVP who can play there, so unless Thiago can operate in a two man midfield I don't see the point in buying him.

Andrew B

Agree1 Disagree0

Thiago -- Carrick -- Strootman
-----------Kagawa--------------
------- RVP --- Rooney --------

With Kagawa following the ball and supporting the full backs out wide.

Ste.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with Andrew B this fascination folk have with Kagawa as a left winger makes no sense. I would play him as second striker in 4411, in the hole in a 4312 or central element of 4231. His talents are wasted out on the wings. We need to play thru Kagawa.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 11:35:50
I don't understand why Utd don't try to sign Coentrao 26, from Madrid? He looks a very decent LB and with Evra 32, getting older now, I think we should buy him. He'd only cost around 15m as well with him wanting to leave.
MMF

Believable17 Unbelievable18

I have seen him quite a lot this year, and in my opinion I don't think he is all that much different than Evra. (My opinion) Very enthusiastic going forward, player more of left wing on the overlap, but is not the best on the defence side. Reals whole back line has been suspect this season though. I think this is the way the game has evolved now, with fullbacks playing that way, but getting the balance is difficult. Or so it appears.

Sambo

Agree0 Disagree0

He doesn't defend, so we would still have the same problems at LB that we do now. The only difference is we will be 15m+ worst off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did he not sign for Monaco?

Agree0 Disagree0

So who would we sign at LB that is good enough at the defensive side of the game? IMO Buttner is a good player but again like Evra looks suspect going backwards. Baines has defensive frailties, and would cost a similar amount, I think we should personally sign Luke Shaw, who is a young version of Baines and is also at a young enough age to develop his defensive side of the game as well as going forward, similar to what Rafael has done.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 08:12:11
For people saying Thiago is not playing vs Malaga becuase of the U21 Spain squad. The players in the squad will be released on Wednesday to play for their clubs. Thiago will not play more than 60 minutes for Barca as that would change his buy-out clause. United and Barca have agreed on this.

Farley

Believable25 Unbelievable6

Farley. I m not able to get facts for this but my heart is telling me to believe your confidence. nd don't worry I won't ask for your sources as its a rumour site anyway

rodio17

Agree1 Disagree0

The Clause in his contract is for minutes played, not the number of games! So if the minutes add up to less than 60% of all games the release clause will stay at €18m

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes LOL. Why don't Barca just him to United for free LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people get so worked up about release clauses?

Thiago hasn't played many games for Barca this year as Vilanova doesn't trust him and he doesn't rotate players as much a Pep did. Also Pep had spent along time with the youth players and fully knows their abilities.

Thiago will be off loaded this summer to raise funds for new players. Regardless of how many minutes he plays or doesn't play against Malaga his cost will still be about the same.

If the club are trying to buy him then they will do their best to.

But don't get your knickers in a twist about buy out clauses.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its for the Barcelona to decide at what price they wish to sell.

How does it matter whether he has played 60 mins or 90 mins

If barcelona and Manchester United feel he is worth 18 million euros they would transact at that price. Release clauses are not of any consideration if teams are willind to do their business below that.

Victor J.

Agree0 Disagree0

Read somewhere that Thiago has played 46% of required release clause minutes so even if he played a full game he'd still be miles out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly Victor why on earth would Barca agree not to play him for the amount of time that would increase his clause. Either they are prepared to sell him or are they are not, and if they were that desperate to get more money for him they would play him and then negotiate at a higher rate that is still noweher near the release clause, use some common sense people whether or not the first part of Farleys post is true I don't know or particularly care but the last sentence is utter twaddle
