sly sports reporting
"We have not even had a single enquiry from Manchester United.
"Every week we are asked the same question, but it is the same answer, and we are getting a touch fed up with it. For two months it has been suggested that Manchester United have bid for Baines, but it is simply not true."
this comes a month after moyes saying there has been no contact from united about baines.
what do all the people in the know think about this also what do you think about modric was he not supposed to sign about a month ago.

Really hope that there isn't any truth in the Baines saga. A disciplined Evra, and an able understudy from within our youth structure would/could save the cream of Mancunia 12-15m. Almost half of the Moura fee!

Evra hasn't been disciplined for a few years now. More interested in going forward than defending.

Sir Alex Ferguson, David Gill and Wagner Ribeiro all at Old Trafford today for the Brazil game. Could talks have maybe been held whilst the first game was taking place. Sir Alex's office is only down the corridor.

Of course they could have...nothing to do with the fact that it would be appropriate for the club manager and chief exec to be present at an Olympic match being held at OT, or that Ribeiro represents at least two players on the Brazil team...I guess when Spain play there in a few days time we'll be talking to Martinez's and Munian's agents too? Just wait until we hear something from SAF's mouth, this constant speculation is doing no one any good!

In reply to "Andy" above .. why is it appropriate for the maanger and chief exec to be there? doesnt have anything to do with it
Agree0

Because it's Old Trafford, the home of the club and it's hosting parts of an Olympic tournament...which isn't an every day occurrence. I has a lot to do with it no name.

Reply also to "Andy" above, im really confused as to why it would be deemed as appropriate for all of them to be there? I really don't think unless there was a particular player he was looking at Sir Alex would be anywhere near the match.

SAF has been over that team for what? 25 years? Old Trafford is pretty much his home...if you were him wouldn't you want to see your pitch being used as an Olympic venue? All i'm saying is that Moura certainly wasn't the only reason he was there!

Sir Alex will be there to run the rule over the players from both teams but I'd say he was there to see Rafael and show his support.

So you think SAF would think it would be appropriate (or be allowed) to hold talks with a player or his representatives just before an Olympic match?
I wouldn't have thought so.

ROBIN van Persie will join Manchester United if he is promised the same mega-wages as Wayne Rooney.
The England superstar is reportedly picking up £220,000 a week as United’s biggest earner.
And Van Persie looks set to join United on an identical deal to Rooney to form the most expensive Old Trafford strike force in history.

Screw Van Persie, one good season and he thinks he's the golden boy. If we buy him he will be another anderson. we have Chica, Welbeck and Rooney. Bring in some good youngster and tell Van Persie to screw off! He's unneeded, we were never really weak up front, just LB and we've had a pretty good buy for midfield help, just need to strengthen it

Pretty sure Rooney is on 250k. It would be worth it if he is not sidelined by injuri too often but you just have to look at his record....

An RVP type player is needed! If we had an out and out striker instead of Welbeck that was on form then we would have won the league! Welbeck is skillfull but he doesnt do the job at the moment. If he learns to be a striker it will be fine but we need world class players and only an person can deny that. Injury history is the only concern because the way he plays he has another 3 or 4 years at the top of his game. Even for around 20m would anyone turn down a striker who would get 25 plus goals a season. Rooney is a number 10, his unparalleled quality is the only reason he gets so many goals from his position and RVP should get even more goals being supported by Rooney so for me this is number 2 priority other than a Modric type player.

This is not true, firstly Rooney is not on that money even with sponsorship deals.
Van Persie is most prob not demanding this, media manipulation at work. I'm sure he will be looking at a better contract and why not?he will be sold prob for about 12-15 mill tops due to last year of contract so club buying him saving a bit off market value ,that savings could go towards his wage ..is say 120,000 per week.
Agree0
Disagree0
RVP will not get that amount of wages if he comes to United. Fergie has already said he's willing to pay up to £22 million for the player and up to £150,000 a week wages.
If it's money that RVP wants then he should go to City.
Agree0

On a 1-2 year roll on deal id take him every time.
He would add quality no one can deny that.
I dont understand some fans on here, we complain when we dont bid for the best players then complain when we do, guess its the British in us. I myself am guilty of this. The grass always seems greener.

Many other news sources have picked up on this story and its been going around all day.
Hopefully we could get him on a cheap transfer fee between 15-20 mill which I honestly thing is a steal as your talking about last seasons top scorer. If we sell Berbatov, who earns quite a lot, we might as well have part of Van Persie's wages already paid for.
THE SHINING KNIGHT

If he is demanding those wages then i'd prefer to go back in for Lewandowski because he is younger and would demand lower wages yet, in my opinion is on almost the same level as RVP and isn't so injury prone.
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree with Shining Knight. Berbatov is on weekly wages of around 90K if we can offload him there will be some room for adjusting RVPs wage demands + we have already released Owen who was on 50K. So i think 15-17 mil + 190K per week will be best deal for RVP.

Lewandowski isn't going anywhere. Not this summer. Dortmund generally only let one star go per season, and then immediately replace him. They signed Marco Reus even before Kagawa left because they knew.
RVP is worth it, Chicharito and Wellbeck are not good enough, though they are fine as 3 and 4 striker. For United, to go up front with Rooney we would be on the inside track for more silverware.
Also, that pairing up front would cause a formation change to a 4-4-2 variance:
Rooney-RVP
Kagawa
Nani-Valencia
Carrick
Evra-Vidic-Ferdinand-Jones
DDG
That attack would be absolutely lethal.
Agree0

...or possibly Moura instead o Nani?

'Famous Five' of Valencia, Kagawa, Moura, Rooney & RVP. Devastating! :-)
Agree0
Disagree0
I don't want Moura. Don't see where he fits into a Starting 11. Would cost way too much, and it is always dodge dealing with these Brazilian clubs and agents. I think we should back away from that, because they are trying to hold us up for ransom and I don't think we should oblige them. He could flop in the PL too. Spend less on someone more experienced. I'd take that 30M or whatever we are offering and go 15 on RVP, and spend the other 15 on a central midfielder. Then sell Berbatov for 5M and pickup a young left back. Then you are set for the season.
Agree0
Disagree0
Its either one or the other from RVP or Lucas, it is near impossible for SAF to splash 50 mill on two players in a single transfer window and with the wages that these two players demand. RVP is already proven in the EPL and has shown that he is reliable, Lucas, hoever, has played in a league where the strongest side is equivalent to Newcastle. If we do sign RVP the most bussiness we could do after him is signing a unknown young player for a fee of less than 8 mill.

Question is RVP worth £220k pw ?
If you regard the top premiership scorer as being as good as Rooney then the answer is yes. And if you agree he's worth it then why shouldn't we pay it ?
I accept RVPs pre-2011 injury record is far from perfect but that didnt stop us shelling out for Owen did it ?
A Rooney and Van Persie partnership would be lethal. Much better option than Welbeck and Hernandez who are both good but not great forwards.
RVP and Rooney both have that rare quality that they can play as either a No. 9 or No.10. Playing with Kagawa behind them pulling the 'advanced' strings with Young and Valencia supporting from the wings would be an awesome attacking force. When defending RVP would stay up as the lone striker as a 4-3-3 reverts to 4-5-1 when we are looking to win the ball back.
Get RVP and we dont need Moura. Yet.
RVP is 28 going 29 however for the next 2/3 seasons we would have THE best attacking partnership in the Prem and possibly in Europe.
Question is: why we would not but RVP and pay him what he's worth ?

Why is everyone so sure Van Persie and Rooney would work they are both great players but as a pair I fear they might clash like Drogba and Torres. 25Million+ would be a huge gamble because generally around the world 2 players can give a negative affect on the team if they clash.

Rooney is technically one of the most gifted players of his generation, he could easily adapt his game to play with RVP..
That is my opinion anyway

Rooney and rvp clash cause Torres can't link up front with drogba . What a ridiculous comparison. Torres can't link with any striker for club or country don't be daft and compare him to Rooney in any way
Agree0
Disagree0
Difference is Torres and Drogba both out and out strikers, RVP and Rooney can both play as no 10 or 9 with RVP slighly better as out an out and Rooney as best no 10 in prem. Would be both lethal and also excellent at linking our wingers into play. I get the Torres/Drogba thing however dont think it applies to here
Agree0
Disagree0
Torres had a amazing partnership with Villa and a brief one with Aguero. Also Arsenal sold both Henry and Adebayor so RVP could play up front by himself. Plus the last time United had a top player alongside Rooney it was Ronaldo and Rooney was playing left wing and was always in his shadow. {Ed004's Note - However it would be just like the Hernandez and Rooney partnership that excelled a few seasons back but this time we have a world class striker. Hernandez scored 20 goals that season, imagine how many RVP would get with supply from Rooney and Valencia}
Agree0
Disagree0
What a ridiculous comparison, torres and drogba didnt work because they both play the game differently and like to be the main man, torres needs inch perfect through balls at his feet where as drogba just needs it in the air! rooney has the adaptability to play with anyone thats part of his sucess so far at united, RVP would work great, im just concerned about the wage bill (if true) what hes demanding seems quite extrodanairy.
