I haven't posted on this site in a while but I thought I would let you know that a good friend of mine who has media connections is very confident Manchester United have all but signed Vidal.

He told me about one month ago that a deal had been agreed between the clubs and that it would now be down to player/club negotiations after the world cup.

I spoke with him the other day and he reckons the hold up is in part down to an agreement of the deal not being announced until later on in the window as Juventus do not/did not want fans linking the boards acceptance of the offer for Vidal to Conte's departure.

Make of this what you will be I trust this guy and he has been spot on in the past. The explanations he has given for the delays seem pretty watertight too, so fingers crossed the deal will be announced shortly.

I have a source works for another premier league club in the near vicinity of united. He works with acquisitions and as such has close contacts with agents. He previously was spot on about the two porto players supposedly joining City on last day of window in January - said City had booked flights to fly them over but they never boarded as Porto raised the asking price at the last minute. Anyway - speaking to him tonight he said the clubs have agreed a fee - like some previous posts have suggested, Juventus have looked to stall a move to seem they are not willing to part with the player. However, Juve have apparently said it would be down to the player and they would keep him it he wanted to stay. The point he was getting at was that whilst a fee has been agreed between the clubs, it is now down to the player to decide if he wants to leave or stay. And he said no one he is aware of knows what Vida'ls decision is. Seems to line up with what happened today - Juve stating that if Vidal wanted to leave he would have to ask the club (makes it look to the fans as if they don't want him to go). Never posted before, always read the forum, first time I've had something that I felt was truly worth sharing.

Agree6 Disagree2

Thanks for posting guys. They were both good rumours to read :)

It looks like Allegri is trying to let Vidal know that he's very much wanted at the club but Vidal has all the reasons to leave juve and join United. New challenge, a coach who likes him a lot (LVG) and surely more money for Vidal and his agent.

Agree1 Disagree2

I think it's time people accepted the fact that Vidal will remain at Juve. United will maybe look at a versatile CB that can also cover for Luke Shaw but that will be it. They'd have had it wrapped up by now if it was going to happen regardless of the so called politics about Juventus having to keep it under wraps because of Conte etc.

Achieve 4th place, gain CL football, worm out the deadwood who can't adapt to LVG's style and then make some premium signings next season.

Agree5 Disagree3

Well what a negative man simon ghost riley, trying to achieve 4th place is not how we do things, you must be a cockney red and hang around with arsenal fans to much

Agree2 Disagree0

Not negative. Realistic. If you'd prefer I could jump on the Vidal is imminent bandwagon and pretend that everything will be ok with just that one signature?

Agree1 Disagree1

Simon, between Herrera, Shaw and LVG, our biggest problems from last season are allready partly solved.

Getting in loads of signings now would just disrupt the team, like spurs last year. We will get the ones we need most, aim for 1st, and add the finishing touches next year.

Now Vidal may or may not sign for us this summer. If he does, he'll be great, but if he doesn't, we'll still get the players we need, and we still won't be targeting 4th.

Agree1 Disagree0

I love these fantasy football stories that is why I keep on coming back, thanks!

Allegri has just said that after speaking to Vidal that he's happy to stay.

"Vidal will stay here and he's very happy about this," Allegri said. "I spoke with him about his fitness, we're happy he will stay with us."

Vidal has even posted a pic with the other teammates saying "ready for next season"

Trying to find a way to still be optimistic!

It didn't say ready for next season only we are ready, but that could be anything, of course he will look as if he will still be with his team mates incase the deal falls through.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt expect anything else tbh

Agree0 Disagree0

Seem, s to me that Woody has done his business early to get a reprieve from last years debacle. I'm thinking that he won't buy anymore players, as Van Gaal is he'll bent on proving he can make a decent team with what we have right now. Shame I know as we def need a couple more big signings, but Woody has promised the earth once again and failed up to now. But people have bought the new kits already so why should he care. I know there is four weeks left and anything in football can happen. , But my piles are itching and when they itch, things turn out bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

From crappy media sources who just want pple to read any crap and provide all other vidal rumours positive n negative from here!

The fact is bid not even been made and it doesn't matter what a manager says!

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing I can think of to stay positive is that how many players in the past have said they're happen and then end up leaving?

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop whining about Woodward not signing players. Van Gaal is assessing his squad and has quite clearly stated he hasn't finished doing so. So therefore no one will be signed until Van Gaal knows who he wants. Its not that difficult to work out.

Agree2 Disagree0

Who cares!

Seriously, I am so sick of all this.

We have a top manager who knows what he is doing. Let the man get on with his job, and then let's judge. Besides, where would have Vidal fitted in, in the LVG system? Vidal is box to box, and would have to be used in a similar role to Herrera, who I personally think is a better - or will be better - than Vidal.

I have said it for a while that LVG will look to bring in a strong DM type player, as he will look to exploit the clubs attacking talent. A player like Vidal, who likes to get forward, might not work.

Agree0 Disagree3

Sam, so then why are we trying to sign Vidal? If you want to play a 343, you need two b2b midfielders.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed008's Note - No 1 midfield has to hold like De Jong did for Holland at the World Cup, and the other Herrera does multiple roles dictating play and box to box if Vidal were to sign I think you'd see a change in tactics maybe 433 instead.

Ed, Holland use De Jong, Strootman, Blind & De Guzman in midfield. In the WC Holland played a 3412 and both De Jong and De Guzman sat behind Sneijder and were both taking in turns getting forward and both stuck a foot in. De Jong stayed back mostly agreed, but I think Herrera & Vidal would work very well in midfield as both can attack and both can get stuck in. I think LvG wants Hummels who would push up into the midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed008's Note - I know and did you see how the 2nd midfield next to De Jong played? De Guzman/Wijnaldum played very well in those roles dictating play aswell as joining in attacks, if LVG went with Herrera and Vidal midfield Mata would have to work very hard like Sneijder did in helping his midfield.

What do you make of the Cavani interest Ed? If MU did go for Cavani, would you think Rooney or Mata would do best in the hole?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed008's Note - I only know of Chelsea interest unless another Ed has mentioned something about it, I think both players would do well playing in the hole off the 2 strikers it just comes down if the player in that position is disciplined enough week in week out, Mata has done very well in pre-season in that position so far.

29 Jul 2014 21:57:08
To be honest Syd, I am not overly convinced we are going to push the boat out to sign Vidal. Maybe some informal offer was made and that offer was rejected, so the club have decided not to get involved in a protracted transfer drama?

I wouldn't put money on the guy joining us. That is just the way I see the situation at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

A Darren Fletcher quote on Ander Herrera, post the LA Galaxy match;

“I thought he was fantastic, he was full of energy and endeavour. He changed his role in the first half, he played a little deeper, then in the second half he went into a more advanced role with some great assists and he got about the pitch. I think he is going to be a fantastic player for Manchester United. Hopefully there will be more of the same from him.”

- To those who have not realised it yet, we have already seen Ander Herrera employed in advanced and deeper roles in preseason. I spent time explaining I expect to see Herrera in the deeper position described by Shappy's post, - in the event Vidal is signed. LVG it appears, has already illustrated Herrera will fit a deeper role. I also stated I would expect to see Herrera rotate between positions due to his multiple talents, - if Vidal is not signed. This seems accurate so far.

Despite the discussion of Vidal vs Herrera in the box to box role last week, one thing we should all acknowledge is that Shappy's post prior to the world cup seems to be outdated. In light of LVGs new tactics in the world cup (where 3 centre backs were introduced, ) it seems the other roles, like the midfielders, have also changed. LVG has further still modified his formation in preseason by employing 2 strikers and no wingers. The truth is that its difficult to say what LVGs long term ambitions are with regard to the formation he wishes to use. The evidence we have to go on in the last 2 months has only made the situation more difficult to predict. - At the moment i'm not even sure there is a box to box player. That may be because it is preaseason. Players are learning new roles, and gaining fitness. I have not however seen anyone bombing up and down the pitch in the games we have played so far. Personally I think we will have to wait a number of months until we get an idea.

The only thing that does seem obvious is that if we really are in for Vidal, then LVG will have an idea of how he will use both Herrera and Vidal in the midfield. He is the one in control of approving players on the signature list. If Woodward has the green light to sign Vidal, its obvious LVG will have anticipated a way to use them both.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam, perhaps you should read the editor's posts. We are very much in for Vidal. Whether we get him is another matter, but we want him. If you are going by what you are hearing from local journalists then know that they are not being fed any info from MU this summer.

Agree0 Disagree1

We need vidal he is so talented he could play the holding role with ease so for a lot u thinking it'll he won't complement Herrera he can do it all in midfield and I would feel much more confident if he was in the centre of the park

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed. Is it significant what's been said this evening by the Juventus manager? Obviously the reports United have verbal agreement are wide of the mark as that's clearly not allowed!

Thanks for your time

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is what I said it is. There can be no verbal agreement with the player - that would be tapping up.}

What if United have an option on Vidal?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - But they don't obviously.}

I really think that this Vidal deal is a long shot and the media, having been given very little by both clubs or the player's agent is only shooting in the dark hoping to hit the right spot.

There may have been some sort of a broad verbal agreement with the player's agent before making an offer to Juventus though.

Some false reports of barca coming to an agreement with hummels over a transfer. Sources close to the club have come out and said no agreement with either player or club as he is not a target for the club as they cannot meet the fee dortmund would find acceptable. Also added they aproached them for reus months ago and nothing came of this.
Utd have intrest in hummels and seems that they would be in pole position for him if a bid was made and accepted.

Ed002; I know City have shown interest in Barkley recently but it looks unlikely this summer, have we at all?

Believable1 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - Whilst others have shown interest I am not aware that any interest has been shown since Mr Moyes left.}

Looks like Barkley might have signed a new 4 year deal with Everton at £65k a week

Agree0 Disagree0

Just signed 3 year deal with everton

A lot of sites are suddenly reporting that Vidal has verbaly agreed to join united, no idea if there's any substance to this but this is a rumor site!

EL M3RCURIO says Arturo Vidal has verbally Agreed to join Manchester United this summer. The Seria A champions are Set to revieve $80 mil(47.1m EUR), while United have offered The Chilean International a salary worth $18mil(10.6m) a Year.

If this is true then its time to celebrate EID :) :)

Believable23 Unbelievable30

Does anyone know how reliable El Mercurio are? I've seen links to their articles a few times this summer, but I don't know how credible they are. Thanks.

About as reliable as any media outlet.

I like the way they call him ' the steering wheel '

De Vrij confirmed by Lazio (for 6.7m!). I would only say that we've missed out here if we fail to land Vermaelen or Hummels

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Thought we made a mistake by not pursuing de vrij but on the bright side just heard kagawa could be wanted by dortmund so there might be something happening re hummels or different position, reus . fingers crossed

ED how realistic is the Cavani to United rumour?

Surely we have other areas to focus on before going out and buying an overly expensive striker.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - I don't know of rumours, but as has been explained, Manchester United are one of the clubs that has been interested in Cavani, and Cavani might leave Paris.}

Napoli intrested in fellaini. Loan offer more than actual transfer. Maybe transfer if major player leaves napoli.

Believable15 Unbelievable5

I would happily swap him for Hamsik

*Keeps dreaming*

Agree0 Disagree1

Mertins wouldn't be a bad swap, very unlikely but would be a good bit of business, wouldn't cost us anything and would sort out our wide problems and add some pace up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we keep Felliani. As a luxury, and impact player, his value could be second to none. How much was Solskjaer's goal worth in 99, in addition to all the late goals deciding title matches and fa cup tie's. A player that can really change the game, can prove their weight in gold over the course of their career.

Look at what happened in the wolrd cup when the Netherlands faced Mexico. LVG changed his tactics to long balls into the box in the last 10 minutes and they scored 2 late goals to go through. Who better than Felliani to come on and fill the role of target man in such situations?

LVG only needs to give him 20 starts a season - carling cup. fa cup- some small games in the league and big games away from home where a more cautious and defensive system is employed (meaning felliani won't have to run!).

Then he can feature another 10 games from the bench, and get enough playtime through the season to be happy at his involvment.

Since we paid the money already it would be a waste to get rid of him now for 10-15 million. Unlike Nanis and Andersons, this is a player that could prove invaluable if used in the right way. Felliani could still become a Man Utd legend if he develops an expertise as an impact player.

Hope we don't sell him.
