Good thread below on the merits of selling Martial or not.
To be honest I thought jose would sell him and he was open to that as per ed002.
I wanted him to go on loan this season in the hope that playing every week at a high level la liga or serie a that he would come back a more rounded experienced player.

I think he has only started 3 league games this season and like all young players he has been inconsistent . He has done well in cl and league cup and off the bench I the league but is that enough to bring him on quickly enough.
He imo is one of the best close control dribblers in world football. He oozes talent but because of his demeanour he looks lazy at times and lacks intensity concentration and focus at times during matches.

Playing weekly his movement and decision making will improve dramatically ( this is what infuriates me when watching him) . This is where I think jose has a dilemma. Because rashford is in the exact same position.

We have 2 great young talents. But while they are learning and developing they will have as many unproductive games as productive couple that with our requirement to compete in the top comps its hard to develop both at the same time and give them enough starts and doubly difficult when they ideally want to play In the same position.

When both play together if they are both on an off day we look toothless but hot when they are on form we look hot but to be honest that's 50/ 50.
Time will tell but i don't see us developing both.

Let's be honest developing kids isn't Jose strong point .
Jose has a lot of good traits but that's not one of them .
Tonight is the 11th game martial has started this season with another 8 from the bench .
Lads still only 21 so not doing to bad.

Martial is on a different planet to Rashford. He has speed, control, sange-froide and great vision. Rashford has speed. But is otherwise a car crash.

I like rash but martial is a step up imo .
Can't believe people are talking about selling a young talented player like this.
Or saying he will never be a top player or has a poor attitude.

The lad is 21 still has a lot to learn but has absolute bags of talent.

You really don't rate him that highly Ken do you?

I know he can be inconsistent, I'm going to put that down to age but even on a bad day, he is genuinely one of our only players that has the ability to go past a man and do something incredible. I think we would suffer offensively if he were to be sold or sent out on loan.

He of course needs to iron out the inconsistencies but for me he has to be kept, he is in that bracket of top top players (right jred) I understand now lol, and every young player has inconsitent spells. Just look at Raheem Sterling.

I think Rashford. Is going backwards in his development. Is it because he is regular in the first team now and feels that's it
I've made it.
And please could we have lukaku playing in Velcro kit, the ball might stick to him then, He has been woeful of late.
Good display by lindelof tho.
Rock the red.

Angle
Lol.
Martial looks a talent looks a threat and season looks up for it .

For his age and position I don't see much better out there .
You have to give these young lads a chance .
To be fair to Jose he has so this season with martial.
Looks better playing striker as well, that's where the lad himself wants to play .

Why sell a player for £80 mil that would cost us £150mil to get close to replacing him?

Please lay off Rashford as he is a young kid and will have ups and downs. Also he is under a lot of pressure knowing he has Martial Lukaku and Ibra fir competition in his preferred role as central striker. His end product is generally very good. Cut him some slack.

The problem is that Jose appears under pressure to always play Rashford as he is being positioned as a locally grown brand. He is not technically good enough to make it. Won't be best option is to take advantage of the elevated pricing for young stars and sell him now, focusing on Martial.

Angel. I do rate him. I've said above and have always said that he has a dribbling talent that is nearly unrivalled. I never advocated selling him although I thought jose would sell him because he is not know for his patience with young players.
I think the issue is we have 2 players that play I the same position so it would be difficult to get them both enough game time to develop both quickly enough from the club's point if view but akso from their point of view. Martial will only improve with experience like all young players. I thought he would struggle for game time under jose like 40 starts and if he does get 40 starts rash won't so it will be difficult to get both up to speed and keep them happy.

Ken
You argued with me last season he would never be a top player .
Round about the time you where posting Jose would sell him .
Coincidence?

Jred you have a more select memory than Boris Johnson.
You argued that cattermole was as good as matic.
Jose was open to selling him as we know.
I have been 100% consistent on martial. He is getting more game time than I thought he would and has done very well this season in some games and has as the manner said improved both his play and his application so fair play to him it's paying dividends for him and the team.

Fair play to the manger for getting more out of him and fair play to the player who by his own admission was not concentrating fully on his game last year.

I'd be amazed if he didn't want that.

20 man squad reported for tomorrow miki, fellaini and shaw not named in squad darmian blind and jessie included.
Is fellaini injured? Or perhaps he is saving him for the arsenal game. Shaw and miki appear to be in the bad books.

Wenger doesn't like to play against physical teams so fellaini is a good option for us against arsenal.

Id have still taken him for watford though.

Fellaini was limping bad against Brighton. Definitely got injured. Hopefully he's back for Arsenal game though.
