Flat was the most appropriate word, flat before and flat after , well actually flat during the game as well. RVP has quality touches , Hernandez is a better impact player from the bench and Rooney isn't playing well. However it is our lack of control of a home game that should concern us. Anderson was the pick of midfield but after 60 to 70 minutes drops off. Then there is the problem Cleverley and Carrick who gave little penetration, they moved the ball around but nearly always ended up coming backwards. It is that area where we lack quality , the midfield centrally and wide left, there is no hiding it. Young was shocking , obvious and didnt want the ball passes it back so it isnt him that we blame for losing it. Yes top of the league but City are starting to gain momentum and tell me who is afraid of seeing Scholes start at the Etihad.
Tonight Raphael was excellent probably our best player and Evans had a decent game. The lack of quality in our misfield has not been addressed and remains a major concern.

Anderson was on for 84 minutes ... and Cleverley came off before him on 65 mins?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, Rafael was superb. Great energy, timing of tackles improved vastly. He is there or thereabouts as best player so far this season.

Van Persie is a different class. Agree with all other comments too but what the hell is Ferguson doing with our formation, it just didn't work at all. Other teams would have beat us last night. That said it's a clean sheet, which is a bonus

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans had a decent game? He had a great game. A very commanding performance from him.

He was our second best player after Rafael.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Evans has a commanding game against City, Barca and Co and makes a run of similar performances I would be more likely to be glowing however we did look a little shaky in the middle at the back not dominating so decent is a fair reflection.
Anderson may have been on until 84 but was visibly shattered long before that

Once kagawa gets back, hopefully he will slot into the position rooney currently plays, then pushing rooney further up the field.

Hopefully this will help Rooney start to score more goals

I agree with this 100% we just dont seem to have any imagination in the team but the problem could be fergie and his liking for playing people out of position (wellbeck for example has not,is not and never will be a left winger)the team i would most like to see is a 4 3 3 formation as our wingers have been crap all season so i think we should start with ddg in goal back 4 of rafael vidic/evans smalling and evra(only because we dont have anyone better yet) then carrick or jones holding with cleverly and ando then a front 3 of rooney rvp and kagawa this would leave us with a good bench of wellbeck chica scholes(good to play last 10mins or so to see out a game) + a couple of wingers so a formation change maybe implimented if plan A is not working i feel this team would give us fluidity, pace, movement and invention.

Before anyone starts slating this i agree that we still need improvements but i think this is the best we can do at the moment personally i think we need a new cb(a solid one in the vidic mould) 2x cm( a defence minded player and an attack minded player) and i would also get a new collection of wingers as young/nani are not good enough and valencia isnt playing well this season(i do rate him highly tho) and maybe a new out and out striker preferably with some height (there is no point banging in crosses for 90mins to short players)

Agree0 Disagree0

Just can't see Cleverley ever making it, to the Man utd level. Sure he's got a good engine and runs and runs all night, but what does he really offer? He isn't a ball winner, yet he isn't really that creative. He rarely scores, or creates assists. His passing is ordinary at best and at 23 is not a kid any longer. He's not blessed with either blistering pace or great strength. He may be good enough for an ordinary, over-rated team like England, but can't see him ever bossing it at a top outfit like United. I'd sell him for 8m (if we could get it), and Young for 15m?,Macheda for 2m. Then buy Wanyama for 15m, Gotze for 30m+. With Gotze, Wanyama, Anderson,(if he stays trim and fit),Carrick and Jones our midfield would start to have the quantity and look potent. I would keep Nani, for all his inconsistancy, he's one of the few players we have that can produce the unexpected.

If i, a young supporter who can only watch manchester united on tv, have yet to visit Old Trafford and/or see the team train, can realise how bad the midfield pairing is playing, how can the most decorated coach in history not see it?

I would suggest that for the very reasons you've given mate, that we should maybe leave it to Fergie for now.

as a fan of course i want ronaldo back. He scores goals for fun, would give us back a fear factor we have lacked since he left, and of course he looks much better in red! But you have to ask would signing ronaldo back affect the team in other ways? The cost could be huge but he'd replace nani. Selling nani would contribute towards the fee of course. But would we then neglect midfield again? If giggs and scholes were to retire we'd go into next season with a midfield of carrick, fletcher, cleverley and anderson. Possibly powell and petrucci as well. Would people be happy with that? How would it affect kagawa? And could rooney, ronaldo and robin all fit into the same team especially with that midfield? I look forward to your responses. SpongeBob

We could sell both Young, Nani, Bebe & Macheda. That could get us about 40m.

Buy Ronaldo for 80m,
Net spend 40m,
and we still have 10m in our kitty.
Upgrade Brady to the first team.
Nani & Young replaced.
Giggs & Scholes replaced by Powell and we could a CM for 15m (Strootman or Bender)
Thats 5m we dont have.
Evra could be given 1 more season, with buttner & Fabio fighting it out.

GK - Lindegaard, Amos, DDG
CB - Ferdi, Vida, Evans, Smalling, Jones
FB - Rafa, Fabio, Evra, Buttner

CM - Anderson, Carrick, Cleverley, Powell, Fletcher, a new signing.

Forwards - Rooney, Valencia, van Persie, Hernandez, Ronaldo, Kagawa, Welbeck

Signing Ronaldo means 30 goals a season, he is largely injury free, we'll be faster on counter attacks, if we get a good crosser (like baines) to take our corners, we'll have Rooney, RVP and Ronaldo in the box, can you imagine how many goals that could produce?

we'll not a sign defensive midfielder, we'll sign an attacking midfield, and will try to convert him to a cm pairing of 2, like we did with anderson or are doing with powell.even rooney

Agree0 Disagree2

Raises good questions but i think it just adds to the fact he aint coming back. Maybe he'll be involved with our club after he retires, although i think the climate would also prevent that haha!

Realistically, looking at the figures, we generally have £50 million to spend each summer. But it seems that last summer we had a spare £30 million that we tried to sign Hazard and Moura with. So that could mean £80 million. Now if you add player sales onto that it'd give us over £100 million plus free cash in the wage budget.

More plausible than people think in my opinion. Signing Baines & a centre back in January would be better for us though as we then have less to do with out capital in the summer where we could just sign Strootman and Ronaldo.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

If we had lets say £100-£120 million, I would buy:

Strootman - £15-20 million
Hummels - £25-30 million
Ronaldo - £80 million

Sell:

Nani - £20-30 million
Young - £10-15 million
Macheda - £2 - 5 million
Bebe - £500,000

That means only 80 million on the 3 i think should be purchased. Also we could put a bid in for Baines and send Buttner out on loan, what you think guys?

RED-DEVIL-91

Blackburn also have the option to buy King at the end of his loan that might bring in an extra 3 or 4m. Vidic may leave for Anzhi which would also bring in at least 20m and I would take that. Lets not forget that we would probably be able to get nike to pay a fair amount towards Ronney due to the massive commercial impact he would give them. If we buy Strootman then I think we can assume that Ando will go and if we buy Baines then Evra will go.

Out:
Vidic - 25m
Nani - 15m
Young - 15m
Macheda - 3m
King - 3m
Bebe - 1m
Evra - 5m
Ando - 10m

+77m

In:

Baines - 12m
Ronaldo - 100m
Strootman - 15m
Hummels - 25m

152m

therefore you would be looking at a 75m net spend. I think that is only possible if we get very far in the champs league as in at least the semis. We would get about a 40m payout for the semis as opposed to around 15m at the 1st knockout round. Finalist gets around 50m and the winner around 70m IIRC. Those payouts will probably determine whether we can spend big in the summer.

Lads lads please this is real life not football manager or FIFA so get a bit of a grip and stop dreaming of these scenarios, ronaldo at present is unaffordable all these scenarios are ridiculous

Son

Agree2 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more Son! Although I'd love to see him back, there's absolutely no chance Ronaldo will be signed next year, or the year after that, or the year after that!

If he ever does come back to United it'll be when he's coming towards the end of his career, so we've got a while to go yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Real Madrid win the champions league this year Ronaldo would definitely want to come back

Agree0 Disagree0

I would rather Wanyama -15m
Gotze - 32m
Baines - 15m
Hummels- 24m
Total - 86m
Sell --- Young 15m
----Cleverley 7m
----Chicherito 15m
King, Macheda and bebe 3m
total 40m
Net spend 46m, or about what we usually spend. As much as I love Ronanldo, he'd be over 28 cost 100m+ and 15m a year salery. It's not only unrealistic, it's just looking in the short term, doing a City. The players I suggest are 21, 20, 27 and 23 - there combined transfer fee would be less then Ronaldos. It would mend the team where it most needs it, midfield and defence. Ronaldo will always hold a special place in my love of United, but thats past, it's time to finish creating a squad for the next decade!

I've seen with been linked with Strootman for ages but I don't follow the Dutch league much, can anyone shed some light on what sort of player he is? I'm guessing a hard talking DM but can he play aswell? What current player would you compare him too?

Thanks,

Instead of spending £20m odd on strootman i think spend the money on rodriguez and get McCarthy from Wigan .. he's young talented and would not cost as much !

Gareth bale and ronaldo together
united will need 150 m for that atleast
and
dont you think the left wing will become too congested

Agree2 Disagree0

And Pele has recovered from his erectile dysfunction and is to sign a 10 year deal with United

Agree2 Disagree1

First off, nice dreaming and just in case the dream becomes reality then on to the last post re congested left wing, Ronaldo is more right footed.

On another note TalkSh~~e reporting Utd have enquired about Strootman and that he wants a Prem move.
